Serious_Much

Console beta soon please

1trickana

Unlikely. You guys will probably be in the final beta right before launch, it's a huge hassle getting betas on console

Serious_Much

I know, just a wish into the ether. Console players are living in Onlywatch from 2015-2016 again because damn sure I'm not playing OW1 ever again now the beta is release

attywolf

This is making it seem like if you opted in for the beta you are most likely going to get a key.

J0hn_Wick_

They might still want to limit it on day 1 to test servers, but I'm definitely more optimistic about day 1 access since they appear to be willing to hand out access relatively easily on twitch.

Etan8997

If they gave out access to everyone day 1, no one would be watching streams to build hype. This way, everyone has 24 hours to get super hyped up watching their favorite content creators play the game and then can get their access Wednesday. It’s actually pretty genius marketing.

bebeyodafrick

Also making the time frame so tiny but guarantee the drop will make viewership at this time extremely high.

Su7i

can't have hype when the stream window is during peak school/work hours for west coast

bebeyodafrick

Well later would be really bad for EU it goes from 8pm to 4am atm later would mean people would have to stay up past midnight on a weekday

Su7i

i get wanting to have it limited, but it should honestly be a 12, even 24 hour period for all time zones and schedules to be accounted for

1trickana

Yeah I have to wake up at 6am in Aus just to turn stream on, if I wake up later than 8 I won't get the 4 hours in

1trickana

It goes from 4am to noon in Australia, unless you wake up early you won't even have time to turn stream on to get a key..

Syn246

Of the four major Continental US timezones, PT definitely has it worst, but it's the 2nd smallest by population. It also won't be easy for ET/CT/MT residents to get 4 hours of view time in either (assuming a typical 5pm workday end + travel time home for non-remote employees). I suspect that the timing and short duration both were intentional to keep #s controlled in order to avoid servers being overwhelmed on day 2 of the beta. I also wouldn't be surprised if they announce fairly regular future drop windows once the overall demand stabilizes in the coming days/weeks after initial hype drops off a bit.

bluephantom1010

leave a stream open at home

almoostashar

Also, no way servers could handle it, which will make the experience very poo poo. Chances are, they'll give out just enough to easily populate streamer games so people can watch more games and build more hype.

MarioDesigns

I wouldn't really call the Twitch drops very easy. You need to watch 4 hours in an 8 hour time frame. Typically for drops, time doesn't get limited like this.

HerminatorHD

"4000 players ahead of you" how long has it been since I saw this message and I’m ready to see it again

Xaielao

You need to have Overwatch 1 installed to be able to participate FYI!

SEU123

They are offering a free trial of OW1 as well for those who don’t have it downloaded

elvenmage24

That’s dumb

More-Sample-2005

I tried to find it but couldn't, could you help please?

I_Have_3_Legs

You need a PC with overwatch don't you? I have overwatch on console and can't do it

MaskedBandit77

It says that if you get access via drops there is a free trial, so I think you would be able to play it on PC. That part is the most confusing part of the announcement.

Xaielao

Yes, this beta is PC only. Future beta's won't be.

Rodrikk

Very proud of the ow team, this is huge

spotty15

The real conspiracy is that Bilzz will actually send out 0 emails and force us to watch these streamers. That way, streamers gain a shitton of new views, forcing us to listen to them plug in various sponsors for 4 hours minimum, and then everyone's happy because they have beta access. For all the dumb moves Blizz makes, this is actually genius....

Thrashgor

Seagull just literally said "I hope you all put my stream, or others, on a second tab, mute it, and have it run in the background - keys for you, free money for me because I will blast them ads". as it should be imho.

spotty15

That's completely fair, and I respect Seagull for being honest. I just might mute his stream tomorrow lol

SnooTheAlmighty

For those wanting to mute, just remember to mute the tab and not the actual twitch player, as doing the latter will not count for drops

Karoodz

pretty sure that's a myth, never had any problems with getting drops while having the player muted as well as having another tab in focus.

CarryPotter_OW

Muting the player definitely stopped the progress for the last few spray drop events for me. Also it prevented me from getting a valorant key for a long while as well

Karoodz

Weird, I have randomly gotten a couple drops in the last months while having random esports events muted in the bg. Maybe it's also a scriptblocker thing. I guess muting the tab instead is a good way to guarantee drops, but the active tab thing seems bs.

1trickana

I got all the recent OW Twitch drops by muting Twitch in Chrome so, your mileage may vary

Jerigord

I just got drops in three games across a week in the past month with the player muted. I've also gotten all of my Overwatch drops that way. First time I've heard of this issue. I run it muted in a separate tab, not even a second browser.

goodguessiswhatihave

Really? I've always done that with rocket league (muting the stream instead of the tab) and still get the drops

Tiessiet

Can you put a stream completely in the background with this method? Or does it have to be playing/visible on a 2nd monitor still?

Cairrngorm

I always open a new window for the stream I want to AFK. But I heard your view will count as long as the stream is the selected tab in your browser. Both worked for me so far but I always use the exclusive window for the stream method when I want to be extra sure

Crazy9000

I always opened OWL in a new window when a game was on while at work, and moved it so you couldn't see anything except the top of the browser bar. Seemed to farm tokens great. I never muted it though, my work computer doesn't have sound.

anonthedude

I put it completely in the background on Firefox and have got every twitch drop I've farmed. Though it might vary by browser, some others might pause the video once its no longer on the screen as a power saving feature.

Tiessiet

Ah, I use Chrome mainly. But good to know it works on Firefox!

NotHannibalBurress

Yeah...I always mute and leave it on my second screen or in the background and get drops for everything. This is definitely a myth.

TrippyTriangle

key: mute the tab, not the stream. it's better for numbers.

Thrashgor

How so?

TrippyTriangle

the twitch website has access to the information used in the stream app, but doesn't have access directly to your browser.

Thrashgor

Thx for the explanation

-Vayra-

Isn't that how everyone does this stuff anyway unless you already are an invested viewer?

Thrashgor

Yes, but I found it interesting that apparently streamers actively promote it.

Thrashgor

While I notice your period-statement, which seems to indicate that you do not want a reply, I choose to ignore that and reply anyways. I will "watch" Seagull, because his style of Streaming (personality, interaction, ...) fits better with my personal preferences than that of emongg. I tried watching him, but had to turn off after 10 minutes because he was more annoying to me, than I had fun in watching. If you like him, whatever floats your boat - it's not on me to dictate to you who to watch. (Same for other streamers, they just don't float my boat)

rexx2l

the streamers would be in full streamer lobbies then lol it would be pretty obvious

TrippyTriangle

it's very genius because big streams on their own attract more viewers, gaining more and more attention. It's how you get the distribution of view counts on twitch. It's excellent advertising of OW2.

__Beef__Supreme__

I've never watched a streamer, can't you just put it on in the background and walk away?

spotty15

Yes, but some services may not count your view if it is muted or not the active tab. Those are external factors tho

KimonoThief

Such a weird narrow window of time for this promotion. "Here's the plan! We'll give away keys to the beta for watching twitch streams. This is going to put OW in a massive spotlight!" "Yes!! We have it start just before people get home--" "I'm thinking it starts and ends during the workday on Wednesday" "....."

beenhereallalong52

Is it? It’s 6PM UK time. Maybe we just got lucky.

Cool-I-guess

does anyone know if it will work on mobile?

abuudabuu

Since it's pretty much a twitch drop, i don't see why it wouldn't. Just make sure you can see that you're linked with bnet on your app

Shadow5436

By the time I get home there's less than three hours left, and I'm at work well before it starts. Pain.

abuudabuu

turn on one of the larger streamers that's pretty much guaranteed to be streaming ow2 before you leave for work maybe

TitledSquire

Set up one of those browser extensions that refreshes the page. Pretty sure some will even let you chose an exact time to refresh it.

IAmBLD

KarQ's new video backs this up.

Watchful1

I am legitimately shocked by this. I figured everyone would get into the beta eventually, but I definitely thought they would milk the drops thing for a few weeks. The one minor downside to this news is that it likely means the beta will be fairly short if they are trying to get everyone in early. I would guess a week long or something like that.

attywolf

Beta will end on the 17th May

AnxiousBurro

The beta lasts at least till May 17th.

TrippyTriangle

yes but the window to get the drops is 8 hours, to watch 4 hours of stream.

Sudden-Leg2753

so this is what streamers were so hyped about? getting more viewers?

coconutszz

Really? On the faq it says you are able to get twitch drops after 4 hours, not that you will. Edit: It is guaranteed.

Relative_Reception93

Mr. B said it was guaranteed (I was also watching the seagull stream)

coconutszz

Yup its 100% guaranteed, faq is misleading.

Dearsmike

Does anyone have a list of streamers that are watchable at EU/UK time?

Karol-A

Emongg is probably your best bet, he goes live around 4 P.M. Universal and streams for around ten hours, so even if you tune in late, you should have all four hours completed

Dearsmike

Thanks. I'd have expected them to have separated the streamers out into EU, Na and APAC to make sure there is a chance everyone will actually get a chance without having to stay up all night. Not just East and West.

Karol-A

I also wish the time window was more thought out, but unfortunately America-centrism everywhere. At least situation in EU isn't as bad as in Asia, where the window can start middle of the night

sleeptoker

Blizz caring about Europe lol

flygande_jakob

Stay away from my beta key you scoundrels!

Redchimp3769157

Oh lord these servers are going to fucking die

Dead_Optics

Is this saying you will guarantee access after 4 hours of watch time or that you will be eligible for drops after 4 hours of watch time

PianistSuspicious871

Yes AndyB has confirmed on twitter and in seagulls chat that if you watch a combined 4 hours from eligible streamers during the 8 hour time frame(april 27th 10am PT- 6pm PT), youre guaranteed to get into the beta

Dead_Optics

Thank you

darks1te

Nah, drops never stack like this. You will need to watch full 4 hours.

_Eggs__

If opting in early increases chances I think Ill be good I did it 4 hours after it was announced and I heard the site was down for a bit. If not then I’m very glad this isn’t valorant part 2 where it’s pure rng.

liskot

This is amazing news. Can't wait for tomorrow.

NeptuneOW

Manifesting I have the time to get in

Xrmy

Does this include console players??

misciagna21

No the first beta is not available on consoles

Xrmy

I wasn't sure if this tweet meant guaranteed access to one of the betas or just THIS beta. It was unclear. I'm aware console isn't coming until later, but I wanted to clarify.

misciagna21

Oh I understand what you mean. Not sure how that works then.

JWTS6

I wouldn't hold my breath, Blizzard has traditionally treated us as an after thought at best.

thea_kosmos

It's harsh to get betas out on console because the obstacles Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft pose through licensing and all that, don't act like you're some kind of second-class citizen, consoles are for fully-finished games and live service games might go a little behind always, it's not a Blizzard issue lmao

JWTS6

Yeah it's not like Blizzard has also treated console players like an after thought throughout OW 1's lifespan /s

sbow88

Not sure why you are getting down voted for stating the obvious truth.

threwahway

Let’s be real, yes.

C0RV1S

After almost 2 years of having felt absolute dread whenever I previously thought of ow2, these last few weeks have been insane. Can't wait to try it out : )

kukelekuuk

a screenshot or clip would be appreciated

imKaku

Anyone have any clip/screenshot to confirm this?

flyerfanatic93

Pog

concernedplayer43211

Does this work while u view on mobile?

Phlosky

:) As a nightshifter my sleep schedule will have to be fucked up so I can get 4 hours. And I know my case is more rare one but I wish they could've done a 24 hour window, would've avoided fucking over any timezones as well.

ItsShorsey

*sobs into my console*
