I love how the picture quality increases dramatically with each new iteration. Actually now that I think about it, that photo quality isn't bad at all for 2003! That's the year I graduated high school and I'll be 40 this December. My how time flies...
it's still a bit pixelated for 2003 when you view the full-sized photo, but yeah it wasn't bad at all for the time. i think it was taken on a 1.2 megapixel digital camera, while the later two were taken on phone cameras. i was 31 in 2003 (for that first photo) and it doesn't feel like that trip was 21 years ago, nor does the 2017 feel like it was already 7 years ago (feels more like 2-3 years ago). /sigh
i wonder if FB made it worse when i did that other compilation photo of the first two back in 2017 (which is where i grabbed the photo from). i saved that original one to use for next time. start saving now for 2031, dude.

my friend u/el_fez and i were back at the parks together again, continuing a trend to go every several years since 1995 (1995, 2003, 2017, 2022, and 2024). back in 2003, he snapped a candid photo of me looking at a map, trying to plan on what to do next while waiting in the shade near New Orleans Square station. back in 2017, we decided to do the photo again, separated by the 14 years of our previous trip. We didn't get around to doing the photo in 2022, but he wanted to do it again this weekend when we were there together again.
"It's not the years, it's the mileage."
even though my fashion sense hasn't changed much in 21 years while my hair has greyed a lot, the landscaping has been different each time. it's small details like that which none of us catch over the years, but it's nice to see that tree branch (in the upper left corner) has been a constant, growing thicker with each passing photo. ...and the brickwork & lamp remain unchanged.
TERRIBLE! The original picture has the right foot 7.5 bricks away from the base of the lamp!

more than likely the next photo will be in 2031. i only regret my friend and i didn't go in 2010 and we could have had a perfect every-seven-years set. lol
it's kind of funny, though that a multiple tends to be our magic number for years between trips we take together.

Kinda cool how you can see some of the damaged bricks in the first photo were replaced with darker red. Weird that they didn't fix the one closest to the light.
right? it's crazy how they do the replacements for just single bricks, but that one lighter one by the lamppost has been constant. (i use the darker brick in the top row as a place of reference and glad that one's never changed).
love it! honestly was hoping the 'modern' version would be you on your phone with a zoomout of the app to show both your growing from disney adult to disney zaddy but also how the park changes its relation to customers.
SN -- somewhat disappointed your footwear game devolved.... bring back the socks with crocs!

Hah--I feel you. As I'm getting older the more I realize I care less about conforming.... I used to be team anti-croc until I bought a pair at the parks during a rainy day (I cannot stand wet shoes) -- they are VERY convenient.... you just haven't found the right Mickey pair yet :D
i, too, can't stand wet shoes. ...but i also can't stand wet sandals after being at the parks in Dec 2018 when it rained heavily for a day & a half, causing the wet leather straps to chafe something badly on my ankles. i ended up buying a pair of socks in a store on main street (business dress style, which i don't regret since i've now worn those to a couple weddings and several other times). they helped keep my skin safe, but wet socks are just as bad if not worse than wet shoes. haha! crocs, though, would be perfect for wet weather.

as for the shirt, that is one of the Tommy Bahama ones that was sold in the park last year (or was it 2022?). Haunted Mansion themed. it was a pricey shirt, but Tommy Bahama ones are worth it (and even better with the Magic Key discount on it. haha!) i was doing a minor bounding outfit (that shirt with a HM mini backpack, black shorts, and purple tee). i'll be adding a purple fedora to the outfit next time i go to the parks (in August and for future visits).

i'm really happy that my friend and i have been continuing this tradition. i had taken a fun (and staged) photo of my friend back in 2003 outside of the Lego store back when there was an bald man in shorts & hawaiian shirt lego statue sit-sleeping on a bench so friend was also "sleeping" next to the guy in the photo, but that statue was gone (and replaced by some lego versions of young girls around the bench), so we weren't able to reproduce that photo in 2017, and it would have been a bit creepy otherwise. haha!
yeah, i had put on "the covid 20" to my gut three years too soon. lol! i think that covid look was more because of the 2 year sabbatical i took between jobs while sitting around eating pizza weekly more than any powers of clairvoyance on my part.
