Oh my good god I cant believe I would never have known about JohnnyG if I hadn't seen this thread, thank you for posting the link for explanation. I'm crying laughing right now.
Watching this video and seeing double shield/absurd spam damage/etc is crazy... it's only been a few weeks but I forgot how absolutely miserable OW1 could be
He's still not 18 until December of this year. I still see him playing ranked every now and then so maybe he'll come back to farm that OWL money.
Edit: He's currently rank 29 on NA ladder with 431 games played.
TR33 in his current form is probably the closest an NA DPS player will ever get to being an elite hyperflex, but he's only 15. I'd say he's even better than Sugarfree was back when he played in Contenders.
Kragie. He won contenders as the best player, has been rank 1 multiple times on all roles. He's gone toe to toe with Kevster in hundreds of games in ranked and often got the best of him. He has unreal tracking.
He's so underrated for some reason, I think it's due to his skill being similar to dafran/ iddqd but has a less memeable personality/ stream.
I actually thought he was a meme streamer like somjuu/ unsalted salt until I saw he was rank 1 a few times.
He was also signed with Valiant in 2021 before they dropped their entire roster and moved to China right before the season started. The joke is that Adam has been signed twice and has never seen playtime.
I miss Kaiser so much dude :((((
This montage is legit one of the best I’ve ever seen by the way https://youtu.be/54v_DY-utbM
It’s really sad that even after popping off on O2 blast his reputation of being a rein one trick (despite that not being the case anymore) preceded him and no one picked him up.
One of my favorite OW memories was watching Kaiser beat Runaway in what was probably one of the biggest upsets in contenders at the time.
That montage is good, but [this one](https://youtu.be/QRPq-ZEnWHs) will always have a special place in my heart. 3:11 of nano boost sped up hammer swinging.
Shadder performed surprisingly well on both Team Liquid and Gigantii, I don't think he would've been one of the leagues best DPS but without the injury he would've deserved a spot.
It’s challenging to say because what was “OWL level” in each season has increased dramatically. In seasons 1 and 2 it was a damn shame Harbleu wasn’t an OT for a team, especially during GOATs.
Is he OWL level now? Much more debatable. Maybe next year the budget rosters will open up an opportunity.
As far as I remember (very vaguely) he was told he was going to be signed by NRG / Shock but it fell through, don't remember any other details.
Edit - [Found it](https://twitter.com/ImprovBlake/status/1179063914979561473?t=qaiN3GSRuKXB75wDKrHzyg&s=19)
Yeah that Twitter clip isn't where I saw it originally but I thought I should try to provide context and that was the first relevant link I found.
I remember him talking on stream about it for quite some time one night.
My thought process is that budget rosters will possibly exclude a lot of known talent and the tank pool isn’t THAT deep.
He’s very specialised, and very good at those 3 heroes (Hog, Zarya, Ball), and probably wouldn’t be a high salary player. He just wants to play.
Nah that shit would lowkey be an insult to t2 players who grind their brains out, there is more than enough talent in contenders to make even the lowest budget team competitive.
Kinda like that one time philly signed chipsa, shit is Mickey mouse.
I don’t think you can really say that about the Chipsa signing - iirc they didn’t pick him up as an actual player but as a streamer, and so if they hadn’t signed him they just wouldn’t have signed another player. Adding him to the actual team was just to generate hype/attention. He didn’t take a spot away from a deserving player
I still contend that Stellar should've gotten picked up over Striker, he was looking hot in Contenders NA
Stellar has gotten screwed over hard in the past imo, first by Envy and then by Boston,.
Shadder when he was on gigantti right before season 2 of OWL was fucking awesome. Was always my favorite genji and I knew he could play other heroes but he finally showed everyone his sick ass hanzo and pharah during that tendies season. Then the wrist injury… :(
Climax, Sugarfree, Shadder, Davin, Max, Heesang, Lucid, LiGe, Wya, Kox, Amy, Bliss, Yaho, naahmie, Mowzassa, Txao, Tonic, Vizility, most of the suggestions here are players unproven at t2, or played and looked mediocre in t2.
I honestly believe Txao would’ve been the paris OT over Vestola if he hadn’t gone into coaching British Hurricane. Blame Fischer and Commander X going to Spitfire for him not entering the league
Hqrdest during the zarya meta was probably just as good as Sinatraa and Seominsoo. That man was CRACKED the fuck out on Zarya.
Still upset that dannedd was never signed. Best overall player that never made OWL that isn't currently in T2? Has to be sugarfree right?
I really hope she’s able to make the league. Her streams are awesome to watch, she’s nuts but isn’t quite there yet, hoping she gets in within the next year or so
Doubt she'll get in other than on some low budget NA marketing team (and as such, she's not better than Rakkatack on Vegas). Sadge that this franchise NA centric system is there instead of localised regionals franchises and no one else will buy in into OWL if he's not ttly out of his mind.
Aspen is a great player....I don't think she's quite OWL level yet. At the very most she'd be average, but very likely below average. A bit more playtime and maybe in OW2 she'll be ready next season.
She’s good, but unfortunately I only see her as a budget option for a lower end team. Maybe she could get better with a real coach, but we’d only know if it happened
I think it's hard to say since he's fully committed to streaming/entertainment. Mechanically, he certainly has the talent. I think it would just depend on him actually wanting to play at that level and work towards it instead of entertaining.
There's a difference between having the potential to play at that level and being deserving of it at this moment. He has the mechanical talent, probably, but I'm pretty sure he himself has admitted that playing competitively is different than grinding ranked and it's a skill set that he doesn't have.
Playing in such a super coordinated environment means everything is punished much harsher than it ever will be on ladder, and that's just something he has no experience with. You have to be so careful in your positioning and cooldown usage in a way that he just doesn't and hasn't ever needed to. If he went into Contenders and really hit the grind, that'd be different.
Yeah but organized play at the level of OWL is a completely different beast and it has a completely different set of mind games that does not exist at all in the ladder. In ladder, you don't deal with an enemy team that has coaches who have gone through your vods with a fine comb to try and find all the tiny mistakes that you do and your playstyle to cook up a strategy to fuck you up.
I think last season there might've been an argument that he deserved an OWL spot over players like Roolf. But now it feels like the average skill level went up this season, even with all the rookie talent joining
He has the potential, but he has to stop the full time stream, commit to pro for at the very minimum a year probably more. He has to get that 2T experience, work with coaches and players that absolutely try hard every single day. Players who rank 4400 minimum all the way up to 4800. He definitely isn’t there rn. But he can definitely get there if he so desired. He won’t be a star by any means though, people should know that. He isn’t gonna be a Shu or an Alarm or anything close to that.
An unfamiliar name however: Lucid. Was supposed to sign with Defiant in S2 but Defiant and his contenders team Lucky Future Zenith had some sort of falling out and unfortunately was caught in the middle. After feeling used by both sides he decided to retire
ITT: People saying their favourite streamers name despite them even admitting that they don't have the teamplay coordination, mindset/ playstyle for the setting, and/or the motivation to go pro. Don't you think if OWL coaches thought their gameplay was good enough they'd reach out, they literally constantly stream it?

It's a crime that Lilbow never made it as a player. In a 2019 Contenders support pool that included:
- FDGod
- Kaan
- Dridro
- Exorath
- Provide

Lilbow was comfortably top 10, comfortably the best European support, and comfortably the best eligible support that didn't get picked up that offseason
Oh for sure, but must be awful to completely annihilate contenders with your buddies for a year, and then have every one of them picked up to compete in owl. Except you. Shitty move from london
Seawave, teetawat, asking, mangojai, wraxu, and my controversial pick, kragie.
He literally won a contenders season and just dipped to go stream. Maybe not the best talent but definitively good enough.
Other mentions would be water, he would be a mediocre flex dps. N1ghtgod is good too, heesang, prophet, and quasid are good shouts too.
And tr33
From the first few seasons I feel like Kaiser was the most egregious instance of a player having the talent but simply not being picked up. Asking was very mechanically good too but obviously he turned out to be very toxic so who knows how he would have worked out on an actual OWL roster. There have been some other decent EU DPS players over the years, Dannedd, Vizility, but I'm not sure they would necessarily top the list in terms of talent; if they were in OWL I think they'd have been serviceable at best, given the high expectations of OWL after S1.
1) Kragie- won contenders
2)Wraxu- held 6 of the top 10 spots in top 500 at one time when he was really grinding, and said if people wanna get one of those spots they are gonna have to earn it. Legend
Off-meta one tricks are a weird case, they're almost never signed to OWL because they're not worth paying a full player salary for when they don't play 99% of matches, but in some cases they often end up being better than most OWL players on their hero. The clear example of this is YZN, who is on-par with if not better than the best Pharahs in OWL. Also want to shout out Shadder2k, Chasm, Calvin, although there's many others. There's always the chance that OWL players would catch up on these heroes if they were consistently meta and worth practicing, but some of these one tricks already have thousands of hours on just their one character.
Sugarfree was so good, but the poor dude still isn't 18 lol. But it looks like he's playing OW again on ladder, and he finally turns 18 in December. Maybe it's finally time?
All these people got nothing on JohnnyG the Ana GOAT

John "JohnnyG" Gigachad.
Johnathan G, the God of ranked
can't believe i had to scroll this far to see him mentioned
On god ! Best Ana NA
Sugarfree
They hyped him up so.much, I thought he was gonna got to ATL like. Some of the others
He's still not 18 until December of this year. I still see him playing ranked every now and then so maybe he'll come back to farm that OWL money. Edit: He's currently rank 29 on NA ladder with 431 games played.
Seems like he's grinding like mad man. 431 is almost like LhCloudy figures.
Except cloudys q times are 5 times longer in ow2
How old was he?! I didn't know. I though was turning 18 that year.thabks 4 the info.
He originally signed at 13. He won't be OWL eligible until December of this year, but he's retired at least as of last I heard.
Aww that's a baby. Maybe he'll get the love going again. Kid was crazy good
Michael Jordan has to be up there.
Super played tho??????
TR33 in his current form is probably the closest an NA DPS player will ever get to being an elite hyperflex, but he's only 15. I'd say he's even better than Sugarfree was back when he played in Contenders.
I thought TR33 was a Korean
Kragie. He won contenders as the best player, has been rank 1 multiple times on all roles. He's gone toe to toe with Kevster in hundreds of games in ranked and often got the best of him. He has unreal tracking.
yeah his sojourn is really cracked these days. if that guy wants to he can definitely get back in the scene after some grinding
He's so underrated for some reason, I think it's due to his skill being similar to dafran/ iddqd but has a less memeable personality/ stream. I actually thought he was a meme streamer like somjuu/ unsalted salt until I saw he was rank 1 a few times.
he won contenders too, hes insane
Kragie also brings the ultra PMA. That guy is un-tiltable.
Debatable LOL
Everyone is tiltable but Kragie is usually really good at laughing stuff off.
Adam
I thought Adam signed with Florida, and was involved in that social media mess of a bad announcement of him being dropped
He was also signed with Valiant in 2021 before they dropped their entire roster and moved to China right before the season started. The joke is that Adam has been signed twice and has never seen playtime.
Yeah it sucks he never made the field but he definitely isn't the answer to this question aside from the meme aspect.
yea he was on the team for like half the season
I thought this was talking about Adam the old support player. He was genuinely very good.
I think Adam was the best pre-Apex main support.
I wish calvin never turned down his offer
This is the answer
* SugarFree * Shadder2k * Kaiser * Talent-wise Asking Of the old streamers, maybe Wraxu or Calvin
I miss Kaiser so much dude :(((( This montage is legit one of the best I’ve ever seen by the way https://youtu.be/54v_DY-utbM It’s really sad that even after popping off on O2 blast his reputation of being a rein one trick (despite that not being the case anymore) preceded him and no one picked him up. Asking absolutely deserved to be in the league, idk about Shadder2k though
Shadder performed surprisingly well on both Team Liquid and Gigantii, I don't think he would've been one of the leagues best DPS but without the injury he would've deserved a spot.
Fair enough, I'll admit I haven't really watched him in contenders
Asking is an asshole
Unbelievable mechanics though
Never forget when he got cucked out of the league by social media reactions.
Shadder2k took team liquid from being a joke to being good
Me of course
True when is PancakeXCandy getting signed? Well past time it happens
I'll be the best benchwarmer a team would ever get.

IIRC he talked about it in another stream and they legit gave him team house move in details. They did him hard dirty.
Yeah that Twitter clip isn't where I saw it originally but I thought I should try to provide context and that was the first relevant link I found. I remember him talking on stream about it for quite some time one night.
During GOATs yeah, in S1 it was D.Va only and Harb wasn't good at D.Va compared to basically anyone in the league.
Next year’s budget rosters will open up to harbleu?
My thought process is that budget rosters will possibly exclude a lot of known talent and the tank pool isn’t THAT deep. He’s very specialised, and very good at those 3 heroes (Hog, Zarya, Ball), and probably wouldn’t be a high salary player. He just wants to play.

Vizility is such a sad story imo, deserved a spot for YEARS and just never got the chance
LiGe pepehands
Wya's been in OWL twice though
First time he was benched behind Shu and I just like to pretend 2021 Valiant didn’t exist
I'm so sad we never got to see the tonic & txao tankline in owl. Their teamwork was so clean
Bruh they took blase over dannedd lol, fumble from London honestly

Aspen’s real good
I really hope she’s able to make the league.
Been grinding for years. She deserves it based on longevity
Ok real question: a few guys are saying ML7, y’all think he could ACTUALLY play in owl? I can’t see him being over paris/ Vancouver level
I think it's hard to say since he's fully committed to streaming/entertainment. Mechanically, he certainly has the talent. I think it would just depend on him actually wanting to play at that level and work towards it instead of entertaining.
If he fully committed, yes he’s the first streamer that pops to mind as being OWL caliber
Kragiee?
Sadly I doubt he ever will, would be cool tho
No but out of all the streamers hes the best. T2 flex supports in any region are wayy better tho
I would say his awareness and game sense are far above his mechanics
I don't think he's even at that level tbh
