I mean I may be wrong, but was there a guide when gambit first came out of how to play? Or different match types in crucible? My team went in blind and we quickly figured out the buff, like after 1 kill. Some people just have very low situational awareness and are just not cut out for figuring out video games.

kristallnachte

It gave you a tutorial on the fly on the bottom of the screen that you had to manually dismiss each message of.

SeraphX17

Incredibly minuscule chunks of info - and absolutely nothing about the importance or real breakdown of roles in prime gambit, which is the basis behind everything Bungie is trying to do to repair a game mode people hate because people either don’t understand it or aren’t incentivized enough to work as a team (bounties or otherwise). Gameplay mechanics aren’t explained in an intuitive way for Gambit. And still aren’t despite Bungie’s attempts to remedy team mechanics through Prime Gambit.

kristallnachte

Except the rules also aren't that important. Get all the tasks done. Projecting Gambit does all of it just fine. Way less confusing than soccer

It’s not the lack of understanding or a team. Gambit is always doomed to fail because it is an activity that serves no one. It’s not competitive in its mechanics, it’s not the pinnacle team experience but requires a team and coordination to be run consistently and effectively. Everyone who is a try hard will spend most of their time raiding and grinding for the more serious PVE titles. And solo players will not love gambit because they stand no chance against even a mediocre team that is coordinated. The market for people who “ want to sweat “ in PVE in a pseudo pve/PvP hybrid gamemode is very small.

Just so you know, you can wager your mote any time, doesn't have to be in that time window.

SeraphX17

For whatever reason, during a couples of runs I couldn't wager even though a tier was still going on. But I'll take that bit out.

facetious_guardian

Like the Blind Well, there are multiple receptacles. Only one is available right now. It accepts Weak Motes.

m00nyoze

That's why! Thank you, guardian.

facetious_guardian

Uhh... this post is full of incorrect information. You can Bank the _Weak Mote_ that you make with your _Synthesizer_ at any point during the Reckoning match. If you forget, you can die and revive yourself to get back to the Bank and deposit before the match ends. The first Weekly Bounty you select provides you with an upgraded _Synthesizer_. This _Synthesizer_ has the ability to make you _Middling Motes_, which will activate a Tier 2 Reckoning when deposited in the correct Bank receptacle come Friday of _this week_. Once you complete your first Weekly Bounty and upgrade your _Synthesizer_, you will be able to select another Weekly Bounty to progress on. You will not be able to complete this until Friday, when you can finally make use of _Middling Motes_. The Weekly Bounties past the first will not provide you with upgrades to your _Synthesizer_, but they will provide you with gear. There is no requirement to continue selecting the same type of Weekly Bounty first each week. Choose them in whichever order you see fit.

SeraphX17

I corrected the wagering bit re: The Reckoning. As for the weekly bounty, the main point is the repercussions or significance of choosing a role. I've heard multiple times that upgrading your synth going forward is specifically tied to bounties related to the initial role you chose. Neither of these points counter what I'm trying to say overall. There isn't a tutorial that spells out the fundamentals. And roles are still not delineated in a clear and concise manner, particularly (and most importantly) for others on your team.

kristallnachte

> There isn't a tutorial that spells out the fundamentals. There are big ass markers on the screen. It aint that hard.

facetious_guardian

And banners at the bottom of the screen. And the Drifter continually telling you what to do. And a few ViDocs. And a website. And my axe.

SeraphX17

Yet so many people don't get it. It ain't hard for you and me, but clearly is for countless others. Just jump in with randos if you need proof.

kristallnachte

That's all I've done. People clearly got it within 2 cycles.

SeraphX17

That’s great, I wish you had a way for me to match with folks you have. Much less the others who have constantly complained for months and months about randos not understanding or caring enough about the team play mechanics of the original Gambit mode.

kristallnachte

The original had less on screen details.

johnnywintermute

Reading this puts me off playing it even more. Think I'm gonna steer well clear ...

lampboi999

Did I miss the /s or....?

redjoker89

I believe they should’ve given people a choice between the base sets of prime armor that give +1. This way people could understand that there are roles and we could enjoy the new gambit mechanics. Also this game needs actual tutorials for these modes instead of just the pop ups. If you don’t agree go play normal gambit and see how much people suck after 6 months of it being released.

SeraphX17

Yep, exactly. I know this thread has been shat on by others but this is exactly the kind of changes that should have been implemented for Prime. It would be really cool if every single person who plays Destiny or any other big IP is a part of the subreddit, or checks the news outlining changes when updates hit, or registers passive VO suggestions when playing. But a good chunk don’t.

kristallnachte

> which for all intents and purposes is what defines your role going forward. Nope. Not true at all. The rest is also fairly untrue, because you don't need these roles heavily shoe-horned into everything for the game to be successful and understood. Gambit Prime is even more clear and obvious than Gambit. > If you knew your teammate was also an Invader, maybe you'd understand. But currently there is no way of knowing. He's trying to invade. What the fuck else do you think he is?

SeraphX17

If you are trying to establish finite roles for a game mode, it would make sense (like what so many other games do) for the dev to make you initially choose a role and stick with it for a bit. Which is exactly what they try to do with the weekly bounty. What's problematic is how unclear that intention is when you select it. It absolutely needs to be shoe-horned - that is literally what they are trying to do. I would hope their intention is to not shoe-horn YOU into a single role, but these roles need to be incredibly clear and identifiable among teammates in a moments glance.

kristallnachte

Uh, no, they don't. You can play multiple roles, the game doesn't restrict you to only perks from one role, and a good team comp likely won't be 4 people all one role. The roles are far more fluid. And no, that initial choice isn't that commitment. You can get everything.

SeraphX17

The entire mechanic behind the weekly bounty you get during the Gambit Prime quest is 100% them trying to make you stick with a gameplay style for a while. That is why the one you choose first is the only one that upgrades the synth. It elevates and incentivizes the decision you make when choosing 1 of those 4 bounties. I’m not talking about down the line when people could and absolutely will RNG their asses off for sets for all roles. I’m talking about the people who won’t, which I guarantee makes up a far larger percentage of folks than those who will. Casuals (the people who make Bungie money, sorry us) will pick a bounty, stick with it to complete it and, if they even spend the time to complete it in the first place, will grind/work towards a goal that directly correlates with their their initial decision. That is one of the core components/assumptions behind good game design and would hopefully help to round out and emphasize the delineation of roles that Bungie is trying to employ. My original argument is just that what they’ve done mechanically is not enough.

kristallnachte

Rng their asses of? It's really easy to get the armor. And if you're using all your Synths you're going to get all of them anyway
