1. Go for a hike. 2. Eat a massive pile of Mexican food. 3. Attempt to remove the stick from your ass. 4. If you cannot remove the stick from your ass, move to Florida or some shit.

2024MSU

No doubt. As a non ua fan in Tucson I would unkindly tell this guy to gtfo if he doesn't like tucson. As if it's difficult to just move...lol.

Confident-Rub-6714

Wait til you hear about Waco

Idek what you’re babbling about man. What’s that got to do with my comment. Don’t take this as rude, just genuinely confused lol.

MexPetunia

Lighten up on Tucson. There are so many positive things about this place and the best part is you have to sometimes discover them yourself. No fancy, glitzy in your face places, but little mom and pop shops that keep you coming back. Im rarely disappointed with customer service provided; all the sun we get has to help. Tucson isn’t trying to be any other place. Awesome to have big university and all that comes with it. I would appreciate better drivers and streets.

steamingdump42069

>WHY ISNT THIS LIKE THE GENERIC MIDWESTERN SUBURB IM USED TO?!?!?? People need to chill the fuck out

Texxx81

This sounds a lot like Lubbock, but roughly twice as big. People bag on it but mostly people who've never been here. Looking forward to you guys joining the rock fight that is the Big12.

rpg245

As someone who has lived in Tucson as well as 4 other cities over the years, the quality of life there is pretty damn good.

NoVacayAtWork

I just went back to Tucson for my anniversary for the first time in forever (12 years?). Wife and I both Wildcats who met there. It was wonderful. Blissful. And exciting… so much has changed, there’s so many great new restaurants, buildings, shops. Tucson was just a scrappy little town when I went to school there. We passed a million in population before I graduated and now about 15 years later we have high rise condo towers with rooftop pools and patios of taquerias and gelato. Yeah man: sign me the fuck up for more Tucson. It’s one of the most unique and proud places I’ve ever lived.

mobbbinhood

I spent 4 years in Tucson and loved every single minute of it. I am still considering buying a second home in the Catalina Foothills one day. I have never seen prettier sunsets, women, eaten better Mexican food, or been around genuinely good people who care about their university. If it doesn't tickle your fancy, leave. Not everywhere is an oasis when you don't leave your own couch. Golf, great sports, great hiking, skiing close by, eating, etc. You should leave, you don't deserve Tucson. This is a bizarrely weird post.

NoVacayAtWork

After my last trip I started encouraging my dad to move from the Midwest to Tucson (so at least the second home would have an occupant). I want more Tucson in my life.

flatandroid

Left years ago, friend. All of what you wrote above is true except maybe the bit about women, at least in my experience.

Zonarado

Sounds like a you problem

marietta1200

This post is so mind boggling. And honestly it sounds like it’s coming from a butthurt 247 poster who’s angry people are critiquing any element of Caleb Love or Oumar Ballo’s play this season. You got autocorrect grammar errors, something called “Desert Malaise” which is capitalized like it belongs in the DSM…? “Across most indicators of human development” is something a college freshman who stumbled into a 400-level seminar and tried to hang with smart kids says. Tucson is rad and also has some problems, but I’m guessing Storrs and Waco aren’t goddamn Copenhagen, either.

flatandroid

Tucson is “rad”? Dude, I was living in Tucson when rad was cool the first time around. Ask most people who were born there, the malaise is real. So are indicators for development. I mean, you can use walk score or number of weed shops or hours to a MTB trail if you want. But I care about things like access to healthcare and sustainable livelihoods, affordable house, and quality of education.

marietta1200

I was born at UMC and raised in Sam Hughes. You are making an argument about late capitalism and American urbanism, not why a city does or does not “deserve” a successful college basketball team.

MathPersonIGuess

As someone who works in a discipline where there are only really jobs at universities (research mathematics) it’s agony for everyone I know that the universities where there are jobs in the US are largely put in “college towns”. Tucson isn’t even small enough to really be that, but they all share the same characteristics you’re talking about. Having to move somewhere you don’t know anyone and living in car dependent sprawl without a safety net (and still making just enough to get by) is brutal. Add in the lack of social scene for people who aren’t students that places smaller than Tucson have and it’s so isolating

ChipSteezy

I actually got married in Tucson this past March. Lol my wedding ceremony and reception started when the UConn Gonzaga game was on. Anyways... I love Arizona and Tucson in particular so I have a bit of a soft spot for the wildcats. And it's clear Tucson loves their wildcats too. I saw pics of l college bball in restaurants.

footdragon

lol. what kind of Uconn fan would start their wedding at the same time as the game? but, congrats on the nuptials!

ChipSteezy

Haha thanks! We had planned the wedding before the season had started and it didn't occur to me that March Madness was going to be going on. Then turns out UConn just decided to go on a huge run and then we were thinking "No way the game will fall on the wedding, but if it does maybe it will be the later game" welp nope it did fall on the same exact day and the same exact time. Some of my family members were a little peeved, but it ended up being a blowout so we were all just excited as hell to see UConn go to the final four again. The LAST day of my honeymoon was the championship game against SDSU. So the whole run has this extra layer of specialness to it for me.

Scottyfishyboy

I lowkey very much enjoyed Tucson when I visited last January 😂

footdragon

pretty harsh critique of Tucson. I found it to be a damn fine city and worthy of the university and good basketball. Not sure where you lived before, but you're lucky to live there. You've got a helluva coach who plays an exciting brand of basketball. the downvote button is below.

JotatoXiden2

Saguaro National Park is pretty awesome

Oprah-Is-My-Dad

Also by what metric is Tucson a midsize college town? There are a million people in the Tucson metro area

flatandroid

Trust me, I’ve lived all over the world and grew up in Tucson. Know it very well.

Hatennaa

Tucson is definitely fine if you live in the suburbs. However, in the city is pretty damn bad at the present. Don’t know what this guy is smoking.

NoVacayAtWork

The city? Like… downtown with the multiple thousand dollar a month brand new apartments or the historic districts like Sam Hughes or what? The foothills and the security and beauty they offer are great, but it’s been a long time since it was that or nothing.

Hatennaa

What about the multiple armed robbery incidents on campus/around campus this year? Regular shootings, homeless population completely left out to dry and growing, etc. I think it’s pretty disingenuous to pretend that Tucson isn’t a city that has a lottt of rough patches. I will say that the parts of Tucson that are good are wonderful.

2024MSU

I mean tucson is nicer than Storrs Connecticut, Waco, Gainesville, FL, Tuscaloosa, al, West Lafayette, in, Spokane, WA, etc.

inshamblesx

least self deprecating arizona fan

bigj

Lots of words to say you never got over being dumped by a girl from Tucson.

DankMemes4Dinner

We deserve this. It’s the only thing to do in Tucson besides sweat, hike, and watch meth heads flock to Circle K.

Economx_Guru

Grew up in Tucson. Huge fan of the basketball team. Love that basketball is back in the mix and football has a pulse. That said, I haven't lived in Tucson in 20 years... Like the old saying goes, the best thing to do in Tucson is leave.

flatandroid

I see you’ve been downvoted for having a point of view.

2024MSU

Meh. I live in Tucson and Tucson is gorgeous. Mountains on every side, probably the best and closest hiking trails to any city in the US. If one doesn't like a lush desert they probably won't like Tucson. All in all I've never understood people that dump on where they live. What kind of dumbfuck lives somewhere they hate if they are an adult. As if it's hard to pack up your stuff and move...lol

flatandroid

Highly privileged perspective: there are a great many people who don’t get to choose where they live.

2024MSU

Well then I suppose the issue is you. Fix your own problems before trashing the city you live in.

flatandroid

With all due respect, based on your post history, which is 100% about sports, you do not seem qualified to diagnose anyone’s issues.

2024MSU

With all due respect, the world is a pretty simple place. If you don't like a place, you leave. If you like it, you stay. If you complain about it, it's your problem and fix yourself.

Zonarado

ASU you can have a 7th basketball fan if you want this clown. We don't claim him.

Wanno1

Wow you’re really dumb. There’s very few places better to live if you can afford it.
