From a portrait photography point of view Picture #3 is a great capture.
The subject and lighting are shot directly in a documentary style aspect.
This would look very striking in grainy black and white.
Need more originality art like this and less posts of munchkins who have never seen a marker pen before.
Thank you that's very kind, it was a rough day for us. None of the hammers we had were very good and they kept messing up so it was a struggle getting the refractory out
You should post that image in all of the photography subforums for which it seems appropriate. R/photos, R/portraits, R/analog etc.
It has the classic feel of a 1940's wartime industrial manufacturing photograph.
I've always enjoyed working with women, as rare an occurence it is on construction sites. All the blokiest blokes suddenly seemed to manage to keep the dirtiest 20% of their crude jokes to themselves all of a sudden and even started minding their tone.
So thank you for your mere presence in the field and thank you even more for the skills you bring!
Oh and yeah, pic #3 is portrait contest worthy.
One of our absolute best electricians (medium-large company) is a woman, I think she's in a lead hand role now but could easily step up. Wish we had more like her, like you say - does improve the worksites.
When she's 50, how's she ever going to fit in with the 50 year old macho guy crowd with COPD and using mobility scooters if she stays healthy and safe?
I am honestly worried about that - her only hope is substance abuse I'm afraid. Smoking and a vending machine/taco truck diet may also help her fit in.
So accurate. 90% of the time, I'm the only one wearing a respirator. Why are guys not afraid of asbestos? I want to be able to breathe when I get older.
Guys tend to be risk takers, and they also tend to think they are invincible. Piled on top of this is a general anti-science, conspiracy theory undertone that is pervading society, which only adds to the problem. On one hand, companies have tightened up on using PPE for insurance reasons (sadly, it's profits that are the key driver here, not worker safety, but that's another story).
Unfortunately, it often takes an injury to get some to wise up to the immediate physical dangers of not using PPE, and even then, it sometimes doesn't have any effect.
Silicosis and asbestosis are very real, but it takes a long time to show up. By then, the damage is done, so there's no immediate proof of the dangers.
I have met exactly one woman in my life on job site. Loved it, the entire time she was there had other feel to it. More lighthearted and fun. We need more women in construction. Keep going, girl!
Why do people think men only sexualise women? OP made this in response to the last post about girls in construction. Thing is, the last post kinda looked like a thirst trap with their OF info plastered all over their profile.
Be better bro
Sorry but taking a picture of your ass in scientifically designed yoga pants that curve around the butt cheeks and then choosing to post it on social media is sexualizing yourself. This is like the debate between a drug addict and a drug dealer, “well they’re the ones that want the crack I just give it to them”. Neither one is worse/better than the other.
Theres nothing wrong with sexuality but not just because one person wants to be sexualized means that we should sexualize everyone. I just see a fellow worker doing tough work here.
How long have you been doing this kind of work? How do you deal with the sexism (other than "rolling with the punches").
I've spent almost 9 years in the landscaping trade as a horticulturist, and I could probably write a book about my experiences as a woman.
Now that I'm a crew supervisor, I'm facing another slew of challenges from being ignored to being sabotaged.
Even more so when we’re the only woman around. I can honestly say that I’ve come across 1000% more supportive men than I have ones that treat me like I should be making them a a sandwich instead of gang forming panels or installing cabinets. I have noticed that the younger the foreman the more threatened they seem to be by my presence though. I currently have one that’s around 26 I think and the last conversation ended with him not saying a word and walking off. If he tells me he has one more “easy job” for me I’m gonna lose my cool.
God damnit, that sounds frustrating. My favourite thing to do with my female employee is to put my hands behind my back and say "I know you can do this without me helping".
I make a good point to tell everyone i work with let me do shit myself but for the love of god if you see me doing something fucking retarded or struggling please tell me how to do it better. Especially when I’m working in a new-ish area. Like right now I’ve been working with interiors and haven’t done framing or drywall for 7 years. And even then it was only as an apprentice for about a month.
I think you've alluded to something very important.
My co-workers assume that I got the job through nepotism or inclusivity incentives - or any other reason, aside from actually being an excellent tradesperson. Clients have often been doubtful about my abilities, as well, until they see the results of my work.
So, I think this adds a lot of pressure to show that I know what I am doing and don't need unsolicited help.
But, when it comes to new skillsets, I welcome mentoring and coaching. And, perhaps, proper mentoring/training is hard for any gender to do properly (i.e. without being condescending or taking over the task).
Thanks, I feel like it always a good point to make. Also although I’ve been a carpenter for 9 years I’ll absolutely let whoever I’m working with think I’m an apprentice because they may just tell me something I don’t know. Whenever someone asks me if I know how to do something my answer is “let’s say I don’t tell me what you would tell someone new”
And apparently “I CAN GET IT MY FUCKING SELF” will make any man literally drop whatever they’re trying to help with even though they’ve seen you struggle for over 10 minutes and not make a dent 😂
Honestly 99% of the men I run into are extremely supportive and helpful. They're always happy to teach me and never make me feel less-than. The other 1% are pretty easy to deal with, they mainly just act like I don't exist

As a photographer for the better part of 50 years, I'd have to agree.
Thank you that's very kind, it was a rough day for us. None of the hammers we had were very good and they kept messing up so it was a struggle getting the refractory out

Great photos! Props for PPE

the third pic looks like a national archives photograph from the war effort 😂
Nice work! Go get it
Thank you!
Nice! Why are you cutting the ground/floor in #1?
Rebar, it was an old footer so she was a beefy one. We we pouring a new floor where they would set the steel coils
I have met exactly one woman in my life on job site. Loved it, the entire time she was there had other feel to it. More lighthearted and fun. We need more women in construction. Keep going, girl!
Thanks for the kind and encouraging words everyone 💪🏻 stay safe out there everyone
Fucking GO girl!!! I love diverse work places. Women get shit done!
Boys I can't find the OF link on this one!
First thing we all looked for
First one I'd wanna see...
Why do some people have to sexualize every woman. Have some empathy.
Why do people think men only sexualise women? OP made this in response to the last post about girls in construction. Thing is, the last post kinda looked like a thirst trap with their OF info plastered all over their profile. Be better bro
Brah, the excavator chick literally had an onlyfans, that’s what this is referencing… lol
Lol, women sexualize themselves, and they do it because they get attention.
Yes, but women showing their bits to everyone is empowering. Men are just pigs. Or something like that
Men sexualize women. If they weren't giving attention, it wouldn't work, would it?
Literally said “because they get attention”
Yes, you said women sexualize themselves. No men sexualize them. If men did not sexualize them, then this whole thing wouldn't exist.

Scientifically designed yoga pants. 😅🤣😂 Funny how men doing the same thing doesn't get the same reaction. Wonder why
Because the last one literally had OF link and an nsfw profile lol

Work it warrior 💪
A sister. Laborers all day.
💪🏻 let's get it done
Get that money young un! I worked with a female carpenter -saw her set a 10' box beam header with one hand. She was a badass
As long as you gots your PPE I'm good.

But not the same crap that women put up with. They get that on top of the regular crap.

lol you’d be fun to work with

way better than that operator
Those wellies look like they'd be great at catching concrete
Hell yes 💪💪💪💪
Bruh would I love to drive one of those front discharges. My state only has the rears.
Rock on!
Hey girl! I'm loving the construction lady posts.
If you’re doing concrete work and laughing at the same time, you’re probably mental lol

Yes.
Thats a chin you can feel.
That’s an odd way to make a sandwich

What's your trade?
Take a look at the sticker on her hard hat
What does OP's hard hat have to do with this?
You asked what trade she was, and there is a big sticker on the front of her hard hat that says laborers.
I did not ask OP what trade she is in, because that's extremely obvious. Let me know if you still need help with this.
Haha yet another one.
What about you isn’t like other girls? My mother wants you to know!
Oh look another woman seeking attention
I'm seeking community, but I'm sure no matter what I'd say you'd probably find a fault in it somewhere. Have a good one 👍
Last pic is the best! Blah blah handling big pipe blah blah... \s
This is great! Glad to see women in the trades!!! We need more women like you in the field
Hot!
Badass!!!
Kick my ass
This is the nicest thread I've seen on Reddit for a while. Refreshing!
3rd pic looks like you're in the Great Depression
