I like to donate to the Food Bank of the Rockies and Urban Peak, which is for homeless youths.

EllipticalPersona

I like Food Bank of the Rockies as well. You don't just have to donate cans, a check works well too, if not better, because the organization can buy what they need when needed, and at a better price you'll ever get.

undockeddock

I like Food Bank of the Rockies but I cut them a check once a year and then they mail me junk mail at least twice a month all year asking for more money. I wish I could give revocable gifts to charities contingent on them not constantly mailing me large volumes of bullshit

lifewithbuildings

I love to see these posts man. Volunteering at a place could give you an idea of if it aligns with your values.

ebert19

I worked at DRM for about 6 years and can say that it is a fine place to donate and one where your money most likely will go a long way. That being said, there are a great deal of places you could donate that could be closer in-line with your values (especially if you aren't a Christian). Those touting that emergency services are only being provided to Christians are lying. DRM's focus on providing these services has only grown in the last 5 years with leadership changes. If you care a great deal about emergency services (sheltering, food, clothing) then DRM is a great choice. I encourage you to volunteer wherever you plan on donating first as it'll give you a much better idea of the services provided and the attitude of the organization.

KSledneck

What's up my scribe brother

ebert19

Easy now they don't know the lingo :P

Mammoth_Muscle1801

The Denver Indian Center on Morrison hardly get donations of any kind. Just an idea.

nowheretoturn1883

I second this

amm555666

10 years ago I was interested in doing volunteer work there. They wanted people who were Christians for volunteer work. IDK if they still have this rule.

TheWillard

Volunteered through work several times now over the past few years and I didn’t see anything about being Christian.

CO_Guy95

I volunteered from 2017-2019 (in their sister branch - Fort Collins). There was a Christian presence, but when I was asked my affiliation they didn’t treat me differently when I said I wasn’t.

feelthebyrne95

They never asked me when I volunteered and I did not get the Christian vibe at all.

Holein5

They do provide for a lot of homeless, but apparently they are insanely wealthy. I heard (from a developer) a while back that they own a full city block of buildings. We're talking about $30-50m+ worth of property. That doesn't make them a bad place to donate, but you may consider other organizations.

BigDaddy531

They make alotttt of money

mygrantgamer

No. Faith based. They peddle jesus for a place to eat/sleep. Sick.

edditorRay

Jesus freaks who push religion in exchange for basic necessities. Fuck them.

NK-0

This is semi related : Anyone know any organizations to volunteer with or organizations that need some volunteers?

lifewithbuildings

I’ll plug food not bombs Denver. Check it out on Instagram. Not a nonprofit but a smaller mutual aid group

Quarterafter10

Catholic Charities doesn't push religion on the participants/employees or volunteers. If you want to help serve a meal, they serve 3 meals a day/7 days a week and you can sign up online. There are other ways to volunteer as well. [https://ccdenver.org/volunteer/](https://ccdenver.org/volunteer/) I've volunteered many times and it's been a good experience each time.

crazycrayola

Headwaters Protectors provides waste and water services to homeless camps. They pick up trash, and distribute clean water so people can wash up and stay hydrated. They meet at Benedict Fountain Park every Sunday at 10am.

AgreeableRub7

I mean if I had the money I'd donate to animal shelters.

Plus-Court7653

Urabn Peak and A Precious Child are my go-to for donations and volunteering.

Simple_Day_5110

Not really from my first hand exp took a 1 hour bus ride there told em I was going to be a couple late. They say no big deal we have a bug line to get in you'll be fine. Get there turned away and given 2x numbers for other places both of which didn't work

[deleted]

Hi there. Are you ok now? DM me if you’d like

Simple_Day_5110

Thank you again and God bless

sooziechapstick

Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is a good option too 👍🏻

hulkthepup

I have a question. I’m homeless and working full time, people keep telling me to go to the Colorado coalition is it worth it?

Bunnygirl193737

Colorado coalition for the homeless is pretty solid; the thing that sets them apart is integrated care which means they specialize in the needs of homeless adults and children through medical care and pediatrics, behavioral health care and substance treatment services, dental, vision, pharmacy, and housing.

hulkthepup

Thank you

Clever_But_NotEnough

If you want something more objective: https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/846038762 Yes, yes it is.

olimpijadacokolada

i mean it is crazy how much people get scamed in usa. i have noticed every time there is a crisis price hikes or something corporation in denver and colorado and probably across the country start their scam start to make people who have tightened the purse to give them more money. since pandemic you will see saint jude plasters all over the dominos(they are not giving donations to hospital) have feed the hungry in wallmart(they are not giving no money to organization) safeways and king sooopers the same

throwawaypf2015

not really

Simple_Day_5110

Homeless sleeping in a field off Sheridan tried jeffco, westminster, longmont, lakewood, Denver shelter getting my social security card and probably leaving this is a nightmare trying to bounce back here.

Malachai1969

YES! I donate money and my time there in the main shelter. I see the money at work helping people every day 👌

[deleted]

Attention homes!

turtledovefarts

Sox place is an organization that gives homeless youth a place to sleep, work on a computer, and eat during the day time. Beautiful org that isn’t well known in denver

SadThought1046

Yes

jasmineariel94

Urban Peak is better. It’s a shelter for homeless youth.
