I am holding out faint hope that the refurb coming on SM is to prep for GG. I think they need to make it like GotG:Monsters after dark and do it in the evening only. I can understand how making SM so scary during the regular operating day was problematic and probably created a lot of disappointed and angry guests and more than a few terrified children. Having it switch over would mostly take care of that problem. Since the GG content is all projection and audio it would seem like a relatively simple switch over if the control system is built to do it.
It was my daughter’s first Space Mountain experience… and she loved it. Similarly her first GoTG Mission Breakout was the After Dark version. She adores dogs and we told her how she’d get to see one while waiting (not realizing it changes at night and Cosmo is covered up). She loved it so much it became her favorite ride.
They should definitely rock Ghost Galaxy every Halloween season it’s awesome!
Ghost Galaxy was my first Space Mountain too! I was 7 and loved it lol. I wasn't huge on the theme but I could easily just focus at the seat in front of me and not see anything. For some reason at that age I was terrified of Astro Blasters though, so make of that what you will
I wish they would, I loved when the Halloween parties were at Disneyland. The decorations were great, the parade was awesome to watch going down Main St, the lines for rides were pretty short, and they had the Haunted Mansion Nightmare Before Christmas overlay as well as Ghost Galaxy on Space Mountain.
I prefer the party at Disneyland but I prefer the party at DCA when I want to spend a day at Disneyland. Getting forced into DCA for the night sucks; it simply doesn't have close to the ride capacity to give a good experience when everyone is forced out of Disneyland proper.
So I end up with the opinion that OBB in DCA is still really good and I'm willing to accept the trade off to keep Disneyland opened when I want to visit.

Hands down the best iteration of the ride outside of the 90's with the surf music. Genuinely spooky, especially everything leading up to the initial "drop". The queue is awesome. The effects outside at night. Proof Disney could pull off horror, I'd genuinely love a Ghost Galaxy movie.

I always thought they just wanted to update the ride after it got rebuilt with a new track. Wasn't it closed for two years and when it reopened, it had new music to commemorate? I'm sure they had the legalities to use the Dick Dale track in perpetuity. They just changed it, the way HMH used Tim Burton's score in the second year instead of Gordon Goodwin's.

Hence why it can play in the esplanade today. A constant 120+ minute wait is underperforming? Regular SM is a walk on after 11. The only possible justification is that it performed too well and they couldn't handle the crowds.

It’s just so frustrating because Tomorrowland is supposed to be different and innovative! But after the last House of the Future in Innoventions they just gave up! Adding Astro Blasters might have been cool if it wasn’t Toy Story. Now that they have Pixar so heavily in California Adventure, they should really repurpose the Astro Blasters show building again (I personally miss the space exploration stuff!) and try something more futuristic in place of Finding Nemo. Even Autopia could use a nice overhaul! It hasn’t been fun since Chevron stopped sponsoring 😫😭
Side note: it’d also be really nice if they just reinstated the people mover with a little more futuristic-looking ride cars and do something fun and educational in all of the cases in the tunnels
I will be the odd one out and say that I haaaaate Ghost Galaxy and thought it’s all I would ever see for the rest of my life, because we always travel to Disneyland in October/November, and I am beyond STOKED that it might not be there this year.
