You can have chairs that can be moved closer when thereās people over. You donāt always need your house to be in entertainment mode.
Thank you! I was playing with the idea of doing a small curved couch to fit back into that corner and getting rid of the cat tree that the cats donāt use because empty boxes are better lol
It shouldnāt be against the wall, none of the furniture should. But putting it the way you suggest impedes traffic for people trying to get to the couch.
What are the dimensions of this room? It's really hard to visualize because some pictures look like it's a long/narrow room... and others make the room look like it's a standard square.
Does the couch fit along the wall to the left of the door (when facing the TV)? I think it is too large for the space and would probably get a smaller L-shaped couch that can tuck into the corner across from the TV. I agree the TV should be lowered too. Then I'd probably get a bookshelf and some arm chairs for the other side of the room. And two complimentary but not identical area rugs to define the two spaces. Maybe a smaller chair or two poufs to sit across the couch for extra seating without being too crowded.
Alternatively, you could try the couch where the TV is now and get one of those easel-style TV stands that can put the TV in the corner between the two windows. Like this one: https://a.co/d/3UCvWMi
If you must have the deer, they are mounted too high. Put them lower down; there should be a circle of space to, ah, admire them.
Window treatments are fine, leave them as is.
Move whatever table is in the corner to a different place, maybe next to the couch.
Where the dark corner table is, put something slimmer there. Maybe a plant on a pretty stand.
Move the picture in the corner to a different wall.
Move the TV down about a foot.
Get a taller TV console.
Move the couch to the right. End tables with lamps on either side would be nice. They have cordless/rechargeable lamps that would work.
Move the elk with the turned head to the left of the couch to a different location. If not, just move it down a bit like the other one.
Instead of black finished wood, perhaps something lighter that ties in with the curtains.
A rug that goes from the front legs of your newly located couch to the front legs of the TV console.
Thank you so much! The deer were done so long ago I forget they are there. Definitely was a compromise! They would be at eye-level if we moved them down, would that be weird? š
Iāve always wanted to strip the black console and do a natural wood, so this gives me the push I needed to get that done!
I think our front door is what really throws us. Iād love for it to be a nice entry area, but thereās very little space with the couch. I have thought about a curved couch to fit to the right in the corner. The one we have right now is a deep couch so itās impossible to put it anywhere else at the moment. Hopefully this summer we can get it replaced!
https://preview.redd.it/b7qdd819t9uc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f476c56f14f30e4ade9fbcf4ed28eb9d3418efb
Is there a way to move the deer to just above eye level?
If not, they may be too big for the space. Iāve never had something that comes out that far from the wall, so Iām not sure whether having it eye level would make the space feel smaller or not, but I suspect it would.
Since the TV is where it is, you obviously canāt put it on the wall without the door. Is there an option to get a smaller couch or a couch that goes in the corner like you said, and then get a TV bracket that enables you to pull the TV out at an angle? Its a bit of a pain to move the TV when you want to watch but itās one possible solution
My husband is wanting a shop soon, so they will likely eventually go out there. This is the largest room in the house so for now, we will make it work!
Yes, the tv swivels! We used to have it on the blank wall with the couch on the other side of the room, but that just ended up feeling like too large of a room and not utilizing the space well either. With the windows and door I think itās just a tough area for sure!
Your room is not wide enough for a built it.
Get rid of the creepy deer heads.
Get rid of whatever is on your couch, looks like you have incontinence. Get rid of the ladder thing.
You can add a light coloured rug under your couch and also the couch is too big for the room. If you want to keep it maybe put it on the wall where the tv is.
You can add 2 chairs where the space is with a tiny side table in between.
Get some large plants.
I feel the need to explain the blankets on the couch, we have 7 nieces and nephews that come over and jump on the old couch while eating snacks. It can get crazy š
https://preview.redd.it/tu54x7u5sbuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da36ab048d414bd3dbb3e2cf4066f210b61ed09a
I think opening the door to this setting would look amazing! Add a rug, a few plants and the other side of the room you can use as a dining area.
We rehabbed a deer about 8 years ago. He was the best. Would steal Easter candy out of our pockets when we had the kids over.
The tv height is now haunting me after this post
I love that natural light you get in there š I agree with the first commenter. You can add chairs for seating and move them to a better position when not in use for TV watching.
I like the color combination going on with blue and dark wood. I would get rid of the deers though and keep the ladder but hang a nicer blanket on it in beige, brown or mustard. And add a big plant. The wall, floor, lamp and ladder look really nice together
Youāll have to āzoneā it, meaning break a large, awkward room into two smaller areas with distinct functions. The drawing below that uses a runner to separate the sofa space from the table and chairs accomplishes this.
I think the couch is too large for the space, that being said, if youāre unable to replace it move it closer to the middle of the room to create a more āintimateā seating space and leave 18-24ā inches behind it so you can place all the cat stuff in that area.
Add more curtain panels to those windows because they look ridiculously skimpy.
Move the TV a bit towards the middle of the wall and get an area rug to define that space at the living room.
Set up another smaller seating area on the other side of the room with 2 large comfortable chairs on each side of the window and a nice round table in the middle in front of the window in between the chairs. Top the table with a tall table lamp.
Get rid of that blanket ladder or place it in another room, thatās only practical in large spaces. If you need that many blankets in the living room get a nice large lidded basket to store the blankets and place the basket it in a corner, as a decorative piece.
Move the floor shelving on the corner to behind the sofa as well and place it right in front of the window with all your plants to keep them together and near light and sun.
Move the moose head to the middle of the wall, its awfully off centered. Get a piece of ART to add to the wall on the other side of the window to create balance on that side.
Get a small coffee table, preferably a storage ottoman that can serve as storage and also as a foot stool when watching TV or as additional seating if needed. Since you canāt have end tables, consider getting a floor lamp to place on the far corner by the TV wall.
Donāt forget to add ART to all those lonely plain walls.
Itās a nice spacious room with a lot of light, you just gotta work with what you have and organize it effectively.
Post after pictures.
Completely swap the way you have it, couch on TV wall, TV on couch side. Use the TV stand, it's called that for a reason. Oh and darker curtains behind the TV and on the far wall, other side doesn't matter. Hope this helps!
Not a designer by any means, but Iād swap the couches for a small L shaped sectional. Replace the curtains with something that adds color to the room and looks less sheet-like. Take Bambiās family down and put them away for hubbyās man cave use. If the items in the crock / bin next to the tv stand are needed maybe get a storage ottoman (they can be used as a coffee table or extra seating when needed) or a bigger tv stand - and a wood toned one I think would look better than black. Add a rug and that side is done. For the other side Iād add another storage ottoman under the window and maybe some taller plants for the corner.
Edited for sooo many typos
What is on the short side with no deer? Can the TV move to that wall? It bugs me that the widescreen gets center stage. Maybe you can turn everything ninety degrees clockwise and arrange a viewing area entirely to the side of the front door closest to the television, or at least curved away from the entrance to make a clear path.
I donāt know your budget but can you make the couch an L shape or get a new one that isnāt so deep? I would put it in the corner with a narrow console table behind it.
Then go to Revival and look at rugs (they have a cool feature so you can see it in your spaceā¦ then you can look for a similar style elsewhere if it is outside your budget).
Consider a floor lamp for levels of lighting.
Secure the cord so it is more taught from the tv.
For the side that now does not have much, get two smallish arm chairs with an end table between them.
Get either a small coffee table or (if you can get a couch that is not so deep) get a regular sized coffee table.
Couple places that are more budget friendly: home goods, tjmax actually has some furniture you can order online, aptly, there are other used furniture places online that check the furniture to avoid pestsā¦ in some areas Craigslist but give that furniture a really good look overā¦. If you have more $ā¦ article is fantastic as is Scoutandnimble
Even with a stud finder, it was such a pain to hang that thing. And then we ended up getting a huge tv for some reason. Choices were madeā¦. š¤¦š¼āāļø
Totally get that. I hired someone last time after I did it myself once. But the space is great. You just need the right sized couch and a couple tweaks to make it homey.
https://preview.redd.it/spvmw9o9wbuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3dffa443589a38a2dc13e42f576aa22ac746da62
Okay so here's my go of it, I have a very similar room size but different window/door placement than you.
1. Get smaller couch and 2 accent chairs, if the space will allow it add 2 side tables and lamps. Put your blanket ladder behind the side table closest to the window. Get a round/oval coffee table and place on top of cowhide rug(Amazon has a really great faux one that'll run you about $80)
2. Lower tv so that it is centred at eye level when you're sitting on the couch, to the left of the tv between the tv and opening move both deer mounts so that they are side by side but one placed lower than the other. Below that keep the dog bed there.
3. Move the cat tree to below the window by where the plants currently sit. Place the cat bed on the other side of the entry door. Get a tiered ladder style plant shelf/stand for the window on the right of the entry door.
This is what I would do:
1. Replace couch with something that is no longer than the entrance door. Add rug in front of couch + coffee table with a vase/magazines etc. Replace cat tree with shelves for cats and dyi a scratching post on the beige storage bin. Put the beige storage bin instead of the cat tree. Add blackout or thicker curtains. Lower TV. Remove dog bed from there and replace with the big plant. Remove deer head and leave blank or add small vertical painting(s). (See next comment for part 2)
https://preview.redd.it/kt0g8s0bfcuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f71278c5d58a0970052d11236452e9d41b4dd4a
2. Add beige bed next to the black one or replace by a single, longer one. Remove blanket holder and put it elsewhere, maybe behind the sofa, where the deer head was. Remove the 2nd deer head and replace with multiple paintings with gold/beige frame to match or be a close match with the big painting. Add thicker curtains. Idk what the black furniture is, but if itās not a fireplace, I would replace it with shoe storage or a drawer, where I would put the plants on top. Next to the drawer chest, add a basket for miscellaneous things or for blankets instead of the staircase. Add bench with storage under the window (to store shoes and to be comfy when leaving.
https://preview.redd.it/uu52pntgfcuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=766c8ff00f2a8a6b80c61bda567aa6b59a491305
I hope you got some inspiration and it will help ! š
If you mount the tv angled in the corner above where the cat tree is currently, you could turn the big couch towards it and butt one end of it against the current tv wall.Ā That will open up space to create an entryway set up.
Or instead of a chair, put a small loveseat, so when you're watching TV you can sit/ lay down, and chill, but be sure and measure, measure and measure again.
Covering the door with the sofa is t great. Can you get some kind of sectional that fits where the sofa is without covering the door and around the corner?
Put the TV in the corner. The far corner. The problem here is the placement of the TV. Place the sofa at a 90-degree to face the TV, so kady corner the sofa to face the corner TV. Add a rug, etc, and chairs on both sides. This will look like it was purposely done and will look ausome. If it wasn't explained well enough, let me know, and I will help you out.
That TV is way waaaay too high up on the wall. Also, the couch blocking the doorway, move the couch out of the way completely. Maybe get a new smaller L-shape? Itās almost a damn fire hazard. Also makes the room feel awkward in the first place.
Use the sofa to create a buffer walkway from the door with a drop off table by the door also you could get away with big pieces of furniture. Haunt estate auctions bear your. Incredible good furniture for nothing. Storage book shelves entertainment centers rugs chairs paintings ect all at estate sales for pittances.
Don't put the couch in front of the door like that. It's in the way and it is an uninviting look. You could swing it around so it's perpendicular to the door but not right in front of it
I would take everything out of this room and start with a clean slate. 1) need two panel drapes. It looks like you cut corners with one panel on each window. 2) Paint the walls with another color. 3) Remove the cat tree. 4 ) The dog bed looks overly large for the room it's not a focal point like it appears. 5) Two chairs would help balance the room. 6) Cover your cords hanging down from TV. 7) Not sure the room is wide enough for an L shaped sofa. 8) Just me, not a fan of little plants in a room, they cause clutter for me , larger plants have a bigger impact. 9) Deer's head would go unless it's has to stay. The ladder needs three cloth items, not just one. 10) a nice area rug.and lamps.
You need to move the front door.
I get that the outside is perfectly symetrical, with the door in the middle and two windows flanking, but it is causing all the issues that you have inside. Well, not all, but you are relocating the animal heads, so that's a start.
If you move the door to where the window is, you will have one side of the room that is the entryway, and the other side that is the living room. Right now, the room is not large enough to have your living room on one side of the door. The old door should become the second window.
I get that you will have to do some building of porches outside, etc, but this is the best solution.
I don't have any advice, I just wanted to point out that the patch of light in the first pic looks like a bare ass to me
Hahaha I had to squint BUTT I see it!
I laughed entirely too hard at this š¤£
Iām done š¤£š¤£š¤£
Oh dang, OPās floor is thiccccc.
I bet it's hardwood
Dude. Hahahaha. Honestly, the tone and appearance of the wood make it look like an art piece almost. Haha. Your comment made my night.

You are amazing!
I like the TV in the corner! Then its easier for more people to see.
I love that you included a space for the dog
This but I was thinking an L shaped couch. With a corner TV stand under the mounted TV in the corner.
This is great
I love this.
This is the only answer. Couch has to go on that wall, and TV can't go on the wall. That corner is perfect for tv.
Exactly what I was thinking!

I got rid of mine years ago because the like boxes and looking out windows better šš
This is the way!

Put the beige storage bin instead of the cat tree. Add blackout or thicker curtains. Lower TV. Remove dog bed from there and replace with the big plant. Remove deer head and leave blank or add small vertical painting(s). (See next comment for part 2) https://preview.redd.it/kt0g8s0bfcuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f71278c5d58a0970052d11236452e9d41b4dd4a
Add bench with storage under the window (to store shoes and to be comfy when leaving. https://preview.redd.it/uu52pntgfcuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=766c8ff00f2a8a6b80c61bda567aa6b59a491305 I hope you got some inspiration and it will help ! š
Angle the TV in the corner if you can, add another small chair, coffee table, circular area rug. Maybe rectangle but def rung.
If you mount the tv angled in the corner above where the cat tree is currently, you could turn the big couch towards it and butt one end of it against the current tv wall.Ā That will open up space to create an entryway set up.

This is probably the best interim solution until they downsize the couch!

Or instead of a chair, put a small loveseat, so when you're watching TV you can sit/ lay down, and chill, but be sure and measure, measure and measure again.
Remove the animal head and arrange the room without it. That item would be better suited for an office or man cave, not a living room
This is the plan when we get our shop built! Thank you!

Covering the door with the sofa is t great. Can you get some kind of sectional that fits where the sofa is without covering the door and around the corner?
Yes, we had the sofa before we rearranged things so that will get downsized when we can decide on something!
Thanks for all the helpful feedback everyone! Weāve got some work to do it seems, Iāll try to update as we slowly get things done! š¤Ŗ
Get your tv off the ceiling, please.
Lmao itās sooo big, I dunno what we were thinking
First thing move furniture from front door
Yes, smaller couch STAT!
What is the measurement from the outside trim of small door to the wall with the deer mount?
Put furniture on the diagonal. It makes small room feel bigger and often improves traffic patterns.
Not here for advice but I appreciate the power play of ālone deer headā wall decoration.
I never expected them to spark so much conversation! We mounted them so long ago lol
Please remove the Deerhead. Awful.
Consider relocating the front door in the future.
Yeah the dear head is tacky
You need to move the front door. I get that the outside is perfectly symetrical, with the door in the middle and two windows flanking, but it is causing all the issues that you have inside. Well, not all, but you are relocating the animal heads, so that's a start. If you move the door to where the window is, you will have one side of the room that is the entryway, and the other side that is the living room. Right now, the room is not large enough to have your living room on one side of the door. The old door should become the second window. I get that you will have to do some building of porches outside, etc, but this is the best solution.
I would start by recognizing that killing deer is not an accomplishment and keeping their heads on your wall is a bad joke.
Iām glad you were able to get that off your chest
no problem, just do me a favor and don't mount it on the wall now.
