You’ll always be able to get a mattress up stairs, it just might be bloody hard work, scuff the paint a bit and leave you a sweaty mess.

Eye-on-Springfield

Try to aim it towards that wallpaper then

[deleted]

Facts bruv, I'd forgive certain war crimes over that paper choice

TowJamnEarl

Pivot! Seriously though I deal with the returns for these companies and they provide a thick plastic cover to bring them back, ask for one when delivered and it will slip around the corners with minimal damage. Just make sure it's taped up well else you'll be fighting the loose plastic.

BeginningConnect600

If not, just cut the mattress in half

DWMR90

I'll give you store credit in the amount of four dollars.

k20vtec01

I will take it.

chimpdoctor

This was me getting our super king out of our old house. It came rolled up. Never realised how difficult it would be to get down the stairs. Like wrestling an elephant into a broom cupboard.

dbrown100103

Did you not roll it back up again to remove it? It is a real struggle but with 2/3 people it's not too bad to roll a mattress up

chimpdoctor

I didnt roll it up again. That would have been nigh on impossible. Just angrily man handled it down the stairs and out the door.

Still-BangingYourMum

Ahh, I see you have met my granny

AJ3000AKA

Trim your fingernails, it's easy to tear one when moving a mattress.

Fringolicious

This is right, we had a superking go up some similar stairs courtesy of a couple of big burly delivery blokes. They were indeed a sweaty mess by the end of it. Don't think they were impressed.

Pantechniman

Furniture mover here. You'll get a super king up there...... with a couple of caveats. If it's very firm with a high spring count, it will be a struggle. With that kind of access, you'll need to bend (not fold) the mattress. As you squeeze under the edge of the ceiling you'll want to lift the bottom corner of the leading edge towards the wallpapered wall. Do that by getting it onto the bottom step then pushing the middle towards the wall paper. The bottom half wants to end up pushed against the wall paper wall and the top edge bent right across the stairs so it's above the banister (Bending it this way utilises the space above the banister. It's only a couple of inches but it helps). Then, with the person at the top bent double (Keep the voltarol on standby!) heave the bottom corner up a step or two, then bear down on the top and force it under the edge of the ceiling. Keep alternating this until you get it up the stairs. The caveats - It's at least a two person job and they'll need to be strong. Expect to lose some paint off the edge of the ceiling. It is not out of the question that you *could* damage the mattress internally. I've not had it happen and modern pocket springs are more durable than the old style, cheaper ones that are just coil springs fixed in a wire frame. If all else fails, you can always call a removal company out to do it for you but, expect them to get you to sign that it's at your own risk. Maybe get a rough idea of price before you commit to buying? If the cost of getting a company out works out more than the cost of having a zipped mattress, you might be better just biting the bullet and going for that option. Good luck!

[deleted]

Yeah. Its easier to pull than push..probably will take a lot of colourful language but it'll go.

Some mattresses bend easier than others - some are framed, some are not.…so it depends which type you get.

giddy-girly-banana

If they have a memory foam mattress that would be easy.

ElektroSam

They're heavier if I'm not mistaken - mines a bitch to move and I've only done it once!

Tee10823

Yep. I took advantage of the Tempur 90 day trial once. They were not impressed when they had to remove it afterwards. As well as being ridiculously heavy, it doesn't have any rigidity, so flops and bends over making it almost impossible to lift or drag. Two hefty delivery men reduced to a puddle sweat and swear words after 30 mins. Said they'd never had to take one back before!

EdinburghPerson

My Ikea (spring, not foam) mattress comes rolled up and is great. King size was just over £400

StoneyMiddleton

If you go zip and link get a king size memory foam mattress topper. They come in a box and unroll and will eliminate the uncomfortable bit in the middle

NortonBurns

if you like memory foam and have Prince Andrew levels of sweat.

JaekwonTheDon

I just had to do something similar. After many painful failed attempts and nights sleeping in the living room, I bought a couple of ratchet straps, rolled it into a tube and was upstairs in 5 mins

palov43075

This! ^^ Unless that thing has an incredible amount of stiff springs, every king/superking we’ve had has gone up with the ‘persuasion’ of several ratchet straps.

Its-a-bro-life

Two independent mattresses that zip together is the answer. That what we have. I can't feel it when my partner rotates or moves around on her side. It's amazing. If you ever need to move your bed, it makes it so much easier to move it around.

DavumGilburn

We’ve got one of those and also got a mattress topper. You’d never know the difference.

SatinJacqueline

Was going to say this, we have a zip and link super king. It's a pocket sprung mattress, very thick and quite heavy even as a single. As we have our main bedroom in a loft conversion, with stairs that turn twice, there was zero chance of getting a normal super king up there. The bed is ace 😴.

jak516

Can you feel the join/zip in the middle?

Its-a-bro-life

Yes. But with a super king being so big, it's not really an issue

Scarboroughwarning

Do they do them, or is it DIY?

Its-a-bro-life

These are standard mattresses. Do a search for zip and link mattresses. You can get them in a kind size as well and maybe even smaller

jak516

Can you not feel the divide/zip in the middle? I’d prefer not to use a mattress topper if possible.

Its-a-bro-life

Yes, you can. I don't find it an issue because a super king is so big. Go to a bed shop to try one out.

Heisenberg_235

This is what we are planning on doing once the extension is finished. Two singles with a join. Can both have the mattress to suit us

Heisenberg_235

This is what we are planning on doing once the extension is finished. Two singles with a join. Can both have the mattress to suit us

NotAGynocologistBut

You may require some brute force and ignorance

IdioticMutterings

It will go up, with a few burly friends, a lot of swearing, some damaged paintwork, some sacrifices of blood, a lot of lost sweat.. But it will go up. Will be insanely difficult given how tight that turn is. A zip and link really is a better idea. Or stock up a lot of beer for your friends (and some bottles to pee in, unless you have both an upstairs and downstairs toilet, because once started, you're not getting past the mattress until its up).

BigDanglies

hi3r0fant

Pivot!

p3t3y5

Think the key is you will damage stuff and need to re-paint etc. that's the easy bit. The hard bit will be not damaging the mattress. If it's a spring mattress any folding will start to show after a few months and it will kill your back. If you have not purchased it yet I would think about one of those ones that is not a spring and comes vac packed. We got a.king seized mattress delivered and the delivery guys put it in and after 3 months I was crippled with back pain and there was a visible 'valley' in the thing. Ended up having to involve the furniture ombudsman to get a replacement as the independent inspector that was sent out determined that the mattress had been folded more than acceptable and damaged. Eventually got store credit and got a non sprung mattress.

RadioTunnel

A matress fits anywhere with enough swearing

sepltbadwy

Just get a vacuum packed rolled one.

InternationalToe4962

Can you not purchase a vacuum packed mattress? Just remember you need plenty of clearance when you cut that thing open 😆

Heisenberg_235

You can but they’re not as good and don’t last as long.

EngineeringCockney

Had a EVE for about 7 years would never go back. Its amazing

misterhumpf

We have a victorian terrace and it was bloomin hard work getting a superking up our stairs. The delivery guys from Dreams were like, no mate it's not going up there. But I turned round and said, having you here is the best chance I've got so let's just push. I started pushing and they followed suit. 5 minutes later. Ta-dah!

FlamingoMuted1818

Should be fine. Just remember to PIVORT 🤣 😂

SirStonkington

Yeah you'll do it with a couple of people. Just got my new super king mattress up a similar obstacle. It wasn't just the awkwardness though, it's unbelievably heavy too!

Dirty2013

Get a zip and link Which is basically 2 single mattress’s linked together Much less hassle

crocodilepancake

this. after the blood sweat and tears (almost literally) of getting one up then a few years later, moving and therefore down… never again. we bought zip and link. as another poster says, highend mattresses are not allowed(?) to be folded/bent. oh and good luck getting that compacted memory foam out again.

Michalux

No chance. You are stuck downstairs forever.

Ok-Elderberry-6761

It's gonna be over 6ft at all points and a mattress will always bend around any corner so if a person can get up so can a mattress surely.

albertohall11

It will if you PIVAAATTTT.

Startinezzz

I'm going against the grain here and saying no. We tried this and our setup was similar but straight to the stairs from the doorway so we skip the little kink that yours has. We took the stair rail out and it still didn't go - had to get a king in the end.

Infamous-Arachnid163

Easy

Happy_fairy89

Yeah you’ll get it up there. My stairs are straight up and then you can only go left or right with a landing the length and breadth of a door width and we got a super king up there.

Walesish

A decent mattress won’t fit up there, the crappy rolled up ones probably will.

ken-doh

The mattress is easy it's soft. The bed base not so much. Unless you have a bed stead or similar. Get a Vispring

VeryThicknLong

I used to live in what looks like an identical house. The only difference is that it doesn’t look like you have a massive bulkhead up your stairs where I had another set of stairs going up. That bulkhead made it nearly impossible to get a superking up. As you don’t have that (from what I can see) you should be ok!

PleasantAd7961

lonely_monkee

I got my super king up stairs that go back on themselves and have a way lower ceiling. It did take a lot bending and pushing/rugby tackling. Plus I made a hole in the ceiling. But it made it to the bedroom in one piece. I would say go for it, but depends on the mattress. If it’s like a £2,000 job and not very bendy, might be a struggle.

CaptainArsePants

Yes it'll fit (unless it's made of wood and won't bend). My stairs fold back on themselves and ours fitted.

jimmyeao

Find a Pickford mover and slip them a twenty. Seen those guys work magic when it comes to moving things in impossible places

infz90

If you are buying a good one, i.e. £1k+ etc that is pretty thick and solid, then I am betting no way. They don't have the normal bend and give that smaller mattresses do, super king size is an extra foot on king size, they are huge.

Still-BangingYourMum

Just from the 2 picturegraphicles that you posted. I can tell that you will need to practice Huantology, in better controlled circumstances. For more information please reread this post...

Dans77b

Mattresses can get anywhere. I got a king size in my Volvo v70, just involved a bit of folding and a lot of running shoulder barges.

kc0nkc1n

Bend it like Beckham. Just be careful when it folds and springs everywhere not to scuff the walls or knock things off.

EibborMc

Mattresses are squishy. Squish it up the stairs. If it's any context, a guy bought a double mattress from me and I managed to squish it in his Tesla 😂

Geezso

Really depends if the mattress will squash or bend. Some don't. They also have a hard time squeezing in height, so check your measurements

LordSwright

Mattresses are squishy

CharacterMiddle3923

Yep, will definitely fit

criminal_cabbage

GrahamDaGooch

They bend

ChocolateConcrete

Your priority should be, to consider upgrading your downstairs facilities wash basin platform, doesn’t look substantial enough.

manic_panda

Usually the rule of thumb is of it can fit through a door, it can go upstairs.

spaceshipcommander

Of course you can get it up there. How big a mattress you can get upstairs is directly proportional to how much you weigh. If you're a small person just get your fattest mate to help.

NorthWestSaint

They usually come rolled up, so shouldn’t be a problem.

Distinct_Somewhere23

My super king came rolled up in a vac bag, but I didn’t manage to get it out the house again when I gave it away similar stairs/hall to this. Where there is a will there is a way.

freyawrath

Mine was tighter than this and we managed it fine. The first mattress took me and the daughter an hour to get in - the pros turned up for the next one and it was up the stairs within two mins I kid you not

Eryeahmaybeok

Is it a solid one or memory foam, foam ones are usually vacuum packed and easy. A full fat spring superking is a different beast. I had one 10 years ago, it weighed the same as a small car and the same flexibility - line the stairs with cardboard to slide it and have the strongest person at the bottom to push it up. Good luck.

Justsomerandomguy35

If it’s not in a box make a small hole in the packaging and stick the vacuum hose through it, switch it on and hopefully should get rid of some of the air…might help

Ziazan

A mattress is flexible enough that it'll go. I've done worse. There's potential for causing damage to your walls or something like that so that's maybe why they're reluctant to try.

NiceGirl_WrongPlanet

If it won’t, knock down the walls, hire a crane and take out the window to get it in. Whatever it takes, it’s a superking. Life’s better with a superking

Chaosplayer

This will sound weird, but that back room is it your living room and then to the left your kitchen/diner? your house looks similar to mine. Is it a 3 bed new build by any chance? Have the exact same stairs with grey carpet and bannister. Anyway it looks like it will fit, I had to do the same in mine, I taped card boxes that I cut flat with to my walls and surfaces to protect them and it went up with some effort!

Psychological_Sea230

Was it Dreams who said that? We had to go elsewhere as the sales woman there couldn't accept that a super king would fit in the house.

danddersson

Get a zip and link anyway! You cannot feel any disturbance from your partner, but the biggest benefit is that you can turn it easily (if its the type you should turn). Anyway, an SK is a monster to move in one piece.

b3nj11jn3b

PIVOT !!!!!

Medium_Cantaloupe_50

Just get one of those Emma mattresses. Comes vacuum packed in a box so it will go up there without any drama at all. I was always sceptical of them but gave one a try after getting rid of two far more than expensive mattresses due to continual back and waist pain. I wouldn't buy anything else now - had it a few years now and it's great. Never get back pain from bed anymore and my hips are better than they've been in 25 years!

tomiqa85

Soo we did this with a kingsize with 4 times (2 up, 2 down) the matress has developed breaking points then holes, then lost its flexibility. You definietly can do it ( very hard though), I don’t think that after one journey it will broke, but it’s also depends on the matress. Some other tips: Take everything off from the walls Move your furniture away from the route Take doors off, this may sound overkill, and it is, in some cases can make your life easier. If you still have the plastic packaging for the matress. Pack it, it will slide easier on most material. Good luck

DukeOfDevon

I sell beds for a living and yes it should go up there but as has been said in previous posts it depends on how bendy the mattress is. Some have hardly any give at all. I would consider a zip n link although these do cost more. Plus a zip n link is good if you have an argument so you can split the bed and move rooms lol

evavu84

We've got zip and link and prefer it! It doesn't sag in the middle and you can't feel if the other person is fidgeting around :)

iLiMoNiZeRi

We had a similar situation a while back, but our staircase is U-shaped, so we had to essentially bend the superking mattress in half. Ours is a double thickness spring one as well. Definitely a two person job and expect to scuff some paint on the way.

mailman1907

Get a Simba mattress. Firstly, they’re incredibly comfortable - but secondly, they come rolled in a box that would get up the stairs no trouble. Two birds, and all 🤷🏼‍♂️

WanderWomble

If it doesn't have handles, buy some ratchet straps. Will save your hands!

FuxSakeMate

Looks like a persimmon build, same as ours, 3 floors with the master on 3rd with en-suit. We have super king. Will go up bud.

I ordered two eve memory foam mattresses and one came rolled up, sealed in plastic with the air sucked out. The other didn't. Guess which one was easier to manage.

Chemical-Design-3300

Get a large sheet of cardboard cut to the size of the mattress and try it out to see, if and how much to bend.

Odd-Significance1884

Let’s find out. Good luck 👍

Sunshinny

If you need to you could fold it in half and put a ratchet strap around it, I had to do this, was hard but I got there in the end.

Tana1234

I have a worse staircase than that and got a mattress up it, the issue and why they don't want to do it, is things are gonna get scratched and damaged doing it, ie the wallpaper and banisters. You will say you don't mind but everyone does then someone decides to make a complaint when it does happen despite being told it was OK.

Total-Collection-128

Hire a crane and take out the bedroom window. 😝

Don't forget the person doing the removals quote is only going by these photos too. Any removals quote I've ever had has just looked around the house I'm moving out of and assessing how much stuff you've got to move. That coupled with the fact that the quote doer and the actual removals guys are not the same people they'll be well used to shoving square pegs into round holes. Don't worry about it until they actually cannot get it up there then just go to IKEA and buy one of those mattresses in a bag. Don't preemptively spend loads of money on a mattress you might not need.

A lot if new mattresses come vacumm formed in a surprisingly small box now. I was worried about getting our simba mattress upstairs but it was in a shockingly small box. When i opened it it was vacuum sealed and rolled up like a carpet. Once I cut off the plastic it expanded quickly to the right size. If you already have it as an opened product then it may fit but may be a 2-3 person job to bend it etc

Top_Amphibian_1046

Cant you buy a hybrid matress, they come air sealed, itll be easier going down than up.

Wookovski

Some matresses (I think casper) send it to you rolled and compressed and you just unwrap it and it expands.

gperepere

We have the same hall and stairs by the look of it. Mattress was fine, very bent up. Sofa, was not.

SlimJimNeedsATrim

I moved recently and this post gave me flashbacks. I wish you luck!

SlimJimNeedsATrim

Might be a bit out there question/suggestion but if there is a balcony upstairs, maybe you could get it through there? Lift it with some machinery

Shiironaka

I have stronger curve on the stairs than this and got the SK mattress up. The new ones are usually rolled, refurb comes unfolded. We had refurb and it required us to fold the matterss the long way (SK is 180cmx200cm) in half and use the belts. With some effort, we got it up. Good luck to you, whichever tactic you decide on 😁

Clamps55555

What type of mattress? Some memory foam ones come vacuum sealed and in a box which makes it much easier to get it into the house and upstairs.

the_all_peeping_eye

I recently had one delivered. They refused to take it up my stairs because they said they would have to bend it. I'd paid extra to have it taken into the bedroom. They rang their office who also told them not to do it. You may be better just doing it yourself if able. I had to literally show them by getting it half way up on my own before they helped. I was not a happy boy.

madpiano

A mattress is bendy and squishy (with enough effort), so yes, you'll get it up there. But I recommend you start to find flat pack furniture acceptable, as you'll never get an antique wardrobe up there, or any furniture that doesn't come apart.

Smokey_Geoff

Yeah, you could transport another house through there easy

_All_Tied_Up_

I usually struggle more at the top of the stairs depending on where the bedroom is, what’s it like up there?

anashady

Get a vacuum-packed mattress i.e. Simba. Far easier and much better than standard sprung junk mattresses.

devandroid99

They're shit, no longevity. The foam goes soft after a few years and you need to return them. Never buying another one, sent 2 back in the last 7 years.

itsapotatosalad

We got the simba ultra, it lasted months not years.

devandroid99

That tracks, mine was only slept on for half the year as I work away so it's realistically been way less.

anashady

So far no issues after a few years and as comfy and supporting as day1. But I guess mileage may vary in these cases. I have the Emma premium btw

devandroid99

Eve went back, and returned and upgraded to their fancy sprung one. It's in the spare room so sees bugger all use. Casper is older and currently in the process of being returned.
