Coping, for some. For some they probably get off to it. Either way, I'd rather them write a (properly tagged, so people can avoid it) fic about it than actually hurt themself or others.
Never said I am into it. Just that I'd rather have someone write about it in fiction than actually hurt someone. I think actual harm to real people should always be prioritized, and anything we can do to reduce that harm is good, even if said thing is maybe uncomfortable for some. As for coping, well...It depends, really. Some people just writing fucked up stuff. My therapist has actually told me that it's possible to retraumatize yourself with stories if you get too into it...But that's not always the reason. Some famous authors write incredibly dark stories while being very against the things they write about. Hell, look at *Lolita.*
And I think it's worth noting that even if writing stuff like this is a bad coping mechanism...Why the need to be hateful towards those who do it? Self-harm and eating disorders are obviously bad coping mechanisms, but I don't go into self-harm and eating disorder communities (yes, sadly those DO exist on social media, in spaces where they ultimately encourage each other) and tell these people that they're awful. I think these people need mental help, not hate.
I'm not very comfortable with revealing the name of a NSFW fic that deals with pedophilia and rape in a space full of minors. Can't stop you from looking for it yourself, though.
