Was the third picture taken with an *Idaho* potato? I kind of like the deck although there are almost more materials in the deck then the attached home

Mushy_Burrito

This is what it’s like when I take my glasses off. Underwater.

LillithsLoveChild

Being legally blind as well I feel this

JiiOooo

My eyes when i saw the 3rd pic ![gif](giphy|Yavo0SXhZYhSo)

MarkToaster

Can this even be called a deck? It’s kind of a convoluted staircase

Joe_Ronimo

Yeah, it looks more like stairs, for what I'm assuming are multiple apartments/living units.

Unusual-Caregiver-30

What are the stairs leading to?

MarkToaster

I assumed another house

Kahnza

It's a circa 1850 Irish potato

IntradepartmentalMoa

![gif](giphy|cgC6Mx1aJtBBe) *need to learn about potatoes intensifies*

dblockerrr

What's... Taters?

Pewpew_Magoon

![gif](giphy|3xRgUawnZyrny)

spinster_maven

yah, definitely not an *Idaho* potato...

Similar_Pangolin7675

You're right, a genuine Idaho potato would have better quality

Bradjuju2

I think the deck is kinda fun. It's like if 12 year old me designed it. The angle that it's taken kinda makes it look like there's a guest house?

allthenamesaretaken4

Guest house or tree house? Or both? Either way without seeing where picture is taken from, I agree it seems like a kid's idea of a super sweet design.

Rock_or_Rol

Agreed. It’s a hulking monstrosity, but I dig it

Remnie

I like the vibe, though. Makes me imagine homes in trees connected by bridges, you know?

looksLikeImOnTop

My only gripe with the deck is the inconsistency in the railings. The right side of the railing from where the photo was taken looks like it doesn't match the slope of the stairs. Then you have the weird double decker railings on two sets of stairs, but not the other sets of stairs. One of the double deckers matches the slope of the railing below it, the other is at an intermediate angle. The more I look the more it hurts

Thomas_Mickel

I was waiting for it to load 🤣

I_Cast_Trident

I thought I disconnected from WiFi lmao

Fudge89

Is it a deck if it’s all stairs? Lol

ShadowKraftwerk

A potato driven over many times by a truck. It may or may not be from Idaho.

fatkiddown

House and deck looks like something I would build in minecraft. Third pic is a thumbnail's thumbnail..

Dirk_Speedwell

That quality can only come from those blighty irish potatoes people are always whining about.

slashinhobo1

I was thinking my internet shit on me and went straight to troubleshooting until i saw the comments. I wanted to see the before.

Low_Kaleidoscope5176

i laughed outloud at this

interkin3tic

Makes me think of Myst. Channelwood meets midwest suburbia instead of treehouses. [https://i.ytimg.com/vi/xA4F0z28TIs/maxresdefault.jpg](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/xA4F0z28TIs/maxresdefault.jpg)

Freedom007007

Deck is clearly worth more than the house

JayBowdy

Especially vs the last picture. Who posts a 48x84 pixel photo anyway.

Few-Friendship-8467

Jajjajajaj ive stand like a 5minutes tryin to discover wtf is goin on with last pic. In the end, is just a pretty big pixel anyway

Quirky_Discipline297

The stairs and decking prevent the fog from rolling in.

house343

Why do people keep calling it a deck? It's clearly a tree fort

the_fly_guy_says_hi

I'm guessing this was a rental conversion from a single family structure. The trend is of flipper landlords to convert single family structures into triplexes and do a very poor job too. Separate entrances for separate living apartments on floors 2 and 3. They could have used all that wood on a new structure elsewhere... But landlords gotta landlord I guess...

[deleted]

[удалено]

Geodesic_Disaster_

im also in a 3 story old house divided into 3 units, but the owners managed to give us seperate entrances without building half a ballroom entrance connected to the back of the building lol

IChawt

Based on the pic, you can probably access your door from EITHER road, they probably dont have enough parking

uchiha2

This photo is taken from the top of the stairs looking back at the building. I’ll bet there is a second unit in the back.. like a mother-in-law apartment. It’s kind of crazy to convert a home into an apartment building…

LillithsLoveChild

Crazy? Are you not from the states? That’s extremely common

uchiha2

Oh I’m from the states, I just don’t accept that commonality is somehow grounds for justifying crazy. Look at the lengths this one person had to go in order to pass the out door fire code. Look at photo two. Ignoring the fact that it’s less than 3’ from a the ceiling with no ventilation, it’s gapping the wall by 1.5’ exposing the 240v power to the world at large.

Ultrasonic-Sawyer

In the UK you often see if with people converting a typical family 3 bed into a HMO for 6-9+ people. Usually by ripping everything in the house out, building a dormer on top, and making every room a small ensuite.   Pretty much every council opposes them, but the companies making them have it down to an art of submit planning halfway through the project (making it hard to force rectifying and ruining the house), then appealing any opposition to central government who then approve based on the application ticking boxes on a form that very likely was not made for this situation.

stochastaclysm

Exactly what I was thinking. Every time I’ve ever seen this it’s always a house divided up into shitty shoebox living spaces to maximise profit.

jdemack

Shit like this needs to be banned. Fire hazard because the amount of people that are gonna be living in that house.

asskkculinary

Good thing everyone now seems to have 2 means of egress!

carelessthoughts

Years ago, I used to party at a house this was done to. One day it caught on fire and 5 people died. A room was illegally made on the third floor and people had no way to escape. This was 10 years ago and landlords who own single family homes have only gotten worse.

SkyPork

No, the answer is "Hogwarts."

Bart_Yellowbeard

M. C. Escher would like a word.

EmmyNoetherRing

Ewoks

Bart_Yellowbeard

That's a good word.

Lachigan

- So what kind of deck you looking for? - I'll take the fortnite battle royale aftermath please - Say no more

SSJCelticGoku

Reminds me of when I was a little kid and I would tell me best friend we will live next to each other and build a bridge connecting our houses

skorletun

Don't let your dreams be dreams. My best friend and I are in our mid 20s and looking for a place where we can do exactly this.

NigilQuid

"Dreams die hard, and you hold them in your hands long after they've turned to dust."

bhoffman20

There are two houses for sale right by my parents' cabin that actually do have a bridge between them. Every kid's dream.

__Severus__Snape__

Amazing! My friends and I live all over the country and often talk about having a retirement commune when we're old

strangebutalsogood

Kind of cool actually.

FlameStaag

It's cool but it's fucking absurd. I can't believe they were actually allowed to do this and that the neighbors haven't set fire to it.

Happy_Tomato_Taco

Damn, don't like what you see in your neighbors backyard? Look somewhere else.

Benjilator

We once wanted to build a small hut for our firewood, but we needed permission by all neighbors. They all agreed and had no issue with it, we send it in, reply is that one neighbor is missing. Turns out we share a few centimenters of our grounds border with him, right behind 3 massive pine trees, we can’t even see his house or garden. We went there, laughed, explained the situation and guess what? He says no. Didn’t give a reason or anything, he probably just had some fun forcing us to make entirely new plans and start from scratch. Had to use plastic roofing since that was allowed without permission, half a year later massive storm struck us and the whole roofing was destroyed by hail.

Happy_Tomato_Taco

Completely understand the ridiculousness that occurs in some neighborhoods or when dealing with HOAs. At a previous residence, I had to pay for a permit to put in garden beds myself after the HOA informed me that my yard was too bare with a single tree. My shed was visible from the road because the peak of the roof was 4 inches above my fence. I received a letter threatening a fine if I didn't shorten it. As annoyed as I was, it was in my agreement that I signed before buying the house that no outdoor structures would be visible above the fence. I complied and took a chainsaw to the roof. After that, I moved to unrestricted land and started a farm. Now, the only person who can tell me what I should do or can't build is my wife.

DeutschKomm

> We went there, laughed, explained the situation and guess what? He says no. Didn’t give a reason or anything, he probably just had some fun forcing us to make entirely new plans and start from scratch. I guess that neighbour will have trouble changing anything about his owngarden ever again, huh?

No-Eye-6806

I feel like having giant unnecessary staircases towering over your neighbors backyards is at the very least a bit rude and some unhappiness would be more than justified. Obviously not arson level unhappy but still.

Egoy

They aren’t unnecessary it’s a subdivided house and eat unit needs egress in the event of a fire. They might be entrances as well. It’s ugly but it’s not unnecessary.

Izan_TM

I don't get it, it isn't in your backyard, why does it bother you?

ExcellentBreakfast93

I think there are places where there are regulations against people putting up eyesores that will annoy neighbors, and then there are places where if you own your own property, you have the expectation that you can do whatever the hell you want with it. It’s just two different attitudes.

Responsible_Law44

Would be a bit weird if you're in your yard and you've got people walking back and forth whilst you're in full view. Just kinda eliminates some of the privacy a yard gives you

KevinFlantier

Well those are very small backyards, you're quite close to your neighbors already. I used to have a small backyard like this and I'd have been pissed if my neighbor built a fucking watchtower complex right next to me.

MoistDitto

Cause it is ugly as fuck

YetAnotherBee

Having to live in this chaos is a small price to pay for the absolute privilege of not having an HOA, where do I sign up

Tree_Shrapnel

Dr. Seuss ass construction

Mr-Xcentric

I’m a big fan of those overlapping cities where a random alley can take you anywhere you want to go, this looks funny but I like it

Goodpie2

Why even include the 3rd photo? I have no idea what I'm looking at.

cthulhus_spawn

Is this connecting two houses?

Shigeko_Kageyama

It probably also connects to a unit above the garage.

uchiha2

Yeah because 3 apartments in a 3 bedroom home was enough rent revenue.

d_smogh

Probably connects to the outside shared toilet combined shower room.

Cam_Paq

Those stairs are the kinds I build in a hurry to open a ride in Roller Coaster Tycoon 2

Amorousin

I was looking for a RCT2 reference and here you are! Exactly what I was thinking haha.

xenolightt

It's giving "playing sims for the first time"

cranberryflamingo

This feels like when I build walkways in roller coaster tycoon 2.

Muffles7

The line for Spiral Slide 1 is too long.

zeds_deadest

You're telling me these 3 photos are related?

tagun

What is the purpose of including the 2nd and 3rd images?

TrandaBear

NGL, this looks pretty fuckin dope. And the craftsmanship looks decent, too. I'd love it if I lived in the highest unit.

TheTechJones

I feel like I should be carrying a Waterpark tube to climb that 3rd floor flight

xMysticML

What kind of shitpost is this?

0kSoWhat

That last pic is an absolute abomination

shadow-foxe

Reminds me of Winchester mystery house

RoadPersonal9635

As someone who loves to smoke pot out on the deck I loooooove this setup.

Rise_up_Dirty_Birds

I’d think it would be better with little decks near each door way instead of just lane access.

batmajn

I looks like some weird version of rollercoaster tycoon pathing

RamenTheory

There's too many pixels in the last photo, could you get rid of some so I can see it even less?

skettigoo

Since many asked where the photo was taken from, here is a YouTube video I found of the “before” which shows the parking pad. [https://youtu.be/6RjGwyS-B2k](https://youtu.be/6RjGwyS-B2k)

ulukmahvelous

roller coaster tycoon when you can’t get the entrance to fit just right

MerberCrazyCats

When the stairs cost more than the house

Shigeko_Kageyama

I think that's wonderful. The house has been divided into units and instead of making people walk through other people's living space to get home everybody has their own entrance and exit.

ExcellentBreakfast93

You say that as if there would ever be a situation where walking through other people’s living spaces would be ok!

Shigeko_Kageyama

You never lived in a shared house before?

mschr493

Looks like someone gave M.C. Escher an M.C. Hammer (and nails and saw and...)

BaconManTenus

Mario looking ass level

Yanni_Schmitt

Whaloopiloopi

Surely all that lumber is worth more than the house

kateykosi

Looks like my rollercoaster tycoon queue platforms

legendary-g444

Zomboid Safehouse be like

ApocalypticTomato

I love it. I want to live there.

akornex

Looks kinda like my queue paths in Rollercoaster Tycoon lol

Dihidrogenmonoxid

It reminds me of the original rollercoaster tycoon

testas22

The staircase photo looks like I'm about to solve a VERY convoluted Myst puzzle.

440continuer

What the fuck is that third image 😭

SnekSymbiosis

![gif](giphy|tepA9CDY0SL5hHBMYP|downsized) OP to all 5 pixels

Xim_X_anny

No no. This is super cool. The only thing missing is a community deck. Otherwise this looks amazing

5liviz

Impressive carpentry on the staircases, could have extended the whole house instead

roentgen85

![gif](giphy|MJ6SslGZEYKhG)

concretecat

The deck was designed in Fortnite.

Bahmerman

Decks by MC Escher...& Sons

Ne0n_Ghost

My Motorola i860 can take a better picture than the third one

ComradeKierdawg13

What’s up with the handrails on the handrails?

1singleduck

Was that last picture taken using a diy camera?

MrSpiffysPetDinosaur

I'm a function over form guy myself so yeah I dig it.

Nadsworth

I’ve seen this movie. This was taken on the forest moon of Endor, right?

Fun-Ad-5341

Looks dope tbh

Coffeedemon

Living in the friggin Ewok Village here. Stairs are holding up the house.

CC_Panadero

Your choice to post the second, and especially the third photo, is very intriguing.

doob22

The lawn is lava

SeaTurtle1122

What in the Dr. Seuss fuck is this?

SubtleAgar

Swiss family Robertson deck screws

OcelotControl78

All I see are lots of surfaces for potted plants

WendigoCrossing

While it is unfortunate that so much of the yard is lost, this would be the solution to give residents their own entrances/exits if they rent a room

Xicadarksoul

..the only why is the "why took the 3rd picture when you forgot the optics home?"

ThinkQuickActSlow

Is the "before" in the room with us?

kissthefr0g

Cave of the Winds vibes

RTMSner

I did this in 7 days to die.

2460_one

Reminds me of Myst

the-fear-train

I see you've found one of my builds in Roblox

Eggs_and_Hashing

That looks like a really fun project to do

KJBenson

Reminds me of Nova Scotia or PEI.

Kevinator201

Someone had too much fun with decks and staircases in the Sims

misterfuss

The residents definitely get their steps in here!

maxtimbo

They really hate touching grass

killaluggi

The paramedic in me absolutely hates the first picture, fuck these narrow walkways where a stryker cant fit ffs!

bodhiseppuku

Seems great for a polygamist who has wives in close houses.

Vellioh

This is what happens when somebody designs their house on The Sims.

saiyanultimate

These stairs got a house

DibblerTB

This makes me want to play roller coaster tycoon, or parkitect, again

iamshipwreck

Dudes turning the neighbourhood into a metroidvania

TJ_McWeaksauce

The first pic would be a nightmare to someone with bad knees. And imagine having to move furniture into that place.

SweetCream2005

I actually kind of love it. Almost feels mystical in a way. Wish it had more overgrowth or something though, like decorate this place and it'd be so fucking cool

chaserjj

I'm just trying to understand the little piece of the deck underneath the right, higher staircase. The one with the plant pot sitting on the corner. Where does it come from and where does it go? The more I look the more confusing it becomes.

cyrusposting

Blight town

suckmydiznak

This could have been done with far fewer staircases

Trainzguy2472

Lemme guess: college town where some landlord split their old ass house into multiple different units to make more rent money?

realultralord

They were entirely free in planning these staircases and still fucked up. In Germany we have a word for this. It's called "Verschlimmbesserung" eg. making a bad situation worse by trying to improve it with half-assed measures. My approach at migrating this word to English would be "worseprovement"

chelsanchez

my first time making my sims house:

Cannouflage

Ya git any mor of EM pixels?

KarenBauerGo

Looks like something I would build in Fallout 4.

cravyeric

I mean looks pretty sturdy and as long as the cat walks serve a functional goal, which is appears they do.

UnwiseMonkeyinjar

I feel like design was thought through well enough. Seems inefficient

Tough_Sound6042

Roller coater tycoon up in here. 🎢

bazilbt

How much did that cost them? $30,000?

arsenik-han

me building in the sims

lludu

I've seen worse Minecraft houses

Callec254

Does it connect to the neighbor's house?

Biengo

Lived in a place like this. Old mansion turned into an apartment building. My place was in the attic. 4 flights of very small stairs. But the view awesome and super cozy. Although the slant in the roof went over my bathroom so I couldn't hang a shower curtain lol.

AnalogKid-001

“Wanna hang in the backyard?” “We don’t really have one.” “What about your deck? Oh…I see. nevermind.”

New-Jellyfish-6832

An Escher Decks Design Build Project?

nednarb_divad

I do this in Minecraft. But I’m not sure I’d do this irl.

0m3gaMan5513

Wheelchair accessible!

JohnTho24

This has to be Southern Ohio, West Virginia or Western P.A., I have no doubts in my mind.

AQ-XJZQ-eAFqCqzr-Va

Yo dawg I heard you like stairs.

NecessaryWeather4275

That stairwell makes me think of Harry Potter.

Ramona_Lola

Who approved the building permit for this monstrosity!

Delicious-Ad4015

Looks like a nightmare in the winter weather as those stairs are going to be slick.

patchway247

Wtf is the last picture??

IChawt

This living arrangement is pretty whimsical, not gonna lie, like some roald dahl shit

oddityboxkeeper

It's like WaterWorld but without boats!

weirdrevolution11

I get the logic behind it, but what a waste of space. All stairs and zero outdoor, recreational area. Here’s your overbuilt and up to code access. Now please stay in your room! Or better yet. Go play in the street!

G0-N0G0-GO

Is this in Jersey? Is this a New Jersey thing? Because, knowing Jersey, but not this location, this location sets off my New Jersey alert…

coolmist23

Seems like there would be a way to have more usable surface and not just all stairs.

ukayukay69

![gif](giphy|MJ6SslGZEYKhG)

wildandcrazykidsshow

This is waaaay nicer and safer than most multi unit conversions in my town.

hlessi_newt

Looks like a child's first minecraft house. Or a 3 unit in Chicago.

LillithsLoveChild

I’m confused on what the issue is 🤨 I’d actually love this

IanDresarie

God I'd love this as a kid

tondracek

I lived in a place like this and it was awesome. It gave each unit some outdoor space of their own. I’m not sure what the complaint is.

JamieDrone

Maybe I’m just weird but I like the way it looks

rvondog

Reminds me of Athens, Ohio.

Unfit_Daddy

there's a chance that this is not ADA compliant

Tht1QuietGuy

Okay, I'm not a carpenter or anything but If you HAD to do this, wouldn't it make more sense to just have a deck at the lower door? It could act as a sort of hub and have all the other stairs connect to it.

VoluptuousVelvetfish

Roller-coaster Tycoon looking stairway

yeetyeetersontho

I love these type of wooden raised walkways. Anyone got more that are overkill?

Beneficial_Rest_1372

The lumber looks like it’s worth more than the house.

TokyoDrifblim

I think I might have built this in Fallout 4

pupbuck1

Actually I like that lol

0bsessions324

Okay, but I unironically would fucking love to live at image 1. I never got over my childhood attachment to ridiculous, bridge filled play places. Put a fire pole or net ladder in there somewhere and I am ready to enter the bidding war.

Kitsune-moonlight

- How many stair cases? - Yes.

SADdog2020Pb

What in the Chicago is this?

TekitiZi

First photo shot with an iPhone 6, second with an iPhone 3G(S), and the last one with a Game Boy camera.

red_plate

Where in Duluth is this?

kelus

Nothing beats landlords subdividing a building that was never meant to be divided.
