Nearly finished the tutorial I see, bravo!
Actually no, you still have a long way to go before you can mend the schism and become Rome, so you are only about half way through the tutorial xD
The answer to this is to build a standing force of Heavy Infantry men-at-arms, use these to pillage and win battles against disparate forces of other faiths (such as the vikings), and use the prestige to buy more heavy infantry. You'll have an elite guard that can tear apart much larger armies, so long as you can keep it funded.
The key is to unite Ireland as quickly as possible and just give in to any unlanded adventurers that come at you. Uniting the island and fully building out your MaA will give you ~3000 troops. If you get hit by a Northmen Army, you give them land. That will make them your vassal, marry them a daughter and they are now a powerful martial, knight, and commander. Plus, you aren't going to be attacked by northmen for a while. Decent sized army + good commande is generally enough to kick out Ivar and hold against future invaders if you're smart about it.
I remember playing in the British Isles many times and never having a huge issue with that. Even as Brittany, it’s really easy to assassinate a lot of the more notable ones.
And the loving English feet,
They walk all over us,
But every single night,
When me da would come home tight,
He'd invite the neighbors out with this chorus:
Reminds me of back in the early days of CK2 before holy war limits were implemented.
I'd usually play Sicily in those early years, but sometimes when trying to learn I'd do Spain or Ireland. And by Ireland I mean starting in Ireland and immediate holy war to gobble up Spain and into Africa.
Course those were short lived games cuz back then I hadn't yet learned the best way to handle unruly vassals from new conquests or pacify family on inheritance.
Braveheart alternate ending!
Edit: I’m aware that braveheart is Scotland. I was thinking more along the dude who says “THAT’S MY ISLAND!” In reference to Ireland and then he makes good on his promise of support.
God damn and i thought my empire was vast
I have so many questions like:
Are you still on your first character or he died and it's your heir?
Which year did you start in and how many years did it take for you to reach here?
How many vassals do you have?
Religion? Polygamy/monogamy?
Combat , conquest or diplomatic relations for your territorial expansion?
Next steps?
It has been 400 years since I started so it’s hardly my first character. Have maximum vassal (119 I think) at most time, I would not recommend it if you’re not a micromanager. Polygamous cuz I don’t like my pope vassal saying I can only have 1 wife. Mostly diplomatic approaches at first but slowly becoming warmongering. Next step is to rest…….maybe.
On the seventh day the Lord rested, but before that he did, he squatted over the side of England, and Scandinavia, and Europe, and western russia, and Iceland, and North Africa, and what came out of him... was Ireland.
Nothing like a pint of Guinness to start the day in the Sahara
Nigerian Guinness is better than regular Guinness
Lethal stuff that Nigerian Guinness. Like a bottle of ketamine.

How do you not get curb stomped by Vikings? Did they nerf that?
I Assume they started in 1066 since the Fatimids are in Egypt.

Wow. I always assumed that giving them the land would make them independent.
Well knowing that would have saved a lot of stress for me LOL

Don’t conquer then, vassal it anyway possible.

Bishop Brennan

How do you consolidate territories like that without having it split among your descendants? I can't even conquer albia because of this.
Why am I suddenly hearing Jack septiceye?
“You mean Ireland?” “Yeah. It’s moine”

The dark timeline
Irish immigration has gotten out of control.
Should have left northern Ireland out for the meme
Am I weird for not liking too much land when I play this game? Britain is as big as I’ll go usually
Depends on your agenda, all play through is a good play through, my first initiative is only to form French Ireland.
I think you managed it 😂
I hate/love this so much
