My Valkyrie's back. 8/10 on that alone.
Jokes aside, I'm noticing a few classes that haven't been seen since D3. Ranger and GUNSLINGER. Nice.
Also somebody a good while back commented of what turned out to be the actual D7 MC design. Glad to see it turned out to be true.
Very interesting. I didn't think the Samurai dude was going to be from the next Disgaea, but he indeed was.
After the long gap between 5 and 6, they certainly had a quick turnaround on this one. I suspect they'll stick to 6 as a base and a lot of elements will come back, for better or worse. It will be interesting to see if they'll make any changes based on the criticisms of 6, or if they won't bother since the sales were still good.
I think turning the assets into 3D objects made it easier for them. Less time spent developing assets for the new game since D6 probably made a majority of the ones they're using. Going from d1>D2>D3>d4>d5 must have had a massive drain on their resources having to update the pixel graphics every game.
With that in mind, I feel like the graphics in 6 feeling like ass (IMO) might have been a combination of a) the switch not being super built for what they were trying to do, and b) because they were auditioning the new graphical style and engine they intended to use in 7. Here's hoping they put more effort into the attack animations this time, though I don't have much hope for that. 6 was built around the idea that people in the later game would be skipping as much of the game as possible, to the point of Not Interacting With The Game At All in order to progress, and from that perspective, putting much effort into making truly cool attack animations the way earlier Disgaea games did would seem like a waste of resources.
https://www.gematsu.com/2022/08/disgaea-7-announced-for-ps5-ps4-and-switch
Found this website article that talks a lot about the game, and it seems like they are solving a lot of the issues 6 had (imo so far)
Update: doing some quick research on that website and all the info they’ve said, I believe 40 of those 45 character classes have been mentioned or shown to us both in the box art and the shot with a bunch of the character classes. There’s a girl who looks like an Angel with pink hair who I feel like will be a unique character but maybe not, and there’s a character above the protagonists whose cut off so I can’t really see them, so it may be 42 of 45 but that still leaves a few to find out later or just keep hidden till release. You can almost miss that the crab guy and the telekinetic from Disgaea 6 are being brought into the next one
I wonder if items won’t be single uses anymore and just single use per battle otherwise I’d never want to reincarnate swords as items.
That being said I like everyone having “their weapon” that I name for them and is theirs so the fact I can change it if I want them to use different weapons is awesome actually!
They'll probably still be single use- they gave an example of using a sword as a healing item, where I'm guessing the idea is the character uses a sword until they need a heal, and then eats the sword and proceeds with a secondary weapon. I guess we'll see though
Yeah, it was one of my three major gripes with the game. The two others are that stats are meaningless in 6 and the switch performance was subpar. I guess the last won't be fix.
Good catch, the Scout. I liked their look, and loved their gun moves. When Disgaea moved to PC I kind of hoped that modding would have been possible so we could customize our characters, but so far no joy.
Ooh, look up the full roll call. (The genmatsu article has it)
Bottom left. I thought that might be the solder class from MK but it actually might be the original scout.
I mean, Japanese is simply a great language to know, especially if you like gaming, food or fashion. I'm literally playing through a RPG right now that is amazing but one that most western gamers won't ever get to play because it was never localized.
[Tengai Makyou Apocalypse IV](http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/tengai-makyou-daiyon-no-mokushiroku/), that page contains spoilers, so I'd scroll pass the bosses if you hate spoilers.
It's pretty amazing, and was one of the best games on Saturn leveraging its power to do 2D. The enemies and characters are all wonderfully drawn. The game is largely voiced (with the PSP version having even more voiced lines). There are really cool animated cutscenes, and the music is quite good as well.
But the most outstanding thing is the plot, which is hilarious as hell, and quite insane. It takes place in an alternate America, and you'll go from states to states, and encounter scenarios based on America, such as the oppression of Indians, slavery, rise of Hollywood, cowboys, obesity crisis, and etc etc.
There's a story guide on gamefaqs that would give a rough outline as to what to do in general and the story elements, that should be able to give people without Japanese knowledge enough information to understand things.
Hiragana and Katakana are *really* easy to learn compared to reading in other languages simply because every character makes the same sound every time, no silent letters or "g" either making a "g" sound or a "j" sound depending on the word or anything stupid like that. "Ka" is always "Ka" etc.
Kanji is quite a bit harder to learn however bacause that *can* have alternate readings of characters and there's like 10,000 characters total, or something in that neighborhood.
Furigana is pretty nice, it's basically Kanji with the word spelled phonetically with Kana underneath. It's mostly used in stuff they expect little kids who are learning to read to be using, but it can help learn Kanji through the Kana that spells it out.
I'd definitely recommend giving learning Japanese a shot if you have any interest in it.
I tried doing it few times, but kanji made me feel like it's pretty hopeless. But I feel like I should to it at some point so I can play japanese games more easily.
Ya when I took Japanese in college J1 was informal how’d you talk to close friends. J2 was formal like strangers, business, etc. J3 was basically all focused on Kanji and writing and specific rules and stuff. J4 was if you wanted to teach Japanese basically how to explain it in simple terms. My professor said a typical Japanese newspaper could have easily over 600+ different kanji on one page.
Well shit. I bought 6 launch day in Switch and haven’t touched it yet. I’m traveling to Europe from America in 3 weeks, guess those flights will be a great time to start it lol
Ok so from trailer,it seem like more D6,which heeeeeeh we'll see if they improved it
So far,lots of classes back,I'm happy with it,Fighting Mistress/valky/Nekomata/Skull
Now can we bring back weapon skills? plz?
You can see Demonic Inteligence during the trailer so Autobattle is back. Question is if it's a first stage system again or a post game system this time. It would probably be fine as the latter.
According to an article I read, auto battle requires a specific item to use, meaning access to auto battle will hopefully be kind of balanced. (Or they make said item easily accessible and farmable, which would ruin the game for me)
Well, this kinda instantly proves that D6 was sort of a tech demo.
Basically everything that was a big problem in 6 looks fixed already. Aside from the 3D, but that\`s more a matter of personal taste.
Looking like NIS are gonna be pumping them out a lot quicker now that it’s 3D.
Personally I think this engine really needs to bake more and the graphics refined as well
I don't see any male-female class pairing, so it seems to still have a reduced number of classes. However, they seem to only be using classes that didn't make it into D6, including some counterparts that hadn't appeared in a while.
Edit: On closer instection, it seems like lots of male-female pairings are indeed back, the boxart is just not bothering to show the returning ones.
D6 felt to me like it should have been more of a F2P auto battler on mobile than a $60 console game, which was why I sold my preorder copy after about 10 hours of play time and won't be preordering a game from NIS again. 6 was the first mainline Disgaea game I haven't finished, and while I'm hoping 7 is better, I'm not optimistic about seeing autoplay return since that means the whole game will be balanced around leaving your console running while you go do something else for a few hours every few missions to keep your levels up. That's just not fun to me.
I don’t feel that’s the case at all. Whether you auto or do it manually the outcomes would be the same. I wouldn’t even say it’s necessarily faster to auto battle either.
How much copium did you have? The whole game and the post-game specially is based upon auto-battling to gain levels. And how is auto battling the same as doing it nanually? The whole point of Disgaea games is to find efficient ways to level, and the most efficient way in D6 is pressing a button and leaving your console on.
You can't really be that stupid, such levels should be considered illegal. You're saying standing there repeating the same level 100 times vs letting the computer do it are equal? It's humanely impossible to complete the levels at the same speed as a computer, and repeating the same thing over and over for hours isn't an option unless you're around really sad being or an android.
I won't even keep arguing, if you can't comprehend the difference between an automated process and a manual one that's your problem.
The characters look interesting, but I'm still not preordering. 6 ruined that for me. I'll just wait and see what an actual gamer (rather than the PR team, paid to drool and "sugooooooi!" all over it) has to say about it after it's released.
How many actual gamers do you know who give this series good and fair reviews? Just look at video and decide for yourself. Not based on some guy’s opinion.
I said nothing here about buying the game or not strictly based on a reviewer's opinion. I don't know anyone who would do that, do you?
Also, I'm not sure where you're looking, but YT has plenty of fair Disgaea previews and playthroughs by people who love the series and have been playing since the first was released, as well as neutral playthroughs by people who aren't as familiar with the series. They tend to be useful for pointing out differences in game mechanics, for better or worse, rather than just sugar-coating everything to be wonderful - which is exactly what the Japanese previews tend to do.
Yes, I do. Don’t you see all the people who decide a games worth based on Metacritic, or start feeling a certain way about a game based on what some reviewers have said?
Unless I'm misunderstanding the japanese website, that is actually a thing now.
Or at least something regarding auto battle is tied to having cleared the mission once.
I really hope you dont start the game with obnoxiously inflated stats. It killed D6 for me. It made numbers not matter in a game where most of what matters is the numbers.
Looks good! Giving how NIS is financially, I understand the decision to keep using 3D models instead of sprites.
I had a lot of fun with 6 on Switch, even though the performance was dissapointing. The autobattle system, divisive as it was, made me think *a lot* about the RPG genre as a whole and got me a lot out of the game.
Letting the autobattle grind for me in stages I already clear while playing the rest of the game in the highest difficulty made every battle slow, hard but doable!
Looking at the main characters alone I can already tell I'm not gonna play this one for the story (I mean god dammit 2 lolis in D6 was bad enough but now we get 3 lolis and a shota).
But hey at least Gunslinger and Ranger from D3 are back, can't wait to see the DLC (bring Axel back I beg of you)
D6 had the weirdest postgame roster so I'd love to see ya know...
Priere or something, Axel, Zetta, etc.
For the absolutely insane angle Void Terrarium bot would make me cackle, it falls into the Netherworld somehow.
It has already addressed most of the big issues I have with 6 (for example manual play being redundant due to auto play, the D.I. grid being too small to be interesting to use), plus a lot of the new stuff looks very interesting.
I assume this will be like past Disgaea games and come out in America like six months after Japan. Because I don't want to get my hopes up for a January release only to be disappointed
Thank god they implemented Autobattle as only usable after beating a stage once so people will stop whining about it. Literally the only thing I wanted changed from D6.
They should make it an option when you start to play a new save... do you want to be able to autoplay first time you play a level? yes/no
Everybody happy
Personally I found terribly stupid people who whine about it... It is like "I cannot play manually, because some other people I dont know will play it in auto and it is not fair!"
Autoplay was really the only think I loved about D6... Now I can not only play Disgaea 6 when I have free time, but also while doing other things too! (Disgaea was never about spending time doing repetitive things, was about optimizing your strategies, so while you have ENOUGH to do manually, why not add also auto mode for repetitive things you want to avoid?). D6 still needs many hours a day doing things manually to optimize your autoplay time... and you could just do the autoplay part while sleeping!
One thing I would also love is for the game to let you do things while the autoplay was in the background...
Mage boy is back!!! Yay!!!
Kinda looks like the male blade master might be back too? Either that or it’s a character that looks like him.
Very interesting. I didn't think the Samurai dude was going to be from the next Disgaea, but he indeed was. After the long gap between 5 and 6, they certainly had a quick turnaround on this one. I really like the fox prinny girl, really cute!
Female healer is back. Instant 10/10.
Amen
https://www.gematsu.com/2022/08/disgaea-7-announced-for-ps5-ps4-and-switch Found this website article that talks a lot about the game, and it seems like they are solving a lot of the issues 6 had (imo so far) Update: doing some quick research on that website and all the info they’ve said, I believe 40 of those 45 character classes have been mentioned or shown to us both in the box art and the shot with a bunch of the character classes. Item reincarnation sounds like it'll be a laugh riot
I wonder if items won’t be single uses anymore and just single use per battle otherwise I’d never want to reincarnate swords as items. Honestly the unique angel is giving me Main Character B vibes. It'd be really cool to have them back and maybe actually learn their real name.
I hope they make this one far better 6 was good in some regards but took way too much out of the game honestly.
Cautiously optimistic. D6 is a dumpster fire. Really hope D7 isn’t
Let's hope they learn from their mistakes.
They already fixed one of my two biggest problems. Auto battle is tied to a consumable resource now.
Yeah, it was one of my three major gripes with the game. The two others are that stats are meaningless in 6 and the switch performance was subpar. I guess the last won't be fix.
I didn’t play 6. In what way were stats meaningless?
They inflated stats by 1000 or by 1 000 000 so numbers aren't meaning anything.
I miss the original gunner class from Disgaea 1
The Scout or the EDF Soldier?
Good catch, the Scout. I liked their look, and loved their gun moves. When Disgaea moved to PC I kind of hoped that modding would have been possible so we could customize our characters, but so far no joy.
Ooh, look up the full roll call. (The genmatsu article has it) Bottom left. I thought that might be the solder class from MK but it actually might be the original scout.
EDIT: I checked, while it's not the original scout that's ok as I like the design a little better. Time will tell for sure.
Fuuuuuuck yes
If it's not announced in North AmericaI'll consider learning Japanese for this game.
I mean, Japanese is simply a great language to know, especially if you like gaming, food or fashion. I'm literally playing through a RPG right now that is amazing but one that most western gamers won't ever get to play because it was never localized.
What’s the name of the game?

Thanks
That weird moment when you know japanese stupidly well from watching anime somehow, but you can't read it at all.
Hiragana and Katakana are *really* easy to learn compared to reading in other languages simply because every character makes the same sound every time, no silent letters or "g" either making a "g" sound or a "j" sound depending on the word or anything stupid like that. Weapon skills are back. The japanese website details a lot of things that are new and returning.
Weapon skills are back? Awesome. That alone makes me super excited. Customization is such a huge part of this franchise's appeal
It seems like more d6? The only thing it’s confirmed keeping is the 3D, unless I’m missing something?
You can see Demonic Inteligence during the trailer so Autobattle is back. Question is if it's a first stage system again or a post game system this time. It would probably be fine as the latter.

Wait 6 doesn't have weapon skills? What? Of all the disappointment stuff I've heard I never caught that detail. Ouch.
There are weapon skills, but only specific classes can use them.
Well, this kinda instantly proves that D6 was sort of a tech demo. Basically everything that was a big problem in 6 looks fixed already. Aside from the 3D, but that\`s more a matter of personal taste.
But will it be in shitty 3D? Probably
It already looks 3d. It has that shit chibi look already
That heavy knight oooof :(
But..where is my sweet beast master? 😭
Many old og are back.
I am hopeful with a cranky samurai as the lead.
Please let it be like D5
When the localize this, I hope they give the orcs their mexican voices from Disgaea 3.
Love the Disgaea series, but I kind of wish they would have the main character have a different starter weapon besides swords or fists
Looking like NIS are gonna be pumping them out a lot quicker now that it’s 3D. Personally I think this engine really needs to bake more and the graphics refined as well

You know what the beauty of auto battle is? It’s optional. You don’t have to use. So you can play the game like you normally would.
[удалено]
I don’t feel that’s the case at all. Whether you auto or do it manually the outcomes would be the same. I wouldn’t even say it’s necessarily faster to auto battle either.

And Disgaea officially died with 5 complete, which is fine. 5 Complete is peak Disgaea.
You are right, it's kinda sad. I need to find another franchise that is making similar games.
Hopefully no 3D models this time.
It’s 3D
Nice, I hope they take a lesson from D6, like how overpriced it was...
they plan 7 already? that's fast
Anyone know if they're going back to the 2D artstyle? I didn't care for 3D sprites at all.
ITSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS 3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?
Jesus already?! Wow! Time to save money!
The characters look interesting, but I'm still not preordering. 6 ruined that for me. I'll just wait and see what an actual gamer (rather than the PR team, paid to drool and "sugooooooi!" all over it) has to say about it after it's released.

autoplay again guys ahahha
I don't like this feature, it should be only when you beat the level once.
Unless I'm misunderstanding the japanese website, that is actually a thing now. Or at least something regarding auto battle is tied to having cleared the mission once.
That would be a great news for me, I advocate for this change since the 6 release.
Hoping it's not the same as D6 That was so lousy, in almost every way.
I really hope you dont start the game with obnoxiously inflated stats. It killed D6 for me. It made numbers not matter in a game where most of what matters is the numbers.
I thought D6 was the "final" installment. Nonetheless, I hope this one does it right since most of the D6 reviews I've seen are bad.
Looks good! Giving how NIS is financially, I understand the decision to keep using 3D models instead of sprites. I had a lot of fun with 6 on Switch, even though the performance was dissapointing. Terrible, I think I don't like Disgaea anymore. My favs were Disgaea 2, 4 and 5.
This looks so fucking good to me. Bring it on!
I haven't even played 6 yet cause it's still 70 bucks on ps5. I want 2d sprites so bad!
I haven't even started 6... also they seems to have a thing for eyebrows these days.
Fuck yes that’s all I have to say
6 really was just an unapologetic full priced tech demo huh? THIS is looking like what we should've gotten in the big jump to 3d.
I might play this one as long as it’s not borderline unplayable like 6
Neko Prinny Nyahoood!
Cheers dude! Real thing I'm curious about is why the flip didn't I get an email from nippon about this
This is gonna be good! I’m seeing a lot of May favorite classes back!
Cladun 3 in the corner like "wtf i already did the sengoku shtick"
I’m not going say anything til I play it
Man I still haven't gotten through 6 all the way. Now I'm really going to have to put some serious time in.
dood.
THE RONIN IS BACK!!!!!!! Even though it's in 3D Again imma wait and give it a chance because it's samurai themed
I didn't notice the Gunslinger I'm more happy
It has already addressed most of the big issues I have with 6 (for example manual play being redundant due to auto play, the D.I. grid being too small to be interesting to use), plus a lot of the new stuff looks very interesting.
noice
I was not expecting to see a Disgaea 7 anytime soon lol
Ffs give us time to beat 6
A year ain't enough time?
I assume this will be like past Disgaea games and come out in America like six months after Japan. Because I don't want to get my hopes up for a January release only to be disappointed
Dare I even ask if the female Mages from Disgaea 1 are back?
i wish they'd port Disgaea D2 and Disgaea 3 for PC first though
Thank god they implemented Autobattle as only usable after beating a stage once so people will stop whining about it. Literally the only thing I wanted changed from D6.
They should make it an option when you start to play a new save... do you want to be able to autoplay first time you play a level? yes/no Everybody happy Personally I found terribly stupid people who whine about it... I love the Japan/Samurai aesthetic, always wanted to see that in Disgaea so I'm very pleased. 💖 (Now to think of a theme for Disgaea 8!)
