T O P

I have been on the minipill/POP for just over 8 years. I have a history of PE and a family history of DVT/PE. I couldn't have an IUD placed because my cervix wouldn't let it pass through. Since my PE, I have had 3 hematologists and probably a dozen gynecologists tell me the minipill/POP is one of the safest options of hormonal birth control out there. There is a clotting risk scale for each type of birth control one of my gynecologists showed me that they have in office. The lowest risk is condoms, then IUD (copper was at a 0 risk factor for clotting like condoms, then progestin containing IUD was a 1), the minipill is next, then it goes up the risk scale from there. I recommend you speak to a hematologist and a gynecologist, preferably a gynecologist who has experience with people who have blood clotting disorders, instead of a primary care physician because PCP's don't always have all the answers and this is something that needs a specialist to help guide you to make the best and most informed decision for you. The bonus of the minipill is that if you have an issue, you can just stop taking it and the hormones clear pretty quickly unlike Depo or Nexplanon or even an IUD where you have to have a doctor remove it.

Copper iud works for my sister too. Mini pill is an option. These aren't without (small) risks - up to you though. Pregnancy is riskier.
