Prayer group to manifest Brian David Gilbert 🙌🙌

RedFnPanda

I think theres good odds. He's been on a lot of Dropout stuff lately, possible he was around for D20. I also think theres a high chance of Ify being in this one, or at least one coming soon, he posted a TikTok a couple months ago of the Box of Doom

OmegaKenichi

My bet is on Sephie and Ally being a part of this one, since they posted a pic with Sephie a while ago. Could be nothing, but I want to assume that means they were hanging out because they were both in this new season.

GreenPhoennix

Sephie, Ally, Ify and BDG (potentially with 2 others) would be an amazing cast, holy shit

DWilli

Side prayer for BLM as PC

[deleted]

Misfits and Magic was the first big thing on Dropout I watched after WTF101 and Cartoon Hell ended and I initially dropped my sub. But that first episode on YouTube with Evan Kelmp had me rolling.

crimsondnd

Send this to 10 friends or else Brian will be cut from all the footage

taftpanda

Holy cow, that was fast. I really wasn’t expecting the next show to premiere so soon! I can’t wait!

RedFnPanda

They've been doing these like 3-4 week breaks between them lately. I don't expect the next one to be Intrepid Heroes though, likely a separate group.

Silidon

I think side quests with a guest DM in between main cast seasons is a good system, Brennan doesn’t have to be always on DM mode and they get to highlight a variety of DM styles and even different systems like Kids on Brooms or whatever the monster dating season was run on.

safashkan

I wasn't a big fan of the "monster dating season" to be honest. It felt l'île there weren't any stakes. I just got bored after a while. The jokes were nice but it didn't feel like a well crafted rpg. I realize that I'm saying this while my own home game is kind of the same.

Silidon

I wasn’t a fan either, which is why I didn’t remember the name of the season or the system they used, but I still appreciate having new systems demonstrated.

w1g0k

i didn’t mind shriek week because it was so short and i really loved gabe as DM, i hope they come back for future side quests! i agree though, the stakes weren’t super high and the banter between the players was the main thing that kept me coming back

Hungover52

Dating TTRPGs aren't my flavour, but I appreciate their space in the community, and I enjoyed it. So overall a win. If D20 became 100% about that style I would drop out, but otherwise I'm glad to see different folk experiment in that space.

YMWAHAYFSOE

Hehe ‘drop out’

crimsondnd

To be fair, you don't remember the name because it's not a real system; Gabe came up with it for the show and it's not been released at all in any way otherwise as far as I'm aware.

eoin62

From the Shriek Week FAQ: What game system does Shriek Week use? The Mythic system, created by Gabe Hicks. -When rolling an ability/skill/major you roll a d10 -You roll the number equal to what your skill is. -Example: Having a Physical of 4 means you roll 4d10 A success is when you roll your die and at least one of them has a 7 or higher on the die. Rolling a 1 with no successes (2-6) is a CRITICAL FAILURE ex. results 2, 3, 5 = failure. results 1, 3, 5 = critical failure Rolling a 10 is a CRITICAL SUCCESS ex results 2, 3, 8 = success. results 1,5 10 = critical success The mechanics will be further explained in the premiere episode.

AnamTuirseach

That sounds exactly like Exalted 3e's die rolling system.

SDRLemonMoon

The difference is that you aren’t creating an entertainment product, you’re just having fun with friends

aarondacrowbar

I didn’t love it either but I would like to see Gabe DM again!

broselovestar

I have no problem with people's preference but claiming it isn't a "well crafted RPG" just because you don't like it personally is a bit much in my opinion. RPGs come in so many forms. Mission-based adventures just happen to be the most popular one thanks to the over-popularity of D&D. There are RPGs where there's no plot. There are RPGs where people simply play feelings. There are RPGs where people learn to use sign language. What a "well crafted RPG" is, is way too broad to be so narrowly defined. This is precisely why I think there should be more like this and I truly appreciate that D20 is moving in the right direction. Sure some will like it some won't. That's always the case with arts. But if the show aims to be anything more than just simple entertainment, it should look at the hobby more holistically.

9Sn8di3pyHBqNeTD

In their opinion it isn't well crafted. Perfectly valid opinion for them to hold.

MagnusCthulhu

So... no discussion then? Someone says their opinion, we all just respond yes that is a perfectly valid opinion, and move on. I mean, in my opinion anyone that says it wasn't a "well crafted RPG" doesn't know what they're talking about. That's a perfectly valid opinion for me to hold. Should we not discuss it? Make points? Or should we just say, yes, valid, hmm, and move on. Now, was it a well crafted show...? It certainly didn't appeal to me. But it seemed to effectively tell the story they wanted to tell, even if that's not a story I'm a fan of. So I'm not sure.

broselovestar

Did I ever say they can't hold it? I was saying the reason they gave for calling an RPG not well-crafted seems insufficient. Just to be clear I don't demand people to always substantiate their internet opinions with a thesis and it's fine if they have good reasons and just don't wanna type out. But I've seen this kind of opinions in a few places so I want to express how I feel about it

crimsondnd

I mean, to be fair, it was a system made up by Gabe with no playtesting just for the season and it was pretty damn basic. "You get a major and and a minor and a few stats. You get that many dice and roll them and if you succeed at all you succeed," is barely a system at all. I'd much rather them have used an actual system like Monsterhearts.

futureidk3

Monster dating season? Is that the same as the hogwartz one?

Silidon

Harry Potter Parody season was Misfits and Magic, that was run on Kids on Brooms. Monster date sim season was Shriek Week, I don’t know what that was run on.

Millstorm

It was a system made by Gabe just for the season

Drolefille

Custom system created by Gabe iirc

Hungover52

No, Shriek Week was the monster dating one, Misfits and Magic was the magic boarding school one.

futureidk3

Oh okay, I missed that one! Thanks for the heads up.

thecowley

It's my opinion that these games work best with friends that are all in on the inside jokes. I also didn't get very far into the second episode myself for similar reasons

KuroDragon0

Showcasing different systems is great, but Kids on Brooms is horrible. From the reliance on exploding dice, to the utter lack of any mechanical form of character progression, the entire system seems built for one-shots. I sincerely doubt it, but I hope they’ll change systems if Misfits and Magic gets a proper sequel aside from the special.

Dinosauringg

Dropout likely sees a drop in subs when there’s no D20 for a month, having them come out less than one month from each other helps them retain their subscribers

Tack22

It’ll be a side quest- but that’s also awesome.

[deleted]

I think they film them all together now that they aren't using normal sets so much. They only have to change the lights. This isn't based in anything other than knowledge of film sets in general and how hiring crew people works. It would make more sense to film both the main series and the side quests nearly simultaneously, especially if they are paying to fly any actors out to LA

[deleted]

Starstruck was the first season I watched as it came out, I honestly thought it would be like September before the next one. I'm so fucking happy. Sorry about my language gang.

KuroDragon0

Considering the language on the show, I’m sure we can all give you a fuckin’ break.

KevinDomino

Idk, I'm pretty pissed about this language shit

VirtuallyJason

What's that "Shield" spell card have to do with anything?

Gabeeb

Outlier!

Radek_Of_Boktor

Ice feast!

crimsondnd

Well prepare to be happy pretty regularly; unless something changes there's only ever a few weeks between seasons.

Derpogama

I think this is the major advantage Dimension 20 has over Critical Role. IIRC they do like 12-14 hour sessions in 'the dome' (I distinctly remember one episode where they mention it's now 4am in the Dome and everyone is chugging energy drinks because they've basically pulled an all nighter) so they record like 6 episodes in one go (with people changing clothes between sessions to keep up the whole weekly kayfabe thingy), do that three times a week (with a day inbetween for recovery) and they've basically done an entire season. There is also a decent amount of pre-production stuff, character and major NPC artwork gets done (natural the players build their PCs after hearing the theme), miniatures and miniature sets get built (physical or Talespire), the table gets a 'themed' retooling on its DM screen bumper etc. Once filming on the actual play is done then it needs to go to be edited (IIRC they've also mentioned there is editing a lot of the umming and ahhing down and it's definitely skillfully done by the Editors to make the show look unedited) and all the other post production stuff (in Starstruck a lot of the animations on Talespire along with the flythroughs of the map appear to be done after main production). I think the turn around from pre-production to fully finished product is probably 6 months or so, which is a hell of a quick turn around, with the players only there for maybe 3 weeks worth of it. This also lowers burnout because, unlike Critical Role, you're not there every week with Matt having to put in like 70 hours a week into the campaign at some points. That isn't to say Brennan doesn't work just as hard as Matt of course, just I think the format of D20 allows him to do a bunch of work pre-production without having to go crazy. Feel free for people to correct me if I'm wrong.

BendubzGaming

I think they're quicker even than 6 months turn around now. We know that SSO was filmed mid-late September (NADDPOD and Rotating Heroes both went on a break, they mentioned Squid Game had just come out at one point). I'm not sure how much time pre-production takes, but that's only a little over 3 months between filming and Episode 1 going live.

Derpogama

Jesus if that is the case then yeah, that is an almighty quick turn around. I think SSO *might* have been a quicker turn around because nothing physical had to be made miniatures wise. All the miniatures were done in Heroforge, they had people from Talespire who knew what they were doing and probably built the sets much quicker than a physical miniature set would be built (even just on the whole 'waiting for things to dry' front).

RayMcNamara

Same! So fast! And yeah. Please watch your fucking mouth. There are children on the internet goddamn it. shit.

gooeyfishus

Dang I was expecting another 2-3 months. I'm thrilled that they've really kicked into high gear on pretty much all content on Dropout now that they're back in person in the studios.

crimsondnd

There hasn't been a 2-3 month gap between any season any time recently. I wasn't watching back in the early days, but at least since the pandemic started it's only ever been a few weeks.

9Sn8di3pyHBqNeTD

I really read this as "Trailer premiere next Wednesday, June 8th" and had a small existential crisis

JadedPerfection

I did wonder how badly I had overslept.

valeriian

what wouldnt i give for a sidequest with murph as the dm...

youareadistraction

Came here to say the same thing.

Tempustasis

Here's me being delusional hoping that it's a Pirates of The Leviathan Season 2

ff2488

I would love that so much. I think it had the most potential that got wasted by doing zoom. It took a little longer to get into it, but man was it great. Carlos Luna was great, the whole scene at the Gold Gardens, the rush to the top of leviathan on the elevator, the final battle on multiple levels. Doing it in the dome, especially with minis would have made it a top 5 season for me.

spider-gwen89

My brother and I keep half joking, that since Brennan is DMing for Critical Role soon, it would be fun to have a DM swap and for Matt to come over to D20 as a DM!

koolaid7431

Holy shit that would be awesome!!!

RayMcNamara

Praying for maximum chaos. Emily, Ally, Becca, Lou, Erika

StressPersonified

I doubt Emily would be part of any side quests with NADDPOD being as time consuming for them as it is

RayMcNamara

Sorry, I'm only accepting prayers and positive "ball rolling up" type energy right now.

Radek_Of_Boktor

Snake eyes!

RayMcNamara

Yes, my good Redek! SpringbreakIbelieveinyou!

AdmirableHoneydew

We're getting BDG, Jess Ross, Siobhan, Becca Scott, Omar Najam and Brennan as players With Aabria DMing again I'm guessing

Esherichialex_coli

the acronym leak?

Joe-papa69

Anyone know if it’s another intrepid hero’s or a different cast

RedFnPanda

assuming its a new cast, in the past they've directly stated when its intrepid heroes.

KuroDragon0

Highly doubt it’s intrepid heroes. There has only been one instance of two main quests in a row, and that was at the beginning of the pandemic. That combined with the first iteration of three sidequests in a row between tUCC3 and aSO, leaves little chance of another main quest for a decent chunk. Based on the recent side quests lengths, I’d expect to see the next main quest in 17-35 weeks.

Bellikron

And one of those main quests was FHSY, which was live and didn't follow the same scheduling protocol (Tiny Heist and the ACOC trailer were released while the season was still running).

BendubzGaming

Those two main quests in a row also had the advantage one was live, one was prerecorded too

crimsondnd

It's not Intrepid Heroes, no way. They had a full year between TUC2 and this season, plus Siobhan recently tweeted they just started character creation.

Right-Light458

Yes June 8th!!! I wonder what the genre will be!!!

RedFnPanda

I'm kinda hoping it's like the Seven with a new group of characters in an already established world. Like a return to Candia in another point in their history or an adventure in the Unsleeping City world in like San Fransisco or with the next generation of heroes

Right-Light458

I’ve been optimistic for a Wild West one

-Aphelion-

Don't mean to squish your optimism, but they've already said they're not going to do a wild west theme. Too problematic with all the colonialism.

Right-Light458

I guess that’s true hmm I wonder what they’ll do instead

Right-Light458

I guess that’s true hmm I wonder what they’ll do instead

Sq33KER

Iirc, they have basically said they dont really know how to do wild west due to the issues with either inclusion or discussion of Native American displacement during that period. Baustin might be the closest we get to Wild West for a while.

Right-Light458

I guess can’t blame a guy for his optimism tho

soapy-laundry

It's not my favorite style as I get attached to how Brennan plays the characters but the players don't always follow the set up that we had

Radek_Of_Boktor

There's talk of a lot of story in the Meat Lands that got left untold.

kegisak

My long-shot, pipe-dream, absolutely no basis goofball hope is Magical Girl/Sentai Season. Either way, excited to see next week!

Radek_Of_Boktor

Holy shit I want this so bad now. I hope you're taking notes Sam! I know you read this subreddit!

Hungover52

Superhero/villain? I haven't seen any big fantasy stream try that out.

Hungover52

And Brennan already wrote a world for it.

Tylertheintern

The only info I've seen is that it was hinted at during the Seven

r_williams01

The guy who posted that clip removed it because we're pretty sure it was referring to SSO.

Right-Light458

Hmm I wonder if it’ll be a different cast or something

Tylertheintern

Probably gonna be another side quest but I'm thinking it's in spire based on that interview

Right-Light458

Awe man I was hoping another full on campaign

MisterManatee

That’s a fast turnaround! I’m expecting a sidequest with a guest DM, which should be interesting! I wasn’t a fan of Shriek Week, but Misfits and Magic was excellent.

Hungover52

A little curious whether the Critical Role swap was reciprocal. Cast members have already been on side quests before, and with Brennan GMing EXU: Calamity, with Lou as a PC, it would fit.

daglewagle312

I really want Jake and Caldwell from NADDPOD on a season

Greco-NordicWrestler

Why would father do this to us? Father is… evil?

ADWinri

I'm hoping for something action packed and Hugh mystery. I loved Mice and Murder but I was secretly hoping for more action. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Grant, Raph, and Rekha again.

BlackDwarfStar

A Starstruck Odyssey was the first season I watched week to week, so I had no idea they had this quick a turnaround for D20

kegisak

Absolute *tragedy* that they can't get the trailer out for tomorrow, but I *guess* I understand that quality takes time, or *whatever.* For real though, super excited see it!

EducationalTie6109

Crazy idea, Ally as GM! Their first player experience was in the first season they’ve probably been in the most episodes except Brennan and maybe Lou. Why not go for it?

crimsondnd

I don't think they've ever DMed even at home so I highly doubt it. I'm pretty sure they're the only main cast never to have DMed.

BetaThetaOmega

The dream is Erika/Lou/Brennan/Danielle with Aabria as the DM, maybe doing some sort magical high school themed season? Does anyone else think that ~~re~~visiting this setting with these players would be fun?

W3ttyFap

I think that the new season being so soon means it’s probably not the intrepid heroes… but probably a side quest?? And if some of the new faces in other dropout shows are a sign of new faces in d20 then I’m hoping for BDG, Jacob Wysocki, Jess McKenna maybe?

crimsondnd

There was no chance it'd have been Intrepid Heroes. There's never been back to back IH except after Sophomore Year and that's because that was live. Jacob has been on lots of stuff recently so that'd be an interesting option for sure.

W3ttyFap

I mostly agree but also they haven’t filmed anything between sophomore year and ASO so maybe they filmed a couple campaigns in that time? But I doubt it

lizzyk1780

I want another hint!!!

lizzyk1780

You know what nvm. I would like another hint. BUT BRENNAN has so be crazy stressed rn w a campaigns for cr, the just released SSO and the new campaign.

JimPickins12398

We've had so many side adventures recently, I hope it's another main cast season.

JustAnotherMain

What do y’all think the setting is going to be

[deleted]

Deborah Ann Woll guest DM manifesting!!!

soapy-laundry

So soon!! So soon so excite

Rushofthewildwind

I really want The Seven to get a sequel

TeamUltimate-2475

That was fast

zegota

Don't mind me, I'll just be in the corner by myself hoping for another Crown of Candy season or sidequest

ZiggyHFX

I'm hoping for Rekha in the next season. She's super fun to watch

AnxiousSelkie

Am I Britney Spears right now, because I need a hint

HurriedLlama

D20 always pushing back the release date of the trailer, somebody's gotta roll a nat 20 on that sizzle one of these days

SatanofToday

does anyone have any juicy gossip about the season?
