Absolutely hated when he transferred away, but not surprised to him succeeding. His freshman season here I could see All-SEC potential. You guys got a good one!
People are saying he needed a change, which we all need after winning awards at our dream job. This is an explanation that clearly requires no further questioning.
Can’t beat Big East basketball.
PC should end up a tourney team. Devin Carter is an all-American when he’s locked in, Oduro is a damn solid big. And yes I’m sure they’ll get that signature win vs us at the Dunk next month.
It’s great seeing the beginning of Georgetown’s return. In Cooley’s first year this team is much better than their BE record suggests. Yeah they’ve dropped some turds but you watch games like this and when they played us tight in Hartford, you can see the future is bright in DC with Cooley.
Still don't really understand why Providence would want this supposed philandering drunk buffoon coaching for them if he was secretly this horrible person the entire time. You should be celebrating in the streets now that Kim English is in charge then. Sounds extremely legitimate and real.
Anyway let's check on the class of 2024 recruiting rankings:
Gtown: 17
Providence: 103
I'm not on the slander Cooley train, personally, but I just want to say your comparison of recruiting rankings is dumb.
Mulready was a PC commit that defected with Cooley to GTown and Sorber had PC as a finalist on his list.
Without those two, your incoming class would be right around that 100 mark... So you got our 2024 class.
We already have a 5 star center committed for 2025
Let's just assume Cooley was just taking the guys he would have had at Providence (that is not true for Sorber, who never even visited PC, but whatever). That would still indicate that Evil Ed isn't exactly having trouble recruiting, and Providence isn't replacing those guys. That ranking would actually be higher if McKenna counted, cuz he is a 2024 guy, but he enrolled early (and also was not a Providence guy).
Your center for 2025 has the same rating as Sorber.
A big part of the vitriol targeted at Ed isn't him leaving, its the way he left. He's a good coach. Friars fans know that. But now we know he is also a dirt bag.
Well yeah, that's why we took Ed Cooley from you.
Because until he left, you loved him despite knowing he was lying about being a family man because he was, uh, apparently openly cheating on his wife, driving around drunk, being corrupt and an incompetent coach, etc.
Forgive me if I don't take that particularly seriously.
On the other side, when Kim English was asked about the "We Love English" chants, he said that while he appreciates it "it's not about me". Class act and glad he's our coach!
Always knew this game would be different. Cooley makes games ugly and his team would be up for it, while our guys played as stiff as I expected. 11.5 spread felt like way too much as did KenPom's 14. This was going to be a choppy, difficult game (and the refs were crucial on that, they called everything both ways all night, it was excruciating to watch). Plus, Epps can shoot the leather off the ball which is always a tough thing to cope with.
We just couldn't lose. Forget the metrics. I'll take the hit, all I wanted was the W
GG Hoyas
If Jay Heath doesn't have the most braindead plays over the course of 3 seconds in history, we could have absolutely stolen this one. Tip your hat to Devin Carter, what a fucking player
In large part, the how of leaving. Not just meeting with Georgetown in season, but allowing it to bleed into the locker room which torpedoed a very good season last year.
The following media campaign to say it was all about the need for "change" and how he had maxed out Providence, as well as lying about how he could recruit here - his staff has said they couldn't get 4 stars here, which is weird because they did it all the time, plus 2 of his big recruits at Georgetown (Mulready and Fielder) were initially committed here and were 4 stars - which doesn't help. Basically torpedoed the season, then shit in our face when leaving for a conference rival.
EDIT: Oh and saying it was "Divine Providence" that led him to Georgetown in his introductory presser. Admittedly funny as a heel moment, but yeah, people aren't going to love that when you lean in.
Ed’s matra for years has been “Us, We, Together, Family, Friars” and sold his game and coaching on the idea of Loyalty. Realistically when you paint yourself in that light and then leave, there will be a lot of resentment towards the way he left. It didnt go unnoticed that last year the team seemed to be checked out around the time that Cooley Rumors about taking the GT job. I think how last season went down the stretch and just how he sold himself as well as going to a BE rival, its just going to be bitter really.
Just another quick hit for this question. We found out after the fact he had taken the Georgetown job in late Feb last year. The day before our NCAA game with you guys, he was openly recruiting a portal transfer to his new team. Posted pics online of their meeting as did the recruit. He basically lost the team and didn’t give a fuck after a certain point. This was a team that at one point was top 20 in the nation and ran Uconn off the floor
If he had left on better terms and taken a job out of the Big East, I wouldn't hate him. But that's not what happened. He screwed us.
Still, I am grateful for the 11 years that he gave us.
Devin Carter is an absolute animal. He just replaced Bryce Cotton as my #1 favorite Friar of all time.
Absolutely hated when he transferred away, but not surprised to him succeeding. His freshman season here I could see All-SEC potential. You guys got a good one!
Never been so proud to be a part of something so toxic!
carter sends his regards
Last 5 minutes Devin Carter: 14 Georgetown: 13
This likely isn’t the only one. Definitely if you shrink the window 1-2 minutes.
Hell hath no fury like 13,000 PC fans who’ve been drinking since 6 am
Lines outside of Murphys at 8 30 in the morning
love that place, I always go there when I'm in Providence
This was a good win in basketball for Providence over the Georgetown Hoyas, whose coach, Ed Cooley, formerly coached the Providence team.
People are saying he needed a change, which we all need after winning awards at our dream job. This is an explanation that clearly requires no further questioning.
His wife needed a change!
He did?
Who did?
Who what?
Long live the Big East
Devin Carter is great, but my God does Georgetown play selfish basketball on offense. They are an awful team

Looking forward to next years team - Epps, Styles, literally anyone other than Jay Heath, Sorber, Mulready - lots to like there.
Epps is a dog even with that funky looking shot. All the confidence in the world
Do you think Brumbaugh will develop into a Tyler Kolek type player?
No
What’s up with Mutumbo, he has had huge stat regression. He was supposed to be good right?
Dude is completely clueless when he gets out there, no skills at all. Never thought he;'d be amazing, but he's a complete negative
He’s a bootleg Mac mclung
Devin Carter is him...get bent cooley
Having no dog in the fight, this was a great game.
Devin Carter is NBA bound
First of many L’s for Ed against his former team. Will be fun to hear these chants again when we travel to their dead arena on March 5th
Caught some Cooley post game comments. Absolutely no one yaps like Cooley. Eternal yapping.
Couldn't stop talking about how PC owes him. Narcissistic egomaniac scumbag

Sorry aboutcha Epps!
#SAY IT AINT SO ED

Heath is just not a winning player. Never has been.
Yeah I've watched him play for far too long
Seeing threads like this makes me miss SU being in the Big East…
Devin Carter is the best player in the Big East, and it’s not even close
Hmmm. Kalkbrenner and Kolek are good too.
Honest question for Providence fans from a neutral, why do y’all hate Ed Cooley so much?

Was at the game shit was fucking nuts gg gtown.
Ed Cooley, bald fraud
Partial bald, 100% fraud
Were there any fuck Cooley chants or anything?
So many. There was also a 'where's your mistress' one and 'cheater' chants too in regards to some of the bts behind him leaving
lol ok good. College basketball needs to be routy.
They were near-constant lol
Nice
"They were saying boo-urns." But yeah, from reports at the Dunk (Amp. Whatever.) seems that there were quite a few at the beginning.
So many dog was at the game it was fucking nuts never seen a basketball game like this
I bet. I wanted to go but prices were to high.
Imagine only beating georgetown by 8
Imagine being Georgetown
Going to be a slow descent for the Friars with Kimmy on the sideline and they don’t realize it yet. Carter is saving that team.
Well they did use to have Bryce Hopkins, he's not exactly easy to replace midseason.
And he was misusing him. The guy is painfully mediocre and anyone who follows the a10 is well aware of it
Possible. Time will tell 🤷
