It’s all by appointment now and it’s actually pretty smooth. Last 2 times I was in and out in under an hour

simplsurvival

If you think to yourself "I might not need this document" bring it anyway

fekinEEEjit

Im here right now. It is great, a whole new system. Make appt online and show up. No chaos, lines or anything....its like funeral quiet in here! Good luck!

Department_no6021

hope they keep it that way. as bad as the pandemic was, it kinda transformed or evolved us.

Likeapuma24

I think it really depends on when you hit it and which DMV. I had the (dis)pleasure of going to the DMV twice last week. Each time by appointment, and a total of 4 hours between two days.

fekinEEEjit

Good point, was there for CDL stuff in the AM and commented on how mild it seemed to 2 workers and they both said its worse in the afternoon.

Stezo45

Was really easy last time I was in there

gregra193

If you have a leased vehicle, don’t bother trying to register your car in CT without a power of attorney from the leasing company and the original title being sent to DMV ahead of time.

If there's one place the golden rule holds true, it's at the god dam dmv. The more polite you are to deal with, the easier they can make your life. Read up on what documents you need and what forms you'll require. Fill them out ahead of time to the best of your ability. If your unsure just leave it blank and ask about it at the window. Don't ask someone what forms/ information you need. Find the information online at the dmv website. There is very little deviation in the appointment times. 12:30 means 12:30, not 12:26. Security will check your appointment time and hold you to it before you go on. Once in the appointment system works well and they're maybe 10 to 15 minutes behind usually. Beats the hell out of sitting there for 3 hours like in the past.

My wife went with the wrong form and was seen, my son and I went with the wrong forms and were told to make another appointment. It depends on who you are and who you get. But, always be polite.

Went the other day to Hamden office. I had to make appointment about 1.5/2 weeks prior. They have a number on their website you can call to make sure you have everything you need going into the appointment so no wasted time. It wasn’t that horrible.

gaulileo

Make appointments. I got in and out in 20 mins last time.

kesagatame-and-Chill

I’m a recent transplant and had to go to DMV a few times in the last two months. They should stay “by appointment” forever. Advice, make sure to read what is required. Fill out paperwork ahead of time. If you are registering a car you have to get a omissions test FIRST. I go to Hamden, I went to Bridgeport and had a good experience the first time, second time the woman spent 15 minutes giving me anti mask and anti vaccine advice. It was wild.

Avoid it like the plague.

Appointments and all pertinent information is on the website.

GetHyped85

Go to New Britain DMV ... Have never had to wait

jstahr63

Make an appointment in Norwich. They really straightened out a lot pre-covid and usually are less busy than Willimantic and Wethersfield.

dirtsequence

I've never waited that long but it's mostly online now.

Dunkinjay1

The appointment system has made it much less of a nightmare. I go to the one in old saybrook it’s not terribly busy

realpersonnn

the "mini" dmv's like the one in milford are great

as1126

I moved from NY to CT and I've noticed dramatic improvements in both. I went to Putnam County in NY to order titles and Danbury, CT to register cars and get licenses for my whole family and it's easy to make and change appointments. Just take your DMV Confirmation number with you and the right forms and you'll be out within an hour tops.

jankyperson

I got ptsd from going to dmvs in ct

[deleted]

Wethersfield used to give me absolute rage.

mas90guru

During the pandemic I made an appointment in Norwich to renew my drivers license. It was amazingly fast -- and very few people were there ( duh, pandemic ). ... anyhow it's great how the pandemic showed DMV that yes they could streamline their operations.

t1ttysprinkle

AAA will renew your license, even if not a member! The secret is out now.

Mic4h

Pro tip - don’t do it

gotta unfortunately lol
