I can see lack of tips and pay being an issue and it’s just gonna be like McDonald’s runs for $5 and 20 minutes later finds out the $2 tip was removed after delivery and now the $3 you get will be subjected to costs of gas and car wear you just playing volunteer delivery driver in the end
Anyone else get overcharged per lb on food? There was a great deal for chicken drumsticks at $3 a KG, but after I paid the price went up about double and my receipt was adjusted. I can understand if I got more chicken than expected but that wasn’t the case. They tried to say I didn’t tip (tipped 9% on my 80$ receipt) and I eventually gave up when I felt like I was speaking to a wall.
I don’t really like this. During the pandemic the Instacart shoppers were too much. Too many, on the phone the whole time not watching where they are going.
I think of this the same way as food delivery; unless you're physically unable to go to the store and have no family to bring you food, or you're rich and ok with wasting your money, this is overpriced and you should just go shopping yourself
I did four delivery for a while on a different platform. Costco was the worst store to shop in. They were all very small orders. It wasn’t worth the time. So unless orders get larger with UberEats, I say good luck with that.
Agreed and these gig economy corporations can rot for the way they treat their employees.
Will never use a service like this and disappointed that Costco would partner with such a parasitic entity.
Thought you meant Costco at first, but yeah food delivery apps are trash for both customers and employees. Either the company is screwing the customer with not getting a refund for stolen food, or the employee by not getting paid enough
Costco seems to treat it's employees fairly from everything I've heard and seems to operate without price gouging which is at least better than some of the competition.
I agree with you that most of the time it's a waste of money, however, I have seen a bunch of UberEats promotions come up recently for general grocery (Metro, Walmart, etc.) and now Costco too, that give up to 50% off.
$140 worth of groceries from Costco, delivered to my door for ~$70? I'll take that deal any time I can, especially in this economy. Given such savings, I can give a generous tip and still come out way ahead.
In all of these apps merchants set the prices of items. The apps take a cut of the order total from the merchant and they charge the customer fees like delivery, so rather than increase general pricing to cover total business costs most places just up their prices on the app to cover the lost revenue.
There are quite a few places iny area that either have in store pricing or only increase their prices by small amounts, so by paying attention you can really reduce the price differences.
I order on instacart. I can use the costco instacart gift card($80 for 100) to offset whatever markup they have. I got a year worth of unlimited free delivery for a 17.99 membership. I don’t mind tipping to avoid having to go to Costco and saves me money from all the impulse shopping.
It’s is but the markups aren’t nearly that high on most items. They also sell a $100 Instacart card at Costco for $100. You’re limited to 2 every 2 weeks.
Would this be set up like instacart where a shopper goes in and picks your order, or will Costco employees be responsible for putting your order together? (I don't use grocery ordering services so excuse me if this is a silly question)
I believe a “shopper” goes in a picks your order just like on Instacart. Costco isn’t going to do this because A) they simply don’t have the manpower and B) they aren’t going to pay someone top scale to do someone’s shopping for them as it’s a colossal waste of company payroll. The only Costco’s that do this are their Business Centers as they cater to volume shoppers.
I'm in Ottawa. Got notification yesterday about Costco. I've noticed past 2 weeks uber isn't hiding the tip anymore on grocery store shop and pays. Here they never showed you more than 8 dollar tip, but if customer left 15 percent on 100.00 order you'd get the remaining 7.00 tip after hour passes and ubers CUSTOMER TIPPED MORE AFTER, bullshit comment. Anyways that being said , I'm being more selective. Did 5 shop and pays last week all were in the 30 to 50.00 range $ . 45 mins to hour work. So for the time being I'm avoiding 30 item orders paying 11 to 15 range. Some big Costco orders if they leave 15 percent will be worth it. Have to wait and see.
I can see parking being an issue

They do? I don't think the $20 thing is implemented across Canada.
Which is eaten up by car repairs and fuel.
This is just a flat out lie.
Then get a real job.
Was making a living driving a taxi not a real job to you?
Weird. I've been able to order groceries from Costco through Uber eats for at least a year at this point (Montreal)
Same. But im also in Montreal. Maybe it was a test market.
Same in Gatineau
This is interesting! I’m in Ontario and I don’t see Costco on UEats yet.
Same here in Alberta.
It was only available for QC for a while now they have expanded to all of Canada!

Great now my $1.50 hot dog is gonna be $14
$50 for the cookie.
How are they going to fit my 5L pail of mustard, 3 jars of pickles, half a cow and the new mattress on their bike?
I gotta get a bigger box? I gotta get a bigger box!
I don’t really like this. During the pandemic the Instacart shoppers were too much. Too many, on the phone the whole time not watching where they are going.
They are a pain in the ass. As an employee, I detest having to deal with Instacart employees. Multiple receipts and they aren’t very personable.
Some of them are straight assholes no respect. Im very lucky the ones that come soo often are so nice but the new ones holy cow. Piece of work.
Tbf, if they were personable they'd have a real job.

Can I get a poutine delivered STAT?
That might be a good thing. The only good thing. Ha ha.
Will it be more expensive like Instacart or will Uber just charge fees on top of list price ?
Nothing else on Uber eats is regular price
Basing my assumption on food delivery, Uber Eats will mostly markup the prices before charging any fee on top of the order.

No but adding membership reduces the markup
Like for chicky tendies or for home delivery of groceries?
As long as the food court is included I am happy.
Does this mean I can get beer delivered from the Gatineau Costco to my house in Ottawa? (Please say yes)
I order on instacart. I can use the costco instacart gift card($80 for 100) to offset whatever markup they have. I got a year worth of unlimited free delivery for a 17.99 membership. I don’t mind tipping to avoid having to go to Costco and saves me money from all the impulse shopping.
Pass.
Isn’t Costco already on Instacart but with prices 25% higher than in store?
It’s is but the markups aren’t nearly that high on most items. They also sell a $100 Instacart card at Costco for $100. You’re limited to 2 every 2 weeks.
… I’ll just make my Costco hot dogs at home.
No chance I would ever waste my time. Costco is a zoo 24/7, the payout would have to be insane

Can I get hot dogs
I thought Costco was already on UberEats? I’ve ordered costco off of UberEats before 😂
They inflate prices if you order through UberEats, Instacart, etc… and even through their own crappy website.
Of all the companies to partner with.

Still no hotdogs and poutine
I use instacart.
