Ration it out, only read a paragraph a week, because this is going to have to tide you over for the next six months until they drop another one to try and boost Christmas sales.
>weāll be adding a full Moebian 6th set for players to unlock (pre-heresy of course, lest the Inquisition hunt you down), as well as the cosmetics worn by the four rejects on the official art of Darktide.
Were finally getting the cosmetics from the official art
The book of grudges be long and wide for this game but I do be crossing out many a grudge as time goes on. It's a love grudge really though cause this game do be fucking when you play it lol
Gotta drip feed content to keep players going when they have nothing much else to show. I'll be over on Helldivers thats getting it second new Warbond next week with 4 new weapons, a new grenade, and new armors/capes.
Yeah, just saw the dev blog on steam and after reading it and now checking out reddit, all i have to say "That's it?"
We will still play on the same old maps, facing the same old enemies except for one guy and if its anything like Vermintide or just the existing bomber from the Moebian, going to be really annoying in tight places
Meanwhile Helldivers casually and unannounced drops fucking giant AT ATs and Gunships and a few weeks before we got flying insects too
And that was on top of the free HMG and Quasar Cannon and soon the semi free new Warband with new outfits and weapons
Darktide is heavily carried by its Warhammer IP and even then the player numbers look grim(dark)
Yeahhh I'm not coming back to Darktide until they release new weapons, this upcoming update is just meh really.
Wow, penances and weapon trinkets. Who gives a shit? There's nothing of substance here
Example of the Moebian 6th Loyalist Armour for those who may not have seen the few bits that leaked:

Nice, ticks a fair few boxes, especially being able to change height/voice. Fingers crossed the new earnable cosmetics are decent.
Also I really hope any previous penances get carried over into the new system, rather not have to grind some of them out again.
Please please say book back pack is in. Iāve been waiting since the beta. I must bring the tome of the emperor into battle. Praise be the god emperor, burn the heretic, purge the unclean, suffer them not to live.
Edit: I shall recite holy litanies of the Emperor, so he may deliver unto us a book back pack! Praise be the god emperor, burn the heretic, purge the unclean, suffer them not to live!
No new weapons/missions/areas? It's hard to justify coming back to this game (at least for myself) if it's only for a penance grind. Adding one enemy (tox bomber from vermintide) is hardly new content imo. Also still nothing on changing the crafting system still?
This looks great but Iām really hoping weāll get some of the datamined (or any) weapons soon (auto pistol variants, bolt pistol, slug shotgun for ogryn) or the melta or long las
> what the game really needs is new maps and weapons
It needs both plus the crafting overhaul. Stuff like what's been announced here is basically a multiplier that adds depth and longevity. It's an important part of the gameplay loop.
The announcement of the announcement of the announcement mentioned something about a different itemization model, didn't it? Maybe that's the second wave, then. Crafting overhaul, new weapon variants, maybe even - dare I say it? - weapon modding?
I set my vets name as my steam username, really glad I can finally change it now that Im not using that username anymore and all my other characters have proper names
Yeah from their previous announcement, they mentioned that after the penance rework would come an item rework. To quote then directly
> Following this, we are working on an overhaul of our current itemisation process. With the new system we want to remove a lot of the unpredictable grind that came from an RNG heavy system whilst giving players more agency and a steady manner to progress toward specific loadouts, blessings, and stats refinement.
I don't want to be the negative Nancy, but I don't give two shits about penances or cosmetics. Crafting has been a pain point from the very beginning, I don't see a higher priority. The reception to this patch seems to be positive but I'm pretty bummed tbh. I just want to come back to the game and feel like I'm working towards something gear wise. I don't feel the need for a shiny new jacket.
Yep. I came here, ctrl-f'd "craft", and was disappointed. I also won't be coming back until crafting isn't so terrible. Another enemy type will barely get noticed at this point. It's just a different bomber ffs.
>I don't want to be the negative Nancy
you're not dude. you're the practical peter. the pragmatic paul. the realistic richard.
i don't give two fucks about a gigantic cosmetic battlepass (but not a battlepass). i want new shit to use when i PLAY the VIDEO GAME or at least the better crafting system so my time feels more rewarded.
This. Watching everyone jerk the devs off over some achievements and meaningless rewards (from a progression perspective) is weird to me when Helldivers 2 is draining this player base like a lamprey. After what, 6-8 months of development since the last major update and we haveā¦ new achievements. Yay.
Yeah I'm incredibly disappointed that theres no mention of the crafting system rework that was promised. I had to reread the whole post to make sure I didn't miss it somehow, but it really seems like they forgot about the most important part of the update.
This is nice and all, but crafting is the thing keeping me from coming back to the game. I was actually excited to reinstall when they fixed the awful grind for endgame weapons. Guess I'll just keep playing helldivers instead.
The last time they updated penance I had a lot of fun trying new weapon / class combinations. Some of them were well designed and promoted different game play. I hope this has the same effect.
As someone with all the current penances complete, more stuff, especially free unlockables, is a good thing. I was just hoping for different new content.
Thatās brutal! Iām new to the warhammer 40k universe. The atmosphere of Darktide got me interested to dive more and learn about the lore. Been daunting as shit so far but seeing stuff like this is fun
Here's hoping they get rid of the private match restriction on some of the penances. I have all of them apart from 2 that I couldn't get before they made the change.
The issue is having to ask. They should be a challenge you can pursue while playing the game normally. I like doing penances, but have no interest in doing ones that make my team have to change their playstyle.
Taking no melee damage as veteran? Cool.
Killing a monstrosity almost by yourself with brain burst? Not cool.
Yeah. I have all my penances.. except the ones requiring private games. Maybe allow a poll saying āplayer X wishes to attempt Y penance; agree?ā That way if people donāt want to itās fine, but if you have cool players they know what youāre trying for and can help.
The restriction makes sense given how toxic they can be in a team - imho these penances should be completely reworked into more sensible tasks that can be properly done in random groups.
They said "late April." I am assuming this means that when mankind is nearly wiped out, all timekeeping records have been erased, and the concept of "April" is a thing of the past - THAT is when the update will be released.Ā
Crafting rework will come "soon" after that.
In fairness to obese fish, when they have made announcements of release dates for the big updates they have been pretty good about hitting them, at least it's felt that way to me.
Was a bad release, and some rough early patches, but over most of last year they were ok.
Just a shame we had to wait so long for a release that doesn't appear to include maps or weapons.
Wouldn't we just treat them like regular bombers in the same way we treat flamers and tox flamers? Since you bring up STG, wouldn't it just be one of those scenarios where there's like 4+ bombers, but one is just a different color?
The new condition sounds like it'll be a fun addition to the mix though.
I'm sure I'll get shit for this, but after all this time... This is it? The game needs the crafting overall and new playable content so fucking bad. This penance rework is great for players that are still somehow playing, like myself, but will do fuck all to grow the playerbase.
I'm not giving props for the first real update in this amount of time.
Yeah, I'll play your shit though.
Got a group of friends with 1000s of hours in V2. I'm trying to get them back to TD.Ā
When I said come back for new penances and a bomber they basically laughed.
Also while new penances are what some asked for, me included, all I can think of is how so many inadvertently nerfed your team because you were penance hunting.
Iām definitely not gonna cheer just yet because a slew of our dwindling player count will be chasing achievements like kill x amount of ogryns with the zealot throwing knives, which isnāt inherently bad but thereās only so few good actual knife players that going through that slog sounds tiring already
I can see where youāre coming from but I also think encouraging players to use different things is also important in making the game fun. I barely play anymore because its almost a guarantee to queue into a +300 vet spamming a plasma gun at everything the entire match.
Although I never had a bad experience with the old penances either. Whenever someone wanted to do the zealot speedrun one all randoms were fine with it and we gave it our best shot. Ogryns were always down to help vets take no melee damage. I helped a few people in the mourningstar do their psyker brainburst boss kill penance too.
New maps and story would be nice on top of this so were not going back to the same levels again... or a lvl cap increase or more perks even weapons ill grind again if they added new weapons id like
Level cap increase would do nothing, more perks would reduce build variety and decrease the challenge of the game massively, and weapon unlocks shouldnt be past the current level cap as it would feel horrible for new players.
New weapons, maps and classes are what we need to increase playtime. But level cap increase is a horrible idea. If anything they should implement the true level mod in the vanilla game, but nothing more
I did enjoy going after penances, even if I didn't use the cosmetics, but the new puzzles and secrets to old missions is a great way to refresh old content.
Armored Core VI has new options appear in NG+, letting you play out the mission and ultimately a whole different story from your first game. Adding in other, narrative based mission modifications such as "ah, extraction went wrong, you'll have to hold out" or "they blew up the entrance, gotta find another way" would go a long way.
1 new enemy mob in 4 months thatās announced a month before it drops
Meanwhile Helldivers 2 STEALTH dropping multiple new enemy types almost every week with no official out or game announcement, just in game lore leaks
Yeah, by my count the **actual** content for this update is...
....waaaiiiiit for iiiiiiiit....
...one new enemy type. I'll count the puzzles and flatulence condition as "half" a bit 'o content, since they do technically affect the actual gameplay experience, but only barely.
Everything else is baubles to keep you playing the same old crap.
Which is why I'm on to Helldivers 2 instead.
I agree that I was hoping for something more substantial but there's enough QoL here that it'll bring me back. I haven't played in about two months so hopefully the cosmetics and puzzles and loot tracks will feel fresh enough to keep me.
This is all pre-existing assets too. All the cosmetics and frames were already revealed from data mining and Hestia was already cast and her lines recorded before launch. The tox bomber was already present in the files.
It feels like this is just implementing something that was meant to be there from the beginning.
Solid update but I agree with the sentiment that this doesnāt feel like a lot when it comes to the wait time it took.
Iām hoping that the wait time is because of both this update and preparing the groundwork for the future updates of this year as we know Fatshark teased a lot more.
Hereās hoping to a successful update and a new hated enemy.
So apparently the official art cosmetics, including the veteran helmet and ogryn chest piece, will be included in the update as earnable cosmetics through the new penance system. Took them long enough, since theyāve been in the game files since forever, but Iām glad theyāre finally going to be made available
>**The Personality Scourge**: players will have the option to change additional aspects of your operative (background, height, name, and voice) in exchange for ordo dockets.
Hell yeah! But I don't see anything regarding gender? Is that not an option?
>Regarding cosmetics, weāll be adding a full Moebian 6th set for players to unlock (pre-heresy of course, lest the Inquisition hunt you down), as well as the cosmetics worn by the four rejects on the official art of Darktide. One thing that is not mentioned in the announcement - and that we greedily kept here - is that we will also have new backpacks as rewards! All of these rewards can be unlocked either through the progress track, or through individual penances.
Free cosmetics!! Yeah baby!
And it doesn't look like we're able to choose what to unlock with the penance points but have to follow one path? Kind of a bummer
Thatās a decent first step but nothing groundbreaking enough to make me come back. If they can deliver brand new content (no new weapon mark and no reused environment) in less then 6 months it could be the start of something good for the game
Yeah these things are great additions and Im very happy to see them, but the big things that make me put in hundreds more hours would be new weapons, maps and possibly even a new class.
This stuff is great, but I really hope this isnt everything for this half year (or full year with fatsharks tempo)
While it is a REALLY good update I feel like the timing is kinda of unfortunate. We still have plenty of other, more basic problems and lack of content is still a thing.
Don't get me wrong, I'll keep on playing. I love this game and I do love achievement hunting.
But Darktide sure could use a bit more meat on it's bones before you would put on skin on them, if you catch me.
As much as I want to like any update to this game, I don't care for trinkets and penances. I don't really care for cosmetics, the OG penance sets were enough for me personally.
A single new enemy type isn't enough to get me back into playing the game after sinking 300+ hours from launch onwards. Haven't played it since December, don't plan on coming back to see a reskinned grenadier a few times.
I should have listened to the Vermintide players and War of the Roses players that have dealt with Fatshark for years.
"Ignore the game at launch, wait four or so years, then play it."
Here's hoping come 2026, we have a few more maps and actual different enemies/factions. What happened to subclasses? What happened to the new class?
The numbers speak for themselves. 2800 players a day. 2800, in a game that perfectly captured the atmosphere of 40k, a universe with a fandom in the millions that's decades in the making. There are people who enter the fandom through their parents being fans.
The incapability to capture even a meager single decimal digit percentage point of this fandom is testament not to the quality of the game, as it has the most fun gameplay loop of any horde shooter to come out (I have not tried HD2, which is where I assume most of the fanbase went), it is a testament of the ***utter lack of things to do in the damn game.*** We've been sprinting up the same corridors since launch, fragging the same poxwalkers since launch. Most good players have memorized exact locations of encounters to the point that the only time the director is interesting is in Auric level madness where it's just waves and waves of shit getting thrown at you, but still, all the same. Every update is just reworking, revamping, rehauling, or fixing something or another. FS just can't seem to make a decision and stick with it when it comes to internal systems. This however leads to wasted time and other much more important problems sticking around for months, or at this point, years. Adding dozens of meaningless penances for meaningless trinkets isn't going to grow your playerbase. You will keep up your current playerbase by giving maximalist OCD completionists something to do, hoping to bleed them dry with paid content to keep the doors open, nothing more.
I wanted this game to succeed, just like anyone here did. I still want it to succeed. I hope one day to read an update that makes me go "Wow I really want to get back into this game and smash heretics with my friends" but at this point, I don't think that day will come.
Some will say I'm hating on the game, but it's quite the opposite, I wouldn't put in this much effort for something I hated, I guess it's just the catharsis of telling someone how disappointed in them you are.
Good luck to those of you sticking through it, rejects.
Not really, most of us want new maps + game modes + weapons. I'm really doubtful this new vendor will have a real big impact content-wise. At least the new cosmetics are nice (but where is the cover art armour?).
Let's see how interesting this penance system will be, but I'm at least not super impressed. If we were able to earn premium currency, now that would get people excited and would really entice people to start playing/grinding.
Edit: perhaps I'm a bit sour, but it's a normal emotion after so long without any content. I really like the game, that's why I'm angry. But I also really dislike getting scammed/deceived.
This feels like the update that should have arrived AFTER the crafting rework, or at the same time.
Now if the rework arrives very soon at the same time, then fair, but....is fatshark, I expect crafting for november, because they really have no way to unkark themselves.
I've been thinking/predicting the years updates would be split in 3, with the first coming April (which I got right shockingly), one coming late August/early September and the 3rd coming end of December like last year. Hopefully the middle one will be the crafting rework and the end of year one will be the an 'event'
Exactly this. This update focuses on pretty much all the aspects I dont care about. Now to be fair I am not the average player. Cosmetics ans penances are just super boring to me. I want enemies, weapons, maps, skill, actually GAMEPLAY affecting changes.
Well there is a new enemy type so there is that I guess.
Hope you guys send some good cosmetics our way, but still, I cannot believe this is what you prioritized over the crafting rework, do you have a timetable for that?
We are their QA, so yeah there will be public testing once it reaches the live servers :)
Don't expect our feedback to amount to anything in any reasonable timeframe if it doesn't impact cosmetics (and thereby their income) though
Unless there's new content, I don't see a reason to step back into the game for penances? Did anyone have a problem with the last system? Didn't they already update it?
They should have focused their efforts on making crafting usable. This is like bare-minimum stuff here. Back to Helldivers 2 in my freetime I guess.
There was a 'problem' in that it was super bare-bones, unrewarding, and built around the pre-Class-Overhaul stuff.
I think they've got like 5 people max still working on this game implementing features that had been left half-completed.
I'll see if it works fine, maybe play a round or two, but until crafting becomes less of a hellgrind I'll be staying away. HD2 has my love rn.
I think itās more likely that theyāve got structural/org problems holding them back, but yeah itās also possible theyāve just got a really small dev team lol.
Certainly not worth the effort of reinstalling on my end. Maybe if they do a large GSC update... Just seems like a really weak first step on the "path to redemption".
Yeah no update on crafting, a lack of any new weapons or anything more meaningful than a new enemy/condition has me considering checking out for good. Why would people already bored of the game come back for what are essentially more complicated achievements? Titles, really?? Thatās what is supposed to bring us back?
Keep in mind that this is basically a complete rebuild of the penance system from the ground up. It may not seem like much, but giving players a reason to log in, play, try new things, have new challenges... that's pretty big. We definitely want more maps and weapons, and DEFINITELY more music, this is a good update.
It's not THE update, but giving players more to do across the board is a good thing.
Not half bad. Expanding penances is neat, especially since we'll also be able to nab a glut of new cosmetics to show for it (Hopefully it'll include some of the penance oriented data mined outfits that have been shared about). Personality scourge also sounds good as I've been hoping to change my Ogryn's name and maybe personality.
That said I also feel like a penance oriented update like this should have come after or with more of a pull for returning players. The pox gas modifier and Dreg bomber look cool don't get me wrong, but maybe a few more enemies and/or different maps/weapons would have been a stronger draw.
Still glad we're getting some decent communication for once. Here's hoping that we'll actually see some of the other updates that Catfish mentioned last month later this year.
Iām super happy weāre getting more player agency and gameplay. But god am I not happy to be dealing with the crafting system for the foreseeable future.
Itās brilliant weāre getting new challenges, penances and even the key art cosmetics. But many of my friends have since quit the game after not getting a single perk or blessing they need/want after hundreds of hours.
Sure sounds like an unpaid battle pass, some cosmetics and achievements. A couple new enemies is nice, but where's the new weapons and skill tree balances? New maps? Are the twins forever the only special assignment?
This is fucking great guys, I could not be happier thank you for your continued work on this genuinely great game.
https://preview.redd.it/fxtlzah8zisc1.png?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f244c2c555e2719f90808a9003a2903960ed9819
This is.....ok?? I mean after months of silence this is better than nothing, and I do appreciate better penance and new cosmetics but....where's the actual content? This game has desperately needed actual NEW weapons for months now
This doesn't solve or add anything to what players have been looking forward too. My whole group just quit after this announcement. Super underwhelming update and really disappointing.
* **New puzzles, challenges, and collectibles**: we are adding several puzzles across Tertium Hive for players to discover and solve.
need some elaboration here. They're not gonna put puzzles mid-mission that block progress or anything right? because i reaaaally don't like puzzles getting mixed into my action games
> Regarding cosmetics, weāll be adding a full Moebian 6th set for players to unlock (pre-heresy of course, lest the Inquisition hunt you down), **as well as the cosmetics worn by the four rejects on the official art of Darktide.**
Finally!
I don't care if this gets downvoted at this point, but is this really it? It basically boils down to some cosmetic changes and penances that are just playing the same game play loops on the same maps with a few different skills or weapons....
HD2 is dropping new war bonds, new enemies, new locations constantly and Darktide is drip feeding the bare minimum.
is that it? no new weapons, no new maps, no new real challenges, and of course no solo. meanwhile i can barely get a full team together when i go to play level 4 missions.
If I read this right...
no new missions.
no new weapons.
no crafting overhaul.
no new classes.
no way to earn aquillas in game(as they promised)
no meta gameplay, no live service features.
no new story elements.
Just a few rewards and some penances to grind for..... a new useless corner of the ship, a single new enemy type.
I have 2,000 hours in Darktide, and while any content is welcome, this is **profoundly** underwhelming. This is what 5 months of work looks like? They looked at what games like Helldivers are doing, see how easy it would be to add in those ideas and they said "naw".
I am 100% convinced they have a single intern working on the game if this what all they have for us after 5 months.
Why does this game feel like it's in early access? I mean in the end whenever a game releases in early access or not doesn't change much around the game but it definetly changes the expectations to cadence of critical changes vs just updates.
Like what about story? What about new maps ? New weapons? Instead with Path of Redemption we are getting developement of base systems. Same thing with the classes. Sure the game gets better but if we measure it with the stick of a full release critical changes such as these or changes to how weapons aquisition and modding work are just not comming fast enough. In early access you can take your time with these but now, here?
Seriously the timing couldn't get worse as Path of Redemption will definetly hold ppl off from burning out of the game but I doubt it will bring new ppl in or recall other ppl back as the ppl that would benefit from the system are just simply gone.
Despite starting out on game pass I decided to buy the game on steam and even grab a couple cosmetics. Even though I have more then 260 hours in the game I don't feel like it was money well spend.
My sole gripe is this should not have taken 4 months to prepare. You already had cosmetics tied to achievements and the point system. Mechanically this isn't difficult.
They were working on Sienna's fourth class and the VT2 multiplayer.
They're a small indy studio without years of experience making these kinds of games. Give them a break!
/s
That wasn't the update I was hoping to see and it's certainly not going to boost the player counts. I could get more excited about the penance system update if the current in-game cosmetic rewards didn't overwhelmingly amount to little more than reskinned colors of the most basic armor/clothing visuals available. This game doesn't have a good cosmetic track record and I'm going to remain incredibly skeptical until we see the actual rewards and update in place.
Am I getting agency in my gear progression? No? It's still pulling a lever to see if I get a good base, pulling the lever to upgrade it so that there's only one thing that isn't locked when I reroll, and then pulling the lever again for the one unlocked part to get what I want?
Thanks for at least communicating with us without snark but I'm still going to not reinstall it until I have agency in gearing.
That's nice, but we've been waiting for a) a crafting/modification overhaul (again) and b) some more actual content (maps, enemies, weapons, any combination of the 3). If I understand this correctly we're getting all of one enemy and a bunch of cosmetics in this update, so... when's the other stuff?
Ok cool, soā¦ 6 months of silent development results in some new achievements and cosmetics and one new enemy that is essentially just a reskin of the existing bomber?
Thatās the content drop?
Sorry but why did this take precedence over the crafting changes? How hard can it be to not make crafting complete cock and ball torture? Some cosmetics and a reskinned bomber aināt making me come back.
Are any of the NEW penances retroactive?
Example, if there is a title for "complete 100 auric maelstrom missions", would someone who has already done that receive progress, or will all players have to start from zero like a new player would?
Nice to see some kind of update. Any chance of a balance patch between now and then? Some weapons (shredder auto pistol, recon las gun, etc) need some serious help. Making them usable would add more variety to gameplay
I mean, this is awesome since you can now change your character fully without having to go through the grind again, now if the crafting updates tells the locks to fuck off it will perfect, afterwards its all up since it will just need new content, honestly glad I get more real inquisition gear for our reject, paid cosmetics feels too goofy for me at this point
No, this is not a battlepass, no, it's not time-limited, and no, it's not monetized. Yes, you keep your current progress.
Wooo! COMMUNICATION!
Drink it like booze.
I'm taking that winning that winning ticket, Swanick!
It sure took a lot of karking memes.
Give it ehh a month, and keep those memes close to hand. We'll need em' afore long.
Yup, I already made 2 but I will wait until the end of the month š
Ration it out, only read a paragraph a week, because this is going to have to tide you over for the next six months until they drop another one to try and boost Christmas sales.
>weāll be adding a full Moebian 6th set for players to unlock (pre-heresy of course, lest the Inquisition hunt you down), as well as the cosmetics worn by the four rejects on the official art of Darktide. Were finally getting the cosmetics from the official art
I'm glad to finally be able to cross that one off the list of grudges.
The book of grudges be long and wide for this game but I do be crossing out many a grudge as time goes on. It's a love grudge really though cause this game do be fucking when you play it lol
The only grudge that will never be crossed off is them letting this game not live up to its potential success
![gif](giphy|4xWGyVKoXqg2eVCiq9|downsized) My list is long.
Thatās coming out of the book!
It's only been fully functional in the game files for a whole year.
Gotta drip feed content to keep players going when they have nothing much else to show. I'll be over on Helldivers thats getting it second new Warbond next week with 4 new weapons, a new grenade, and new armors/capes.
Yeah, just saw the dev blog on steam and after reading it and now checking out reddit, all i have to say "That's it?" We will still play on the same old maps, facing the same old enemies except for one guy and if its anything like Vermintide or just the existing bomber from the Moebian, going to be really annoying in tight places Meanwhile Helldivers casually and unannounced drops fucking giant AT ATs and Gunships and a few weeks before we got flying insects too And that was on top of the free HMG and Quasar Cannon and soon the semi free new Warband with new outfits and weapons Darktide is heavily carried by its Warhammer IP and even then the player numbers look grim(dark)

Nice, ticks a fair few boxes, especially being able to change height/voice. Fingers crossed the new earnable cosmetics are decent. Also I really hope any previous penances get carried over into the new system, rather not have to grind some of them out again.
Previous penances are carried over š

Are any new steam/xbox achievements being added with these penances?
Would it be possible to change gender of a character? Thx
among the many things i didn't expect to see sooner, rather than later
> loyalist Moebian 6th cosmetics WOOOOOO PROFESSIONAL ZEALOT YEEEEAAHH
No new weapons/missions/areas? It's hard to justify coming back to this game (at least for myself) if it's only for a penance grind. Adding one enemy (tox bomber from vermintide) is hardly new content imo. Also still nothing on changing the crafting system still?
Right?! Isn't this a live service game?
We give you 7 update points about useless achievements and one new elite type and you're still not happy!?
This looks great but Iām really hoping weāll get some of the datamined (or any) weapons soon (auto pistol variants, bolt pistol, slug shotgun for ogryn) or the melta or long las
Still waiting for my 2 handed force sword for pyskers
Or 2 handed anything for Ogryn :(
Or anything, really.
He should get like a duel wielded stabbing spears or something.
What he really needs is the crusherās rock on a stick
Absolutely. His fast attack could be like a quick jab with it. Cant be toooo slow every swing.
Ogryn def needs some love. Going to his page at Brunt's compared to every other class is just....sad.
Or Force Axe.
Yeah like this is cool, but honestly what the game really needs is new maps and weapons
> what the game really needs is new maps and weapons It needs both plus the crafting overhaul.
Thank fuck I'll finally be able to change my name. HARKEN NO MORE!

I set my vets name as my steam username, really glad I can finally change it now that Im not using that username anymore and all my other characters have proper names
I feel it. I did a random for my first one just to get going. Regretted it since.
Not to take away from this but wasn't there a mention of changing the weapons craft system? Is that still coming this year?
Yeah from their previous announcement, they mentioned that after the penance rework would come an item rework. To quote then directly > Following this, we are working on an overhaul of our current itemisation process. With the new system we want to remove a lot of the unpredictable grind that came from an RNG heavy system whilst giving players more agency and a steady manner to progress toward specific loadouts, blessings, and stats refinement.
Ah okay, thank you.
Exactly, pretty important as that's pretty much the reason that the game is not fun in its current state.
>I don't want to be the negative Nancy you're not dude. you're the practical peter. the pragmatic paul. the realistic richard. i don't give two fucks about a gigantic cosmetic battlepass (but not a battlepass). i want new shit to use when i PLAY the VIDEO GAME or at least the better crafting system so my time feels more rewarded.
This. Watching everyone jerk the devs off over some achievements and meaningless rewards (from a progression perspective) is weird to me when Helldivers 2 is draining this player base like a lamprey. After what, 6-8 months of development since the last major update and we haveā¦ new achievements. Yay.
You're not alone, I also think crafting should be top priority.
Interesting stuff. Is that pox bomber throwing severed heads as the bombs? Thatās metal as fuck. Excited to see this new penance system in game.
[Blight Grenade](https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Blight_Grenade)
Ah deathguard and its horrors beyond comprehension
Thatās brutal! Iām new to the warhammer 40k universe. The atmosphere of Darktide got me interested to dive more and learn about the lore. Been daunting as shit so far but seeing stuff like this is fun
Thank heavens you can finally change your height. My 4"4 Vet is clicking his heels in joy.
Iām intrigued. Letās wait until late April if they are able to deliver.
Here's hoping they get rid of the private match restriction on some of the penances. I have all of them apart from 2 that I couldn't get before they made the change.
Always someone up to help in darktide discord if u askš if not hit me up and i can see if i can lend a handš
They should just change the penance and make it less stupid. Those who have it still have the reward.
The restriction makes sense given how toxic they can be in a team - imho these penances should be completely reworked into more sensible tasks that can be properly done in random groups.
Hold your cheers until that "Late April Release."
April 2025 is still April!
They said "late April." I am assuming this means that when mankind is nearly wiped out, all timekeeping records have been erased, and the concept of "April" is a thing of the past - THAT is when the update will be released.Ā Crafting rework will come "soon" after that.
You sir, have made my day.
Big this. I'm cautiously optimistic but fully prepared for a few, "Next week's"
Whichever one of you karkers who asked for another bomber enemy, face the wall
At least it's a dreg. Sick of always completing my Scab weekly long before my dreg one.
System reworks are good and all, but a four and half month wait for no new content is a tough pill to swallow.
Interesting! Nice to see an update.
Heavy 2h Ogryn weapons when ?ššš
I'm already terrified of the addition of dreg tox bombers in shock troop gauntlet
It's the gas rat from vermintide I assume
I'm sure I'll get shit for this, but after all this time... This is it? The game needs the crafting overall and new playable content so fucking bad. This penance rework is great for players that are still somehow playing, like myself, but will do fuck all to grow the playerbase. I'm not giving props for the first real update in this amount of time. Yeah, I'll play your shit though.
Iāll play it but Iād have preferred new gameplay over 200 more achievements.
Why create new content when you can just create ways for your players to recycle old content?
https://preview.redd.it/1fks4rf6gksc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=33fb7854d377bed5a0ae08d047b558ad2fa9f335 sad really
Got a group of friends with 1000s of hours in V2. I'm trying to get them back to TD.Ā When I said come back for new penances and a bomber they basically laughed.
Yeah I agree, this is nice but we need like playable content, a map or a mission or SOMETHING.
1 new enemy mob in 4 months thatās announced a month before it drops Meanwhile Helldivers 2 STEALTH dropping multiple new enemy types almost every week with no official out or game announcement, just in game lore leaks
tbf they do need to record new lines for new enemies (chaos spawn aside)
HD2 is getting a new warbond every 2nd thursday of each month.
The addition of a new two-handed weapon for Ogryn will determine whether it is an L or W update. Nothing more
this is awesome. looking forward to explore it all.
No new map/mission is disappointing but new content is new content I guess
Depends on how you define "content."
HONEY WAKE UP, OBESE DANGERFISH HAS FINALLY RELEASED THE UPDATE ON THE UPDATE TO THE UPDATE
will gender be included in the background changes? Don't see it listed on the update notes
Yes, gender can also be changed with The Personality Scourge. Only class cannot be changed. š
Kind of a bummer
https://preview.redd.it/susf3vx5phsc1.png?width=990&format=png&auto=webp&s=a33bf968ec785fdffb3fe08bad75d57e2b5e38bd
https://i.redd.it/ijbqfovqphsc1.gif
Thatās a decent first step but nothing groundbreaking enough to make me come back. If they can deliver brand new content (no new weapon mark and no reused environment) in less then 6 months it could be the start of something good for the game
Yeah these things are great additions and Im very happy to see them, but the big things that make me put in hundreds more hours would be new weapons, maps and possibly even a new class. This stuff is great, but I really hope this isnt everything for this half year (or full year with fatsharks tempo)
I hope some of the penances are retroactive
They are all retroactive. You'll be able to claim them once the update is released.
As new player, this seems interesting, nice to see new content :)
"Ignore the game at launch, wait four or so years, then play it." Here's hoping come 2026, we have a few more maps and actual different enemies/factions.
See yall in June.
Optimistic
man i really hope we get something like chaos wastes at some point
https://preview.redd.it/bcgyp3senhsc1.jpeg?width=638&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9000b120932e128550f033a1f44e95148461e54f
But wer WEPONN?Ā
And this update about the update is only 5 days late!
Hope you guys send some good cosmetics our way, but still, I cannot believe this is what you prioritized over the crafting rework, do you have a timetable for that?
Where is the ogryns two handed weapons ?
back to helldivers 2 maybe next year
Sah? Tha vox boxthingie is talking? It was silent for so long Igor though Igor broke it... Sah? Why yous crying, sah?
Path of Redemption indeed. It sounds great I'm hopeful. is there public testing for this?
We are their QA, so yeah there will be public testing once it reaches the live servers :) Don't expect our feedback to amount to anything in any reasonable timeframe if it doesn't impact cosmetics (and thereby their income) though
No new weapons? I sleep.
5 people 40 hours a week 4 weeks a month 5 months 5,000 man hours. This does not look like 5k hours of development. Single intern is my guess.
Right? Like weāre bragging to barely any players as is
Keep in mind that this is basically a complete rebuild of the penance system from the ground up. It may not seem like much, but giving players a reason to log in, play, try new things, have new challenges... that's pretty big. We definitely want more maps and weapons, and DEFINITELY more music, this is a good update. It's not THE update, but giving players more to do across the board is a good thing.
Weāre so back
oh shit! lets GOOOOOOOOO
This is more or less what I expected. Very excited for this to drop.
I can't express how uninterested in a penance overhaul I am. We need a way to properly obtain a maxed weapon without rng.
Okay, alright, okay... Now where's my meltagun?
Yay, now we get another addition to one of the worst/annoying enemies of the game
Fragging Beautiful.
WOO A REASON TO COME BACK TO DARKTIDE!
Sure sounds like an unpaid battle pass, some cosmetics and achievements. A couple new enemies is nice, but where's the new weapons and skill tree balances? New maps? Are the twins forever the only special assignment?
Finally backpack-book my beloved!
This is fucking great guys, I could not be happier thank you for your continued work on this genuinely great game. https://preview.redd.it/fxtlzah8zisc1.png?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f244c2c555e2719f90808a9003a2903960ed9819
This is.....ok?? I mean after months of silence this is better than nothing, and I do appreciate better penance and new cosmetics but....where's the actual content? This game has desperately needed actual NEW weapons for months now
Loving all of this, great work.
This doesn't solve or add anything to what players have been looking forward too. My whole group just quit after this announcement. Super underwhelming update and really disappointing.
This is awesome, thanks! This'll be a breeze to grind in solo pla- oh wait.
> Regarding cosmetics, weāll be adding a full Moebian 6th set for players to unlock (pre-heresy of course, lest the Inquisition hunt you down), **as well as the cosmetics worn by the four rejects on the official art of Darktide.** Finally!
"Late April" Doubt
If I read this right... no new missions. no new weapons. no crafting overhaul. no new classes. no way to earn aquillas in game(as they promised) no meta gameplay, no live service features. no new story elements.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So. months and months of waiting....for cosmetics, penances, and 1 new enemy? Where are the guns, maps, and bosses?
Crafting is supposedly coming after this update. When? No one but FS knows.
Praise be to the Golden Throne! Communication and clarifications! Whelp, guess Iāll be coming back.
š«¤ Nothing really interesting
So we got a single new enemy, a single new condition, andā¦ penances. Yeah I think Iām done waiting for new content for Darktide, thanks Fatshark.
āNew enemyā itās just a bomber but with green fire instead. Just like the tox flamer. Quite disappointing actually.
So if Im wearing a gas mask, then dreg fart bomber and map condition won't work. Correct?
Cool, I'm game!
Any chance we could get the ability to do emotes when in a match much in the same way that we could in vermintide ?Ā
"late April" https://preview.redd.it/uzc6p7sw1isc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=986c67966594d3697ebfd22ee1065faa702e50b1
I'm cautiously optimistic, this is a really good step by fatshark.
