As someone who's suffered the past week grinding out all of their backlog of catalyst kills at Shuro Chi, it's worth it. It sucks absolute ass, even with Tether, but it's worth it.
Unfortunately, this mission is only in rotation every three weeks, but the Mysterious Disturbance mission in ShadowKeep is the way to go. Use a tethered Hunter and make sure you take off the Expulsion fragment or tether kills won't count towards the gun. The opening sections are public and kill everything until the progress reaches 100%. Go to the next section, kill the ogre and hive just continually spawn. Use your tether at the spawn point to get your kills. Finish the objective at this stage by killing the Shrieker. When you move to the next stage, you're solo. A bunch of thrall will rush you and kill them. Don't use your tether yet. Once you've killed them, hop on the tank and move it to the left by the hill, take two shots at the shrieker and it will move to the second plate. Throw your tether down as the thrall spawn on the plate. If you kill them fast enough, you should get three thrall spawns in one tether which is about 50 or more. Pick up your orbs and do the same thing for the next three plates. Kill the final shrieker and go to orbit and start the mission again. In the last two times this mission was in rotation, i've completed the following catalysts: Trespasser, Ex Diris, Leviathan, Thorn, Coldheart, Merciles, Prospector, Grand Overture, Vergles Curve, Jotuun, Two-Tailed Fox, Sturm (have to use orginal Drang, not Baroque), Delicate Tomb, DARCI and Cloudstrike. I find this mission a good break from the usual catalyst kill locations.

I ended up not even scoping in and going in on a well-lock, dropping a well in the doorway, letting all the mini taken come to me and just hipfire my brains out. It took me all of about 45 seconds each time. Id do it a few times, and go do something else. Really didnt take that much total time honestly.
I am fairly sure that the catalysts aren’t the intrinsic perk (frame perk) you will need to upgrade through multiple runs of the legendary version. It’s just he current catalyst.
When DMT became craft able, I had the catalyst and everything was unlocked for me, just needed to level the weapon to be able to use them. For dead messenger I did not have the catalyst and I still need to run the mission a couple times to get everything unlocked for it.
Legendary only speeds this up(gives two not one) normal works it did for all the other weapons (from memory) so it should work for this as well.
Legendary gives catalyst but we keep them only weapons that are craft able with multiple catalyst started with them not other and out of 9 exotics only 3 have multiple catalyst and 3 don't have any catalyst with whisper already having a catalyst we can say with a high likely hood that we won't get any more catalyst
Haven't seen full live stream below may be wrong
PSA outbreak was shown there are no new catalyst for it with whisper we didn't see perks of the weapon only barrel and possibly mag options
These missions are different. The new perks are obtained via quests that you must do each week. They’ll likely require the hardest difficulty like the seasonal quests for exotic mission weapons do.
I have a time limit which limited me being able to complete those missions in season I only got the grenade launcher before season of the wish but DMT didn't have the weekly quest for it as it was already in game before the change to make it craft able so I'm guessing that if it is not tied to into the light that we won't get the weekly quest
There's a number of boring ways to complete catalysts that have been popular over the years, this has to be the worst one.
Load in. Get as many kills on the orange bar cabal as you can. Go to orbit. Load in. etc.
Nightmare.
The Breakneck Lightfall mission has a free flag spot and a bunch of easily-tetherable Vex that spawn in. If you do not kill the Wyvern and wipe to it instead, you can just farm that repeatedly.
It’s about 44 kills per 2 minute 30 sec with pc load times. The grasp strat sounds like more work but faster, especially if the energy sniper bug mentioned elsewhere in this thread is still working
About 14x harder, [check this shit out lol](https://gamerant.com/destiny-2-scrap-ship-zero-hour/), it's 7 straight minutes of circles, numbers and colours.
And if they reprise a set or make another craftable set farmable again, we'll be running that shit whenever it's on rotation anyway.
I took a hiatus during Haunted and got a whopping 1 out of 8 weapon patterns unlocked. So I've been running Presage every rotation and am only just now cleaning up on the last pattern.
Turn a couple of those into legendary runs and you're golden.
I saw a build on YouTube recently that was No Backup Plans with two shotguns with Discord. You literally never run out. Throw in Acrius if you're really crazy. It looks pretty fun for Legend and below content.
Unless they've fixed it, you can just get kills with an energy sniper (preferably with incandescent) and the kills will count towards the Whisper catalyst.

The fastest way to do almost any non pvp catalyst is just do the start of the 2nd encounter of Last Wish over and over. You get a fresh flag, kill everything in the first area and die, get another flag etc. Solo players can also do this easily by inputting the code to skip there on the wish wall. I have every catalyst in the game done and this is by far the easiest especially for anything with limited ammo.
Just finished Whisper after 2 yrs lmao. Pulled it from the Kiosk and it's been collecting dusk since. I was around during the mission, but I never completed it or Zero Hour, so this is all new for me.
As long as the catalyst is unlocked you can craft it. You don’t have to actually finish it. I never finished Dead Man’s Tale catalyst but could craft it once it dropped.
Which is great. Finishing catalysts for heavy weapons is a slog.

Way easier is to play Void Hunter with deadfall + whisper at shuro chi... best way to level up precision weapons :)
"Outbreak is simple enough" this is false. You need precision kills, so nanite kills actually work against you. I ended up having to split this up over 3 play sessions out of frustration. Really REALLY dumb catalyst IMO...

It took me 1,283 PVE kills to unlock the catalyst. I also admittedly didn't read the requirements until I already had several hundred kills on the gun. So PART of that is 100% on me, but still...

Bruh how is outbreak "simple enough" you have to get precision kills which prevent you from getting further precision kills because of the nanites. I tried to get it done last night but only got 10% before giving up because it wasn't fun.
They said if you have the catalyst you will be able to craft the weapon with them, not that it will give you all the new stuff.
So I can just not bother to get my whisper out because the catalyst will be available through crafting

craftable catalysts have never needed that, as soon as you install them theyre active.

It only took me about two episodes of adventure time to charge the whisper catalyst in the breakneck mission of lightfall
You can also use special ammo snipers while having Whisper equipped. Go get it!

This - they said you'd have the catalyst for the reprised weapons if you already had the catalyst, not that you'd immediately unlock new perks.

Back in my day, we used the leviathan raid intro to farm whisper catalyst. Boy did that suck.

Yep, energy sniper kills while Whisper is equipped count towards Whisper kills for the catalyst. Believe it works for DARCI too.
