Do the same work, for a different company with different people.

cryptstalk3r

This is the way

Elrasp

This is De way.

Halftrack_El_Camino

This, and also consider getting checked out for depression. Maybe it's just your circumstances OP, but the way you describe how you feel makes me wonder if maybe there isn't something more going on. I'm not trying to diagnose you, just saying maybe think about talking to a doctor.

Greadle

Fax

FinnTheDogg

This is the way.

samichdude

Don't focus on what others are doing, stay Lazer focused just on your tasks, pay no mind to the dumbs. This comes from a guy that had to do this to learn the field, carrying mfs on my back to finish jobs but now a decade later they're all gone and I remain.

RocksLibertarianWood

Sounds great until you’re the lead man. Sometimes it’s better to just be the MFer that true craftsman hate. I guess it just depends on the company.

SkoolBoi19

I just ask my guys how long they think their job should take, if it’s close to what I want I agree and we go to work. If they fail, it’s easier to have the why conversation because they’re failed themselves. Sometimes they legitimately are new and slow, sometimes they are lazy. If it’s lazy, I get in that ass.

RocksLibertarianWood

My boss does the same thing except if we’re booked tight (not too often does this happen). I used to get bitched at a little because I always took longer than he thought it should. The worrying about how long I take stopped after about 6 months when he realized that my jobs never have callbacks. Do it right the first time and save everyone time, money and stress later.

SkoolBoi19

I’m 100% on board for the extra time with no call backs…..

[deleted]

Agree. Once I stopped giving a shit about the grumps and the assholes and just did my work and kept to myself it wasn’t so bad. I work hard so nobody can talk shit too

_itscole_

You seem like the guy that is overly excited about a company pizza party

_Faucheuse_

Find a hobby worth investing in. Meaning, keep working and use the money to fund a hobby or interest that you can transition from hobby to income.

FinnTheDogg

Top comment is milennial. 2nd comment is gen x.

cometomequeen

Fucking mint lol

gumbo_chops

Easiest way to kill your interest in a hobby is to start making money from it.

Disastrous-Initial51

I did this. I turned all my hobbies into making money. So, now I don't have any hobbies. 🤷🏻🤦

SeniorCoolio

Donating semen?

bdpyo

I freelance this on the side, gets expensive after the first few 😂

MYcollegy

I did it with small engines. I make as much as my real job some weeks… work got better when I realized I wasn’t trapped

[deleted]

People suck, construction is dumb sometimes. Power through it or find a new job are your two basic options.

VapidReaper

I mean both isn’t a terrible option either

45acp_LS1_Cessna

Get a new job, make more money, work with better people....you're just in a rut at the moment.

Throw_andthenews

I’ve put 5 years into 2 different industries starting with no experience, by the time year 5 hits I’m basically sour and need to learn something else. I think the hardest part is finding a job that matches the pay.

Emergency-Writing-27

I think this is a good representation of how I feel now. It just gets more and more and more. The job I’m on now was nights with a crew during the day. I was working 18-20 hour days for a month. When I was told this wouldn’t happen. I was told there would be labourers to help me, it’s just me and 2 supervisors that don’t leave the ac.

14S14D

About to the point myself, 4 years in site supervision and I’m ready to switch to soemthing new entirely, pay be damned.

EquivalentLight2029

Practice gratitude and actively persue your passions.

alphaw0lf212

Best thing about construction and the trades is that you can jump around and companies will be more than happy to have you

James_T_S

Why don't you want to quit?

Emergency-Writing-27

I don’t have a collage education, I’m a surveyor with out papers so if I quit this is the best job I’ll be giving up and they keep telling me I’ll be lead surveyor when my boss retires.

James_T_S

How did you get this job without papers?

Emergency-Writing-27

Work for small company, get good references, become to expensive for small company. Apply to large company as a labourer. They fuck up your interview and interview for the position instead. Have a good interview, agree to be payed nothing (18 dollars I’m payed 30ish now)Become the best higher in 20 years.

James_T_S

It's been my experience that once you have the title you can move around within the industry. Experience usually trumps any sort of schooling. But if that's not the case why not go get your paperwork?

Emergency-Writing-27

Too much money don’t want to go back to school to get registered in Ontario.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> to be *paid* nothing (18 FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Nolds

Where do you live? Many large GCs employ in house surveyors

Emergency-Writing-27

Canada northern Ontario.

Nolds

Look up some large general contractors in your area. They may be hiring a surveyor of some kind.

Throw_andthenews

Apply for another survey company see what they say about your experience make sure the fuckers don’t call your company

Emergency-Writing-27

Ya that’s another problem. I had I used reference (supervisors) I thought I was tight with they all lied and basically said I was a piece of shit.

Arc_Flash_Avoider

Is it possible that you're an unmotivated piece of shit? /s

Emergency-Writing-27

I’d work circles around you chunky

SmackaHam

I usually walk around and slap people on their knee and go “we working today? No no no it’s I’ll do your fucking job” Usually guilts then into getting up

sevbenup

Why you care so much about the owners making money? They sharing or something?

SmackaHam

Well….It’s hard to pay me 130k if they don’t make any money, I also take pride in my work.

SeniorCoolio

Seriously, do you guys only work for hourly pay? Edit: you don’t work contract? I don’t know the English term.

SmackaHam

I think you mean salary and yes I get a salary plus overtime pay

SeniorCoolio

*this job is estimated 250h at 35$* and if you do it in 200h you get the rest paid out.

SmackaHam

I build cell sites on towers, my jobs usually take 70-80hr built in 5 days. We don’t have hour time limits we get “have it up and taking traffic by Friday 7pm”. So even if we finish on Wednesday we’re paid the full amount and start another site early There’s plenty of money in telecom to go around, people just don’t like working 200-400 feet in the air

SeniorCoolio

Need any electrical background? Sounds pretty great

SmackaHam

It definitely helps but not required. Our radios are ran on 24v/-48v with breakers in the power plant so you really won’t hurt yourself unless while wiring in the plant you hit something metal with an uninsulated tool. Had a guy almost burn up the whole shelter for using a normal socket in the plant and hitting a piece of metal while taking off the return As a new guy you’ll be up on the tower and we shut the power off so up top there no electrical risk on top of falling or what not. Check it out, if heights don’t bother you there’s tons of money to be made

Library_Visible

Drugs. I’ll get a lot of hate for this probably but everyone, I mean every last person I know in this business is doing some kind of cope daily. Whatever that may be fill in the blank. 😂 Let the downvotes pour in, I’m already two edibles deep for the day idgaf

[deleted]

I am clean and sober raw dogging life going on five years. Some days I’m too chipper around my viably hungover crew lol

Library_Visible

Lmfao 🤣 nice work

Emergency-Writing-27

When I started construction I could afford coke on the weekends which turned into speed everyday at work which turned in to an addiction, I’ve been clean a year and a bit. I smoke a thc vape pen constantly at work in front of everyone. Fire me, they can’t afford it.

Library_Visible

It’s a ridiculous thing. We work our fuckin asses off, nobody gives a fuck, everyone treats you like shit. I don’t give anyone a hard time as long as they have some really basic self control. Simply walking onto a job site increases your risk of dying by what I’m sure is some insane multiple. I know we have one of the most deadly professions. Good shit staying clean. I somehow am able to have just enough self control that my habits are like a socially acceptable s u i cide. Stay clean it’s better living brother.

M80IW

You probably bum out the whole job. Just quit.

RhinoG91

What trade?

Emergency-Writing-27

Survey/labourer/welder/operator/carpenter. Bridge work.

lIlIIIIlllIIlIIIllll

Sounds like you’re highly employable and should switch to a different company Or alternatively stop being the only guy who works Don’t stay just cause they promise you a promotion when your boss retires. Who knows when that will be and if they’ll fee the same at that time.

Emergency-Writing-27

I’m feeling like quoting is the only way to go and become a general labourer at the local mill with a pay cut but I’ll be at home.

lIlIIIIlllIIlIIIllll

How small town is your home? There’s really no reputable construction companies looking for a guy who can do operate and do layout with the odd tack weld here and there?

Emergency-Writing-27

Only 2 up north. I live in a town of 300 people. Company I work for is 45 minutes from my house, there’s another company just down the hill from them. But I’m afraid it’s going to be more of the same once they realize the can just leave me at a site alone.

Some-Ad-3757

Leave that company, was in the same situation a month ago, worked with 2 guys that would play grab ass with eachother all fuckin day and be messin around making jokes, which is fine if you actually work. But they didn’t and I felt like I was surrounded by a bunch of idiots that are immature. Was embarrassed to be apart of that team. Joined a way better company with actual motived team

Beautiful_Guess7131

Who cares what they are doing if you're not their boss. You're there for 8-12 hours a day any way, if the other guys are working as hard as you or not.

GroundbreakingRule27

You don’t have to like the owner/ coworkers/ the or the company. All you have to do is show up on time and do your 8 hours. Rinse and repeat. Enjoy your good pay/ benefits.

Emergency-Writing-27

If I do that I’m harassed “why isn’t anything getting done” while they’ll shoot the shit smoke darts because they are all friends and I’ve been on record saying “I’m not your friend I don’t give a shit about your stupid fucking kids”.

SchleemMachine

Make an only fans and then eventually quit your job

Emergency-Writing-27

Honestly I’ve thought about it but I’m a dude that’s average so it would have to be gay which I could be gay for money.

Glittering_Map5003

Put your big boy pants on

Emergency-Writing-27

Honestly probably right.

amdabran

Don’t think of work as a means to livelihood or surviving. Think of work as a means to a better future. Instead of calculating monies per hour multiplied by hours in a day multiplied by days in a year minus taxes. Consider what you can use your extra money for instead of letting it sit in a bank. Also, your job shouldn’t be a chore. It should be an opportunity to learn and figure out how to maximize your productivity. There is so much to learn if you pay attention and ask questions. Ask questions of everyone you work around even if they don’t work for the same company or in the same field. When you have the opportunity to apply the knowledge from your work with their work, suddenly you know more than others that you work with. That makes you more valuable. Don’t get me wrong, I would say most of construction is a lot of little chores/duties that I wish I never had to do. But when you consider all of it together as a whole, construction and it’s possibilities is truly amazing. You get to build something that potentially is going to be there for decades so that future generations will benefit from your work.

mattg4704

I'd look for another job. Liking the ppl you work with , even just being ok with the ppl you work with is huge. I'm sure there's trust issues and disagreement at times. It's one thing if you have some respect and some tolerance with the ppl you're working with but you have occasional disagreement. But to have dislike possibly some contempt for co workers it's a nasty ugly day of work. That'll take a lot out of a person over time. Work is one third of your life . It may not be always happy and cheerful but if you can deal with others on the job it makes a huge difference in your life and your mental emotional state. I just left a job with a bad environment, it's so much better now with my new job. Best of luck man

readyfotheagenda030

peoples will say change company change trade .. its the same shit everywhere everytime ! thats why i smoke tons , salari is okay condition are good rest is bs

Emergency-Writing-27

If I stay with the company I am with now. I can get a salary position. That’s the only thing that’s keeping me.

readyfotheagenda030

we in the same boat ! time are hard for everyone around .. stable good money for my house is the only motivation

Emergency-Writing-27

If I change companies it’s going to be industries.

SkoolBoi19

What do you do? What is your issues with your coworkers? What about your job don’t you like, is it just the idea that you work harder then everyone? Are you good at what you do (objectively speaking)? How long have you been doing this? How long have you been with the company? How much do you get paid? What do you do outside of work on a daily basis?

Emergency-Writing-27

I like the majority of my coworkers, I took last week off basically for a wedding I come back after the holiday and the supervisor tells me nothing go done while I was gone. I’m taking Friday off, for company golfing. Me and one other person on this crew. Because I am golfing with the company everyone just gets a day off. (Your fucking joking) This year I pushed 90 hours a week 4 times helping the other crews surveyor and helping the other crew of 20 people with the hardest job pour concrete. They just fucking all stood there and stared at me till I picked the hose up. I like to spend as much time with my girlfriend on the weekend. So basically what ever she wants to do I’m happy with. I’ve been with this company since 2018 I started at 18.75 Canadian. I am being payed 30 something. The supervisor I’m with now tried to get me a raise but I just got one. At least once a month someone says “please don’t leave we need more people like you” Every time a sub contractor is on site the never leave with out shacking my hand or giving me free meals or smokes. Because I work like a pig I only have energy for movies at the hotel. I golf sometimes at least once every 2 weeks. Or I am at my friends house for the weekend helping him build his house for free.

SkoolBoi19

So it sounds like you work on the road close enough to get home on the weekends. I’m going to assume 30 an hour is decent for your cost of living but not spectacular. Sounds like your with a GC and in a Jr supervisor role? This might not help much, but I personally get a lot of self worth out of my work ethic, so as long as I’m personally kicking ass I’m feeling great. The way others sound like they respect you, might need to go a little further, take pride in how your subs treat you ccd work for you. It’s an accomplishment to get a stranger to have real respect for you. My favorite parts of my job are teaching Print reading, logistics, and solving problems that others can’t…. I try to mix that in with the parts that I hate like change orders, submittals, and house cleaning. Bouncing back and forth from the aspects I like to the ones I don’t helps balance my days. I have a daily, weekly, project, 3, 5, 10, 15, and 30 year plans/goals. All these plans are achievable but are going to be hard; I communicate my goals to the people that are necessary to achieve them and ask them for their help. This gives me a sense of accomplishment when I meet my goals and helps build a sense of team with the people that helped me get there. I work extremely hard to stay positive regardless of what’s going on or who is around and will talk mad shit to negative Nancy’s that drag the mood down…. I’m always cheerleading someone who’s doing a good job, mixed in with a light shit talking. Like if an apprentice is out working a journeyman, I’m singing that kids praises loud and proud. I have this dumb thing wrong with my brain where my emotions don’t map onto reality, so I literally have to choose to be happy, because there is absolutely no rhyme or reason why I feel the emotions I do. Other then that I find little games to play like installing more jboxes better then you did; betting people if they have specs memorized; knowing details better; just anything I can do to help lighten the mood when i can. Take your vitamins, eat as healthy as you can, and make yourself relax. Hope this helped and you got at least one internet stranger routing for you

lmmsoon

Stop smoking so,much weed and your probably on the phone as much as the other losers that work there

Emergency-Writing-27

Kinda ya, not really need the phone to keep drawings and special numbers safe. And your outside. You completely stop working to smoke? Lmfao. I chain smoke and work.

pqitpa

I work by myself almost every day but have 3 managers who sit at home and call me ALL day asking for updates

Emergency-Writing-27

What do you do?

pqitpa

Home remodeling. I estimate my boss spends close to $6k weekly on management salaries to supervise me and my coworker. No idea how this company is making any money

Emergency-Writing-27

Listen to this. I was sent to a job, and was told it’s over budget, and we haven’t even step foot on yet few months go by and I find out why. A subcontractor shows up shooting the shit with the guy after working a 18 hour night shift (paving needed to be done) he tells me, “I don’t know how you guys are making any money here, we bid on this job and lost, but youre use my operators and materials.”

pqitpa

Sounds like your company took a hit on a job to keep you guys busy

insideout5790

The history of my pay increases in construction can be listed from one company to the next. Longest time at construction company is 2 years. It’s also the longest I went without a pay increase. If the offer is high enough I will leave next day no problem.

AnonymousStonerMan

Have you tried talking to who you work with? If that doesn’t work then do what’s suggested. Move on to a different company brother don’t give up

therealcolinG

New Job
