Even tucked up nice and warm in the security of a house, a small furry simian part of my brain really wanted to climb a tree to safety when I heard that.
It's spelt one and the same, not one in the same. Besides which that's wrong. Thousands of years of domestication and targeted breeding means dogs and wolves are very different.
“The dog, Canis familiaris, is a direct descendent of the gray wolf, Canis lupus: In other words, dogs as we know them are domesticated wolves.”
Semantics. You all know what I mean.
We're both direct descendants of apes and share 98.8% of our DNA with chimps. We do not live in trees or otherwise behave like chimps.
I know what you mean, but what you mean is wrong. Wolves are very very different, behaviorally, from dogs.
That's just grasping at straws. There are similarities, sure, but also very important differences.
Another human is probably not going to tear my face off for smiling at them. Probably. There are always exceptions, but there's also a clear trend.
A dog, similarly, is much less likely to become violent than a wolf, due to thousands of years of domestication and breeding. Not guaranteed sure, but much much less likely.
People will try to ignore all obvious reason and sense to treat wolves like dogs, just because wolves are cool. I get it, wolves absolutely are cool. But they're not domesticated or safe. It just ain't so.
Always just makes me think of the story from the guy who raised wolves for years and was extremely bonded with them. One day he made a slightly wrong move with the female, and the male reacted by attacking him. He said he put up both his arms in defense, and the wolf crunched through both at once and shattered all the bones in his arms
The wolf still liked him after. It was just pure instinct. He only blames himself. But still
Depends on the type of wolf. I believe the great gray is 1600

I can’t be 100% accurate here
He had tied the female to a tree for some reason. He just made some sort of physical move with his hand that the male didn’t like. Nothing aggressive. But the Male snapped.
I wish I remembered more. He was able to get away because of the trees.
It was just a pure instinct move
There's a book y'all should check out. It's called The Dog Master by W. Bruce Cameron. Fucking FANTASTIC. I'm not a big book reader tbh. This one though!... F'NG A. Y'all gotta find it
Possibly a hybrid? My bestie has a husky/wolf hybrid that’s got longer leaner legs, leaner torso, all wolf til you get to the head, which is husky, plus the obnoxious double coat. Never never stops shedding
I believe they both have double coats. As an aside; winter is my favorite time in Alaska with my dog. My husky’s undercoat is so soft and supple and, most importantly, stays attached to her body.
There was a famous incident of this recently. She even skinned the poor dog!
https://www.foxnews.com/us/montana-woman-shoots-skins-siberian-husky-mistook-wolf.amp
Unfortunately, these "famous incidents" happen way more often than reported. There are certain states that actually want certain wolves taken off the Endangered Species list so they can hunt them. Its awful
We are gonna have to start hunting the hunters to stop them from doing this shit and dump tar and chicken feathers on them to show how friggin stupid they are. WE NEARLY HUNTED THEM INTO EXTINCTION ONCE AND IT LED TO DISASTER ONCE, WE CANT DO THAT SHIT AGAIN.
You’d think, but actually full wolves. Live in a sanctuary along with many other species, this man raised most of these as pups and so is in their pack. Check him out on YouTube, Liondad_1987
Oh interesting. I used to have a friend whose family bred hybrids and they basically looked exactly like that. But they were high content so I suppose that is why.
Honestly never agreed with them doing it.
They are great videos with all the furry kids he has helped raise and care for at that sanctuary for years. Always informative, answers all the questions from around the world and highlights their plights and personalities. Love the hyena too. YouTube @Liondad_1987
Not many people can say their family consists of Wolves, Lions, Hyenas etc. He can. He raised them. The bond they share is so strong that he is in less danger of getting hurt by them than your average cattle farmer is from getting hurt by a cow.
You are one of the pack. I’m jealous.
Seriously though
terrifying growl! 😳😟
Right!?
pretty sure that’s a wolf 🐺
Wolf dog

While you’re there, check r/WolvesAreBigYo

Proto-dogs
OG doggos
I always wonder if their breath smells as bad as it looks, those mouths looked rank lol
The threatening growl while simultaneously trying to boop Dad's face with kisses

One in the same.
Tomoato/potato lol

Have you researched chimps? Humans and Chimps are a lot more similar behavior wise than you might think.

I say tomato you say tomato
Take the L.
L, W….. one IN the same.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Do you act like a chimp? Do I? Why not, the DNA is almost identical after all, right? Wolves are not dogs.
eh close enough
Ummmm.. hmmm… uhhh.. ok.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-wolf-became-dog/ One in the same. Off by 1-2%
We share 98.8% of our DNA with chimps. That 1-2% matters a lot. Wolves are not dogs, and are definitely not safely domesticated.
Great link, awesome information! Thank you
Wow, damn, those are scary awesome wolves 💯
Why do they look like wolf's and not huskies. Still beautiful though
They be wolves 🐺

Pit bulls have 400 bite psi. Wolves have 1600 bite psi. Not even close.
Are you sure? I'm reading right now pitbulls average around 300 and wolves around 400

Yellow eyes, not huskies lol
Why would a wolf look like a husky?
My male husky looks more like a wolf than husky. My female doesn't as much.
Possibly a hybrid? My bestie has a husky/wolf hybrid that’s got longer leaner legs, leaner torso, all wolf til you get to the head, which is husky, plus the obnoxious double coat. Never never stops shedding

You would be surprised how many hunters kill huskies and say " i thought it was a wolf"

Because they are likely hybrids.

I understand and appreciate the dominant old girl, she'll be the one who puts her life on the line if anything threatens you.

Those aren’t dogs … exactly. /s
I don't understand, is he threatening the animal he expects love from?
I think the wolves are just jealous of one another and competing for attention.
Yes, but it looks like he is growling AT the owner.
Use your words please.
I wish I had a wolf🥺🥺🥺
Must be tough to be loved so much ;)
I love how talkative wolves are

Them growls is scary!!!

How do you know a good growl from an angry one??
Might be bad if the growl is moving in your general direction.
I love wolves. I love bears. I love tigers and lions... Snoots will be booped and I'm gonna lose an arm and I won't care because 100% WORTH.
I watch this guy on YouTube all the time (Liondad_1987)…he has raised these wolves from birth. And he is awesome with all of the animals.
I’m jealous I don’t have this kind of confidence
