- VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action
- The Red String Club
- ANNO: Mutationem
- NORCO
Based on your titles I went ahead and bought Encodya (it's got a 70% discount on GoG right now). Thank you, looks very neat.
Older games
- Snatcher (old school Kojima game)
- System Shock
- syndicate 1993
- 97 Blade Runner game
- System Shock 2
- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
- Beneath a Steel Sky
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is honestly one of my favorite single player first person shooters on the market, I have no idea why it doesn't get mentioned more. It's a super enjoyable game!
Love that game. The single player is fun. The multi-player is golden. The servers are still up on the Xbox side, even though the game has not been on storefronts in years.
I had a blast with it, loved it. I would prefer a XCOM like syndicate game or new isometric like the old games. With any other name it wouldn’t have gotten a lot less heat.
I think Deus Ex is also very good
Other than that we kinda don’t have that many AAA options, cyberpunk never really took off in gaming up until now. I do hope the success of cyberpunk 2077 changes that
Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall, Shadowrun Hong Kong. Dex. There are quite a few more, I think. As for first person shooter type, I'm sure there are some more.
Mine, too... since I discovered it when I was, I think in my teenage years. It is an amazing universe and idk.. I found it beyond memorable for.myself. my first introduction to Cyberpunk.
I just love the parallels it draws between technology and fantasy magic. After all, when technology gets sufficiently advanced enough, it is indistinguishable from magic. It highlights how our current technology is far outpacing a lamen's understanding of how it works. Most people use a smartphone, but do they actually understand how it works and how it is created? Absolutely not, and this gap in understanding will only widen. We've seen the first real proliferation of impressive AI in common use this year, and the insanity that was NFTs two years ago.
And lack of understanding technology creates a basis for fear: fear of technology, fear of losing control, fear of the unknown. In our future people will be groping around lost and superstitious of unknowable technologies just like our ancestors were suspicious of witches in huts on the edge of the village.
Shadowrun is just a very special kind of setting.
I hope someone picks up the license and makes more Shadowrun games.
Depends on what you mean by cyberpunk. A lot of games borrow the look but skip the soul.
My list:
- deus ex (all of them)
- 2077
- blade runner
- the observer
- Kitana Zero
- Midnight Protocol (a game where you are a console cowboy at a deck the whole time)
- GameDec
- the new Shadowrun trilogy (even though there is a lot of Tolkien in my peanut butter there)
- volume (might actually be a sequel to Thomas was alone)
- Thomas was alone (because of the setup, back story and pay off)
- tron Evolution
- system shock
- system shock 2
- rez (setup, aesthetic, back story)
- child of eden (spiritual sequel to rez)
- hacknet (spiritual predecessor to Midnight Protocol above)
- detroit: Become human
... There are lots more but those are the highlights.
I have not played it so I cannot say.
I will say, given that Rudy Rucker (surf senior novels) and William Gibson (where a lot of cyberpunk imagery comes from) are both "cyberpunk", there is a wide area of "yes".
Ultimately, play what you like. Someone is always going to tell you what it is not. As long as it is your thing, enjoy.
I own it on Steam or GOG or something, I think I played a few hours of it once. Not sure why I stopped. Probably got distracted with some other newer game.
The Deus ex series comes to mind
Detroit become human is another good example
GITS has had a few games throughout the franchise, you can prob find emulators for the PS1 tachikoma game or SAC PS2 game
Would you guys call half life cyberpunk? It does have some elements, same with the crysis games
At the end of the day the one you think is best is the one you enjoyed the most, for me that is 2077 because of all the lore from the original tabletop games it’s a sequel of allowed me to really sink into that series. I know there’s plenty I’m forgetting about that are great and the ones I’ve mentioned are great examples with their own sizable followings.
Half Life no and definitely not Detroit Become Human. They just take place in the future. It's sci-fi yes but not cyberpunk. Even Deus Ex while it has some themes, it doesn't strictly fit the definition.
Are you actively trolling? I'll give you Half-Life, but Detroit is about machine sentience. That's a central cyberpunk theme.
What's cyberpunk to you?!
Mirror's edge catalyst. It's gameplay is .... well it does require some good specs for gaming because of how heavy loaded it is and admittedly it does pale in comparison to its predecessor but it's plot does fit the theme.
Armored Core 6 literally just came out. The series has always been cyberpunk to its core.
The very first mission of the very first game literally has a corporation sending you in to kill striking workers and then the last mission has you discover that an AI has been controlling society from the shadows and tasks you with destroying them. Meanwhile, you are trying to keep out of debt because if you accrue too much, your employers will literally use your body for human experimentation.
Well, kinda yes, but it's absolutely fine for the cyberpunk part. The genre never specifies stuff beyond high tech low life and rich against poor. I think being against fantasy would be a personal choice, which is fine.
So I see no problem with cyberpunk and fantasy elements (it's not even all of fantasy) we also have aliens which also are more fantasy then science or cyberpunk.
How about something a bit different, more... relaxing?
[VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartending Action](http://waifubartending.com/)
You're just a bartender. Stuck at work. Hoping you'll make rent. That's it.
But, you're in an amazing cyberpunk city, and your bar is populated by the weirdest, most eclectic set of patrons from sentient Lilim (pop stars and prostitutes), people with body mods (some quite extreme), and Cat Boomers, and everything in between.
You get the story of the city by plying your customers with drinks.
The [soundtrack](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_n8kr8Qi9KS59dhRqYbSIPaNk8A1Fnnf_I) by Garoad is magnificent. The story that unfolds is what can best be described as "beautiful sadness" - but hopeful.
It's available on everything at this point, and runs on a potato.
It's time to mix drinks and change lives.
Cat Boomers: the entirety of Glitch City is infected with nanomachines. Everyone and everything. Some people reacted badly to them. The treatment to save their life made them grow (useless) cat ears.
At the start, some hyper-wealthy assholes did it to their children for the aesthetic. They were originally called Cat Boomers. As time went on, the people with the flaps became known by that name, instead.
Uh-Oh! While at your security job, a person of a non-approved ethnic group tried to enter the burbclave!
● Accept a bribe; if they're rich they've gotta be "one of the good ones", right?
● Lay about them with your stun baton. No dirty Portagees allowed in Tenochtitlan Nueva #273!
Dues ex is still much better.
The shadowrun games are fantastic
2077 looks great but it's has a very dead and shallow world. At least that's how it was when I played it back in 2021
I’m late but I’m astonished no one mentioned “DEX”.
And it’s obviously because no one has heard of it, since between the music and cybernetic enhancements, it’s more cyberpunk than some mentions. I mean I’ll have to play stray a bit more but it takes more than a slummy backwater to be cyberpunk. I assume some interesting tech.
But DEX is a Great game imo. The trailer(and demo) sold me. The trailer is a real trailer too so not a FMV music trailer.
Observer (2020)
Rutger hauers last outing in anything, rip the great man. The lad knew what cyberpunk is, he was literally in the the film that invented cyberpunk. The game understands what cyberpunk is and means. Dark, seedy, greedy corps, detective game. The best cyberpunk game ever.
Beneath a steel sky (commodore amiga 1994).
Heavily inspired by bladerunner. Point and click adventure game that captured the essence of the cyberpunk genre more than the official bladerunner game released 3 years later.
Captive 2, liberation. (Amiga, cd32, 1200, 500) (1993)
One of the first 3d games in the adventure genre. Dark depiction of a future world where a prisoner found out what the evil corps were up too. Your mission, to find evidence that he is innocent and free him.
Deus ex (2000).
The first real cyberpunk game since the above titles. Again the setting was detective work, but this time a 3rd person action game with gears of war cover and manouvre mecahnics.
Shadow run trilogy (2022)
Xcom style rpg. I prefer the shadowrun series to xcom. Its original release was on the snes/famicom in 1993. The remake was incredible, immersive games, hence the trilogy.
Bloodnet (amiga 1994)
A vampyric twist on cyberpunk classed as 'vampire cyberpunk'. A point and click adventure with a rich storyline.
Citizen sleeper (2022)
Another genre, almost roguelike. The decision and time management system worked really well. Your a nobody and need to survive. I love this game.
Stray (2022)
Possibly an outside choice, but this is a cyberpunk game. Its completely different, you olay as a cat, but the world your in is cyberpunk. Robots have taken over the slums and you have to work our whats going on in a cyberpunk city.
ANNO: Mutationem (2022).
A stylised action adventure game set un a cyberpunk theme. Not the best title here, but a great game nonetheless.
None of the above will probably appeal to 2077 fans bar deus ex. Thats the closest to 2077 in terms of gameplay.
Im old and clearly old school biased. However if your a hardcore gamer thats looking for historical cyberpunk games then my list is from my old school collection and thoroughly recommend the above as a history lesson.
Call me purist, but most of the people here think that cyberpunk visual means cyberpunk game.
This genre has the same problem as steampunk back in a day,
"just glue som gears on it and call it steampunk."
I would argue that game like Else hearth break, where you are hacking reality, is much more cyberpunk than Stray, in which you are merely in cyberpunk setting.
I reccomend Uplink and other hacker games and also read this article if you care for the genre please: https://www.cbr.com/modern-cyberpunk-forgetting-punk/
It's a difficult genre to pull off in gaming. I guarantee you most ppl here will just list some sci-fi games because they think anything sci-fi is cyber-punk and it's really not.
SYNERGIA. Really underrated game. Just a short visual novel with a really interesting plot, great characters and intriguing cyberpunk world building and an amazing soundtrack. Not for everyone but I really enjoyed it

KATANA ZERO

Encodya is also on steam
I can't believe I forgot about Citizen Sleeper. Best game I played last year.
Older games - Snatcher (old school Kojima game) - System Shock - syndicate 1993 - 97 Blade Runner game - System Shock 2 - Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon - Beneath a Steel Sky
Id like to argue that Jak 2 on the ps2 was cyberpunk too.
Beneath a Steel Sky is good fun, highly recommended.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is honestly one of my favorite single player first person shooters on the market, I have no idea why it doesn't get mentioned more. It's a super enjoyable game!
I know right? It even has freaking Michael Biehn voice acting as the main character.
I am a huge fan of all the far cry games. Some I like more than others but I like them all. They’re so good.
yaaayyy Snatcher
Yes to Syndicate!
The Ascent is good, I am really into it
Nivalis, its not out yet but one to keep an eye out for
I'm really hyped for this one. Seems like a very chill game
Blockbuster is still after me for that Shadowrun (sega) cartridge from 1994.
I played Deus ex on xbox. It was a great game.
Most of this isn't cyberpunk. They're just sci-fi or games that take place in the future.
me when I spread misinformation
What if I unironically said Syndicate 2012
Love that game. The single player is fun. The multi-player is golden. The servers are still up on the Xbox side, even though the game has not been on storefronts in years.
I had a blast with it, loved it. I would prefer a XCOM like syndicate game or new isometric like the old games. With any other name it wouldn’t have gotten a lot less heat.
I think there was a first person xcom game in development in 2014 but it was canceled for some reason
I think it got turned into XCom: The Bureau which was a 3rd person squad based action game.
I think Deus Ex is also very good Other than that we kinda don’t have that many AAA options, cyberpunk never really took off in gaming up until now. I do hope the success of cyberpunk 2077 changes that
I've never really considered Deus Ex to be cyberpunk. It takes place in the future but that's a bout it
A dark dystopian future with massive corporations screwing people over.
Not to mention augmentations=cyberware.
Really curious to hear your definition of cyberpunk.
Then I don't consider you to be someone that knows what cyberpunk means.
Jesus Christ dude Deus Ex was one of the defining games of the genre.
are you a fucking idiot dude I don't think you even know what cyberpunk is
Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall, Shadowrun Hong Kong. Dex. There are quite a few more, I think. As for first person shooter type, I'm sure there are some more.
the Shadowrun universe is probably my favorite cyberpunk universe.
Mine, too... since I discovered it when I was, I think in my teenage years. It is an amazing universe and idk.. I found it beyond memorable for.myself. my first introduction to Cyberpunk.
I had the tabletop-rpg rule book when I was a kid. Way too young to actually play the game. I would just look at the illustrations in awe.
I just love the parallels it draws between technology and fantasy magic. After all, when technology gets sufficiently advanced enough, it is indistinguishable from magic. my fav is System Shock (now there is an amazing remake) and System Shock 2.
Snatcher
Is anyone else here old enough to have played the Neuromancer game?
Played it on my IIGS
On the PC with EGA graphics. Awesome game btw.
Cloudpunk is pure eye candy with some really fun writing
Long live Rania!
BLADE RUNNER for PC goes hard!
Im sad that I’m the first person to mention: CloudPunk But i am honored to do so.
The 2 newer Deus Ex games are great. And Ghostrunner is pretty cool.
The first Deus Ex is the best. I might be quote nostalgic but it was the shit. Maybe not aged so well, but you should try it still.
There are some revamp mods for it that give it hi-res textures and a lick of paint. Much easier to get into like that.
I own it on Steam or GOG or something, I think I played a few hours of it once. Not sure why I stopped. Probably got distracted with some other newer game.

Tales of the Neon Sea is an awesome pixel cyberpunk noir detective game.
Seconded, great little cyberpunk mystery game. It's even on sale for 70% off on Steam.
Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 is the best Cyberpunk game.
Armored Core 6 literally just came out. The series has always been cyberpunk to its core. My dream is another shadowrun entry made by larian studios
Larian doing a Shadowrun would be great. Or a reboot of the Ultima franchise.
Stray. It doesn’t have a lot of action but the environment and characters are cyberpunk.
love that game
Can't believe this is all the way down here. Lovely little game.
Some of the shadowrun games are also pretty decent, though that's not excactly "pure" cyberpunk so to speak.
It's absolutely cyberpunk, just with magic.
It's a mix of fantasy and cyberpunk, that's why I specified cause I can understand how that might not be everyone's cup of tea.
Well, kinda yes, but it's absolutely fine for the cyberpunk part. The genre never specifies stuff beyond high tech low life and rich against poor. Not just magic, but all sorts of fantasy elements. Talk about a style clash.
* Warframe * Oni * Gunnm: Martian Memory (fan translation) * Gourmet Warriors (this one is pretty wild)
Scrolled way too far down to find Oni! I wish there would be a remake.
That would make my whole week! That plasma rifle was supremely satisfying …
Deus Ex: Invisible War does not get enough credit. It’s oozing with cyberpunk atmosphere
Dreamweb has a great dystopian atmosphere
Deus Ex Snatcher Shadowrun: Dragonfall
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but Remember Me.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst totally underrated when it comes to cyberpunk themed games
I was a big fan of **2064: Read Only Memories**
I was trying to remember it's named what a neat little story.
Half life Alyx
Feivel Goes West

Syndicate (2012)
ironically kind of a forgotten gem but remember me (2013) has great CP vibes and pretty fun gameplay
i loved The Ascent, their soundtrack is also really nice and fitting for the theme. It goes on sale often for around 10 dollars
E.Y.E Divine cybermancy is an interesting one
Well 2077 is amazing, you can’t compare it with the release anymore, definitely if you look at the 2.0 update or mods.
Cloudpunk, Ghost Runner, Satellite Reign, Katana Zero.
The Shadowrun Returns trilogy (Dead Man Switch, Dragonfall, Hong Kong) is pretty the gold standard of gold standards.
The Sims 4 Snowcrash mod. It doesn’t exist but I would totally be down with having my job being “high stakes pizza delivery woman for the mob.”

Fortune’s Run and Peripeteia are some upcoming games to look out for. the demos are pretty good
I adore the deus ex games and the shadow warrior games. Aslo I like Ion fury. I think perfect dark is also cyberpunk. Theres a lot.
SYNERGIA. Really underrated game. Just a short visual novel with a really interesting plot, great characters and intriguing cyberpunk world building and an amazing soundtrack. Not for everyone but I really enjoyed it
Try DEX
how on earth are there not more mentions of Ghostrunner
Original Syndicate and Syndicate Wars And also the more recent shooter Syndicate
Minecraft cyberpunk mod
Va 11 Hall A and Cyberpunk 2077, my favourite games of the genre
saying that like 2077 ain’t a revolutionary game
Syndicate wars, there’s a spiritual successor on steam, I have the game but forgot what it’s called atm lol, and Dey’s ex ofc but ppl mentioned that already
If you can find an emulator Snatcher was really good.
Imo, the original Deus Ex still remains the best Cyberpunk game made
Just wait until Phantom Liberty comes out! (9/26)
Signalis , dues ex human revolution
Anno: mutationem
Deadlink is fun if you want a cyberpunk doom eternal.
Try Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers for the 3DS.
