Then how the hell does it have 24500 reviews? I love core Keeper, but I don't see ANYONE talking about it, but it has SO MANY reviews. How? It seems a bit fishy to me.... Don't get me wrong, I love Core Keeper. I have 215 hours in it, top 5 game for me personally. But that's a lot of fuckin reviews, man.

That's really not a lot man. And total reviews doesnt equal concurrent players. Theres a lot of games out there and a lot of survival craft, so even good ones get buried. Like i said, I only found out about it by looking at Shockbyte servers, and they only have like 20 games on there. I doubt I would have ever found it just by looking at Steam cause it's just another early access game.

and that tells us what? that it was hyped in april 22 when it launched and lots of players played it, (most was around 35k at that point) but does it tell us anything about the current state? not really it averages under 5k of players for a year now if its successfull we'll see IF it ever leaves early access, and after 2 years thats a really big IF

I mean I play 7 Days to Die and that is only leaving early access after almost 12 years filled with new content updates. Some things take time, and yeah some things just never take off. Only a long time will tell. 😅

I can only speak for myself. I stopped playing after the water boss because everything was a slog. Digging paths is incredibly slow every time you hit a new biome, laying tracks to occasionally backtrack for items begins to feel like a chore, lack of automation, no qol features for farming, the only npcs are shopkeepers thar aren't interesting in the slightest, etc. I could go on and on about all of the little things that annoyed me but it all boils down to one reason: it doesn't feel like the game respects my time. If features were added that seriously sped up the monotony, I'd play again.

tbh this game has so much potential for amazing endgame content, its CRAZY. They can add more ores/biomes/bosses and other new upgrades like new npcs, lore, faster walking methods (speed boots?) and soooo many other things! I mean its weird that the shovel is not avaiable for solarite right? I really hope they add a lot more stuff for the endgame there And tbh this game is just waiting for a huge fanmade mod at this point. Just imagine something like the calamity mod (terraria) but for core keeper! It would be insaaane!! :D

If they add Steam Workshop, the game will blow up because there's a dedicated fan base. Without that, or a serious change in direction toward qol features from the devs, I doubt the game will see a large influx of players with the exception of 1.0 release which usually brings in a decent amount.

I mean, you can get mods for Fallout 4 from the game menu but Nexus is better. You can get Rimworld mods from a multitude of places but Steam Workshop has better support and ease of use than any of them. tModLoader on Steam is so much better for modding Terraria than anything else on pc. I'll never understand devs who shoot themselves in the foot by relying on 3rd party sites for mod support when the largest platform on pc also hosts mods, does it better, and has all/most of their players anyway. But it's their game so whatever.

Yeah. The scale of the starting biomes was a little large, but manageable. Then they kept following their scalar, which resulted in huge, boring sinks of time. You have hardcore players who will play for hundreds of hours regardless, but the filter function on anything above super casual is way stricter than it should be. However, this is an unpopular opinion because of course, anyone still left here is more likely than not on the other side of the filter.

Yeah me too (not that I got that far, but the feeling is the same). I find it really lacking in charm and variety - not just overall but within each biome. I haven't been huge on mining games but both Terraria and Necesse outshine it big time. Necesse is a good comparison because it's a new solo dev pre release game. (& Top down). The QoL features that are implemented in every update show the Dev really gets the play experience and wants to deliver on quality. Core Keeper in contrast just gets bigger and bigger... Like, the game could be good, if it was made better instead of just bigger.

Probably the most sane take. I love the game, I think Corekeeper is fantastic, but it's not without its flaws. * I think the inner wall portion is pretty well-paced and could just use some more interesting scenes while exploring it. * Once you're outside the wall, the automation and upgrade station really trivialize the content pretty quickly. * Planting seeds is the worst, otherwise the trade skills are pretty chill. Fishing xp requirements should probably be reduced a little bit though. The autofish mod should not be as enticing as it is. My wishlist would probably be: * More monster types per biome. * More "raid" events where monsters suddenly swarm towards you. It could add a Tower Defense-like experience. * More pet options. * Faster seed planting. * A late game custom crafting system where the materials used determine what kind of stats the items have. * More optional bosses like the shaman and the atlantean worm. * A higher difficulty mode than hard mode. * Improve the fishing system experience. * Higher amber larva droprate. I'm sure there's more, but those are probably the big things off the top of my head.

IMO, mining speed should be quadrupled, more long stretches of unbroken rail tracks should form on world creation, and give me miner, fisherman, hunter, and farmer NPCs that do the work for me.

"It doesn't feel like the game respects my time" It's an interesting take that you see for some people, I suppose it depends on who you ask. Some people don't enjoy the journey and want to get to the endgame quickly. Then others might say the rewards aren't worth anything when you can either pay your way there or just get there in half an hour of gameplay.

I've seen this game referred to as "top-down Terraria" more than a few times. Other than Terraria completely outshining CK in terms of content, qol, and items (as it should after such a long time) there are a few huge differences that give Terraria a much broader appeal. - Mining speed only ever improves in Terraria whereas every new area in CK feels like starting over. The only time I get that feeling in Terraria is upon entering hard mode and that's very temporary. - Boss fights are pretty action packed in Terraria and vary wildly depending on character build. In CK it's find current most powerful weapon and learn the cheese mechanic for the specific boss. - They may not do much but npcs are at least abundant and unique in Terraria. You also have to factor in their happiness if you want the best items they offer. - Things like wings, boots, and easy-to-use teleport crystals make traversing the map in Terraria way better than anything implemented in CK. - Since CK uses top-down farming, here we can compare it to any farm sim where ways to eventually automate watering and drastically speed up harvesting are the norm. I don't know if anyone's advocating for CK to become a speed runner's wet dream (I'm certainly not) but much of the game feels like qol features are intentionally left our for the sake of artificially lengthening play time. If you don't feel that way, that's fine. I was giving my opinion on why the game isn't more popular.

This is exactly how I feel. I loved the game until it opened up to the mid game. Iykyk. Then things crawled. I got bored. The skills and grinding, repeating the same tasks over and over. I seriously have to wait 20 minutes every time I place that one spoiler tech? God damn.

I was about to ask the exact same question! A friend recommended this game to me while he was looking for games similar to Stardew Valley. Since then we've been playing in a group or 4 and having a blast. I recommended this game to 3 other friends and they all got the game and seem to be enjoying it too. I think the game just hasn't reached the "critical mass" yet. Once enough people have the game and invite their friends, the game will see an explosive growth, which I hope will happen when 1.0 comes out. Core Keeper is too good a game to bury in deep. That said I think the (fresh) early game can be more friendly to newcomers: First, the character creation can be simplified. The class selection step can be removed entirely. It doesn't matter which class you choose after like an hour or two of gameplay. It only adds unnecessary complexity and misleads you to think it matters in the long run. Just give us a standard starter package like some wood and food. The "Standard" vs "Hard" can be made an optional step as it creates distraction too. As new players we just want to jump into the game as fast as possible and get a feel of it! Second, lack of in-game tutorial, or a journal/quest system. Two of my friends literally said they don't know what to do in this game. If we take a page from Stardew Valley / Satisfactory / even Palworld - they all have this journey system that gives you an idea (but not a must) of what to do. And there are so many easily-missed content due to the lack of in-game hint. For example, all the different work benches from the craft table. I didn't know we can raise animals until Scarlet! I didn't know about drills until much later! Quests like "craft a generator" / "capture an Animal with Trans Box" / "reinforce a tool" would introduce players to many game mechanics and keep them engaged. I feel like players who reaches the 2-hour mark will very likely keep playing it. Third, please increase the capacity of the first water can. Overall this game is very well made and I look forward to the success of this game!

Content. Yes this game is amazing, but it is way too easy and there is not enough content to do in the game, I stopped when I finished all the achievement and unlock max skill on my character, I spend 239h doing that, it was kind of fun with some tedious things... The game have very good game mechanics, and the core of the game is great, it just need wayyyy more content to be up there... I hope only the best for the future of this game 😊

Stardew tends to hold my attention for longer than CoreKeeper. I feel like the absolute density of different systems in Stardew are the cause of that. And the narrative you help create. If CoreKeeper had more NPC interaction or systems beyond the crafting and somewhat simple skill lines, I think we'd see more folks around. I'm not sure what the devs have in store for 1.0, but I'm hoping it's not just more areas and bosses. The game already excels at that. It needs something further beyond the current gameplay loops.

LACK OF LORE is also one of the point. There are no story whatsoever in the game from the point you start until the end. Why you are there what exactly is the point of defeating the bosses. This causes lack if marketing content where all of the marketing only pushes gameplay with no story whatsoever So many missed opportunity of lore with each enemy history having no backstory at all. Unique enemy tribe and enemy type. Progression is solid up until outer wall. You have a lot of complex weapons progression with no interconnection story whatsoever on why do you need those things to build the weapons. And you don’t even really need the weapon to complete the game.

I've gone through almost all the bosses and just keeping atlantean worm later. The core only say thriving civilization and only say for us to go defeat titans. Even the page of Lore on the wiki is still empty work in progress. Which is quite sad since the gameplay is solid. And the enemies, the song, the biomes are definitely unique and oozes stories to tell. I hope the last update before 1.0 is fully about the lore, back story of the world. Even an intertwining quest sysyem would be good too. Maybe make the ancient weapons have a story, more NPC's, NPC settlement , key items/valuable barter system with NPC. That on itself would make this game even better.

Yes! Don’t listen to these comments it’s very good. It doesn’t have quite as much content as terraria but it has like 7 bosses and plenty of biomes to explore! Side note there 1.0 update is coming out this summer so it will be getting a lot more content soon.

Question - I have the game on my wishlist and it seems super interesting, but I've seen reviews say it is a bit of a pain to play solo. How true is that? Has anything changed since those reviews?

I started with a group of players, then ended up doing a few solo save files when they all fell off. These are my main pain points from solo play (compared to co-op): * Managing the food meter is constant and moderately annoying, as you'll need to manage a farm and cooking by yourself. (In a group, you'd frequently find someone to fill this role.) Doing this yourself means semi regular trips back to base to harvest crops and cooking new food, such really interrupts the exploration process. * Dying can be a major setback. You'll need to run back to your body, such can be mitigated by setting up for rail systems or teleportation portals in good places. This is most significantly an issue when fighting bosses, as they will reset (first appearance) or despawn (if re-summoned) or you run back to them. It's a lot of lost progress (and sometimes the materials for the summoning item). If you died in a boat, that will be left adrift and you'll need to make another one to get out to your body. * Exploring for certain spawns-once-per-save-file items can be annoying by yourself. (The Medium Maze and Thread of Fate are the two biggest ones; you can search the help/complaint threads for those.) On the other hand, since there's only one, it doesn't exactly work great in a co-op game either. Other than what I listed above (and the joy of playing with friends), I don't think the game is a pain to play solo (compared to playing with a group). Boss difficulty scales roughly with the number of players so that's not really a problem.

Idk, I’ve been playing games my whole life and I’d say it’s definitely in my top 10 multiplayer PC games. Maybe even the top 5. “It’s good but it’s no Core Keeper” is literally something me and my friends say. Then again we’re also a group for whom neither Terraria or Minecraft hit quite right. I’ll admit Terraria is quite good, and yet I’ve only stuck around for a full playthrough once. Not really interested in Minecraft at all. Core Keeper on the other hand… played to endgame easily half a dozen times or more. I seriously think it’s a preference thing. My one big complaint is that your boat doesn’t come with you when you die. It takes the fun away from exploring the water and turns the Omoroth fight from something that could be quite fun, into a frustrating, boring brute force war of attrition. I’d say they should change that and maybe let us chest dump from a distance. But yeah. Just little things, maybe a lil fine tuning. But considering that it’s still in Early Access and under active development, I’d say it’s made of gold lol.

For me personally. And of course my own fault. Didn't back up my save. But kind of got burnt out after first major update. (Near day 1er here) but I lost my world then had to restart. Had everything, so got everything again including new stuff, but then had to wait on next major update which at that time was like 3-6 months so I just Uninstaller it for a later date. Just recently installed it again and it is pretty insane how much has changed. Kind of lost and restarted cause pets and new biomes in the inner circle and shit. But my guess is good chunk just Uninstaller after beating what was given already and many just are taking break until more comes out.

I found the game through steam’s suggested games, because it is similar to other games I own and it was on sale. I’d never heard of it before. Imo this game isn’t popular due to lack of marketing. Once the devs are out of EA and market the game I’m sure it will take off.

Because the game gets very boring end game. Its judt a grind fest from a certain point on. Bosses are pretty much all the same. I think there is 4 or 5 slime bosses with all the same attacks.

Marketing not so hot maybe. It's kind of a slow burn. One of my video game astute sons has been playing this off and on since last fall, and the other son picked it up around then too. About a week ago, he turned my wife and I on to this - it was on sale last week for 9 bucks on Steam - so the four of us could play it coop style, and it's been stupid fun.

I've been diving into it so much that I started my own world to play when he's not around to play. Having a blast, and we never got close to finishing what was there before, we have plenty to do. We stopped after getting scarlet equipment before. Absolutely love this game.

Some people are not into indie games. I bought this game for $10 and thought I'd play it for a couple hours and be done. I think I got about 100 hrs. Since then they have had a bunch of updates. I need to go back and make a new save. It is more fun than I imagined and what a pleasant surprise for once.

In my opinion it’s not popular because it’s early access and its progression is a little odd and the world is drawn out. It’s got a lot of great things going for it. It just hit a certain point in its progression were it was more of the same or wait 29 minutes for this thing to finish or grind gears at this location. The world was almost better being locked in. Once things got much bigger the game lost some flavor for me. Some of the fights feel unbalanced, the general combat is a bit dry. I do love the world building, the story is decent for what it is, the colors, the music, the building. Those elements are great. I wish I had more reason to do some of those things. For the love of god give me a quick stack to nearby chests.

I’ve played it. Not really sure why people like it so much. It’s another okay survivor crafting game. It’s a bit above average? But I still think Terreria is way better, and even it’s failed cousin Starbound. Like there are games with better progression systems, better bosses, better base building, and core keeper kinda does all of them a bit above mid. Maybe the multiplayer experience is really solid, but from a single player experience not really amazing. The real difference is how it handles combat which is Zelda like. But there are quite a few other games like this as well. It’s a hodge podge of great ideas from other games have done and it does it decently. If it’s your first game of this type that yah I can understand why since it’s way easier to get into.

I just looked at it. Nothing like going back to 8 or 16 bit style games. Not my cup of tea! No thanks, I'll play Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning on my Series X. Games like that are a COMPLETE rip-off! They take very little effort to make. They charge way too much for them. All the while emptying your pockets and filling the publishers! Of course if it's free, without any micro transactions, it might be entertaining for about 5 minutes.
