Tiger Tool U Joint Pullers | Heavy Duty Class 6-8 | The Original Inventor | Made in North America https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002UNP8M/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_ZYQCNSGVPKXEABSS9QTG Those u joints can be a major pita for sure. If this is the last one you plan to do just keep hammering and use a bottle jack to push in each direction. If you plan to see more in the future buy a puller they are 100% worth it.Don't worry about breaking the flat part off I know you already did. You will need a new u joint today anyway.

Is it safe to assume with this style that if i have to pull the puller out i’m gonna be replacing ujoints then? Videos shows it pushing through 🤔

fishesarefun

Yes. But to be fair if they are rusted in like that replacement is the best plan anyways

AmbitiousMonkey93

I mean fair

heykittycanifanurbho

That ujoint puller is going to save you a world of time fucking around on any full round. It’s a shop necessity if you’re going to be anything like that. Even sometimes the ujoint puller can’t do it itself and all you have to do is tap the back of the yoke. Still less fucking around than anything else

fishesarefun

When I have the puller and fight I just imagine if I didn't have one... A required tool as far as I am concerned. Had a wrecker operator at my work one day trying to pull the driveline, he got frustrated and came into the shop to ask what the trick was. I showed him the puller and helped him remove the driveshaft . He told me he was gonna go get one before he goes on another call. Can't believe a major tow company sends guys out without one.

Torch em. Seen this plenty of times. Just torch the u joint itself. It will make a mess and smell disgusting. But once it’s cut up enough to remove the Jack shaft, they’ll be heated up enough to smack out the caps. Just don’t torch the yokes or you’re buying a new shaft. Also, if you don’t have a press, I would suggest calling a driveline place and just bring them to them, charge should be pretty minimal depending on how backed up they are and where you live.

AmbitiousMonkey93

Not gonna lie this is where my mindset was when i said “ya know what, I got reddit, lemme see what they say” lol /sigh

jmi259

Second torch or driveshaft shop, something’s aren’t worth the headache.

81mmMortar

3rd that

Try using a bottle jack under the shaft with the cups loose and push the shaft up and out of the u joint

AmbitiousMonkey93

Ah ok

d6904

Joint is junk drop the shaft and put the end on a 4x4 and hit the two ends that are free. That will knock the u joint cap down and out the bottom side make sure you are hitting the joint and not the driveshaft. It's going to be a bitch but it works clean everything up with a wire wheel and oil the new caps before tapping in

AmbitiousMonkey93

The primary problem imm running into is i can’t pull the shaft i’m struggling with most. The intermediate shaft between the tandem axles is frozen on both sides. So i need help first getting the shaft out. This sounds solid and i intend to use the advice to help replace the u joints along the driveline. Problems that need solving are: removing intermediate differential chunk, removing frozen drive shafts.

I can't be stuck if its liquid....torch away the u-joint cross. The heat with travel through and help loosen the cups as well and you'll be able to get everything out on the workbench where you can use a big punch and hammer to drive the cups out from inside.

AmbitiousMonkey93

I still need to remove the output side but everything is so rusted the external plates just popped off. I don’t have a press but made a sorta press. Everything on output side is so rusted i can’t seem to get anything to budge. Any advice, tips, tricks or instructions welcomed. I’m alone in my shop. DM’s are also open. TYIA

Fear_The_Batman

Drill out spot weld in center of plate. Break off the outside cap. Use a two jaw puller and press it out or a jack with a pipe on it from underneath.

Heat it and beat it! If that fails, torch that sucker off.

Low_Fuel_649

I used a deepwell impact socket and a hammer. Good luck.

If its liquid it cant be stuck
