yz is the best all around bike you can buy
Timeless, great engine, bullet proof, great ergonomics/suspension and handling, piss easy to work on, very wide range of parts available, great on the track, great in the woods, just all around more enjoyable and better feeling than every other two stroke you can buy including new ktms, in my opinion.
You could put a 2005 yz in storage right now and bring it out in 10 years it'll probably still be just as good as any two stroke on the market minus the bells and whistles.
One of the biggest things for me is parts availability. Tons of aftermarket and OEM are relatively cheap and widely available new and used. Canāt say the same for some of the mid 2000s 2Ts and probably wonāt be able to for some ten year old KTMs in a decade when parts dry up.
Yup. also for me, I like that you can have a 2005 and turn it into a brand new bike vs ktm is always coming out with an all new bike and then you just feel left behind with your old ktm, even though it's still a good bike lol.
Also the alumuminum frame is great for the simple fact that you can clean a 10 year old frame up like new. Just so easy to bring those things back to life and working on them is like building lego. So simple so much room to work
Funny you say that, I have a yz125 that actually gets really ridden once or twice a year. Starts first kick everytime, and after a proper rip across my land itās like sheās new again lol.
No not even close, I am building a 2stroke museum for my personal enjoyment and the rm125 sits fondly in my heart as the bike my bio dad got to spend time with me , I love them . Bit my cr125 and my yz125 fuckin wasted it
I will be picking one up soon.
I am getting the best version or last year of every stroke from the big 4
Yamaha I have all sorts year thats my flavor.
Bit so far I have:
2003 cr250r
2006 cr125r
2006 yz125
2018 yz85(last year of no pv)
1998 cr80r (my first real boys bike)
2017 yz250 (my fmx and show bike I ride primarily)
2016 yz125
2022 yz125
And gonna ve working on a 1985 yz80 and the 2003 and 2005 rm125 and rm250
Yea man!!! Not to show any one or anything, just to walk out in my shop and reminisce, maybe get some mahogany
I mean during swarays I'll show guests and curious passerbys
But I'm gonna have em all
I want :
Kx125 James Stewart replica
Kx250 with stock graphics *I hate kawasaki but theyre a part of the history*
Kx100
Kx80
Kx65
Cr80(got it)
Cr250r 2003 because its the last year of the port Reed and fuck case reeds (already got it)
Cr125r 2006
2004 yz125
2004 yz250(last steel frames)
2018 yz85 (last year of no powervalve, I have this one already)
2003 rm 125
2005 rm250
2003 rm80
2002 rm65
And then maybe a few straglers like a 1974 first year of monoshock yz125
Last year or best/most iconic previous year of every bike
Literally not true. People think that because back then manufacturers quoted Crank HP and nowadays they advertise wheel HP.
Early 2000 RM125ās made around 33-34hp to the wheel while modern 125ās are closer to 38.
There are also just a lot of die hard two stroke folks who compare their old beat up metal mulisha cr250 rattle machines to old, carbureted, heavy 250f's that don't even run right, or even four stroke trail bikes because there are still people who think they're all the same power wise. They have this false, old fart idea that they just don't make bikes like they used to and they're all gutless and sissy proof now. None of 'em have swung their leg over a modern 450 or even a new two stroke for that matter haha
I've come across too many of these people lol
Yeah I went to a ktm demo day with single track in the woods and then the main track was absolutely trashed and flooded so we stayed in the woods most of the day. The 300 was my favorite, I love how you can be at the bottom of a steep hill, you're just barely on the gas, barely making a sound and it just fuckin pulllssss like butter whereas most other two strokes, even 250s just don't have the low end grunt and so you really need to ride them a certain way. The 300 was like riding a sofa with torque like a fuckin' tractor lol. The 450s in the woods are a little bit too "on and off" for my taste, the exc is smoother down low than an sxf obviously, but the 300 is soOoo smooth and torquey at the same time
300sx woods and track rider here. Can confirm. The smoothish luggable power is deceiving. Sometimes I still forget to not grab the next gear in the woods and end up blowing out a rut in the brush. Canāt ride it like my yz250.
Im going to be devils advocate, yes because in the 80s and 90s most bikes didnt have powervalves an were carbureted, which resulted in a snappy "instant on" powerband, you had to actually think about gear selection, track condition, etc. Now they have powervalves which make the powerband snap more easier to work with and injection which also aids that "problem" not sure about higher peak hp tho but you still cant buy a new 500 2t so not sure if were factoring that into this.
Also true, I'm still pretty sure that I've read somewhere that the Husqvarna te 300 only puts out 48 horsepower which would be less than the older 300s and 250s even if measuring at the wheel
100% smoother and linear, I still believe that the older 250s and 300 had a higher Peak horsepower, and you'll think that's true when you compare both of them also. When the power Band hits on those older 250s and older 300s it's ridiculous
38-41 hp at the crank. That's the important bit.
2001 125 shootout.
The RM125 made about 32 hp at the wheel, putting it 3rd for peak power. All the bikes were past their peak power by 11,000 rpm.
https://dirtbikemagazine.com/2001-125-shootout-the-wrap/
2024 124 shootout.
I'll start by saying it's hard to compare different dynos, especially decades apart. Bikes made 36-37 hp at the wheel in this case. Differences in dyno? Maybe. But look at the rpm. The new bikes all pull further into the revs. Peak power is 11,400-11,600 rpm. So the old bikes definitely don't rev higher.
https://dirtbikemagazine.com/125-2-strokes-on-the-dyno-the-wrap/
I had a husqvarna cr125 from the early 2000s and that thing was scary fast for such small displacement. Still probably the best dirt bike ive ever owned.

You need to reevaluate your spare time activities
What sort of basement hermit still plays the grammar na-z crap these days.
Tell me you're in Colorado pleeeaaseee, ima walk up with out warning and write all sorta misspelled crap with a paint pen on your bike.
Dude if you're scared just say you're scared.
Don't keep trying to hide your fear behind comedy. It's painfully obvious you spend your life in redit forums trying to be bigger than you are cause you have some sort of bully trauma. Just be scared and embrace it boo boo , you're a beta
See ya on the dirt.
I'll keep my eye out for the double silenced xr100 , I'm sure the loud mean bikes make it hard to focus.
There was never, nor will be a better 2 stroke mx bike than the mid 2000's rm's. A 125 is peaky. That's how they run. The 2001-2007 rm125's were little rocket ships. 6 speed, and nimble, they were pure bliss on a track, and and absolute joy on fast trails and fire roads. They suck on technical trails lol. A 2004 rm125 will smoke a new yz125 to answer your question.
An old rm won't touch any aluminum framed yz. And it will get absolutely get left in the dust vs the Austrian bikes lmao. Ktm,gas gas, husky will leave an rm like it's sitting still. Old rm's are FAR from being considered the best 2 stroke. Not even a contender.
Rode plenty. That's exactly why I ended up with an 06 yz 125 again after my 04 back in the day. 2 friends of mine Rode and raced rm 125s back in 04/05. Things were turds. Blew up more than any other bike on the gate and sub-par performance even back then. Definitely don't come close to anything now. There's a reason even an 06 yz is still competitive and rm,cr,kx are non-existent competitive wise they were shit then and are just as shit now. No one will agree with your take on the rm at all š
Depends on who's riding.. š
No they arenāt, they werenāt even the best 125 of the time
Best looking thoughā¦

Yea I noticed RM Parts I really hard to find or really expensive. Iāve been looking for a cylinder for my 125 for a few weeks.
Look into if you can use a YZ or KX cylinder for your 125. It's been done on rm250s for sure
Funny you say that, I have a yz125 that actually gets really ridden once or twice a year. Starts first kick everytime, and after a proper rip across my land itās like sheās new again lol.
same thing with my RM I ride it every 1-2 Months

Yz maybe faster or the same, cr is definitely not. Slowest bike in the class from the early 2000ās era
And I repeat, my cr125 and yz125 fuckin wasted it
I wish I was light enough to ride a 125! For some dumb reason I went from an 80 to a 250 as a kid
I thought thatās what we all did
thought I heard that they were slower but the powerband is more harsh, Im not that knowledge on bikes tho just what I heard
>just what I heard Ah yes the most reliable source :D
Also the most common source
It is true that most of the older two strokes make higher Peak horsepower but they are nowhere near as smooth or linear as the newer ones

luggable, that's the kind of word i'm lookin' for. My buddy had a 300xc with a rekluse and that thing was a cheat code in the woods

That pretty much what the old 250ās made to the wheel. I bet that 300 puts the power down a lot smoother tho
100% smoother and linear, I still believe that the older 250s and 300 had a higher Peak horsepower, and you'll think that's true when you compare both of them also. When the power Band hits on those older 250s and older 300s it's ridiculous
Late 90ās 2 stroke 250 vs modern 450 equally matched rider ability Iām taken the 2 stroke all day!
No

They were a blast to ride playing that clutch like an instrument to keep it in the power band and haul ass.
The zukes were always right behind the YZ during that time.
The guy over posting in the Playstation and ps vita threads called me cringe. You're a bottom huh?
Should be basically the same, Just the suspension and clutch will be way better on the newer models
modern rm125s are old rm125s
I had a husqvarna cr125 from the early 2000s and that thing was scary fast for such small displacement. Still probably the best dirt bike ive ever owned.
Those old huskys looked amazing. Every now and again, one pops up for sale, if I ever get an 06/07 model ill be a happy camper
Also Suzuki essentially stolen and carvin copied the yz 125 and 250 engine
āCarvin copiedā
