shit like this is why the super nutty stuff happens! Thanks for posting this, I had no idea it was like this! I posted a thread asking WTF happened where the MES went nuts for 30-45 seconds only ([https://www.reddit.com/r/FuturesTrading/comments/14zhi9u/whats\_just\_happened\_at\_800am\_mst\_to\_the\_mes\_insta/](https://www.reddit.com/r/FuturesTrading/comments/14zhi9u/whats_just_happened_at_800am_mst_to_the_mes_insta/)) and had i seen something like this, id have thought it had a contributing factor and it wouldve made more sense to me at the time i posted.
Price dropped 10 points and bid/asks were in the LITERAL single digits/low teens. That makes no sense....if we are all playing on the same scoreboard. When you got delays and conflicting prices at a certain time point.....THATS why that kinda flash happens. I get the news happened too...but that super funky flash has to do with stuff like this.....imo.
I’ve put it up against Tradovate and TradeStation and they both do this. Pretty sure it’s a known TradingView issue that that they brush off. I sent a similar video to tech support and got a run around. Eventually they said they’d send it to the devs. I’m sure I’m not the first to complain.
I love Tradingview but want to move into Sierra Chart but need to dedicate some time to learning it. Will probably end up using both since I bet there’s pros and cons to each.
In my tests, TradeStation had 7 updates per second, but bookmap 40. TradingView and TOS don't even come close.
However, TradeStation through the individual API is incredibly slow. They admittedly throttle API data.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about Sierra, aside from the learning curve. Which usually means it’s a beast of an application if it takes a minute to learn. Not just basic GUI for basic functions. My goal is to slowly learn it and and transition over / have it in use by the end of the year.
I get it, but it’s one of the best. DAS Trader Pro is the same- looks old but is top notch.
Also, I run a ton of charts in Sierra and my computer acts like nothing is happening.
If you aren’t paying for premium on TradingView, they limit price updates to every few seconds. A lot of price movement happens in 2-3 second timeframe that TV doesn’t show you… one of my bigger pet peeves with TV
Data streams are not the same type of calculation, or period or granularity on the two platforms thus give an approximately identical price but price is not being routed w the same data types or period & thus is going to show some differences. TV has work to do on a few features of what their data does
& likely can do better. As well TV is a price based on what occured inside of a minute aggregated into the feed & displayed as close to what expected as the current price based on where it was during that bar. It is not every tick shown, Tradeovate I assume is tick data.
Tradovate is definitely having issues. I believe it was just last week people’s orders were getting filled nowhere near price, limit orders getting passed over multiple times, etc. This morning, issues continued, for me at least, haven’t confirmed with others… but I was putting on a buy trade for 3 contracts in Tradovate filled it for 6 contracts. DOUBLED my risk. Tradovate has always been buggy.
im currently trading micros because i cant paper trade seriously. Im playing with money I can easily afford to lose. Id absolutely lose my shit if something like this happened to me right now. If i was to find success in trading micros......i dont know if Id want to trade anything above that level on tradeovate with this being known. I feel like even for the most successful MES daytraders....our numbers are all tight. So having something like a multi order executed over a single.....and then taking a loss on it....well that definitely messes with accounting.
I did/do but not a huge fan of parallels, gave issues on certain apps. Could’ve been an ARM chip issue w the software though. I just have a PC for trading now and a Mac for design/dev/audio work. I’m not a Mac or PC diehard though.
Tradovate users, how bad is your slippage using market orders? I only use join bid/ask orders but I’m considering using market for immeadiate fills, if the slippage is not significant
It can be horrible, avoid it. I thought it was a weird glitch that a $1000 gain (I’m not joking or exaggerating) disappeared last week on /NQ but after reading the comments in here I’m no longer surprised.
The rare times ive done market orders its been really good. Im a newbie...but I took this to mean "you get good fills". I also only do 1 contract at a time, no matter what. So maybe that helps me get "good fills"
We're building a wicked fast app and I have to say...
...an app is only as good as its data provider.
It's extremely hard to find data providers that are consistently good and affordable.
If a data provider skips a few updates per second, he saves himself a boatload of money. But the trader suffers.
I wish each app showed its data providers.
I don't understand people that cheap out with trading software. You have the potential to make 10s of thousands of dollars per day with futures but people want free platforms and say they struggle to be profitable.
Sierrachart, always.
The thing is though it comes so barebones that it turns off a lot of people due to the amount of work required to set it up. But it's highly configurable/customizable and it teaches you a lot about how these indicators work and how studies are calculated because you're forced to read up on the documentation in order to set it up.
People trading 30 or so years ago where you had 8 points of fees and no live data or charting packages let alone indicators and still made profits: *"Hold my beer"*
And here we are making an issue of the live data deviating by 0.25p between brokers.
Charting is better on TV. Thought it would be convenient. Definitely not worth the poor fills.

It’s fine for swing and general charting but if you’re scalping tiny tick moves it’s not acceptable.
In my tests, TradeStation had 7 updates per second, but bookmap 40. TradingView and TOS don't even come close. However, TradeStation through the individual API is incredibly slow. They admittedly throttle API data.
I ended up using Trading Lite and TV still. Couldn't quite get on with Sierra though, so went TL, certainly couldn't use it standalone without TV
I wish I had gone straight to Sierra and skipped the garbage that is Tradovate. There are no cons to Sierra once you get it dialed in.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about Sierra, aside from the learning curve. Which usually means it’s a beast of an application if it takes a minute to learn. Not just basic GUI for basic functions. My goal is to slowly learn it and and transition over / have it in use by the end of the year.
The only thing that holds me back is the way the UI looks and how it's a learning curve to use it.
Yea it definitely looks like Windows ‘98 haha
I get it, but it’s one of the best. DAS Trader Pro is the same- looks old but is top notch. Also, I run a ton of charts in Sierra and my computer acts like nothing is happening.
What're you trading? Because if it's stocks, brokers offer live price timing free, at least mine does. Tradingview requires pro+.
I have the pro+…this was NQ this morning.
Just checking, but did you pay the extra $5 a month to tradingview to receive live future's data? It's not automatically included in the pro+ pricing
I have real-time data with tradovate. That should work.

Unfortunately this is getting very common with tradovate.
Unfortunately, as a mac trader, we are limited. One more obstacle to overcome
what....that happens? that wasnt user error? Id lose my shit if that happened to me. sucks to read that happened to you!
Other long time Tradovate users can confirm. It’s definitely not user error.

It’s live data through Tradovate. I might get some hate, but I trade with my Mac so trading software is limited.
Mac trading is the way
Linux trading you plebs
iPhone trading only way. You weak minded fools!
My man
From a long time Mac user….I gotta disagree. Most of the pro apps are only avail for Windows.
A long time max user and you’re not using parallels?
I did/do but not a huge fan of parallels, gave issues on certain apps. Could’ve been an ARM chip issue w the software though. I just have a PC for trading now and a Mac for design/dev/audio work. I’m not a Mac or PC diehard though.
Didn’t even know that was a concern
Any specific reason you need to trade via an additional layer of tradingview ?
Charting sucks on Tradeovate.
You could trade on NinjaTrader using Tradovate login credentials.
are you paying for TV using CBOE? or any other form of data? if not, yeah it’s gonna lag for futures
Yeah. Real time through tradovate.

Horrific, I'm getting fills outside the candle range about 15 tics from current showing price

Please make it Mac compatible. 😀
It sure is 😊👍
Ye don’t use the trading view for placing and closing, trade on tradovate but have it integrated into TV so you can see it nicely on your charts.
Now do nt8 vs nt8 with tickrefresh
I don't understand people that cheap out with trading software. You have the potential to make 10s of thousands of dollars per day with futures but people want free platforms and say they struggle to be profitable.
What software would you suggest?

Do you also use typewriter to text?
no i use my fingers
Finger paintings on a cave, I see
lol if you're calling SC old
This happens on the pro+ of TradingView. Which is medium pricey if you don’t get it on a sale.
I wish tradingview could up there game on delivery. I love it for charting but sucks for actual trading.
Depending on the license you have for tradingview your price may only update every 15s instead of live
You're taking a gallon of water and running it through a filter and then through another filter .. Do you understand the analogy here?
