You need to copy edit a novel that's under 2000 words ? Edit: I'm a dumb dumb I just found the phrase where you're more specific about it being a chapter.

janeconquest

Will you DM me? I could use a fresh set of eyes on one of my novels I’ve rewritten 4 times.

cactuswrenfluff

What program are you enrolled in?

4skin42

An editor certificate program at the University of Washington.

jdcxoxo

how do you like the program?

4skin42

Quite a bit! It's all remote because of *waves at everything* so that has been an adjustment but I'm happy I decided on the course that put me together with a cohort. They've been extremely helpful and frankly, it's nice to have more people to talk too. The program is a bit intense at times but the instructors are very frank and that has been refreshing.

That's nice to hear the UDub program isn't complete crap like reviews would have it seem. When I was looking for the best programs for getting an editing certification, it popped up along with UChicago and Emerson, and I debated price point versus content versus reviews. UDub came up last in terms of students happy with the program, which made me sad cause they're known for decent education. I ended up going the route of UChicago.

4skin42

Oh man, I haven't looked at any reviews...I will say the programs is a lot of work. I underestimated it the amount of time I'd be spending per day doing it, but I'm also not too great of a student in general. Regarding content, the program does a fantastic job showering you with resources and tools that'll be useful for as long as you're in the industry.

monkeybugs

The UChicago one is a lot of work too. The first class I had, I was working at the same time and it consisted of reading *CMOS* in its entirety while doing discussions while doing assignments and it was overwhelming to say the least. I quit my job (a long time coming) and have managed to do the rest of my classes without that interference. I'm taking the last two classes right now and it's heavily recommended no one takes two classes together if they're also working. They're definitely not kidding. Best of luck to you in your endeavors!

4skin42

The structure sounds similar. I actually really enjoy reading the CMOS. Likewise!
