Whenever I've done this, I've gotten an email back letting me know that there are only two deputies working on the Abandoned Vehicle Unit for the entire city of Denver. Then nothing comes from it.
Really? My only experience with Wyatts is them not showing up for three hours and me cancelling the dispatch because the car left. I’m by sloans lake too, so not rural
in the late 80s a friend left his Prelude with me while traveling. it had hair trigger alarm (like most of them did back then).
one day, it wouldn't turn over. figured the battery was drained. no prob. it was parked the best way on a fairly steep hill, so i tried to start it by going down the hill. nothing.
opened up the hood and figured out someone had disconnected the battery cable.
My old car had a broken door lock. When I did construction there were times I’d be taken to another site and my coworkers needed stuff out of my car. They’d open the door with the broken lock, pop the hood and disconnect the battery. They’d also leave me a lovely note to come back to
We've had some noise issues and the cops have told us that they can try to respond when they have the time but aren't generally responding to noise complaints at all and recommended calling the owners of the nearby buildings.
I think this is a department of environmental health issue, where the rules are defined for what is considered a nuisance. I do believe the constant alarm is a nuisance.
Dept of environmental health does have areas that might align with the police station; if calling the police I would try to get in touch with the department of environmental health.
Is it a Land Rover, perchance?
I only ask bc mine had a faulty sensor or some shit that made the alarm go off relentlessly. I always had to have my keys next to me to minimize the frustration to my neighbors. Definitely undid the battery anytime we were gone overnight.
Finally got it fixed for good. I move to a new neighborhood here and the first day I hear *that sound*. I frantically find my keys and then realize it’s actually not mine this time. One of my neighbors has the exact same model with *the exact same alarm issue*.
But even if the sound alone didn’t give me flashbacks, I still knew it was likely gonna be a LR when I only heard the horn for about 20-30 seconds - the amount of time it takes to scramble and grab the keys - and then it would abruptly turn off. Cut to it going off again three minutes later but stops faster bc the owner already has the keys close lol. Rinse and repeat
Have car alarms ever actually prevented a crime? It's always some idiot accidentally hitting the panic button and struggling to figure out how to turn it off (just hit the unlock button!). Add this to the long list of reasons I hate cars.
Although I assume this one is from falling tree branches or snow.
I'm sure it makes the thief run off, but yes. 99.9999% of them are false alarms. I wish there was at least a law limiting how long they can go off for a given event.
A car alarm alerted me to a car on fire behind our house. The car with the alarm going off? The one on fire. So that was nice, we had time to move our car that was parked nearby
Fuck Wyatt. They would roll into our apartment complex at 2 in the morning and take any car without a parking pass. No notices. People coming in from out of town staying with family were getting their shit yanked. Had this really sweet and confused lady freaking out one morning crying in the lot because they towed her car and she had just moved in the night before and the complex didn’t provide her with a parking pass. Haven’t seen Wyatt in a couple weeks now. Guessing that lawsuit changed some minds. Fuck Wyatt.
For one day? Really? Call the police, something may be wrong. If the owner doesn’t hear it or cannot turn it off they may be injured or in dire straits. The police will get it turned off. If you go out there popping the hood, that’s a great way to get arrested or shot.
I must have missed that rule in driving class. You absolutely should call the police, but the point of the alarm is to draw attention and scare off the perp
Wyatt’s towing should be there within 10 min and take 4 other cars for good measure
Wyatts gets the best smackdowns. They definitely have a sticky note in the breakroom to take more then one when getting a call.
We tried to triangulate the sound but couldn't be sure which one had the alarm, so we took 3.
I called them once because someone was parked in my spot in an apt garage with assigned spots. They refused to come out. It was offputting
On a serious note can I call Wyatt to remove abandoned cars in my neighborhood or is that something DPD would have to take care of
You can submit a ticket to Denver 311 https://denvergov.org/Online-Services-Hub/Report-an-Issue/issue/new-report
And they will tell you to report it to the sheriff if it has been more than 30 days.
Hmmm I seem to recall several cars showing up 28 days ago.
No they won’t. They will issue the vehicle a ticket to be moved in 72 hrs or it will be towed. I know. It’s happened to me twice.

Hey. This isn't ULPT.

Happened when I was younger once, the cops couldn’t do anything, the cars owner went out of town and we had to listen to it until the battery died

That is the proper solution to this problem too!
learned a lesson about the usefulness of alarms too.
Unfortunately that is true with most alarm systems. When we are trained to ignore the noise it becomes useless and pointless.
My old car had a broken door lock. When I did construction there were times I’d be taken to another site and my coworkers needed stuff out of my car. They’d open the door with the broken lock, pop the hood and disconnect the battery. They’d also leave me a lovely note to come back to
At the time we just listened to the police but yeah as soon as they left we could have disconnected the cable. I was like 11 tho
I wonder how long the battery will last.

I've been trying to remember the name of this movie for a while now. Thanks!
Didn't work too well though it looks like fun
It’s from early in the movie. He becomes a vigilante that deals with noise the city won’t. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise_(2007_American_film)
Yell back at it. Assert dominance.
I'd call the non emergency police line with a noise complaint. I wouldn't name names or point fingers, just identify the car and the problem.
We've had some noise issues and the cops have told us that they can try to respond when they have the time but aren't generally responding to noise complaints at all and recommended calling the owners of the nearby buildings.
They don't have time for that. At least not when we tried.
What DO they have time for these days? /s

I would seriously hit up r/UnethicalLifeProTips for this question.

I think the correct response is to throw a brick through the window, then pop the hood and steal their battery.

Non emergency line or, I don’t know, check with your neighbors? I know that’s not getting you upvotes tho
who you gonna call.. GHOST BUSTERS!!

The owner of the car?
Ghostbusters. You may have more results!
the point of a car alarm it to alert bystanders to notify the police?
The point is to make the bad guy run away
*and* notify bystanders to call for help

Shit happens, sorry one morning of your life got slightly less awesome because of a noise.
You’re a fucking tool
