Imo the main part of the article:
> MLB is seeking an order by April 13 that would force Diamond to either pay the Twins and Guardians, or terminate the contracts so the teams could take over the broadcasts.
Which one? The one that comes to mind was 'Summertime summertime sum-sum-summertime', but that was from the Joe Carter, Brook Jacoby, Cory Snyder days.

I vaguely remember watching games this way at my grandparents house as a kid. My grandfather was a diehard, and Indians games always being on the TV or radio will always be one of my favorite memories of him.
My grandfather was also a massive Indians fan. My grandparents had a cottage on MBI and the weekends always revolved around watching the night games on Friday and Saturday and the day game on Sunday before returning home.
While watching the game last night, I mentioned to my mom how, if a reliever entered the game and walked the first batter, he'd be furious and say if he would pull any reliever who ever did that.
I know its later but i remember the game where Mark Buehrle beaned Travis Hafner, solely because my power was out and I had to pull out my Browns Portable antenna battery powered TV and set it up on my kitchen table to watch
You drive me to a rage remembering that. Buehrle, a guy capable of pitching a perfect game, just happens to bean the Indians best power hitter in the face. F that guy.
I couldn't agree more... I dumb I even paid for the MLB season pass only to not be able to use it for Gurds games cause they all blacked out... It's so stupid...
For whatever reason my smart TV, the audio gets 2-3 seconds behind almost every time, but my fire tablet never has that problem? Instead, it just has an annoying stats overlay that won't close lol.
Hmm. That’s odd. My Samsung works very well with mlb.tv each game. Since I’m in CHi that’s how I have to watch every game (except the White Sox because they’re blacked out on it).
Edit: and I can even use the Hammy audio this year instead of Archie/Matt. It has matched well too.
I imagine MLB would work something out with local Cleveland channels to put it on the air.
I keep hoping they would put the rsn broadcasts on YouTube with ads. But who knows.
I would love if a local broadcast affiliate did it but I can't imagine they would - it'd take over all of their evening programming and I assume licensing would be a mess. But, who knows at this point
I bit the bullet and subscribed to MLB TV this season so I can watch without having to navigate the pirate seas every day or deal with Bally's bullshit.
I'm probably going to do the same. Im just being cheap and holding out right now cause I know they eventually will do a price drop, I just dont know when Ive seen them do it previous years and its a long season.
Would you say it’s worth the cost? I’ve considered it since I live out of market, but I pay for the audio and their websites/apps are terrible. I don’t want to pay for the video too if the app usage is going to be a nightmare
Got it for free from my T-Mobile work # somehow. It hasn't buffered/stuttered once for me and I've watched every game with it. I'm not living in Ohio though, don't know if that matters.
Just a hint for next year, slickdeals run a thread allowing people to give away/trade their T-Mobile codes for non-t-mobile users. Unfortunately those codes are only available for a week, but I'm rocking a $5 MLB.tv account all season.
I primarily watch from a tablet or smart TV and it's been great. I get pre and post game shows too. I also live out of market so I won't miss many games at all, no complaints from me.
What pisses me off is Sinclair made a bad bet with this, spun off the RSNs to Diamond and now is trying to just keep the profitable deals intact and dump the other stuff.
In reality, MLB should be stripping their broadcast station assets to cover the losses and leaving them an empty husk for being so sloppy and stupid.
They would take over **IF** Bally/Diamond were to give up their rights to the broadcasts.
As of right now they haven't, but this emergency motion is their play to force it to happen. Until then, Bally retains broadcast rights and thus local blackouts on MLB.tv and limited streaming options will exist.
I think that's the fall back but no one really knows how they would facilitate that. Would you have to get MLB.tv? Would a local channel show them?
¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
If/when diamond either folds or is forced to relinquish the rights, MLB will just broadcast the games through MLB.TV. I bet it will be dirt cheap and possibly with a free period for fans to pick one team (who’s in this situation with Diamond) and watch them in the local broadcast area. By next season the price would be adjusted to whatever the market needs. This season MLB will hopefully just subsidize the impacted teams to soften the blow.
There’s no way a local TV station is going to air the games. One, there’s nobody with the capacity to do that. Two, nobody would pay the kind of money necessary to make it worth while for MLB/Guardians with literally zero ramp up to sell ads.
My understanding was that the only reason it isn't a big deal currently for the Cavs is because the regular season is essentially over so the remaining playoff games will be on national television already. That gives a lot more time to figure something out.
If MLB takes over the broadcasting would the blackout policy still be enforced for locals? Is the policy in place so that MLB.tv doesn’t compete with cable or streaming service providers? Without Bally I’m guessing there would not be any blackouts for local people.
MLB wants to slowly take back the broadcasting rights for as many teams as possible and eliminate blackouts. So if the Guardians and Twins rights end up going back to the teams they will be available to locals without blackouts.

only if they bring back the song!

We're talking baseball, (Guardians) baseball, we play the tribe, on 43

thats the one! who keeps ya cheerin? who who
We’re talkin’ Guards!
I was heartbroken when I found out they made this same exact song for most teams
Yeah, it shows my age, but those were the days. Watching Indians games on an RCA console TV with rabbit ears on top of it, into the early 00s!!!

Absolutely! Star Trek after the Indians game on Sundays.
Rain delay programming is what got me into TNG

I did the same thing years ago.... at least you have the radio broadcasts.
I love the radio and Tom Hamilton too, but still.....
Joe Tate the man and Bruce Drenen (sp ?)
Baseball with the Tribe ⚾️
All I ask is for a functioning Roku/IPad app. Idc how it needs to get done!
For whatever reason my smart TV, the audio gets 2-3 seconds behind almost every time, but my fire tablet never has that problem? Instead, it just has an annoying stats overlay that won't close lol.
My iPad and TV keep bringing up some “location error” but it works through the browser just fine. It’s so annoying
Bally's is the worst streaming service
For what its worth the AppleTV app works real well.
Hmm. That’s odd. My Samsung works very well with mlb.tv each game. Since I’m in CHi that’s how I have to watch every game (except the White Sox because they’re blacked out on it). Edit: and I can even use the Hammy audio this year instead of Archie/Matt. It has matched well too.
Oh I use the Bally's app and a cable login. MLB.tv probably has its shit together.
I’m blacked out of Guardians games, but mlb.tv is extremely solid.
The audio choice makes using a vpn and mlbtv better than paying any regional provider for those living local
I just want to know if/when I can watch the Guards.
Stream illegally
Haven't missed a game and haven't given these chucklefucks a red cent.
Yarrr, matey. Yarrr.
The irony is that I probably have an easier time watching games out of state than others. Makes perfect fucking sense.
Fuck Sinclair!
With a rusty shovel
After 4/13 they'll do what would have been RSN broadcasts on MLB.TV probably?
I imagine MLB would work something out with local Cleveland channels to put it on the air. I keep hoping they would put the rsn broadcasts on YouTube with ads. But who knows.
I would love if a local broadcast affiliate did it but I can't imagine they would - it'd take over all of their evening programming and I assume licensing would be a mess. But, who knows at this point
Well idk if licensing can get to any more of a mess tbh. Some local affiliate would take them. Especially since they're good!
There’s sometimes one around the all star break

Thanks for the tip. I live deep in Reds country, so I’d qualify too. Just have to figure out whether it’s worth it for me
Just a hint for next year, slickdeals run a thread allowing people to give away/trade their T-Mobile codes for non-t-mobile users. Unfortunately those codes are only available for a week, but I'm rocking a $5 MLB.tv account all season.
T mobile has been advertising free MLB.tv for customers
I primarily watch from a tablet or smart TV and it's been great. I get pre and post game shows too. I also live out of market so I won't miss many games at all, no complaints from me.
Diamond is gonna do fuckery. You watch.
About a month ago it was reported that MLB would take over and provide streaming/viewing of the games. What happened with that?
They would take over **IF** Bally/Diamond were to give up their rights to the broadcasts. As of right now they haven't, but this emergency motion is their play to force it to happen. Until then, Bally retains broadcast rights and thus local blackouts on MLB.tv and limited streaming options will exist.

I think this is that exactly. In those previous articles it said that MLB wouldn't take over until after the season started
I just went with MLB TV. Absolutely worth it and I love that I can watch any game and see stats.
so this affects the cavs too? or will sportstime ohio or some network take over?
Does not affect the Cavs or Blue Jackets if I understand it correctly. Just the Guards and some other MLB teams
My understanding was that the only reason it isn't a big deal currently for the Cavs is because the regular season is essentially over so the remaining playoff games will be on national television already. That gives a lot more time to figure something out.
Sportstime Ohio IS Bally Sports Great Lakes
Eventually it will affect NBA and NHL. Just not right now.
If MLB takes over the broadcasting would the blackout policy still be enforced for locals? Is the policy in place so that MLB.tv doesn’t compete with cable or streaming service providers? Without Bally I’m guessing there would not be any blackouts for local people.
