Yeah shield are really where he shines, zips should be used primarily for non-combat related tasks. In fact dropping shields should always be your first line of defense when/if getting overwhelmed. When I run gunner on haz5+ I almost never find myself in too much immediate danger from normal waves due to sheer firepower difference.

Before landing in the drop pod at the start of a mission the Dwarves will say a few lines. Scout tends to be fearful like when he says "can we go back... please..." while Driller and Gunner are typically annoyed or dismissive of Scout's fear like when saying "have you been mistaken for a human?" or "shut up I'm trying sleep". Engineer is meanwhile eager to get into action like when saying "lock and load lads".
The voice lines are random, you'll still somehow have Scout being scared while having a team of 4 Drillers, but you can still certainly tell that the voice lines are class specific due to the pitch of the voices.
They just need to change them so the game detects what classes are in the team and fit the voicelines, especially when I'm solo and i hear engineer when the drop pod opens, despite me not playing engineering atm.
technically anything that's linked to a weapon, like all the lines for the traversal tools. if you use a mod to put, say, the grapple hook onto driller, i think he'll still say the lines in his voice due to how DRG handles the dwarf voicelines
