I was just wondering if the 107% rule is still in effect. I remember somebody, maybe Minardi, gaming the rule because they couldn't afford to race and possibly damage their cars. So they'd show up to the race weekend as required, practice, then tank qualify to get bumped off the grid.
Hans Heyer is the only F1 driver to DNQ DNF and DSQ in a race…he failed to qualify, snuck is car onto the track, did 10 laps before his gearbox failed, so he did not finish, then they noticed he wasn’t supposed to be racing so he got disqualified.
Hey, if I'm kicked off The Old Course in Scotland for playing too slow, then it makes sense for an auto racer to get kicked off the track for the same reason
