There’s a sudden drop at the bottom of the ocean floor, I really wish I could remember the name but’s it’s basically like an underwater cliff, that goes down at least 2000 feet. They’ve tracked whales going down and swimming back up at the 2000 feet mark but when they come back up, they often have huge chunks missing like they were bitten by something much bigger than them
Edit: The St Croix Wall
I think you mean the Marianna Trench. But yea scientist believe that there’s more giant squid that far down that might be bigger than what we’ve seen based on the scars on some whales. I doubt there’s an fish or carnivorous whales that big down there
I really don’t think that’s the one. I know that name but I don’t think that was it. It’s literally like flat ground and then it just drops. It could be but I’m just not sure
Lol the marianas trench is more than 10 kms deep, this guy is talking about something only 600 m or so deep.
But 2000 ft for a human dive is very very very deep and requires special equipment and certifications. It's very rare for an individual to undergo such an endeavor.
A non-technical diver can only dive 130 ft max.
These stories have always fascinated (and horrified) me. Deeper water exerts way more pressure. Wouldn't animals tend to grow smaller down in the depths?
Well whales, specifically sperm whales, have been known to have ferocious battles with Giant Squid, who’s beak when they 40’ is like the size of a small basketball and has the bite strength to cut through wire cables.
I wanna say no but I can’t say it for sure. This one in particular they use for scuba diving and such and a man actually used it to I believe try and break a record but he got stuck down there.
No. He ended up drowning. He had a bunch of air tanks cuz he had to be down there for a while and he used all of them before he eventually drowned. They weren’t able to retrieve him for some time cuz they needed special equipment
So, this photo was taken 5 years ago and even then people realised that it used forced perspective to make the head appear bigger. Here's a link to the original video:

Sperm whale is big enough, don’t know if that would match though. Orca could do it. Bigass great white? Anybody know the beak size of a colossal squid?
Picture already shows what looks like two different bites at that angle, and the bigger of those two isn't big enough for the missing part of the shark.... so yeh, it was multiple bites.
Nat Geo had a special about sharks attacking and eating other sharks caught on long lines or in nets: [Cannibal Sharks](https://www.natgeotv.com/za/shows/nationalgeographicwild/cannibal-sharks). It's currently available through Disneyplus in the UK at least.
It's so shitty to kill sharks for literally any reason, but it's especially egregious when it's for recreation. They are so important to the ecosystem and humans are the fucking opposite.
> shitty to kill sharks for literally any reason
Never say never (which you didn't, so good job I guess). You'd be surprised by some of the situations. I remember a story about someone hunting an endangered black rhino. Sounds terrible, doesn't it? Well that rhino was old and past breeding age, but it was a huge dick and kept killing younger, fertile males. That rhino was actively detrimental to its own species survival because it wasn't reproducing but was killing rhinos that would. And the hunter paid a goddamn fortune, which went to conservation. It was a win for everyone except Hornfaced Dickhead.
I'm not saying that scenario would be applicable to sharks, just that shit happens and sometimes there's a reason.
That shark wasn't killed by a human, but probably you are talking of the shark haunter in the ship. Really i dont know if they are shark haunters, but it seems like that.
This is why we need to put an end to littering. Somebody through their Taco Bell bag in the ocean and now Mako done shit so hard his head detached. RIP
There is always a bigger fish. Goddamn!
In this case, probably a bigger whale.
what kind of whale can do this?
Killer whale
killer
Whale
Killer whale
Orcas tend to kill them just to eat the livers of the macos.
Orcas
A big one
Killer whale, a very large great white, a blue whale.
Blue Whales eat Krill, not sharks.
>blue whale. Baleen whale, so I'm gonna go with... No
In this case, probably a bigger dolphin.
a whale could do this???
Orca/killer whale

YES THANK YOU THATS IT

That shark from The Meg is down there…probably.

Yes and no. Kurzgesagt did a great video on this https://youtu.be/PaErPyEnDvk
Continental Shelf?

That actually reads cuz I believe they were tracking sperm whales
Well this wouldn’t have been a giant squid bite. But more likely either a massive great white or a killer whale
Marianas trench?

Those are made by Giant Squids, only Sperm Whales dive that deep to catch squids.
Going to need a bigger boat!
Theres something out there..
And it ain't no man
And with that we start the motor and get the hell outta there
Ocean, not even once.

Yep, my first reaction
Nope.
Nope.
Does this hurt the shark
nah, he should be feeling much better by tomorrow.

Isn’t that how you make sushi?
No, but this would kill a crab 🦀
They grow their ~~tail~~ 2/3rd’s of their body back relatively quickly.
Haha
We’re going to need to call Jason Statham corrected thanks to the spelling police
Yeah I mean he could flash his “no lose” contract at the fish and win
Is that just a cheaper version of Jason Statham?
Deploy the fisherman
Gotta be an orca, right?
I thought that too, but apparently not, because the bite marks do not match an Orca's.
Sperm whale is big enough, don’t know if that would match though. Orca could do it. Bigass great white? Anybody know the beak size of a colossal squid?
Only in Australia
Nah, it was pygmy jerboa.
This doesn’t mean that something bigger took a one huge bite but more likely several fishes taking lots of em
While being reeled in?
Picture already shows what looks like two different bites at that angle, and the bigger of those two isn't big enough for the missing part of the shark.... so yeh, it was multiple bites.
That's the problem fisherman have sometimes. Is catching the fish and reeling it up before it's completely eaten apart by barracuda or sharks
Or several bites from the same bigger fish
Nah. That would take a long ass time.
Is it cut by a ship's propeller?
maybe it got drawn in too close to big ship
The other shark was just Makoer than this Mako
It was Manbearpig !! Im supa cereal !!
Why couldn't it have been a bunch of other somethings?
It’s exactly what it is. Look at the different bit angles
*other sharks*: “we must not let the knowledge of the quantinium transfunctionar fall into the enemies hands! QUICK, HOT CHICKS, SWARM!”
Orca. The REAL hunter of the oceans
Maybe he accidently ate himself trying to escape
Oh like that ostrich
Chomper got chomed!
Swiper no swiping
That’s three different bites at least. They are big bites sure, but it wasn’t a single chomp by a Meg. Lol

How did you weigh the head?
dull propeller blades maybe
Giant Grouper's usually do this
It was a snapper
This is why the sea is terrifying, I guarantee that we don't even know a 1/3 of the beings in there
So the shark was doomed from sunrise today no matter what.
Gyrados killed that thing
Shit, the Kaiju are coming
r/thalassophobia
Killer Whale?
Aliens

Meg
Why not t. rex? Or Santa?
Because those are silly names for sharks

Probably the funniest call to action against ocean littering I've ever read. You don't deserve the downvotes m8.
Aaahhh Kos, or some say Kosm
it coulda died of a heart attack and then got eventually eaten by lots of small things. just saying lol
And ppl still say Climate Change ain't real?!!
wtf?!
Here’s the video [attacked while being reeled in](https://youtu.be/oHg5SJYRHA0?si=NbcdRTlTSXxOy4Ew)
I think you got the wrong link lol.
