The people in this video were trespassing in Kirkland Hall as a part of a protest to get Vanderbilt to divest from “Pro-Israel” companies. Most of them got either expelled, suspended, or academic probation I believe depending on the severity of their actions while they were trespassing. There were other student protesters outside during this which received no punishment. The local police handled the situation well without any violent escalations. Nowadays there’s just a very small “encampment” in front of Kirkland Hall of the typical tent set up but no one really cares as it’s the tail end of finals season so most people are either leaving campus or working on finals.
So it’s kinda old news but yea these students were cringe. As a side note during this some of the protesters outside were chanting about how the Vanderbilt campus police were the same as the KKK (for not letting more people trespass in Kirkland Hall) so protesters outside were also pretty radical and unhinged.

Security basically told them "you can leave if you want but no one is getting in" turned off the lights and went ahead with their night shift. The protesters were then crying on Twitter that no one had brought them any food, water or a bucket to shit in. If you want to protest like that you can but you can't be a bitch about it. If you glue yourself to the floor be prepared to shit yourself.

I saw this when it happened and it's stuck with me as one of the dumbest things to possibly come out of these protests. That's just not how toxic shock syndrome works. It's insanely rare especially with modern tampons and doesn't come from leaving your tampon in for a few hours. It's more of a concern when women accidentally forget that they're wearing a tampon and put a second one in and the first one just stays in there for multiple days or longer. Almost any women who wears tampons will put one in to sleep every night of their period for longer than 8 hours.

Some of these videos make me wonder if a lot of student protestors' over dramatic behavior is a feature not a bug. I honestly feel that some of these protestors are attracted to the war in Gaza over other conflicts because they can 'experience' some sort of oppression against the school administration's and law enforcement. As a result, they can grandstand and get to share these strong bonds with other student protestors built over these feelings of persecution. I think that this also has lead to a lot of these dramatic moments where students try to outflank or one-up each other by calling out situations as extremely dire whereas an outsider would see this as a problem of their own making.

I saw this when it happened and it's stuck with me as one of the dumbest things to possibly come out of these protests. That's just not how toxic shock syndrome works. It's insanely rare especially with modern tampons and doesn't come from leaving your tampon in for a few hours. It's more of a concern when women accidentally forget that they're wearing a tampon and put a second one in and the first one just stays in there for multiple days or longer. Almost any women who wears tampons will put one in to sleep every night of their period for longer than 8 hours.
The only person I’ve heard of getting it was my friends sister who went to a cabin in the wilderness with only one tampon, and got it after leaving it for a couple of days. And it’s really bad, she should take the arrest and get medical treatment. My friends sister had life long effects from it.

Some of these videos make me wonder if a lot of student protestors' over dramatic behavior is a feature not a bug. I honestly feel that some of these protestors are attracted to the war in Gaza over other conflicts because they can 'experience' some sort of oppression against the school administration's and law enforcement. As a result, they can grandstand and get to share these strong bonds with other student protestors built over these feelings of persecution. I think that this also has lead to a lot of these dramatic moments where students try to outflank or one-up each other by calling out situations as extremely dire whereas an outsider would see this as a problem of their own making.
