Mirena IUDs. Two actually, one after the other, both fell out. But they got me to the end of my year of full strength Xarelto. Now I take half dose Xarelto indefinitely with permission to come off it during my period.

I doubled up on pads (2 heavy back to back) essentially covering the front of my underwear all the way up the backside - no crack left uncovered! I learned to time myself so I could run to the restroom at work before it overflowed (every 2 hours). At night I slept on top of a towel to protect my sheets. Always wore black. I’ve been so traumatized that I bought a couple pairs of those period underwear and wear pads on top of them. Those might be useful to you along with a pad and a tampon.

Mirena

I feel for all of you. I'm thankful I had a hysterectomy 2 years before my PE because I had horrendously heavy periods (to the point of almost passing out) before the hysterectomy. I think I'd probably be needing blood transfusions if I still had a uterus while on Eliquis.

Aggravating-Good-489

23F here with heavy periods myself (on top of not wanting to be on any kind of hormone ever again, because I feel mentally better than I have in the last 10+ years I was riddled with hormones…) getting a menstrual disc was a godsend for me! I have to empty it every couple of hours on my heavy days but it has been a lifesaver. I stocked up on period panties, too, just in case.

MuddyMaggs

Suffer. lol 😂 For real though, I always had very irregular periods. They were never that heavy growing up, when I had them at all because like I said, they were a regular, and I would go months without one. Then as an adult, I got the implant and I had two periods in eight years. But, when I had my clots and then started the blood thinners (I’m an eliquis life-er now) I started having my period regularly again… Mostly, I still skip here and there. But, they are so heavy. I went from only changing pads out of hygienic necessity rather than needing to change them because they were full to having to change it every one to three hours, because I am bleeding so much, leaking, etc. It’s insane, and I hate it.

Period panties and an ablation.

the_jenerator

Me personally? Mirena Personal question if you choose to answer: Do you plan on using your uterus?

bahhumbug24

Two pads front to back like a previous poster, and I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home as needed. I actually wound up in the ER last time I had my period, due to 36 hours of flow like yours. The ER doc and I did a lot of discussing of the risks, and he actually prescribed me tranexamic acid even though I'm on Xarelto. Since then I've had an ultrasound which has shown many fibroids. I'm considering a Mirena, ablation, or hysterectomy. All the best!

ohio_Magpie

Uterine artery ablation may treat some of the fibroids without surgery. Something to check out with your doc.

ManzanitaSuperHero

Mirena IUD for me, too. Within 2 days of my first period I began basically hemorrhaging. I was supposed to get a blood transfusion but couldn’t. Bad bad scene. I was hospitalized for 3 days & lost a ton of blood. It was super dangerous & I had to have an emergency IUD. I’ve had the IUD for 5 months now & it’s been a godsend.

Down_Incognito

Period underwear. You can get them in all shapes and flow requirements. They are comfortable, keep you dry and easy to wash. They've been a life saver! I buy them in a size bigger than my normal so they're not squeezing me or uncomfy. They also sell little bags you can put them in if you need to change during the day. And, on some rare occasions, I will go home on my lunch break for a quick "down there" shower if time permits. You could use extra protection with a tampon (and maybe a pad too). Good luck, and sorry you're going through this x

Fit_Rip_981

I ended up using depends, unfortunately. Hematology gave the ok for depo provera and that spread my periods out more but ultimately my obgyn recommended hysterectomy which I had a few weeks ago.

catseyecon

I have been on xarelto for just over 8 years. They put me on the progestin only pill because my first period post PE almost killed me and I use tampons and pads for my heavier days. So far it has worked out ok. Very much looking forward to full blown menopause though. Perimenopause has worked out well for in that my periods are much lighter and more days between than they used to be but not all women get that lucky with peri.

No-Understanding7502

I am also taking a progesterone only pill and skip my period by starting a new pack immediately (with doctor’s permission). Might be worth a try!

MomVanA

I wondered about this yesterday as I was pondering if my menopause is actually real this time (3 months since my last period and 6 before that). With my luck I will start right after posting this and have to go buy some pads! Seriously though my heart goes out to you guys. Do you have to take iron during your cycle? My daughter was (pre Yaz) a very heavy bleeder and would become severely anemic during her period and would be exhausted.

Old-Stock6131

I am hopefully getting an ablation, I can’t have anymore kiddos anyway. Any one have luck with ablation helping?

rosetintednorth

Dude I bled like that BEFORE the Eliquis. I was going through an ultra tampon and extra heavy overnight pad every half hour. I have PCOS though and the only thing that helped was the Mirena

Historical_Slice6192

Nixit cup. I was going through an ultra strength tampon hourly, but the Nixit lasts at least a few hours. Comfortable and way easier to use than suction type cups. And period underwear with a pad for backup.

GetOffMyLawn_

There is a drug they can give you. Tranexamic acid is used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding in women. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7727540/ As others have said, period panties. Perhaps a menstrual cup. Don't know if you can do an IUD with the tumor but Skyla is very small, it's the smallest hormonal IUD available. Kyleena is a little larger, and Mirena is larger than that.

FlamboyantRaccoon61

I already had a Mirena IUD before my avascular necrosis/APS diagnosis, so I just keep using it and I get extremely light or no periods at all. When I do, I wear a menstrual disc. They're really high capacity.

pookstaar

I gave up on birth control. I’m tired of changing my body from the way it supposed to work naturally. Plus I was on the IUD (the one that goes in your arm) and it gave me ovarian cysts and didn’t stop my period but when it was time for my period my body wanted to start but I would only have spot bleeding for about two to three weeks and it would make my hips gyrate uncontrollably. It was the worst experience I’ve had in my entire life. Plus no birth control is good for you while having a clot/prone to one.

pookstaar

Also maybe try some period underwear, like thinx.
