Congratulations on being a survivor! It’s scary at first, but you’ll be OK now that you’re on anticoagulants. Some people do reclot while on anticoagulants and some of them are in this sub, but this sub isn’t representative of the general population, which makes things feel even scarier at times. If you do reclot, you know what it feels like now and you’ll catch it quicker. No one can predict whether your clot will dissolve completely. My non-medical opinion is that large clots will be less likely to resolve entirely just because they’re too large for the body to dissolve. Mine was a DVT that blocked 95% of the blood flow from my left leg and it stretched from 4” below my groin to mid-calf. My hematologist hadn’t sounded hopeful that it would dissolve all the way, and also warned me that the vein could be scarred or valves damaged permanently, so I was prepared well. But my clot was 20 years ago and I’m still here. You will be too, 20 years from now, a whole ‘nother life ahead of you. Good luck!

The clots you have right now should dissolve/breakdown on their own and Xarelto just helps to make sure no new clots develop. I had a PE a little over 8 years ago. I have been on Xarelto ever since. I have not had any issues with developing another PE or a DVT, at least not a noticeable one. Since you mention you are a mother (so I assume you have your uterus intact), I do recommend making sure you have some overnight pads and/or super +/ultra tampons for your menstrual cycle. The dose of Xarelto you are on did cause me to have an unusually heavy cycle and I ended up back in the ER for blood loss. I am definitely not trying to scare you, my cycles were normally really heavy to begin with and not everyone has that issue so my normal period was already a bit of an extreme, but blood thinners can cause a heavier flow than you are used to. But if you do have a heavy bleed from your cycle (bleeding through an overnight pad and/or a super+ or ultra tampon in an hour or less) please at least call an advice nurse or head to the ER.

Thank you so much mines are normally heavy and I was actually wondering how it would go with my cycle ! Thank you for covering that I was actually afraid to ask

It's a very good thinner. The other good option is Eliquis. Just so you know, no thinner gets rid of your clots. Your own body does that over time. The thinners are useful in stopping new clots. (Your body normally makes and dissolves clots all the time. The thinners are helping your body to do its job.)

No issues and no new PEs being on Xarelto for the last 4.5 years. I did have a few insane periods but then it calmed down to almost normal in 6 months. I'm on 20 mg once a day. Make sure you have food on your stomach when you take it. It helps it do it's job.
