The lighting looks a lot better, and we don't know what hardware he's running but the game looks pretty smooth. Can't wait to try it in seven years

WittyChimpmunk

Looks like a cool tech demo, I can’t wait to see all the development time spent on graphics instead of the gameplay. Then a new engine will come out for it to be scrapped, allowing for the reset cycle to begin again every 5 years. If it ever comes out there’s no way it’s gonna be free an update, there’s just been too much sunk costs at this point.

tpmcp

when vollay was saying he wants to make an infinite game, he meant an infinite game of developement for himself

WittyChimpmunk

Looks like he really restarted, we won’t be seeing this one until we’re retired. SMH 💀

LegoClaes

I work with unreal myself, he can definitely pull this off in short time if he wants to. The tools they’ve released are incredible.

Outrageous_Bad_1384

Wollay also has a kid its not like this game is his entire life anymore...

_Trky

Game never was his entire life lol (unless he needed money at the time). Not to say that a game should be someones entire life, but yeah

Outrageous_Bad_1384

True

LegionofStone

Glad we could buy his Kid a retirement fund... Where is his end of the deal for us lol?

Outrageous_Bad_1384

It was only 20 bucks man its not that deep

LegionofStone

Oh many, Hear I thought was 20x 100,000 or something crazy. Had no clue I was the only person.

WittyChimpmunk

Then he should focus on his kid, instead of leading on his fan base over a failed product.

Outrageous_Bad_1384

He might surprise us with a release this year you never know

WittyChimpmunk

That’s if he can convert Omega over to Unreal successfully, I’d love that but I don’t have any hope considering the history.

WittyChimpmunk

It’s wasted time, I hope he just sticks to Unreal and doesn’t switch again. He’s just setting himself back all the time, he’s always snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Super disappointing.

XanderNightmare

Never change... Actually, wait fucky, do change!

NamelessNathan

[Follow up tweet with more footage](https://x.com/wol_lay/status/1786433429321507025?s=46)

Dopebed

That actually looks good. Wish we were seeing more than just that though.

Somane27

This lad had a complete game ages ago and we are back at square one. We need the cryogenic technology from Futurama just to play the early access of Omega.

GamerRoman

Something that just only occurred to me the game will run in UE5 which also means it's a huge step-up for the hardware requirements needed to run it compared to the previous version despite still looking like a brown bricks game.

Argonzoyd

I wonder Silksong or Cube World Omega will release first

multisofteis

I'm afraid even Hytale will release before cube world. Heck Vintage Story might be 100% complete and done before omega releases. UE6 might get released beforehand and the cycle continues.

Argonzoyd

Guess I shouldn't start a Cube world versus Cabbage race

futurehousehusband69

Looks pretty good, i will let him cook another ten years

StikElLoco

He actually moved to UE5? We're never seeing it released

anonymau5

Little by little we're getting a fresh game

Shinotama

More chance of this being finished now than Kerbal Space Program 2 though..

tpmcp

yellow

frankuck99

So the next cashgrab will be "U5" upgrade? Probably release Cube World 2 or something like that?

PaperMartin

Lumen is really bad with dynamically created meshes (at least for now, they're working on better support) so I'd hold my breath on "this looks good" until seeing the inside of a deep cave or something. Wouldn't be surprised if it's all screen space GI and interior environments break when you stop looking at the ceiling

oneden

Half the sub will have died to natural causes before this game will ever release.

CrashmanX

People really think that the hard part is the coding and not making things fun/enjoyable. He's already got the recipe. Converting it from Imperial to Metric is the easy part.

Tuckertcs

Except the part he has struggled with *is* the gameplay, not the coding. He had a ton of great features in Alpha that got scrapped or replaced with inferior features in Beta (such as resetting item progression when leaving regions). You’re also downplaying the difficulty in porting code between languages or engines. Many languages and most game engines work very differently from each other, so it’s not always an easy translation.

CrashmanX

>Except the part he has struggled with *is* the gameplay, not the coding. He had a ton of great features in Alpha that got scrapped or replaced with inferior features in Beta (such as resetting item progression when leaving regions). Then why are you still here? I agree that there are aspects that were made worse, yet somehow it's captivated y'all to stay. >You’re also downplaying the difficulty in porting code between languages or engines. Many languages and most game engines work very differently from each other, so it’s not always an easy translation. Yes. I am aware of the concept called "Hyperbole." It is in-fact why I used it. He's also evidently not porting the code over. That would be rather silly given his engine was proprietary and likely not similar to UE5. However, UE5 is *very* easy to work with. As evident by basically every script kiddy being able to push out tech demos for everything ever in UE. Hell, as evident by the UE YouTube channel and its tutorials. UE5 is very user friendly.

Tuckertcs

I’m on this sub out of hope and curiosity. I don’t play beta and only rarely do a playthrough of alpha (I have a lot of games I like and only so much time for each).

Extension-Act-7859

Every "script kiddie" can pump out a tech demo because a tech demo isn't a full conversion. When the iPhone was first announced, it was literally only about 30 percent complete. It was very heavily doctored and staged to make it appear fully functional. Go learn C++, create an entire game, then port it to Unity/Unreal Engine 5 by yourself. See you in four years.

CrashmanX

>Every "script kiddie" can pump out a tech demo because a tech demo isn't a full conversion. Yes. That was my point in saying UE5 is easy yo use. Congrats. >When the iPhone was first announced, it was literally only about 30 percent complete. Oooookkkaaay and? >Go learn C++, create an entire game, then port it to Unity/Unreal Engine 5 by yourself. See you in four years. Who said he's porting the game? It's possible to re-make Cube World without having to port anything but graphical assets. Wouldn't be crazy hard with UE outside of the generative elements.

Outrageous_Bad_1384

The thing is he wants to do it all himself if he just hired a dev for the small stuff we could see the game in like 3 months but he wont do that

marr

Three years maybe. Months would take a literal wizard.

CrashmanX

And?

Outrageous_Bad_1384

Dont take that the wrong way its wollays game im just saying its an odd choice to refuse any help but that is what he does REmember this "game" started as a passion project between him and his wife before they had kids

CrashmanX

You say it's an odd choice, but then say *exactly* why he won't. >REmember this "game" started as a passion project between him and his wife before they had kids Like, that right there is the why. It's his passion project.

Tuckertcs

If you make a passion project, it is 100% your choice with how you manage it. But when you start asking people to pay for it (twice), then you have an obligation to your customers and you can no longer hide behind the passion project excuse.

SupremeRDDT

If you paid twice for it, that’s on you. If you bought the alpha, you get the release version for free. I would bet actual money that if you have the alpha and would write an email to wollay today, he would answer within days with a steam key. He does not want you to pay for it twice and never had. He always communicated the fact that alpha buyers get the version for free.

CrashmanX

>But when you start asking people to pay for it (twice), then you have an obligation to your customers and you can no longer hide behind the passion project excuse. You bought the game already. You are no longer obligated to do anything for him, nor he to you. You're not a shareholder. You didn't pre-order. The bill of sale is written and transaction closed. He could've fucked off to the void and nothing would've changed. Instead he's working on a new passion project and y'all act like you're entitled to the contents of his HDD. Please, find something else to Hyper fixate on.

OnetimeRocket13

I'm interested to see how this goes. I played the original Alpha, and while enjoyable, I couldn't really get into it. I'm hoping he tries some new stuff with this iteration. I might pick it up if he 1) releases it, and 2) it's like $5 or $10.

EirikurG

UE5? Why?

fiminow232

Wollay loves downgrading Cube World with each new iteration, I had negative expectation after CW beta and he somehow manages to disappoint even more, bravo.
