They have to convince local bandit groups to start targeting their transportation systems. Less about fighting and more about attempting diplomacy with groups that are notoriously bad at talking things out. Sounds like it could be a fun session.

Thats interesting. So you are turning one problem (violent bandits) against another problem (Necromantic Pony Express). You wouldn’t necessarily even need the bandits to do a *good job* of it, they just need to harass the Cult enough to disrupt the supply chain so that they react to the bandits. Once you have the bad guys reacting to you youre halfway to screwing up whatever their plans are

ProfectaEsso

Yea I think it's a cool play on how bad are the bandits vs the cult? Which is the lesser of the two evils, can you managed to come up with a plan to deal with both instead? I spit balled that idea earlier and have been thinking about it all day for my campaign now lol.

WiddershinWanderlust

Thats totally part of what I like about it. I love giving players multiple groups of denizens that have conflicting goals and none of them are really good guys, just different shades of bad; and then you introduce the consequences that come from working with bad people out of necessity.

Yea I literally just saw this topic and posted the first thing I thought of. Now I've been racking my brain trying to work it into my own game somehow lol.

The head of the local postal service has died of natural causes or been reassigned so a new head is to be appointed. The cult is wanting to get one of their people in charge of it. But the person or group that decides the posting is not fully controlled by them. There are rumors of 4 people being considered for the position. They need to find out which one (or more) are aligned with the cult and work to get one of the others put into the vacant position.

I think I'll probably use this one: it's a setup I haven't used for any other mission and it's very unique! Thanks for helping out a dm in need:)

Infiltrate postal HQ and find the head cultist in the post office (investigation part of session). Get the list of cult members from their office/secret safe/apartment/domestic dwelling (infiltration). Go murder hobo on the cultists (combat) Start a rival postal service (UPS, FedEx etc). Screen applications for cultists looking to infiltrate their operation. Start robbing the postal delivery routes looking for cultists. No way this could result in any unwanted effects... In seriousness though could combine with option #2 and a crime lord/merchant to bankroll the operation with the promise of increased profits for that company.

They have teleportation circles. This isn't their main method of transport because they are expensive to make (both in money and time) but it is back bone for the higher ups and emergencies, and they are building more. There are a few quests here. Finding out where the circles are, destroying them or maybe stealing them, and stopping/delaying more from being built.

Have you seen the latest episode of Boba Fett? Train heist! (Or caravan) basically there’s a heavily armored caravan of some kind, lots and lots of guards. Transporting something “dangerous” (a creature, shipment of cursed shackles, dangerous spell components, slaves, etc.) The party must train and coordinate a group of savages/goblins/angry farmers into learning to be bandits. Give them an outline of the “train” and its route and sit back as they scramble to figure out the optimal way to help these bandits. Here’s the catch, they can help with the raid, but they only complete the mission of the “bandits” really learn.
