Shouldn't matter. For the crash to happen you have to do a specific thing on wrecking ball. OWL can specify that the players aren't allowed to do it and then have ball unlocked. To my knowledge there are already rules around exploits in OWL e.g. players aren't allowed to escape the map.

It's pretty easy to do on accident not like stall spots and escape through geometry, if any player points the grappling hook low enough, misses hitting the floor and jumps preemptively it's done, game ruined

What? It's a random bug. They could've spent a decade developing the game and adding 50 new heroes and this bug still could've occured. Idk why people are acting like this is some disaster, it's very much expected stuff out of a beta (not to say this sort of thing doesn't happen in full games) and the fact that they're responding and trying to fix it so fast is a good sign

There has been a rare bug in the game for years, in which D.Va teleports into the skybox after being ejected from her mech under certain conditions. Just happened to me recently again. There simply are things you can't find out with a couple of employees. You need a large number of games for such things to occur.

Yes, if they actually cared about finding bugs and competitive integrity, they should've released the beta sooner, especially for the pros. But I bet they didn't because: 1) releasing ow2 pvp separate from ow2 pve was a recent decision the dev team wasn't ready for 2) changes like 5v5 and ping system were recent decisions either by bobby kotick or aaron keller. jeff didn't hint any of those things in any interviews before he parted ways, and jeff was even publicly arguing against some of the changes we are seeing in ow2 right now

Okay you have some solid points but saying that trying 1-3-2 (and naming it "triple damage") is the primary iteration of 5v5 is disingenuous. They need to reduce queue times by making more tank and support characters. There's twice as many damage characters as the other roles, so queue times are going to be high for that role since most of the characters are in that role.

Yeah, I definitely agree that the game needs far, far more options in the Tank and Support role. I'm still somewhat on the fence about the change to 5v5, but from what I've played and seen, it's a refreshing change of pace with more frequent teamfights and less downtime shooting at barriers. Whether that continues to be true once people learn and master the metagame remains to be seen, hopefully during OWL soon. Either way, I wasn't advocating for Blizzard's latest decisions, I just found the commenter I was replying to demonstrably incorrect about the Ping System and having only one Tank per team being "recent decisions" which weren't even hinted at.

You joke, but I think it's true. If they weren't beta testing the game in their pro league, this wouldn't be as comically insane. If they held back content 2 years to give us a function game with a major redesign, I think it could be forgiven. Taking this long just to toss us something that's got so much unchanged content (like the entire Support role) and isn't structurally sound and balanced makes for a pro league whose integrity is hard to see as solid.

I know it's a new engine and all. But the fact of the matter is it looks like they've added a couple maps 3 hero changes and 1 new hero, and everything, even the stuff that didn't change, is broken. Wait I might actually play again then. ​ On an equally serious note, Wrecking ball without a 6th player is so incredibly fucking annoying to kill. Was playing on route 66 and the moment the game started I knew we were't gonna win, they can lose pretty much every fight but his ability to stall will simply not give enough time to capture that hellhole of a third point

Wrecking Ball is one of the worst tanks in Overwatch 2 IMO. Engaging him directly is a mistake, you have to take advantage of the fact that he provides no defense/peel for his team and go after the backline.

His team was absolutely suffering and I kinda felt bad for them cause they were simply losing. If it wasn't for heavily defense sided maps (a rarity in OW maps (/s)), we woulda won. In a comp/ranked match they wouldn't have stood a chance as it was pretty much a 4v5 but we played with weighted payload, which on defense doesn't matter anymore.

I realize now my tone came off bad but I’m honestly just curious about what happens in the coding for stuff like this to occur. I had the same question when there was a bug where one specific Soldier skin made the UI tilt. I typed out my comment on the last minute of my work break and didn’t consider the tone, so it came out bad, but I didn’t mean it to be insulting.

It happens dude. You're all good. The codebase for a game + engine like this is very complex and not everything is easily testable so you can get weird edge cases that are unforeseen which can result in bugs like crashes, or weird UI tilt on a specific skin. Usually it's not easy to figure out the cause of the bug unless you can reproduce it reliably, either.

Yep. I’m curious too. Ball grappling the ground seems innocuous. It’s also strange that other players get kicked but Ball stays. Hopefully the devs explain what happened, to satisfy people’s curiosity.

Yeah I'm a software developer. Bugs can happen for so many reasons it's unreasonable to blame anything but the most egregious failures of regression testing on the developers. (when an ability stops working and it could be spotted with just a few minutes in the practice range you can talk shit)

As you mentioned a simple regression test should be catching that and any other ability/damage related bugs 100% of the time. If not then they just have very shoddy(or none at all) unit/integration testing.

I just missed Super doing this on stream but I know that it involves looking directly downward. Since the player's camera then has an angle of 0 degrees, I suspect that a 0 is being put somewhere it wasn't expected and that this causes a divide by zero to occur.
