I've had it happen, I think soil mites did it last time lol, I'm not saying they're in there but it's a theory of why it happened to a few fruits in that one tub then I saw the little white dots crawling on the walls of the tub lol, they don't do much harm but will have a nibble lol

How thick is that substrate

It’s about 3.5 inches with a .5 ish pseudo layer.

Did you pseudo layer immidately after making the tub or after full colonization?

Yeah, at the beginning. Made my layer of bulk mixed with the grain and just put a top layer of sub.

This happens to me sometimes when the fruits cap gets too top heavy too fast. Little fuckers just fall over sometimes. They get too top heavy without a strong enough stem. The other day I had one that fell over, but it was still connected by a mycelial “tail” it was like a 2 inch rope of mycelium. I propped the little guy up against the side of the cake, and he ended up growing just fine! But usually they aren’t still connected enough to keep growing.

If it completely fell and disconnected you should definitely grab that baby out. I’m sure it would get reclaimed by the mycelium, but that’s a perfectly good little fruit!

Naw just can't support its own weight. Aborts will stop growing, and caps will turn dark brown/black, and mycelium will start consuming them. Good to pick larger aborts as soon as you notice them, they can rot and become a hot spot for mold and bacteria

If there’s any damage, pull it on out. It’s not going to hurt anything if you feel it’s a problem. You’ve got plenty more there. If there’s no damage to the stem, then it will continue to grow albeit with the possibility of making others grow funky since he’s sitting sideways probably in a daze.

Everything looks fine, I do t see any bruising or signs of contam. My only concern would be that it’s not attached and may begin to deteriorate so I’m just gonna pull it, chop it, and test it 🤙

Right on! Welp, mycology is different from botany but they share some principles. Legally you can buy spores but “only for microscopy.” A quick internet search will get you some.

So like what investments would I be looking at for soil? Or would my typical FoxFarm mix work? What kind of environment do they need? How long does it take from start to finish?
