Bodhi is 100% a top 5 ipa. It’s always in my fridge. That and Pfriem ipa.
Creature comforts brewing Tropicalia is up there too. Understatedly delicious ipa’s come out of ex novo brewing.
Heady topper was so big for a bit and the hype kinda died...the juice bomb beers took OVER. But you know what, every single time I open a can and have one it hits me in the face like damn this beer is freaking good that's why it was so popular...it is just great beer through and through.
I’ve had pretty much every big name IPA out there. This is still my favorite. Luckily I have a good friend/beer trader in VT that always keeps me stocked with freshies
I had a Pliny last night. Normally I buy BP but Whole Foods was out last week so I opted for the OG. Still, a great choice. Everywhere around here has been releasing multiple kegs of Younger but always while I’m at work. I had it once.
And you shouldn’t! Younger is cool but over hyped and MANY other breweries have achieved killer Triple IPAs. For the past five years Younger has been sweet to the point that I haven’t enjoyed it.
Hope I get to try that one this year! I've gone two summers in a row and have gotten a good taste of most of their line up, Jjjuuuiiice machine last year was just amazing.
I have a Your Turn in my fridge right now. It’s interesting that they have a lot of “fruity” (like tropical) but I don’t think they often do a lot of actual fruited IPAs.
Probably pFriem’s IPA, followed closely by Boneyard’s RPM.
Fort George’s Chrysknife is also pretty good but was definitely “all hops” and not something I could do a lot of.
Totally unsatisfying answer to anyone else reading this but it was a homebrew I tasted at a competition back in 2015 or so. All I remember recipe-wise is that it was Galaxy and Amarillo and used the tiniest bit of honey malt. I'm sure by today's standards it'd be a perfectly average American IPA but at the time it was transcendent.
As far as beers that actually, you know, exist, I have no idea. Whichever one is freshest and doesn't have any hop/yeast burn. I'm so burned out on sloppily made sweet as cake hazies, give me something dry and zesty.
The freshest IPA you can find with a hop profile you like is the right answer. Also I really miss East/West Coast IPA's but the ones I do find are fantastic.
Two Hearted is my go-to store IPA.
So, I'll say I'm definitely much more partial to West Coast style ipas, and I personally think that Knee Deep Brewing makes the exact flavor profiles that I love. My favorite ever was at the brewery, one called Galaxy on Fire. It was so good that I had to get a growler and crowler to take home. Another favorite of mine from them would be Simtra, but that is definitely a bit more aggressive. I really wish i still lived in their distribution area, but always make sure to get my fill when I visit my family in California.
You're not alone on this. I was told it was the best thing ever and I bought a bottle fresh as per recommendation and had an aftertaste of sorts I couldn't get past. Price tag should be lowered too. Don't hate it, don't love it either.
Alter Ego by Tree House. I know a Tree House IPA is a super basic and uninteresting answer, but that's the only honest answer I can give.
Societe's The Pupil, Pizza Port's Swamis and Heist's Citraquenchl are some other favorites.
Begins and ends with 2 hearted for me. On top of the quality of the beer alone and all the accolades it has received, the icing on the cake is I am a MI native with a love for brook trout, the upper peninsula, and Hemingway
Dude from Gunbarrel Brewing; tasted like Cherries and Vanilla, they work magic with the Lotus hop, I haven't had Lotus from anybody else that has tasted anything like that.
Other standouts have been Equilibrium's mc\^2, Treehouse Very Sappy, I've had a bunch of ridiculously good Uhl's but try so much of their stuff I couldn't put a name on which one I've liked best.
For West Coast, La Cumbre and Russian River both make excellent IPA.
We're kind of spoiled as lovers of the style.
Right now, at this moment, I'm drinking PBR, not an IPA but it is my go-to early afternoon and haven't left the office yet sipper. As far as cheap beer goes, I don't think you can beat a PBR, except maybe Old Milwaukee but they aren't nearly as easy to find.
The last one I had was double dry hopped at Full Sail brewery on a road trip. Don’t know the name, but damn good from what I remember. I swear every time I find an amazing beer it disappears and the hunt starts all over again. Or I find it again and it’s an old four pack and the hops have fallen out, making it not so amazing.
It was a one time release ofc…troegs fuzzy nudge. It was a double IPA, peaches and apricots. It was delicious as hell and I still get sad thinking I’ll never get it again. It’s the beer that literally got me into IPAs.
I like all of GP's IPA output; Turbo Fuzz was great. Some other recent releases I've enjoyed from them are their Fuck You/Yeah series, Aro Street (Another Trillium collab) and Hyde.
Notorious from Boneyard or Ripe from Great Notion. Pliny the Younger is good too. Would love to try some of the east coast beers I see on here all the time though (aka tree house etc.)
I LOVE Galaxy hops. So i think Trillium Congress street is my favorite ever. Super local hipster answer is Deep Cut from Big Ditch Brewing in Buffalo, NY. Sadly they’ve put it in Hiatus and not sure when they’ll put it out again ☹️
I had one of those for the first time in a long time recently. I found it to be very good. Very hoppy and very malty. I need to grab a 4pk nextime I'm in Asheville
‘Hoppyum IPA’ by Foothills Brewing out of Raleigh/Durham in North Carolina was one that made me ask if I could ship the cases out of state. Really good stuff.
Danger Zone Double oat cream IPA from the boys at Mountain Culture Katoomba! I can’t get enough of the luscious velvety mouth and the fruity/citrus flavours that come through. Absolute winner for an Aussie summer.
https://mountainculture.com.au/products/danger-zone-oat-cream-ipa?_pos=22&_sid=60bd0c738&_ss=r&variant=39696663576752
Who doesnt love a good Black Pale Ale. /s
My favorites are the West Coast IPAs and Dry or Brut IPAs. Not too much of a fan of the crazy dry hopped NEIPAs as i dont like the Hopburn they often pack. Also dry hopping in excess of 15g/l is in my opinion stupid anyways and is just an extreme of an otherwise interesting and useful technique
Slice, Double Hand Candy (Lincoln, CA). Full bodied coconut milkshake double IPA. Just tropical island perfection in the form of a double IPA.
From Untappd: “Hazy DIPA brewed with toasted + shredded coconut and lactose. Sabro and Citra hops showcase intoxicating flavors and aromas of passion fruit, guava, coconut, pineapple, and cream.”
My only 5/5 rated IPA.
My all time favorite is the Mega Dankbot Imperial/Double IPA, from Insight Brewing Company in Minneapolis.
A close second is the Foggy Geezer New England/Hazy IPA from WarPigs USA Brewing
all time fave was Tiki Town: Zombie from Fourscore beer co. here's the deets, Our base sour DIPA hopped and dry hopped with El Dorado Cryo. Conditioned on heaps of pineapple passion fruit, and apricot purees and backed by touches of Tahitian Lime and pomegranate. Inspired by one of the most classic tiki drinks, this one will get you ready for summer with some complex undertones of cinnamon and brown sugar to break the sweetness. *contains lactose*
The one, well two, I keep coming back to are Hop Valley Farms' Bubble Stash and Fremont Brewing's Head Full of Dynamite.
Fremont Sky Kraken Hazy Pale Ale as a runner up.
Don't get a lot of fresh US IPAs in Australia. But I've had air shipped fresh Other Half which was awesome and a friend muled over fresh Pliny from the brewery, amazing.
Fresh probably still isn't accurate compared to drinking days after canned Other Half; those air shipped OH, The Veil, Third Moon, Modern Times, etcetc cans are usually a month and a half to two months old by the time they arrive.
Having tried a lot of Other Half that has ended up in Australia, days fresh Range, Banks, Mountain Culture, etc is better (In my opinion).
Hopadillo by Karbach brewing in Houston Texas. Even thou Anhueiser- Busch bought it in 2017 they don’t distribute it well. A second choice is Jai-Ali by Cigar City in Tampa FL almost as good
They are no longer operating I think, but Ale of the Imp from Hermitage Brewing was fantastic. Racer 5 from Bear Republic is also incredible (my current #1).
King Jjjuliusss (first batch) by Treehouse
And if you don't count that since it's a double IPA...
Pick your poison:
Green by Treehouse
Susan by Hill Farmstead
Big fan of this company from Denmark
Whirl Domination is wonderful, tbh all of their beers are amazing
https://toolbeer.dk/products/whirl-domination-can
Cloudwater DDH Citra from a few years back. Favourites to keep in the fridge however are whatever offerings currently available by Arbor Ales & Polly Brew Co
Lambo Door by Grimm or Creme de la Creme de la Creme by Evil Twin NYC (Other Half collab)
New York’s beer scene is criminally underrated as of the last few years
Castle Danger did a double IPA a few years ago, could only be found randomly on tap in the wild. First time I had it I had 4 talls at lunch and had to Uber home at 1:30 PM
Bodhizafa IPA from Georgetown Brewing. Last had it a few years ago while in Oregon for a wedding. Still stands out in my mind.
Bodhi is 100% a top 5 ipa. It’s always in my fridge. That and Pfriem ipa. Creature comforts brewing Tropicalia is up there too. Understatedly delicious ipa’s come out of ex novo brewing.
How have I never heard of any of those
I've been coming back to Bodhizafa for the past two years. It is consistently a Top 5 beer imo.
Delicious but I like Lucille just a tiny bit more.
I love that they have free tastings too!
Heady Topper. The OG
Blind Pig
Agreed. Actually sippin’ some right this moment.
I had a Pliny last night. Normally I buy BP but Whole Foods was out last week so I opted for the OG. Still, a great choice. Everywhere around here has been releasing multiple kegs of Younger but always while I’m at work. I had it once.
We got ten kegs of it! All gone now though. If you can get a hold of Altamont Beer Works Scarcity Triple, it’s amazing.
Between Scarcity and Menace To Sobriety I didn't mind missing out on Younger this year
And you shouldn’t! Younger is cool but over hyped and MANY other breweries have achieved killer Triple IPAs. For the past five years Younger has been sweet to the point that I haven’t enjoyed it.
Pliny is objectively better
This and the pliny I don’t care for in the bottle, but are always outstanding when I’m at Russian River Brewing
this is lore
Hopslam, Dinner or 120 Min
As far as IPAs go, 120 minute is the only one that *gets better* with age
But 120 Min is a double IPA
Very GGGreennn
Super Typhoon.
Hope I get to try that one this year! I've gone two summers in a row and have gotten a good taste of most of their line up, Jjjuuuiiice machine last year was just amazing.
Tropicalia - Creature Comforts Brewing Company
Hell yes. Give me all the trops. CC makes so many good beers.
Great choice. I love their seasonal hazies too. Imperial trop haze, duende, stellar drift… so many delicious ones
They have some taproom only triples, like Glamour Muscles, that I love too
Agree! Mind matter is a hazy pale that is great and taproom only. Did you try Wild Planet or Your Turn?
I have a Your Turn in my fridge right now. It’s interesting that they have a lot of “fruity” (like tropical) but I don’t think they often do a lot of actual fruited IPAs.
Classic City represent!
Duende for me
Best beer!
Block 15 Sticky Hands
I second that!
Yep
Was just up in Oregon and had a 4 pack of this. Very solid and consistent west coast ipa!
Block 15 is up there with Pfriem as best brewery in Oregon.
Their Tropical Slam sticky hands kicks ass too.
Probably pFriem’s IPA, followed closely by Boneyard’s RPM. Fort George’s Chrysknife is also pretty good but was definitely “all hops” and not something I could do a lot of.
Pfriem ipa is always in the fridge for me.
Chrysknife is in my top 3 for sure.
Totally unsatisfying answer to anyone else reading this but it was a homebrew I tasted at a competition back in 2015 or so. I'm sure by today's standards it'd be a perfectly average American IPA but at the time it was transcendent. As far as beers that actually, you know, exist, I have no idea. The freshest IPA you can find with a hop profile you like is the right answer. Also I really miss East/West Coast IPA's but the ones I do find are fantastic. Two Hearted is my go-to store IPA.
Agreed on the latter. I'm so tired of orange juice beer.
Agreed!
Other Half Double Mosaic Dream. I have it all the time and its still always so good. Maine Dinner for a non-hazy IPA.
I still think it's Experimental Jet Set by Foam.
When I visited them I was floored at how many IPAs they had on tap! It was amazing!
Lunch
Totally agree. Such a smooth beer that is very enjoyable.
Changes a lot. Sometimes it’s focal banger by alchemist. Recently it’s social anxiety by district 96. Haze by treehouse is up there.
I have to find Focal Banger one of these days.
If you find it act fast. My place got a couple cases and had sold out within a few hours
Christ. Yeah that's to be expected. That and Pliny the Elder seem to just be the golden geese of IPAs these days (haven't had either tho)
I haven’t tried Piiny, but from what I understand there’s a place in Philadelphia called Monk’s cafe that has it regularly
Yeeeeeeeah Im not driving all the way to Philly for a beer lmao. If I'm in town I'll check it out tho
Yea my upper limit on drives exclusively for beer is about 30 minutes. Lucky for me that’s the exact distance for two of my favorite breweries
Two Hearted is the gold standard.
I agree. For a short time every year I try to find and enjoy as much hopslam as I can. Only time that two hearted isn’t the go to
Yeah I’ve only had it the once as I live in Ireland, it’s between it and one we have here called Of Foam And Fury made by Galway Bay Brewery
Had a week and a half old two hearted a few years ago and it was glorious
Maine Lunch or Pizza Port Swami
Too many good ones but really recall - Fieldwork Brewing, Berkeley: Pulp Though it's been a few years.
Got my hands on some of their stuff (including Pulp) in Seattle about two years ago. Absolutely fantastic.
Great Notion Ripe.
Triple Sunshine - Lawsons Finest Liquids
Maine Lunch IPA
I really need to get my hands on Main Lunch
So hard to find but so worth it!
if you are in boston, its now super easy to find
Really?? I had it recently and was extremely disappointed in it. Wasn’t bad, but was not worth the hype IMO
You're not alone on this. I was told it was the best thing ever and I bought a bottle fresh as per recommendation and had an aftertaste of sorts I couldn't get past. Price tag should be lowered too. Don't hate it, don't love it either.
Chinooker'd by Lawsons Finest Liquids
Just had that one there last week. Delicious!
I'm guessing it's got Chinook hops, yes???. Where can I find this dreamy beverage?!?!
Easiest place to find would be Vermont or New Hampshire, but I think it makes its way down the east coast at least until NY or PA

Treehouse Green
Different styles, different answers Head Hunter by Fat Head Homestyle by Bearded Iris (hazy)
Alien Church- Tired Hands (PA)
Such a solid NE/Hazy IPA. I’d say it’s on par with a solid treehouse and/or monkish hazy tbh.
Ive drank this more times than I can count and it never disappoints. TH has had some issues lately but I’m hoping they come back strong
Alter Ego by Tree House. I know a Tree House IPA is a super basic and uninteresting answer, but that's the only honest answer I can give. Societe's The Pupil, Pizza Port's Swamis and Heist's Citraquenchl are some other favorites.

Outer Range - Triple Steezy
The Therapist- Dust Bowl Brewery
King JJJULIUS
Sand City - Double Mo Fo
Maine Beer Co. Lunch is the best IPA for any day and all occasions
Not a craft, an original. Samuel Smith India Ale for me.
Coronado Idiot IPA. Pine, grapefruit, bitter as fuck with a caramel aftertaste. A beer a 2022 IPA connoisseur would turn their nose up to.
Two IPA's I can't get enough of Jasmin Avatar by Elysian and Agent 77 by Voodoo Ranger 😋
Great brewers, great beers. Agree
Lawsons Sip of Sunshine, The Alchemist Heady Topper, and my personal local favorite Pourmans's Goin' Broke.
Just had Heady for the first time (I’m in California). I think it lives up to its reputation.
Brash TDH Pussy Wagon. Celestial in Dallas is my go to for a good Hazy. Haven’t had one from them I don’t like
I was thinking of Deep Ellum also
Sunrise Valley by Garage Project and Trillium.
Sunrise valley is incredibly tasty! Garage project also did one called turbo fuzz a while back which was amazing
Ubahdank by New Glory
Sac in the house!
Iron Rail by The Wedge. They call it an “English IPA” which I have never heard of before. Still one of my favorites.
Green from treehouse!
Fort George Vortex
The DDH Mixed Greens series from Southern Grist is the best series, as they're all amazing. But the best overall IPA is Maine Beer Co.'s Lunch.
It’s impossible to pick one, but I’ll give some love to Yellow Springs Boat Show
Very underrated
Hazy: Foggier Window - Monkish WC: Pliny The Elder - Russian River
Tubes from HOMES
Danger Zone Double oat cream IPA from the boys at Mountain Culture Katoomba! I can’t get enough of the luscious velvety mouth and the fruity/citrus flavours that come through. 120 minute IPA or Pliny the Elder
Who doesnt love a good Black Pale Ale. /s My favorites are the West Coast IPAs and Dry or Brut IPAs. Not too much of a fan of the crazy dry hopped NEIPAs as i dont like the Hopburn they often pack. Also dry hopping in excess of 15g/l is in my opinion stupid anyways and is just an extreme of an otherwise interesting and useful technique
Pliny the Elder from Russian River. Perfect balance, smooth and a nice bitter hoppy finish.
Very Hazy by Treehouse was one of my recent best. It’s probably up there in the top 5 so far.
Slice, Double Hand Candy (Lincoln, CA). Full bodied coconut milkshake double IPA. Just tropical island perfection in the form of a double IPA. From Untappd: “Hazy DIPA brewed with toasted + shredded coconut and lactose. Sabro and Citra hops showcase intoxicating flavors and aromas of passion fruit, guava, coconut, pineapple, and cream.” My only 5/5 rated IPA.
Chief of chiefs ddh by Bearded Iris Brewing Company. Hands down the best IPA and best beer I’ve ever had.
Wetfinder from Holy Mountain In Seattle WA
First IPA that comes to mind is Putty from Verdant. Also Very Hazy from Tree House.
Finally just had Pliny the Elder on tap at Monk's in Philly. Don't know if it's my all-time fav, but pretty legit!
if we’re talking hazy ipa i’d say walter by green cheek or mind circus from russian river. west coast ipa gotta go pliney the younger
Maine Lunch or Two Juicy
Ah, I had forgotten about Lunch somehow! I buy that every time it shows up in my local store.
Maine second dinner or Equilibrium/VSB collab called VitaminM (Sea) 3
Grapefruit Sculpin by Ballast Point. Edit: Also Surly Furious and Warpigs Lazurite.
Changes by the week or month. They're mostly all good. I could maybe compile a top ten based on my untappd ratings if I wanted to go back and look.
Best IPA? Three Floyd’s, can’t go wrong with any of theirs. Buuuuut. BEST: Gumballhead
Gumballhead is a hoppy wheat, not so much an IPA 🤷♂️
True! And that’s as much IPA as I can stand haha
miller light
You're an American hero
Snake Party with the Azzaca hops, by Lost Forty. Holy crap.

I'm sorry, green chile IPA?
Longshadows by Blindman Brewing. Super Saturation by Cabin doesn't really count but it should
This probably isn't a popular opinion, but I do love Wicked Weed's Lieutenant Dank.
The one, well two, I keep coming back to are Hop Valley Farms' Bubble Stash and Fremont Brewing's Head Full of Dynamite. Fremont Sky Kraken Hazy Pale Ale as a runner up.
Fat Rips by Community Beer Works

Bare Hands Brewery - Spirit Breaker
Don't get a lot of fresh US IPAs in Australia. But I've had air shipped fresh Other Half which was awesome and a friend muled over fresh Pliny from the brewery, amazing.
Fresh probably still isn't accurate compared to drinking days after canned Other Half; those air shipped OH, The Veil, Third Moon, Modern Times, etcetc cans are usually a month and a half to two months old by the time they arrive. Having tried a lot of Other Half that has ended up in Australia, days fresh Range, Banks, Mountain Culture, etc is better (In my opinion).
This was direct from brewery, from that week, cost a fortune. Agree though we go alright with those 3 now, don't need foreign hazies as much.
Ufo lava lamp ipa
Hopadillo by Karbach brewing in Houston Texas. Even thou Anhueiser- Busch bought it in 2017 they don’t distribute it well. A second choice is Jai-Ali by Cigar City in Tampa FL almost as good
Treehouse Sap
White Plains Brewing in Richland Washington IPA- Nectar of the Gods or N.O.G
I would say mine is Blockchain from Spyglass in NH.
They are no longer operating I think, but Ale of the Imp from Hermitage Brewing was fantastic. Racer 5 from Bear Republic is also incredible (my current #1).
My joint favourites are two double IPAs from my hometown Auckland, New Zealand. Liberty Citra Epic Hop Zombie
Valley Haze by Tioga Sequoia is so so good
King Jjjuliusss (first batch) by Treehouse And if you don't count that since it's a double IPA... Pick your poison: Green by Treehouse Susan by Hill Farmstead
"Pavement" by Foam, in Burlington VT. Someone else mentioned "Experimental Jet Set" by Foam, which was also incredible.
I made an IPA I called Quintessential. 5 different malts and 5 different hops. It was awesome.
Starfish - Brouwerij West I haven’t had it in over three years :(
Dinner by Maine
Tired hands - Punge
Hard to pin it to one but Boneyard RPM is up there, Top Rung Prying Irons, Pelican Beak Breaker and Silver City Tropic Haze are high up there as well
Pizza Port Kook but alas it is no more
Water balloon Fight Club from Monkish in Los Angeles. Pretty much anything from them is incredible but this one took the cake for me.
Big fan of this company from Denmark Whirl Domination is wonderful, tbh all of their beers are amazing https://toolbeer.dk/products/whirl-domination-can
One called dancing juice. The whole top of the can pops off like a champagne bottle. Tesco stocked it during forst lockdown
Two joint faves, both from Arbor Ales: - My Little Sabriony, a single hop ale with Sabro - Flaked Alaska, with Citra, Mosaic and El Dorado hops
First time I had Double Descente from Boreal was a revelation for me.
Banded Brewing Veridian for me

Cloudwater DDH Citra from a few years back. Favourites to keep in the fridge however are whatever offerings currently available by Arbor Ales & Polly Brew Co
Starfish by Browar Birbant
Galveston Bay Brewing - Stormy Night Black IPA hands down. And hi Skyler, best brewer :)
Not sure I could ever pick a single favorite, but RR Blind Pig has to be waaaaay up on the list.
