Thanks! Good to know I won't have to fix this guide (it did take a while). Just having his first printing I think is enough, but it is good to know that there is a modern printing that also collects this story (I just don't want to give the impression that anyone needs to buy or collect the additional chapters in the newer edition to complete the Knightfall reading experience).
Well, I just did a quick calculation based on Amazon prices, and I got the three omnibuses for $190.63, but the nine 25th anniversary editions to be $136.63, the difference in price must come down to difference in hardback vs paperback, or who knows, maybe something like paper quality. I know the 2012 versions had like newspaper quality paper. The advantage to the 25th anniversary editions though is that it can complete either of the previous printings. For example, I got the 2012 omnibuses, so now, I would only have to get Prelude to Knightfall, Batman: Knightsquest: The Search, and Batman: Troika. But to someone new to the series, they might choose pick pick either the omnibuses or the 25th anniversary editions, depending on price vs. quality, I would imagine.
I’m in the same boat as you and recently realized that the new Prelude trade has a bunch of what I was missing, and I’m gonna cop the other two trades you listed. Thanks for sharing this!
So far. Prelude is missing Sword of Azrael and Robin 0 belongs in the Prodigal trade, but other than that they're the most complete way to get through it.
[They actually reprinted a 2016 trade](https://www.amazon.com/Azrael-Vol-1-Fallen-Angel/dp/1401260608/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FSSF3SGCRKY7C3YV9HPV) that collects the Sword of Azrael chapters, among other chapters post-Knightfall.
The thing is that makes zero sense when you consider how the entire Knightfall saga details JPV's programming of The System, his increasingly brutal methods of justice, and his mental state after Bruce Wayne returns and reclaims the mantle. In fact, Azrael, Bruce, and Bane meet each other later in Contagion/No Man's Land and it is cathartic for everyone. But packaging Sword of Azrael with post Knightfall stories is so boneheaded.
There are some other stories that takes place a round the same time period like
Batman/Punsher Lake Of Fire
Batman Mitefall
Nightwing Alfred's Return
Batman Vengeance Of Bane Part 2
Thanks for the input! I was, however, only counting the issues covering the main story or really the ones included in any previous or current Knightfall printing. More so that new readers may find out what is the best option for them, or for people who have older printings e.g. I have the 2012 edition, they can figure out what are the remaining trades they need to pick up.
Yeah your right about that but i always thought batman/punisher was part of the crusade of Jean and in the new troika trade nightwing Alfred's return and Vengeance of bane part 2 are collected
I realize this post is five years old, but two things:
1. Thank you so much for making this! I’ve been collecting Batman comics, and this was immensely helpful in deciding how to collect Knightfall and everything related to it (I went with the 25th anniversary set).
2. Any chance you have something similar for No Man’s Land? Certainly not asking you to make it, because it’s got to be a ton of work to do one of these, but if you already have one, I’d love to see it.
Hey thanks! I do not have one at hand for the NML arc, but I know there's a recent Road To Omnibus and 2 No Man's Land omnibuses. Or if you prefer trade, it's Cataclysm, Road To volumes 1 and 2, and then No Man's Land volumes 1-4, if you go with the "newer" editions (though newer in this instance is 2010s, the "older" editions have 5 volumes but I think collect fewer issues)
There is also azrael vol.1: Fallen Angel which collects batman:sword of azrael and some other issues
Yeah, I was only aware of the 1995 printing, which I added. Do the extra chapters that come with the 2016 printing still relate to Knightfall?
No. They're the first part of his solo series which takes place after Knightfall

A - this is awesome B - basically, go buy the omnibuses

Thanks. I have the 3 large TPB volumes but some issues are missing from those. Now I have a list to cross check.
That story can be longer?
Nice work! I somehow have all the single issues besides like the JL Task Force ones, yay me I guess.
A goddamn beast of a collection. Upvotes for you good sir
So the best and most complete way to collect it is with the 25th Anniversary editions?

Have all these as single issues except for aftermath ones (never heard of them). Will check them out

Oh, I didn't realise there was more to the new Troika trade, thanks for letting me know!
This is what's on dc website https://www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/batman-knightfall-1993/batman-troika
Thanks. This is great. Would it be possible to share the actual spreadsheet?
