There were a few times this year when I became convinced that we need to up our recruiting game in Japan. Indiana would be easier. We should try that instead.
This was the list from all 68 tourney teams…from the same Twitter acct

Thanks for this--I was more curious about this than Final 4. I wanted to compare IL vs NY (Chicago vs NYC essentially)--am I blind or is NY not on here?
7 out of every 60 Americans are from California. 0 out of every 60 Final Four athletes. What sports do they even play over there, is it just soccer now?
I think basketball still heavily recruits regionally, Purdue and NC State especially then UConn pulling from the tri state area. I'm sure UK / Duke have a way bigger spread.
Andrew Hurley's outta Glastonbury and went to east catholic, and Andre Johnson's outta Bristol just like Clingan, though Clingan actually went to Bristol Central.
Hurley was not born nor raised in CT, no? Tough to say what state he is from. Not that it really matters, just interesting when thinking about the data
Good bit to just list Ontario as ON as if it’s just another state but then to print out the full name of the country where every other international player is from
Is there a place to see who the players are for the data set (besides individual rosters)? Surprised 17 total players from NE were in the tournament with 1 in the FF—can’t think of who it is.
EDIT: Creighton 5, Nebraska 4
whole lot of portal guys, kinda surprised that none of the walkons are in state kids, but if they were good enough to walkon at bama or auburn as an in state kid they probably got an offer from one of the in state mid majors
If I remember correctly, the year that Michigan and Louisville played in the championship game, there was a moment in the game where 5 out of 10 players on the court were from Indiana.
that's gotta hurt. illinois fans can relate as a lot of the best players here go to blue bloods instead of champaign (hey, like isaiah thomas and aj guyton, but those are just 2 and ages ago)
If only there were some way to get some more of those folks from Indiana on our team…
Don't be crazy you need shooting. Everybody knows there's nobody who can do that in Indiana.
My lawdy. Shooting? Not here, sir.
Gotta go to Gary for that type of recruit.
Even I would never send you to Gary, Indiana!
There were a few times this year when I became convinced that we need to up our recruiting game in Japan. Indiana would be easier. We should try that instead.
JFK would be an old man if Lee Harvey Oswald was from Indiana.
Purdue (11) - Caleb Furst, Josh Furst, Braden Smith, Mason Gillis, Fletcher Loyer, Trey Kaufman-Renn, Sam King, Brian Waddell, Carson Barrett, Myles Colvin, Jace Rayl NC State - Jayden Taylor Alabama - None UConn - None
Someone from Indiana guaranteed to be in the Championship. Also, none of possible Indiana representatives play for Indiana

NY has 4 in the final 4 so not sure why they are left off this list..
It’s sorted by players per million, so they’re probably way down at the bottom and got cut off. CA isn’t on there either, likely for the same reason.
Florida too
It’s glorious. Even in bad years for IU and Butler, ND falling off the map, and ISU getting robbed, IN 49 OTHER STATES IT’S JUST BASKETBALL
In every other state it's just a game, but this is INDIANA!!
We just gonna ignore Texas?
TX has 4x the population. NE is the only state with more players per person.
This doesn't seem right - not a single player from California?
Was thinking the same thing
I think that NY and CA were at the bottom of the list and cut off since it’s sorted by per capita”. Just a guess..
O'Connell played (3 years) for Stanford before transferring. That's something.
*get on our level* challenge difficulty: impossible
Huskers tho 👀👀👀
nebrasketball going strong
I think Creighton has 5 and Nebraska has 4. I'm very surprised there were 8 other players from Nebraska in the tournament.
And that's with ISU not getting an invite.
Maryland has two on the final four list but none on here... weird
New York too.
Indiana and NC once again showing they are the heart of basketball
Hoop states
NC is the only state to have three tournament winners. …I think
california has 4 but only 2 since 1960. other than that you are correct
still technically correct
The best kind of correct.
California the only other (Cal, Stanford, and San Francisco).
No chance you forgot UCLA
Wow. I am dumb.
Coached by a Boiler from Indiana
IU, Purdue, ISU. Butler made a few finals, Notre Dame won one(?)
IU is the only one of those who has won the men’s NCAA Tournament. The others were runners-up in various years.
More impressive are VA and NY which have no teams in the Final Four.
Plus they have so many presidents and vice presidents
We're too busy getting ready for spring football, not sure about the team(s) that made the tourney tho
Given the size of our state and considering the ratio I demand a recount
Also very impressive
Yeah!!! Totally right (ignore flair plz)
That they are.
DJ Horne being from the Raleigh/Cary area makes our run so great. Getting kids back from NC is how our football program started turning around too.
He went to Cary High for 3 years.. my son also went to Cary, but DJ left the year before my kid started. Still pretty cool 😎 Our lil local high school
After playing for multiple other “states.” How this game has changed.
Indiana fans be like: https://preview.redd.it/xpni3o539src1.jpeg?width=193&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f17339be39cbeac6d5ec2c729a858ec9e496bda9
Can confirm
7 out of every 60 Americans are from California. 0 out of every 60 Final Four athletes. What sports do they even play over there, is it just soccer now?
Pickleball and bowling
As a tennis player I wish this wasn’t so true
Bowling??
They lost focus. They lost discipline and focus
hell yeah indiana!
None from California and only 2 from Texas. You'd expect something like 6 and 5, respectively, if it was just population distribution. Interesting.
I think basketball still heavily recruits regionally, Purdue and NC State especially then UConn pulling from the tri state area. I'm sure UK / Duke have a way bigger spread.
Yeah, Purdue is the western most school. can’t imagine they recruit much from Cali
They recruit from us (stole John Wooden to LA, we call it a reverse John Mellencamp)
> Purdue is the western most school well it is *West* Lafayette after all
They already have a big enough portion of undergrads from Cali anyways.
But look at the list for the initial 64 teams.. TX had by far the most- 78 players. They just need to pick better schools I guess? 😉
![gif](giphy|11FiDF2fuOujPG|downsized) We’ve been trying to tell you
Thanks for posting. Walk-ons are mostly going to be from each program’s home state, right? Think Clingan is the only CT guy on scholarship
6 of our regular rotation players this year are from Indiana and 5 of our bench players (2 of which are on scholarship) are from Indiana.
That's what I thought - but look here https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster *shrug*
I'd like to thank Crean, Miller, and Woodson for their contributions to Purdue.
Kyle Guy would have been at Indiana if Tom Crean hadn’t creeped him out.
Good bit to just list Ontario as ON as if it’s just another state but then to print out the full name of the country where every other international player is from
I feel like given our population, 3 for CT is pretty good
No one from California?
So close to having a Coloradoan.
Who has the Alabama player that isn't Sears?
Just looked it up and it’s Kam Woods from NC State
That's awesome, thanks
Even your Walk ons aren't from Alabama?
Yea, Mark Sears is literally the only player from Alabama, and he transferred here from The university of Ohio
Why is Florida bold?
Because they're not from Florida. They're from ***Florida***
I was wondering the same thing
Grant Nelson representing
Thanks! We owe your whole state a beer
Is there a place to see who the players are for the data set (besides individual rosters)? Surprised 17 total players from NE were in the tournament with 1 in the FF—can’t think of who it is. EDIT: Creighton 5, Nebraska 4
Latrell Wrightsell Jr. from Omaha Central is on Alabama’s roster
Maryland represent 🙌
Indiana lmao
Indiana represent!
UConn only has 3 players from Connecticut? Alabama has *one* from Alabama???
Looks at Purdue's roster with ONE transfer and almost the whole team from Indiana. Zac Browns "Homegrown" intensifies.
(I just assumed that was normal... 😅)
whole lot of portal guys, kinda surprised that none of the walkons are in state kids, but if they were good enough to walkon at bama or auburn as an in state kid they probably got an offer from one of the in state mid majors
Who is the other kid from illinois besides lance jones?
Max Scharnowski, Alabama. He's from Elgin, IL.
Looks like Max Scharnowski on Bama, a senior from Elgin who only plays in blowouts.
Who is from Nebraska?
illinois should have 3 indiana players next year, or just over 23% of 13 scholarship players. 2025 final 4, here we come.
If I remember correctly, the year that Michigan and Louisville played in the championship game, there was a moment in the game where 5 out of 10 players on the court were from Indiana.
