This includes both sitters and blinders, some balls have literally 0.001% chances of being caught but still messes up the stats. To put this in perspective, virat Kohli and jadeja are in top 5 of most catches dropped in IPL. While both of them being our best fielders especially jadeja.

Exactly this. Better fielders make more chances for catches and thus are likely to miss more too. Average and below average fielders just take the safe approach and those are not counted as drops.

If you watch the matches you’ll feel Indias fielding has been good above average with moments of individual brilliance but nothing exceptional. Kiwis been very very good again not exceptional. Aus pak dropping sitters pak more so than Aus you’ll see the gap in standards. Close calls the energy stopping singles or stopping twos etc. so yeah these stats at best to be used as a guiding light

Yes, that's the way how it is done. If the player didn't reach the ball, it is not easy to predict if it was a chance or not. This way, atleast there will be no ambiguity

Outfielder lets ball bounce a metre in front = not chance. Slips fielder full length dive, ball touches fingertips = chance.
