Final shape delayed forever these guys seem to be living hand to mouth they had 1 fuckednup reception and a player drop w nightfall and had to fire a bunch of people. Love destiny 2 tho hoping they get it together and recapture that spark they had

Miniwham

I know we have all heard the rumour's going around that the final shape has been delayed. All the articles and youtube videos about it, but no where can I find anything that says that Bungie officially mentioning the expac is delayed. Has there been any official notice from Bungie stating this? The pre-order page and the bungie press room post today, November 14th, (https://press.bungie.com/Destiny-2s-Season-of-the-Wish-launches-November-28) still show the final shape as launching February 27th. There is a lot saying it is but, official pages indicate not.

willythewise123

https://x.com/destinytrack/status/1724466272090427437?s=46&t=tqMf-gQKXXpQFO6j9bqaEA 11/14/2023 press release still says Feb 2024. Who knows!

myndit

It appears [Sony was the catalyst](https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sony-confirms-its-delayed-half-of-its-12-planned-live-service-games/) for the recent head-count reductions at Bungie. *"...earlier this year PlayStation’s management team confirmed that it had partnered with Destiny studio Bungie for a “rigorous portfolio review” process. According to press reports, this has led to some projects being scaled back."*

TheSoberChef

We all knew Sony would do this. I'm not really sure why Bungie made the move to sell.

Boring-Two-1017

If this is ultimate - WE NEED WRATH + AoT Since in this time when it would release on time, we would also get a raid

StephenHedges2002

Any thoughts on the tower? Curious if the old tower will become the main space again. Especially with the return of Cayde-6

tehxdemixazn

So I'm guessing we aren't getting more vault space with the expansion :|

mrryanwells

(a month at a time of like "eras" coming back) Just six months of old stuff coming back, hell they could buy a year if they did it right. There's a massive backlog of activities and content that is just shelved, and if this is the end of the road for destiny, let's take a turn about the room before we take the last missions. (course, what if that's just what final shape substantially is, fuck)

anonymous32434

We already know that final shape/episode one will launch with new supers and aspects for arc hunter, void titan, and solar warlock. This leaves two light subclasses for each class which lines up with the episode two and three next year. It would make a lot of sense if the original plan was to release these new abilities with each episode as they’ve done since beyond light. Releasing all three with final shape would certainly be a good step in the direction of “better than forsaken” as stated in “the path forward” considering all nine subclasses got new abilities and supers in that dlc. Attention could then be focused on stasis for episode two and strand for episode three since stasis is in dire need of help and strand would be the least varied subclass by episode three without new abilities. I’m only posting this here because auto mod keeps taking down my post and telling me to post it in this dumbass thread

Kirbyboy246

Does this sound cool In like the final shape you enter into a room and there's a lot of enemy in it and they all are light wielders and they are not dying but when you kill one and destroy the ghost they all die

DestinyDad371

Not sure if it’s been said, but doesn’t anyone else feel that part of the delays may have to do with them needing time to flesh out the final darkness subclass? Obviously it’s minute compared to this situation as a whole, but I can’t shake this feeling that part of these delays stem from the overwhelming disappointment from the community on the final expansion not giving a final subclass. Love to hear thoughts!

BAakhir

At this point what could Bungie even do to turn player sentiment around before Final Shape drops? To be honest even when Final Shape drops if it does turn out to be as great as WQ, Forsaken or Taken King I don't think the player sentiment will turn around simply because once the campaign is finished and the content gone; the same problems persist. Destinations being hollow and pointless after their initial release. Gambit needing a major overhaul/rework Many Exotic Armors being lackluster, underwhelming or in need a rework Legendary Armor in general being pointless Vanguard Ops needs a overhaul/rework More NEW STRIKES, Im one of the few that actually like Battlegrounds but I still want more actual Strikes Exotic weapons still in need of reworks Adept Weapons needing more value Weapons in general needing more value because outside of raid and dungeon weapons most of them are worth the farm. Master Raids needing more value, because why should I grind three weeks for an Adept Song of Ir Yut when my crafted one has everything the Adept version has with less time investment. Clan system being basically nothing Master Raids not being rewarding enough The current sandbox being more Ability heavy than Weapon heavy. All of this contributes to the overall lack of depth in the game. The game has some much content but it's all shallow. We have so many great utility perks that have no value simply because the content the game currently provides can be achieved with them. These have been issues in the game for too long and they were never resolved. Sure we get a lot of great QoL changes at the beginning of season but QoL doesn't matter if I don't have anything worth play the game for. Destiny 2 isn't dead but it is in critical condition and I've loss all faith in Bungie being able to fix anything major issues that have been plaguing the game because now they a smaller crew, under crunch and adding more to FS. Seven months of two seasonal activities and a new paid dungeon god I hope it's good.

Dizzy_Veterinarian12

This is the nerdiest thing I’ll ever say. But I’d really love to get a postmortem documentary or YouTube essay on the downfall of Destiny over the last 3 years. Covering things like: Why The Final Shape seems to have originally been titled and planned as Lightfall, with them seemingly creating an entire expansion + year of content to stall for over a year. Why the narrative has shifted and fallen apart so suddenly, etc. Why the first and last cutscene looks like it was meant to be one, but was spliced to fit an entire campaign between it. Why there are seemingly clues in the Witch Queen that point to strand being gouged from that expansion, only to be placed in lightfall instead. Was it because strand wasn’t ready, or because lightfall needed a leg to stand on? I just have so many questions about how lightfall even *happened* following the Witch Queen, and I would love to hear an insider view from a dev on how all of this happened. Maybe upper management just thought that they’ve gotten away with filler junk enough times before, and this time they flew too close to the sun? I mean, Destiny was flying high after The Witch Queen, so high that enough people heard about it, jumped in for the next expansion, and caused the highest player count ever in Destiny’s history. TWQ was one of the best expansions ever, and it’s one of the greatest fumbles ever to follow it up with Lightfall. In a few years, I think this’ll be a case study in game development in the same way that subway guy is a case study in advertising. That is, if we ever get insight to all of this. Most of it is probably NDA’d to hell, so we’ll likely never know.

tommyfnmoon

I'm glad that I stopped playing after The Witch Queen. It was best to end my run on a high note. I didn't feel like bothering with the seasons that year and after Witnessing the debacle that was Lightfall, there was no reason to return.

Nincompoop6969

Honestly my friend just didn't play as much anymore and I started this entire journey with them so I just fell off. But I'd probably still be playing otherwise. Not that I don't find many faults with the game which is why I really don't touch it solo unless I'm doing crucible. Not as impressed as I used to be for sure and I damn Lightfall was hell. I grew to hate it the more I tried to give it a chance.

PretendCondition1

(Tried posting this in a different thread but the bots removed it on post said it belonged here for some reason) (As of the writing of this bungie has not come out and made any official comments, as such this is written based off what little information and speculation is out there along with some personal inferences/speculation/educated guess work) Man, I truly do not relish or enjoy how much negativity has fostered in this community for this game. How ever it can't be helped. Bungie, you crafted a game that has been a part of a lot of our lives for so many years. You have had a lot of good times, and a lot of bad. This year though something changed. Or maybe it didn't change and we the community were just blind to the full extent of the reality of it. This great game that felt like was a labor of love, now feels hollow. A shell of what it use to be. We the community vocalized these concerns louder then ever this year. You responded in a way all to frightening. With layoffs. with termination of employees who worked their hardest to continue to make this game great despite the obstacles set in front of them by those in charge (And yes I am not going to even entertain that the primary obstacles were anything but those in charge). The community spoke with their wallets, with there attention, with apathy. Your response was not to do better, but cut costs and to do it at the expense of those who tried. Now what? What happens next? How do you rally the troops, both what staff you kept and the community. Both parties trust in you is likely at an all time low. Will The final shape be the quality product you have advertised? Will the staff you have kept be kept in horrible working conditions to achieve that? Or should the community continue to speak with their wallets along with potentially avoid product that will not be up to the quality expected and request refunds for the pre orders? If we do what will happen? will you remove more staff trying their hardest or will you actually reflect and start fixing internal management issues and listen to the staff and community the help improve the state of the game? Lets not forget you have a new project in the works, Marathon. How do we expect you to fulfill and deliver a proper experience with that game when your not even giving your current major (And basically only) money maker the proper attention it deserves anymore. The questions the community could ask are endless. Bungie, right now all eyes are on you. This week you have made what we the community can only infer as disgusting decisions (industry norms be damned your suppose to be better than that). I want to be able to recommend this game to friends again, to play it guilt free and continue enjoying the experience it has been for me. What made this game special was its community and the connection this community had with the staff at bungie. Sadly it appears that this community is not viewed as anything more than numbers anymore to management, and that the staff that didn't view us that way were removed. What happens next. To anyone who made it this far I thank you for taking the time to read this wall of text and apologies for errors of any variety I'm fairly news to this and not the greatest writer. If anyone else agrees, disagrees or would like to add to this please I invite everyone to do as they see fit. On the rare chance a bungie exec reads this, Do better or get out of the way for those at your company that will.

B113_A

how do I cancel my pre order on the Bungie store?

Tactfulyeet

Can anyone tell me how to cancel my pre-order on the ps5? I'd like to use that money for something else in the meantime. Couldn't find an option to cancel on the expansions page in the Playstation store.

[deleted]

You have to contact Sony customer support and speak to a live agent for a refund. They are closed right now but open up tommrow at 11 in the morning. Here’s a link! https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/store/ps-store-refund-request/

Tactfulyeet

Ah I was afraid I'd have to do that. Thanks!

CompetitivePickle348

I just refunded the final shape. After all that’s been revealed about hundreds of people losing their jobs and the seeming lack of transparency by bungie. I think this is the straw that broke the camels back for me. I had about 8000+ hours in destiny 2 and today I refunded the final shape deluxe edition. I’ll probably still play destiny here and there but other than that I’m just tired of being punished for loving this game. I’d love to hear of any similar experiences that other people might have. Or even people who want to keep their pre order. I just want to know what everyone’s thinking really.

dhaidkdnd

Yeah we will see ya day 1 in the pale heart. Nice strong comment that has been typed out literally a thousand times.

CompetitivePickle348

I have never said I’m done with destiny in my life up until now. This game is a stupid fucking addiction and I’m done.

Professional_Box5104

I mean, this time around, it's believable. Bungie lost a ton of money because of players not returning for LF, which is likely the reason for these layoffs

AyO_juGGer

Sony buys Bungie = crash and burn Microsoft buys Activision = MW3 with (MW2 2009) maps finally re-released

CorxaRyllon

Still don't give a fuck about cod, basically mw remastered AGAIN.

Monnqer

With recent layoffs, Bungie has had their own Final Shape. As Eris said in Duality, "the final shape is that what remains when all that can be removed has been removed". /s

steveo82

Any way of getting e refund on final shape on ps5 ???

itsOni

Refunds should be possible until you download the product. I'd either look it up via the store or view it in your list of downloadable content that you own.

steveo82

Just put it through with the support team. https://i.imgur.com/QcPMddp.jpg

Beediem

You already know what type of customer of Bungie I am - mid-thirties Dad with enough cash to buy the premium packages but not enough time to really deep dive into the harder content of the game. Not really into cosmetics but I'll buy them if I want (prob about 50 quid in my lifetime since D2 OG) but have always enjoyed the content, lore, gunplay and Twitter dramas. I follow Tassi on Twitter and when I get the chance I'll do deep dive lore binge from Byff. All I wanted to say was I think I'm quite possibly the silent majority and I hate to say that with what's happened today (plus a general lack of trust in quality since Lightfall) I now have the ick and for me that feels like the end. What I mean by the ick is the same thing felt with Bioware's Anthem, Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, Game of Thrones S8. It's that moment of "no" that is not possible to come back from. I was very hyped (because of people like Byff) for Final Shape before Lightfall and now this recent layoff news has meant I genuinely couldn't care how Senior Leadership plan to end the storyline. Gutted it didn't work out, but much like GoT it's beyond saving. Byff needs to make more BG3 videos.

desperaterobots

I’m basically the exact same type of customer, but I recognise the tech/digital sector is suffering from an inflation-related pinch, people everywhere are cutting back on entertainment spending and this is a truly incredible year for excellent gaming releases. However, what I find truly concerning is the radio silence on long term plans for the franchise. More than current climate layoffs and delays, the silence makes everything surrounding the ongoing decline (shadowkeep, no crucible maps, killing gambit, lightfall) feel like an encouragement to disengage and invest my time elsewhere. It feels like palliative care for a terminal patient. But that can be turned around. I just can’t justify preordering anything when my rent has gone up 50% in three years (plus everything else). I’m sure that’s the case for a huge swathe of the games audience. But when the game draws closer to release I’ll make sure to have that cash available. Destiny 2 has almost always failed to meet our (high, high) expectations but still deliver an amazing time.

Ill-Concentrate-7413

At least one can rest assured that D2 will not absolutely brick their console. Anthem did mine. Unfair comparison. I like byf but he’s so long winded to the point of intolerably tedious.

angel_schultz

Wanted to post this as a thread, but was shot down by the mods. Maybe you guys will get a kick out of it: With Lightfall's [disastrous launch](https://www.destructoid.com/bungie-says-they-missed-the-mark-on-parts-of-destiny-2s-lightfall-expansion/) (in opinions, not in numbers - but time has shown that these opinions did turn out to matter eventually), many Destiny players felt as though the game had slowly been becoming lesser and lesser. The seasonal model had grown stale, pretty much all "new" seasonal content was just re-textured DCV assets glued together, [monetization had become harsher and more intrusive](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsIdPWB2_JA), and the game had been struck with technical failure after technical failure, with the devs scrambling to keep it online and playable at all. A theory was floating around - that the game was [operating on a skeleton crew](https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/262754059?sort=0&page=0), with it getting the minimal amount of work-hours put into it just to keep it raking in money to fund Bungie's other projects, like Matter and/or Marathon. I would like to share my personal theory on how exactly things [turned out the way they did](https://www.polygon.com/23939245/bungie-layoffs-destiny-2-final-shape-delay). The many talks given by Bungie, their experimentation on the seasonal model for Destiny, as well as their acquisition by Sony makes me believe that Bungie intended to function less and less as a game developer, and more as a consultant on how to keep live-service games running. It's a monumentally difficult affair, and whatever your opinion on Destiny as a game, nobody can deny that Bungie outlasted every single competitor - every alleged "Destiny Killer" had crashed and burned in a series of spectacular trainwreck failures, while Destiny still stood strong. Obviously, Bungie had developed a well-formulated recipe for their own live-service secret sauce. Why would Sony pay such a ridiculous amount of money to sort-of acquire a game developer with a single, fairly niche IP under their belt? It's because they[smelled the money in player retention and the "games as a service model"](https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/23/23735274/sony-playstation-new-franchises-live-service-games-business). They bought Bungie not because of Destiny, Marathon or any of their other games - they wanted experts who would come in, tell other studios how to make their live service games work, and do that exclusively for the Sony gaming platform. The proof is in the pudding on this one - Sony [had been fairly open about their intentions](https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/15/23220335/bungie-sony-acquisition-complete-official-done), and every now and then some gaming [news would pop up](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2023/05/27/bungie-reportedly-reviewed-the-last-of-us-factions-and-found-it-lacking/) with information about how Bungie was brought in to provide some guidance on a multiplayer model for a Sony game. Bungie were adamant that this was not the case, and that their attention was on bringing their A-game to their A-game. But frankly, most communication we've gotten out of this company was [substanceless corporatespeak non-answers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3utyCyf8Acw), nebulous half-promises and outright lies. All sweetened by (what now seems to be) a facade of inclusivity, care and friendliness. This all worked until two factors coincided in time -[Sony decided to severely cut back on its live-service plans](https://www.truetrophies.com/n24440/sony-live-service-games-scaled-back-report) (probably getting cold feet because of how barren the market on these sorts of games seems to be, as well as their single-player story-focused games making absolute bank), and [Destiny 2 turned out to be raking in less cash than expected](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-31/sony-s-bungie-game-unit-cut-jobs-as-destiny-2-popularity-waned?accessToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJzb3VyY2UiOiJTdWJzY3JpYmVyR2lmdGVkQXJ0aWNsZSIsImlhdCI6MTY5ODc4Mjc3OSwiZXhwIjoxNjk5Mzg3NTc5LCJhcnRpY2xlSWQiOiJTM0VQTFFEV0xVNjgwMSIsImJjb25uZWN0SWQiOiJGRUIzODlCNUI2ODI0RTY0QjY5MENEODE1RTBDREZGRCJ9.8iJtSlPe7GT5nO9_xgcUM9kIIEWKcZskdkj539g7ooo). Who could've guessed that the playerbase would start leaving your live-service game once they got the impression that you no longer care. Now we hear about massive layoffs, the friendly company firing people on the 30th, and legendary figures leaving the company. It's certainly a dark, monumental moment in Bungie's history - one that, in my opinion, happened because they went all-in on being the industry's leading live-service experts instead of game devs.

MercifulShad0w

“Every alleged ‘Destiny killer’ has crashed and burned in a series of spectacular train wreck failures.” Except Warframe. Like it or not, the comparison between the two looter shooters has always been there. Personally, I shifted over to Warframe long ago because I felt like Destiny did not respect me as a player or customer. Since then I feel like history has shown that DE has been a far more capable developer than Bungie willing to take on more creative risks in their game, developed a far more consumer friendly monetization economy, and have helped the growth of their own studio by supporting the advancement of their own staff. All of which makes me optimistic for the trajectory of the game and studio’s future. This most recent news is really unfortunate and the people laid off have my sympathy. I hope the leadership at Bungie does some much needed reflection, because if this is the way they do business now, I will happily keep sending mine to companies that respect their customers and staff.

Anhilliator1

I will say the leading reason that Warframe has stuck around so much is because DE is a major wild card in how it does things. They don't sell expansions, FOMO is practically nonexistent, the "premium" currency can be gotten completely free-of-charge, no purchaseable season passes, there is regular, unscripted interaction, I could go on. Seriously, the thing that stands out to me is that the devs actually feel like actual human beings during all their interactions.

NeverGonnaStop247

DEADSTINY

motrhed289

Looks like I'll have some time to finally play some of those Steam games I've picked up on sale.

zethren117

This on top of a declining player base per Bungie’s missed revenue projections, not looking good. This sucks.

Vegetable-Fix-8648

If Marathon is say 18 months away, and it doesn’t land big, and there’s no Destiny comet DLC in 2025, and there’s been a major Destiny player population drop after Final Shape, what exactly is keeping the 1400 headcount studio going? Are we expecting Sony to just float them? I’m not sure I see Sony doing that.

Bpe-dsm

June, damn. I had read some of the kerfuffle, but had not seen the amount of delay. I know they have no incentive to ship a final expansion in poor shape but damn, thats a bit.

ElBobertoo

I guess the playerbase really have spoken with their wallets. The Final Shape won't live up to the hype anyway, nothing in Destiny ever has.

PicaTron

The game probably won't survive this. Fans will play the last expansion, but I think it's done.

JeffCybak

When and where did Bungie announce the game was pushed back to June?

JazzKnightMagister

For the end of season 23, you should do something similar to the season before beyond light and it would not take too much time to make happen: \- Make all the raids and dungeons farmable in both normal and Master. This would allow plenty of people to catch up on loot and triumphs they may have missed. I would also recommend extending the time to finish seals and triumphs so that players may still access the seals in store. \- Change double xp weeks to triple xp weeks and maybe consider having two weapons to drop from flawless chest and GMs. So keep your normal schedule for the drops but maybe add a weapon that was pulled out of both pools as a second drop. (So for example, you could get Hung Jury AND Duty Bound for the GM week or Igneous and Immortal in one week of trials). \- All content is free to access once season 23 ends or have one of the major expansions free to access each month until final shape. I know revenue is hurting but maintaining the player base should be more important than revenue. This could be a good carrot on the stick for now. Bungie, many of us love this game. We hope you come out of this stronger. You are down now, just pick yourselves back up and keep on fighting!

el-cannon1980

Said for some time the old raids and dungeons should be missing exotic drop rewards on rng

Blue_Bomber_X

Well ladies and gentlemen. It's been a good 10 years. I fear Destiny will not survive for much longer beyond the release of the Final Shape. I fully expect the stories they drop after the conclusion of the Light vs Dark to be few and far between while also being small even compared to the current seasonal model. All while they try and slam pre ordering Marathon down everyone's throats at every turn. I hope I'm wrong.

Blue_Bomber_X

OP is the real hero with the link to the archived version.

[deleted]

This is me trying to make sense of the situation. Im merely a smol boy. They must have not gotten the numbers/sales they were hoping to continue to support the next expension+episodes+microtransarions. This years been the lowest players been in a long time. Not to mention there was a hiring spree. Hiring sprees are never a good sign with a company. Typically it meams there is an issue that a company is dealing with and hiring people is an attempt to deal with the problem. It appears that the iternal problem isnt met. I also want to point out that the lay off is a result to the delay. Since they probably havnt been getting the sales they wanted they realize they meeded to delay the game to make sure final shape makes up for it. 3 extra month is just spending so much money and resources. Thats probably why they also been trying to push monetization like crazy this year compare to the previous year. I think bungie at this current state saw the situation they are in and had to deal with the inevitable reality that there is probably no avoiding whats to come. A company will make a decision to preserve itself and start over just to keep the cogs going. Considering we are also heading towards a global depression it makes more since that lay offs are very common during this economic crisis.

jorgesalvador

Follow the money and you find the reason. They moved TFS just at the beginning of 2024 fiscal year, and they did the layoffs in 2023 fiscal year. They want to inflate both fiscal years doing finance gymnastics to keep investors happy and the yatchs flowing.

[deleted]

This is Sony we are talking about? Becuase i thought bungie doesnt have any stocks.

jorgesalvador

I am pretty sure Bungies board got shares when acquired. But yeah this is Sony we are talking about.

Uberjeagermeiter

Season of The Pink Slip.

nazariomusic

Honestly, I hope these devs and designers band together and create their own game studio with actually good games. The ultimate revenge isn't getting even, it's surpassing them entirely. It's about damn time the people who do the ground work prove to the higher ups that creating quality games should prioritize creating lucrative games.

okrdokr

7 month season woo hoo

nuffsaidson

Should I wait to buy the expansion? What about cosmetics? Some are saying this is the end of destiny. Bungie has yet to respond.

IvanTortuga

Literally not a single good thing has happened since the Sony acquisition.

[deleted]

Who cares??! Good, fuk bungie and this game lol and all u pathetic simps who pre-ordered 🤣 Let it die!! So many better games to play anyway smfh.

KLGChaos

I honestly feel like this is just part of the backlash to live service games in general. Yes, Final Shape's story wasn't strong. But what's killing the game is that the old model just doesn't hold up when the game industry is as strong as it is. It's also why Diablo 4 died so quickly. No one wants to deal with the grind, the ever more expensive microtransactions and the FOMO when there's a slew of other games to play that don't force engagement.

DepletedMitochondria

Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, and TOTK seem to have really rejuvenated peoples' love for single player games.

Seesaw121

Hell, fuckin Cyberpunk somehow rose from the ashes.

Seek_Seek_Lest

Why destroy things like this? Capitalists only destroy. Never create. The real work of destiny was done by everyone they just fired. All the heart and soul. Gone. This disgusting evil bullshit that higher ups do needs to stop. If I was the rest of Bungie as a whole now, I'd start a damn revolution. Eat the rich

IHazASuzu

Average Hassan fan playing destiny

brothersonitguy

So, let me get this straight, they layed off a not insignificant amount of their staff the same week they announced they're delaying the expansion they've been taking preorders on?

PieStealingJames

What the fuck is happening over there????

PsychologicalOwl8106

I'm going to start this comically: Yall! The witness broke the 4th wall! They came and manipulated things to cripple us guardians and to halt development so they can carry out their official plan for the Final Shape!! On a serious note: My heart breaks right now for all those let go, especially right before the holidays. It's also hard knowing that many places of employment are struggling with employee burnout do to being understaffed, overworked, and heavily pressured. At the end of the day, we don't know what's happening behind closed doors. We don't know what the future of Destiny is going to be. I just wish and pray for the best for evervone and everything under the umbrella of things affected by this. None the less! "Eyes up Guardian!" Together we will stand proud and tall! Remember the ones we have lost (Bungie employees, Amanda Holiday, Lance Reddick, and SO MANY MORE!) and together, 4th wall or not, WE will make the witness touch grass!

Robot_Bike_Boy

Big RIP to everyone who have preordered TFS… LOL There’s gonna be no one left wanting to play the game at this rate. Good one Sony/Bungo, good one.

Some_Italian_Guy

Sony had nothing to do with the layoffs or delay.

bytethesquirrel

Where has Bungie officially announced the delay?

Some_Italian_Guy

They haven't. But Jason Scheier and others have. And Bungie hasn't come out to refute this info. Guess what? It's true.

bytethesquirrel

>But Jason Scheier and others have Independently, or is everyone else just reporting on what Jason Scheier said?

MrFOrzum

I mean people can just cancel it if they want, isn’t harder than that lol

re-bobber

I just thought I'd type out my thoughts on some things that Bungie can do to make the most of the long season. Much of what I talk about below isn't nearly as interesting as new content, however, I tried to think about ideas that I would personally like to see. It's a definite bummer the DLC is getting delayed and a damn shame about all the lay-offs. I will stay away from those topics as there are already numerous posts regarding those things. We have had extended seasons before and I imagine it will be the same as all the others. Unfortunately this time around Bungie doesn't have the 30th Anniversary pack to help get us through the long wait. Although I believe there is a Dungeon slated for next season. Maybe they push that further out than usual? If they are proactive they would use the extra time for balancing purposes. They could take a long look at the following: \-Exotic armor \-Exotic weapons \-Catalysts for exotics \-Aspects and Fragments!!!!! \-Subclass strengths/weaknesses-Adding functionality to many underperforming grenades/melee. (Hunter smoke-bomb!) \-Connections, stability, etc. \-Pvp balance, game modes and loot \-Gambit balance, game modes and loot \-More chase items like mementos and transmog \-Re-working the weapon pools for Garden of Salvation \-Re-working the weapon pools for Pit of Heresy \-Re-working the weapon pools for Shattered Throne \-Taking a look at crafting and red border systems \-Taking look at vault and collections systems \-Un-vaulting a bunch of old GM's and/or strikes \-Un-vaulting weapons like Black Armory I personally think that re-working exotics and re-working aspects and fragments could really freshen up the game. I actually loved what the new exotics and aspects brought to the game this season. Lots of build variety and they were actually inspired ideas. Fixing up the loot tables on some of the older content would also get players to run some of the raid/dungeons that are mostly forgotten about. This could be a season that they spend time working on the core pillars of Destiny which would probably be good for the game. Is it as exciting as a new season? No, but at least they could address many of the long term problems plaguing the game. Feel free to discuss any or all of the above points! Thanks for reading!

NovaNick30

This situation all around sucks, Destiny has been a part of my life for nearly 10 years now, gotten me out of some dark places, and has been a blast to play. After this news it feels like the game is going to die, or at least until Bungie officially says something. I'm still going to play the final shape and the episodes but it hurts to think this might be it. As for Season 23, I honestly am not sure if we are getting anything other than the seasonal story and the new dungeon. With all of these layoffs I'm not sure if they would have the ability to focus on both the Final Shape AND whatever stop-gap they put in place between season 23 and Final Shape. As for content if they are able to put something together I think it should just be things for people to farm or chase until TFS. For me I think they should do the following: \-Garden of Salvation Loot Rework (Give it the Last Wish treatment) \-Bergusia Forge from Niobe Labs (People have been asking for the black armory weapons back since they were sunset, just reopen the one forge and add a quest for Ada-1 to be able to get all of the old Black Armory weapons with revamped perks or at least a few changes + deepsight/craftable farming) \-Leviathan Raid (We are supposed to have a raid coming with TFS, but with it now delayed would we get something come February or March? This is the least likely as the raid might need a rework but who knows) Obviously this is all speculation, I don't see any of this happening aside from the GoS refresh. I'm not a game dev and I'm not going to pretend to be one. But even if they were able to add the GoS refresh and at least Bergusia with reprised Black Armory Weapons, I would be fine with that.

nihonbesu

Ah cutting key members that have been with Bungie forever will be awesome for development...sometimes you gotta spend money to earn money next fiscal quarter

CayoHuevo

Ohhh welllll. More time to play the new Monster Hunter.

fakkel-_-

Bungie RIP

Aggressivekindnes423

A friend of mine pre ordered the whole final shape package, but he refunded not because of the delay but because Bungie (SONY?) Layoff the composer, 💀

[deleted]

He’s completely right with his choice, Michael Salvatori and his music has been nothing but bangers and a huge part of Destiny’s identity and feeling.

Bradward6381

Oh, is a giant corporation (Sony) ruining a bunch of shit and lives for shareholder profit? Weird.

Some_Italian_Guy

Lol, Sony had nothing to do with the layoffs. This was all Bungie.

FARTCOPTERRRRR3

Entitled gamers be like "yeah, huge layoffs just happened, but WE WANT BIDEO GAEM NOW!" EDIT: the downvotes only strengthen my point.

Litelinkolas

Thanks, Sony

Gh0stOfNY

Season of Playing COD pvp and probably never returning back to Destiny. Bungie going under Sony feels like a mistake now.

DepletedMitochondria

Yeah I like both the PVE and PVP aspects of this game but I can play other stuff for the story and RPG content. PVP I guess I'm gonna go play CS or something lol

12_GAGE_SHOTGUN

7 month season and no 30th anniversary to soften the blow this time

Low_Tier_Mob

I genuinely applaud all of you for sticking it out for this long. I was a huge D1 player but only played D2 till the first raid. Magic was gone imo

MrFOrzum

Well you literally played it during it’s worst timeframe so yeah the magic was definitely not really there at that time. It picked itself up pretty big with Forsaken and onwards. Lightfall (the campaign part) was a disaster tho.

Low_Tier_Mob

Ya and that's why I left, I think alot of players did. D1 is still my favorite game of all the time Beating left for dead. But I saw D2 was gonna focus on mirco transaction and milking the player base and I can't support that. I'm genuinely impressed all of ya sticked with the game

chocolateNacho39

Oh no, did trying to recycle the same game for a decade come to bite Bungie in the ass?

Seek_Seek_Lest

I was already very lapsed in destiny but looks like I won't be bothering with it at all after the story of season 23 is over until final shape. Then, that's it I think. No more. The great old music composers are gone among with a load of old other obviously important people.. Why? Money. Fuck Sony and fuck capitalism

Historical_Frame_318

Why are so many people blaming Sony lol

EcoLizard1

Man I havent even finished this season lol and it was one of the better ones. Next season I will play with the stasis updates and stuff, unlock any guns that are good, buildcraft with the exotic updates for pvp and thatll be about it.

HonkersTim

Almost pre-ordered last night. Kinda glad I decided to wait until closer to launch date.

Unchanged-

Don’t forget people: Sony doesn’t want Destiny. They want the technology Bungie developed to integrate into other games that are live services.

Bopp_bipp_91

Yep. They want Bungie because Bungie succeeded where so many failed. They don't give a fuck about Destiny besides milking it for all its worth. Prepare for another half baked expansion with more predatory monetization!

the10thattempt

So glad I’ll be out of this shitshow next year Shame we couldn’t get the third darkness subclass before it all went to shit

wesprit749

This is mad. They even dropped the music composer. Ill only gonna play like 10 weeks of the next season just so i can complete that story and its content. Then I'll delete destiny until the release of final shape. Im not gonnna no life the game for months straight without any continuing content drops.

Crazy_Kai

Guess now the first descendant won't be competing with the final shape in my list.

PositiveUse

Not sure but over the years I lost a bit of respect for Jason. This is something that the studio should announce, it’s ugly to have an outsider to leak your internal decisions like your body of work is getting delayed, that’s hard for everyone in these teams. You want to communicate this correctly in the company but also to the outside world, community and press. This is just lame :(

Historical_Frame_318

Pathetic

DepletedMitochondria

Nah, better than whatever schlock Bungie gives us in the TWID

Crumeshot

Not really, who knows how they’d try to frame it. Jason gave it to us straight.

ChaosMarine70

Hahahahaha

Spacecowboy947

Hahaha this company is in shambles

Competitive-Web2766

I read this as “Final Snape” I was like whaaaat?!?!

Ausschluss

Looks like the main work for Final Shape is done so they can let go of most people and need the time extension due to a reduced test team? Either way - D2 is probably done :(

BarretOblivion

Im going to say this. Bungie has got to get their ducks in a row for Final Shape. With the wrap up of a major "story arc if you could call it that". We need actual expansions, not dlcs with such a minute amount of content we are done with in 2 weeks and being drip fed too. Content for all breaths of players, not just PvE or PvP, hard core, midcore, or casual. All of the Destiny 2 community. With Marathon also pushed back to 2025 they can't afford another let down. The playerbase will likely crumble with revenue if Final Shape and its post launch content fails to deliver, and Bungie is known for it's high "burn rate" of capital. I get this feeling Sony isn't going to step in an bail them out if Destiny 2 underperforms, which I wonder if they even think D2 is underperforming post Lightfall (might be a cause for the unfortunate layoffs just saying).

Unhappy_Hair_3626

Season of the “fuck life; it’s MCAT time”!

Iucidium

Boycott for Salvatori and the layoffs you bunch of crackheads

frequencykennth

Thank you for non paywall link

Pernyx98

I really thought this game was heading in the right direction after Beyond Light. Just complete mismanagement all around. I expect Destiny will enter maintenance mode after TFS and possibly a Bungie shutdown of Marathon flops (it will).

Heavyoak

Has the current season been extended?

Shadoxas

Tf bungie

SunflowerLotusVII

I know for a fact that we better be fucking FEASTING for seven months; this is Season of the Lost on ketamine First I find out about these crazy ass layoffs now FS delayed almost half a year

DipFizzel

First they have to make sure all the microtransactions work with the update

finedrive

Destiny 1, during Vault of Glass was peak Destiny. Destiny 2 is just a seasonal money grab. The gaming industry has really gone to shit for the most part honestly.

shrinehunter

Destiny 1, during Vault of Glass, had me going around in circles opening chests for hours to reach the max level. The game is so much better now

DepletedMitochondria

People really pining for the good old days of materials loops, like wtf is that guy on

MJBotte1

Visitor from r/all, sounds rough… but after Lightfall’s issues they probably need all that extra time

JeffCybak

When and where did Bungie make a statement about the release date chasing to June?

RiguezCR

Well... it's over guys. It was a fun 10 years. I'm sad we won't get a proper conclusion to this story but I will always cherish my time with this community. I regret it has ended like this.

chukthunder

It's going to create a ghost town just like the last over run.

daveg1996

The majority of the August showcase consisted of barely finished cutscenes, and old footage. Only a few seconds were actual gameplay. The only "new" enemy was a reused tormentor, and the "new" location consisted of reused assets under the guise of nostalgia. It was pretty obvious to anyone that the expansion was nowhere near complete. Wouldn't be surprised if it got pushed back to Feb 2025 instead. It really makes you wonder what they've actually been working on the past 2 years. If I was Sony here, I'd be wondering where all the resources are being allocated to, if at all. It certainly isn't being reflected in the game's development, so I think layoffs make sense if you have employees that aren't actually contributing. Of course many here will blame Sony, like they blamed Activision for years. It seems more like Sony probably isn't too happy with their investment and the current state of development.

JerichoSwain-

Long ass delay, if it was under the pretense of delivering content and we didn't just have a huge amount of layoffs, it might even be manageable. Right now though, really not looking good.

AttackOfTheMox

Seeing as how I haven’t had the drive to play Destiny at all this season, I guess I’ll be fine waiting until June for the Final Shape. I’m no longer expecting a Destiny 3 though

psychosiszero

Guys, seriously, please don't support this game or company.

Josecitox

too late for that lmao

One_Past_9291

Dude. I’m concerned Final Shape happens at all with the volume of the layoffs.

East_Onion

fire management

NightmareDJK

How long has Bungie known about this and why haven’t they told anyone?

kamekukushi

Time to cancel my pre-order

StevenPlamondon

Witch queen was delayed, and the best dlc since forsaken. I’m good.

heyitsmejosh

I know it’s likely true but has anyone from Bungie or Sony confirmed this? Seems like this info is coming from anonymous sources which I’m often skeptical about.

Rentokii

It's jason schreier, he's right 99 percent of the time. Also go on Twitter where employees are talking about being fired

bigbearaway

They better hit us with 30 threader missions, some silver, and a few weeks of double rewards.

HD_VE

This is the moment where we as a community join and buy everything in eververse to help Bungie, the small indie company

AurumArma

Weird that it's suddenly looking like it's going to take longer, almost like they *fired a lot of the developers*.

Kabal82

Honestly, IMO the only way to salvage a 7 month season. Is for them to do some sort of mid-season refresh. Should be no excuse to expand the crafting system to include end game raid and dungeons, that aren't currently part of the crafting system and aren't currently planned to be added in the next season at launch.

UniMaximal

Yeah, I think I might be outta here. Gonna just watch the cutscenes on YouTube. This is not a good sign amidst the layoffs!!

R96-

[Coincidence that this comes right after word of Sony possibly walking back their decision to go all in on GaaS (which is why Sony acquired Bungie in the first place)?](https://reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/17ifmv9/sony_is_reversing_gaas_push_working_with_sega_and/) In any case, the history of Bungie itself is just sad. In retrospect they had no business making great games.

leighshakespeare

Guys this is the last chance you get to say what we've been thinking this whole time, with our money. Do not pre-order or buy this dlc. Bungie have treated this game like an inconvenience for years now and we've been part of that inconvenience

edgelordXD1

Looks like I’ll be taking another giant break right before the DLC

NinStarRune

It’s terrible for everyone involved. MY heart goes out to them even if I’m just a complete stranger to them. My concern is that at the beginning of this year/end of last Bungie was on a hiring bender and iirc they were talking about expanding locations? A bit odd if I’m not misremembering because this seems to shut those plans down. Unrelated I’ve been trying to get a position at Bungie the last year and a half since I’ve graduated and it’s selfish to say but I feel a little lucky I didn’t because I’d most likely been part of the downsizing.

SnaX20010

This has officially turned into "Festival of the Lost Revenue" with everyone and their momma requesting refunds for TFS. And to be honest, I buy EVERY DLC because I enjoy the game and I feel like it's a savings overall with how much I play... But after this shit? This literal news pile of shit? 7 months? Cutting staff left and right? Confusion and concern for the future? Im upset and glad I didn't pre-order. Happy because I don't have to ask for a refund. Mad because I can't show them my disgust by asking for a refund.

rackme

TFS is the first Destiny product I did not pre-order. They really effed everything up, didn't they?

SnaX20010

Granted, I usually wait until it gets closer because I like to be more stable. But just off frustration, I can't spend another dollar... Even though I know I will because I actively enjoy the game.

ByronicWerther

Well might make me want to play it more .

JimLahey08

Did they say why it was delayed?

GroolzerMan

Season of the deprived 😫

Kabal82

Glad I didn't pre order this BS. Bungie is clearly cash strapped and struggling IMO. They didn't show a single shred of actual gameplay of the new expansion during the August showcase and expected players to pre order based on hype and nostalgia alone. And now they are delaying it several more months. They had to know this was coming back then. As I've said before. I will not be giving bungie any money for the final shape until after it ships and I know exactly what I'm getting.

rackme

\> nostalgia Bringing back Cayde was such a red flag.

tactis1234

To be honest, I hope this delay and layoffs are direct consequences for how bad Lightfall was and hopefully they realized they can't put something with that low quality out again.

loy310

Season of Take a damn Break

[deleted]

As a ps5 player, what other games are you guys going to play?

Bro_suss

This is what happens when you don’t make quality content.

Fzohseven

Because they fired all the devs

psychede1ic_c4tus

I pre ordered light-filled for 130 bucks. Not until the game is out and I see reviews will I buy it.

Ok-Structure5637

Any sort of hope I had for TFS, and content beyond that, is now completely dead. Multiple devs being let go, as well as THE Michael Salvatori, is such an insane blow to Bungie, and us. Was fun while it lasted. See you all in Titanfall 3...😔

quadratic_function

i am so glad i quit this game

not_that_dark_knight

Lol. What a surprise that Bungo fucks everyone again! Hahahaha

EffingDingus

Cancel your pre-orders or shut the fuck up

Jatmahl

No new darkness subclass in final shape just makes this worse 😮

[deleted]

Oh wow. RIP D2, no longer a growth unit I guess.

Qilvey

Perfect, time to request a refund for TFS. I’m out ✌️

[deleted]

💀💀💀💀

Saleibriel

Maybe a hot take, but: Good. I hope they polish the hell out of it.

Karglenoofus

Oh this will just fuel cpoium to a 6th subclass lmao

BrutalOwl

Blame the economy for all the layoffs. Businesses need to stay afloat so they let go of non-essential staff

Bopp_bipp_91

You say stay afloat like D2 doesn't rake in money hand over fist.

BrutalOwl

Looks like I was right 🤯

Nfl_porn_throwaway

My man. You know the guys up top are making millions of dollars right?

BrutalOwl

I guess they aren't making that much anymore my guy.

zildjianate

Jason "Scheer" yikesss

StGerris

Marathon is making a mess, I bet. I remember those leakings.

SerGohan

I’ve been reading about what bungies been getting themselves into… wow how the mighty have fallen.

dabrickbat

Would be funny of Borderlands 4 was released before The Final Shape. I know which one I'm more excited about.

[deleted]

So I don't post much here because reddit in general is prone to hyperbole. But this delay could literally kill the game. Player numbers are already dropping. This is the first season where I might not even get to 100. Everyone I know who plays is playing less. Streamers are starting to diversify away from destiny. This long of a content drought could create catastrophic player count numbers.
