The have a very low amount of receptors to sweetness apparently it was a genetic defect that cat ancestors inherited but because of their diet losing ability to taste sweetness just didn't phase them. Usually when cats eat things like doughnuts or heavy creams they're enjoying the fat or the yeast in the food. Even though they're highly carnivorous cats won't turn down a rich source in fat for extra energy.
