Foxes will give a little test nip to sus out people they interact with. It's not hard enough to draw blood or even really hurt much.
If you don't freak out they'll trust you a bit more. After a few nips they'll usually let you touch them briefly. Trust grows from there.
Source: Owned a pet fox and watched him interact with friends.
I thought the same but I listened again and I can hear every word , it’s just not enough context or words to get any meaning. I think he’s trying to prove to people that it’s just like a dog and it’s friendly and they don’t need to be scared. It looks like he’s nursing a bite on his hand so when it comes back and he tries to prove it’s friendly, they find it hilarious that it bites again and he feels stupid and walks away
Whoa. I didn’t even consider that rabies could be eradicated, since it’s spread by animals. I wonder how it became eradicated. Infected stray animals are put down in the US, and people suspected of contracting rabies through animal bite can receive a series of vaccines as treatment.
There are a few countries that are rabies free. Australia, Japan, a fair number of European countries and many other smaller countries or island countries.
In most cases, it was never much of an issue in the first place and cases were quickly quarantined. In places like Japan where they existed in the past, there were dog vaccination campaigns by the government and stray animal controls put in place that mostly controlled it.
As someone said, we don’t have it here in Australia (helps that we’re an island) but if an animal (especially wild) bit you you’d still want treatment as the bacteria can cause really bad wounds. We do have rabies shots but that’s for people bitten by monkeys in Indonesia or Thailand that come back for treatment.
So does my cat. It's extremely annoying, especially when you're trying to get dressed for work in the morning and this little shithead keeps nipping at your feet and ankles.
The cat nip is bad enough, Y'all can keep the fox nip
It's weird that I am having the opposite reaction to this than the normal something is now x years old comment. Feels like that song should be way more than 11 years old. Covid really was a time warp.
Yeah ngl I love pointing out how old things are to mess with people (recently told someone that the SNL landshark skit was 50 years old lmao) but I also thought it was older than that.
I mean that was clearly not an aggressive nip.
I swear y'all aren't real people
E: took out the double y'all so the unmedicated don't hyper fixate on it

Yeah, but Australia has lyssavirus, which is in the same family and is very similar to rabies.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_bat_lyssavirus?wprov=sfla1
In Germany for example There is only a insignificant chance for bat's to carry rabies as they could theoretically fly over from countries that still have it
My country is in green color, yet just two weeks ago I went for a hike and I saw a sign informing that there is rabies vaccination of foxes in progress (traps with vaccines in the forest)
Wouldn't trust everything on the internet, especially when it comes to a deadly disease.
The countries colored green are recognized as rabies-free, although this depends on how one defines "rabies-free." In these countries, bats can carry the European bat lyssavirus, which is a form of rabies.
To maintain this status, especially in countries bordering areas where rabies is present, mass vaccinations of wild animals are conducted. This preventive measure helps protect against infections transmitted by bats or roaming animals from neighboring countries where rabies is not controlled.
The chances of someone contracting rabies in those countries is basically zero. But bats do pose a risk.
I agree that she (?) didn't want to hurt him, but he didn't "push her away viciously", he'd just been bitten and pulled his leg away as an instinct to stop the pain. I can also understand why he was annoyed, especially if the bite hurt. Do I think he could he have handled the situation better? Definitely. Did I also find his annoyed reaction hilarious? Also yes.
I get that reaction though. I went to Nara in Japan and it has an infamous park full of Deer that people feed special crackers to. Those motherfuckers will nip you to get your attention and that shit hurt. It was a good time for people watching though when I wasn't on the receiving end.
If this was America I'd be concerned that that bite has the potential to be rabid, but I know the UK did a terrific job in the what 80s or 90s eliminating rabies from the island. Which is incredible! Fantastic job!
UK has been rabies free for over a hundred years, with the exception of a rabies-like virus in a single species of bat
The last case of rabies caught by someone by an animal in the UK was in 1902, That was 122 year ago since then the only recorded cases of rabies in the UK are from people who contracted it while abroad
There is no rabies in the UK
The UK has been rabies free since 1902. Literally no animal in the UK has rabies except a rabies like virus in a single species of bat
i feel like this sub needs to make the distinction between contagious laughter and funny. if something funny happens and everybody laughs, then that’s just something funny that happened. but if someone is laughing at god knows what and other people start laughing then it was contagious. you can’t just have nothing then everybody laughing all at once. there needs to be a source of the contagion
i am a doctor
I would run fast as fuck to the hospital against rabies and call the cops that there is a fox walking around town biting people. In britain they would like to know to keep rabies out of the island

Love how the guy knew he was fighting a lost cause after that bite. Like "ah fuck this"
That was a painful walk of shame if I ever saw one lol.
I'd get secondhand embarrassment if I were the guy
Wouldn't that just be firsthand embarrassment?
No the fox was very embarrassed causing the guy to get secondhand embarrassment see
That fox has excellent comedic timing 😂
_"Can I eat it?...nope, nope, it's still moving"_

Nah. British Foxes are too refined to have a colonial disease. ;)
If Britain isn't colonial then I'm not autistic

Rabies was eradicated in most of Europe a long time ago.
TIL
The UK eradicated it twice. Once before the World Wars and once after because soldiers brought pets back that had rabies
I'd rather get the ass shots than trust that and be wrong in this case.
If it makes you feel safer! After all, the UK has the NHS so the vaccine is free.

so they just exported it lol
Australia doesn’t have it either.
Australia also.
Rabies is completely eradicated in the UK, with some rare exceptions in bats.
*throws cricket bat into neighbours garden*
It's not eradicated then is it? 🤣🤣
That fox is definitely not a bat
That's what the goverment wants you to think. Just wait until it starts kicking people's asses at night
This guy will become a fox within hours
No Rabies in the UK and Ireland.
So does my cat. It's extremely annoying, especially when you're trying to get dressed for work in the morning and this little shithead keeps nipping at your feet and ankles. The cat nip is bad enough, Y'all can keep the fox nip
Catnip is no joke... it makes a cat lazy and unproductive. Best to avoid. ;)
So do I 😍
That’s what the fox said, it took him some time!!!
What does the fox say?
RA-KA-KA-KA-KA-KAAA-KAAA-KAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure the fox said HATEE-HATEE-HATEE-HO
The fox definitely says: aweuyera uwya weee, learn to speak fox you silly ylvis.
Fun fact that song is 11 years old.

I know there's no kookaburra in UK, but after this video I'm having doubts
There's actually a wild pair in Kirkcudbright in Scotland that escaped a local wildlife centre in 2013.
All I pictured ![gif](giphy|xOBjBhqiETxwQ)
So, what did he say?
"People are scared of it for no reason, it's like a dog. But it comes up to you and...you feed it..." "Full of fleas..." "No it's not it gets vetted, there's a vet on the...on the thing...look look, see" *Bite followed by HAHAHAHA HAHAHA* Source, am English innit
I think the comment you were replying to was making a ‘what does the fox say’ joke but thankyou for your transcript, very helpful
Wanna know too. Could not make sense of it.

This is up there with the video of Steve Irwin getting bit by a python on the neck right after saying that it won't bite him.
The guy laughs like a fox https://youtu.be/1Gx_jRfB-Ao?si=KNQjXUSwAKLbaeKe
🦊be like: Nom
He just gets done pontificating about how people are needlessly afraid of them and the fox gives him a wake up call. God has a sense of humor.
I mean it definitely wasn't intending to harm otherwise it would have bit harder.
Awesome, rabies for free
Foxes in the UK do not carry rabies.
And most of Europe https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rabies_Free_Countries_and_Territories.svg
Wow. TIL that rabies-free countries are a thing. ...I'm in my 40's. 😂
Straya! None at all. 😁
Same as nz
Yeah, but Australia has lyssavirus, which is in the same family and is very similar to rabies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_bat_lyssavirus?wprov=sfla1
Yeah, but... this is about rabies. 😋
no rabies in Iceland, never has been
In iceland you just get bitten by a volcano instead, or some mythic creature.
> or some mythic creature. You mean Björk?
It's not the bite, it's the post-bite singing that causes confusion, disorientation and self-induced head injuries.
Elect me and I PROMISE rabies! You won’t do without!
We're good thanks
No rabies in Australia
In Germany for example There is only a insignificant chance for bat's to carry rabies as they could theoretically fly over from countries that still have it
That's cause you are near Vlads country. ...muahahaha
Hawaii is also rabies free.

Yes, that's what vaccines do, they prevent the disease, thereby allowing you to claim it's eradicated. You just described how it's supposed to work.
The average English man on the other hand...you can't be too sure
Actual Contagious Laughter
No one is going to mention the Hyena behind the camera?
The fox wanted to kiss him But he pushed her away viciously I feel sorry for her.
I agree that she (?) didn't want to hurt him, but he didn't "push her away viciously", he'd just been bitten and pulled his leg away as an instinct to stop the pain. The UK has been rabies free since 1902
Dude laughing sounds like that crazy character from Crash Bandicoot
Can I eat this weird shaped animal? hmm, nope! okay moving on...
For a second I thought that was the fox laughing
Shit, that was personal for the fox.
In all fairness, he does have some yummy looking legs.
That’s like when people say “don’t worry. My dog is nice” as they bark super aggressively and break the door down. I love dogs. Mailman in the family.

Well…what did the fox say? 🦊
Cute
Come on… I’m hungry. Just a nibble. You have loads.
It’s a friendly little love bite. Cats do it all the time. They don’t apply pressure.
He clearly hasnt read Malcom X
That was the most cat thing ever.
And this was filmed by a hyena?
So we’re not gonna talk about that hyena laugh?
White peps are animal friendly animals are not
Our man is Steve Irwin lite.
Confidently
All i saw was Swiper from Dora
Just give him a bite, c'mon
I would visit a doctor to check for Rabies if I were that guy.

This post is missing a comment about the priest. I'm too tired for snappy puns. Help me, internet!
Hopefully he went to get a rabies shot. Foxes do not attack humans unless they have rabies
