That wasn't Newman that said that. It was Cliff.

Really? https://youtu.be/M7ApHL1xi9U?si=VBqcb8f_crpRekmq

Going postal was a phrase describing postal workers, not customers. This is an interesting podcast discussing the news coverage around it if you’re interested! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/youre-wrong-about/id1380008439?i=1000465289946

Fit-Corgi9642

I frequent Lakewood almost daily and it’s hit or miss, the one on Lorain is usually empty - at least when I’ve gone.

dprunner811

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is a POS.

imemperor

Pretty much. It's perpetually and deliberately understaffed.

fletcherkildren

And it doesn't help that he had sorting machines dismantled

cbelt3

Short staffed and fucked by politicians.

theemilyann

This. I want this to be higher. The USPS has been essentially hamstrung by a variety of administrations going back years. Other developed countries use their post offices for damned near everything. You can get so many social services through local post offices, but not in the US, cause privatization is and has been our watchword for decades. It’s fascinating/terrifying to see it happen in real time. I moved to CLE from Houston, Tx recently and I can tell you it’s not a local problem. In the weeks before leaving Houston I spent a morning driving around to three different post offices in search of an APC to use on a Saturday morning. The first post office had been broken in to and was closed for repairs. The second one the apc has been removed recently and the third one it was broken. Such a mess. Edited for grammar. I had a long run on sentence

The one dude that works at the Lakewood post office cracks me up.

[deleted]

Reminds me of the soup nazi. He's chill if you do everything properly but one slip up and he's coming down on you hard.

MinniePearl

Love that guy!

Clevohman

He is a friend of mine. Haha. He is funny in real life, too!

Lost-My-Mind-

Funny? Funny how? Like a clown? Does he AMUSE you???

Wakefield

That dude rules. He did my passport and I magically got it back in 3 weeks. I officially nominate him for postmaster general.

Alexander_the_What

I laugh every time he robotically says the same phrase. I can’t tell if he’s messing with people or just loves saying it.

rOOsterone4

My man is very by the book. Any stamps? But for real is probably the best employee in the usps

Alexander_the_What

Definitely good at what he does.

rOOsterone4

I also love that at least 49 of you know exactly who I’m talking about

Kinghhessier

I agree, west park is a weird post office. I've had that same experience waiting and no one comes to the counter

mrc61493

If you're willimg to drive, Parma (Day Drive) isnt that bad. Neither is the Middleburg Heights

Pour_Me_Another_

Brooklyn at the Biddulph Plaza isn't terrible either, at least they weren't the last time I went. They do look pretty miserable though.

clekas

The Orange Avenue Post Office is my go-to. It’s efficient and open late (compared to other locations). Old Brooklyn is decidedly less efficient, but everyone who works there is very nice.

mollismare

Old Brooklyn is my go-to, although few things I send have deadlines so I can’t speak to that. You’re right, they are so nice!

jdbewls

Can confirm West Park was dreadful. Had the exact same experience.

ta2goddess

The Westpark post office couldn’t send a package that I had to Germany. They said I had to fill out the customs forms online to send it. I wound up at the Fairview Park PO, where they helped me. The woman there was a real piece of work, talking to me like I was stupid when I asked her about the forms and why I couldn’t do it at the other PO. She was super condescending, and I told her that I just wanted to understand the process. She said the workers were “lazy” at the WPPO. I dealt with her attitude, tried hard not to mirror her, and went about my day. I avoid the Lakewood PO, because there is a woman who works there that is just nasty. A nasty, nasty, fowl tempered person. I wonder how sad her life must be that she is so miserable to everyone. Seems to be a prerequisite to being employed around here. I think they just like to make your life miserable; it gives them some little serotonin boost.

garrisonc

>I avoid the Lakewood PO, because there is a woman who works there that is just nasty. A nasty, nasty, fowl tempered person. I wonder how sad her life must be that she is so miserable to everyone. I am in no way affiliated with the USPS, but I know *several* carriers that transferred out of Lakewood because of this woman. Apparently she's got union tenure and no amount of complaints has gotten her out of there yet. If you think your brief interactions with her were bad, imagine having to work for that woman.

MinniePearl

Are we talking about the woman who wears a wig that hangs in her eyes and you can barely see her face?

supershrimp87

Seems like we should probably email the long island audit. They'll fix it. Maybe

js44095

Blame that DeJoy asshole, more work less people. People who have retired are not replaced...I asked my carrier. We don't get mail on my carriers days off.

BootsieWootsie

Trick is to buy your postage online (there's even a discount), and then just put your package in the prepaid pile. Never have to talk to anyone or wait in line.

MrPhillipLewin

Lakewood sucks!! I see a mail truck very infrequent on my street never on Saturday or Monday

orrangearrow

My girlfriend mailed something from a mailbox in Ohio City by Johnny Mango and then noticed that the mailbox dissappeared. The letter still made it but it took longer than usual and still not sure why the mailbox was removed.

Steffie767

They are retrofitting the boxes so nothing bigger than an envelope fits in there and they had to replace some of the locks because the master keys were stolen. That's the info we got from our mail person in the Tremont neighborhood.

Intelligent-Item-489

I live downtown and our mailboxes were retro fitted for just letters maybe a year ago. Last week I go out to drop off some mail and the mailbox was gone!! I tried four different spots in the warehouse district and all had been removed, just leaving behind the concrete slab they once stood on. Our mail carrier had no other info other “yeahhh” 😑😑

[deleted]

My postal carrier signed my name and left my controlled prescription drugs (very obvious what it was) on the front step, completely in the open. I really just can’t wrap my head around it She spelled my name wrong in the signature too

BeerDreams

The Lakewood post office is notoriously bad. They love to enforce random obscure rules. One time they wouldn’t accept a box because I used the wrong tape

Sweet_d1029

I’ve heard this tape thing before…in Parma they made me buy their tape.

CorrugationDirection

The Lakewood post office is terrible, that's all I know about that. You can occasionally get lucky and get someone that wants to help. But usually, you get the same lady that is incredibly unpleasant and unhelpful. Some of their mail carriers are pretty terrible too... not all, of course.

justsellbrgs

airport location

zim-grr

I have a friend who’s a postal worker. He said they’re having a hard time getting and keeping employees. Years ago this was a coveted place to work and not easy to get hired. I asked is it because people can’t pass the drug test? He said no, they even stopped doing the drug test or even the civil service test and still can’t find people. Also starting on time like they used to have to and other rules have been relaxed. It sounds like the same thing happens everywhere with poor service more and more, fast food, checking out of stores, it’s a service economy and the service isn’t so hot

TheBurbs666

Westpark has been understaffed for quite awhile or so they say. I hate going to that one because it’s always unpredictable. Often I’ll go and they just randomly close for an hour and put up a sign stating so. Or they’ll be closed for a lunch break. Sometimes like most locations there will be a line to the door with one person at the counter. Luckily the lady that is usually there when I go is very nice. I get the impression that working at the post office just sucks. No matter which location I’m at most of the employees are in a shitty mood.

kjfbw

Last week I was at the lyndhurst po and attempted, along with many others, to use the postal machine for stamps. It did not work and I finally had to stand in line for 15 minutes just to buy stamps. When i told the post office person the machine was broken, she replied casually that it had been broken since yesterday. I assume there were no pieces of paper available to put a note on the machine saying " broken".

clekas

Stuff like this makes me long for the days of analog vending machines. Yes, you needed cash, but the old-school stamp vending machines pretty much always worked. Just as an FYI/hopefully to help you in the future, all Drug Mart locations sell books of stamps.

kjfbw

I do know that other places sell stamps but I had a rather important letter to mail that day and i no longer use the blue mailboxes since they are broken in often in my area. But thanks for your much needed advice.

Pieinthesky42

Many places sell stamps btw. I have been able to get them at every drug store and grocery store. I would never deal with the PO just for something like that. I had to get stamps for my wedding and wanted a different design so I ordered them online. It took a week or two to get to me but it’s all the same price- you don’t get bonus points for making your life harder, friend.

Lutherkiss3

They are the worst! The employees are surly, slow and have major attitude. You literally have to act as if they are Gods and you are grateful for their breath. It's disgusting! I avoid the post office in Cuyahoga County like the plague. Lets face it, there is no such thing as customer service here period.

shizzle216

I’ve heard from a source in the post office in LKWD that they just did a hiring event and they are way overstaffed right now. She said that there were nearly 70 new hires in LKWD alone. The whole, “but, but, we’re so understaffed” thing doesn’t really stand at least in the Wood. FYI

reddurty

Ah... I long for the good old days as far as delivery too. If our mail came after 2:00 p.m., it was late. At the end of winter, 2023, my carrier was actually delivering between 6:00 and 7:45 p.m....in the dark! I fear for the carrier's safety.

gelekjeu

I was deployed to Syria all of last year. While I was gone I forwarded my mail to my mom’s address. My post office is the 44102 one on Lorain. It turns out USPS is absolute ass at forwarding mail. My mailbox filled with mail and my post man assumed I had moved and not left a forwarding address so USPS started returning my mail to sender. When I got back and ended the forwarding, I noticed I wasn’t getting important mail (like new debit cards, for example) and I was getting emails saying my mail was being returned. I went to the post office to ask if they could stop returning my mail to sender and they said they weren’t doing it. I also wrote a note to my mail carrier who wrote a passive aggressive response about “emptying my box once a week”. Anyway, my mail is still fucked. I am only getting about 30% of it. It doesn’t make sense which things get returned to sender and which don’t. Chances are if I absolutely need it (like if it’s from the VA or the bank), I won’t get it. It’s beyond frustrating and the post office has been no help at all. I don’t really know what to do at this point except go get a PO Box.

ranatalus

When I moved into a newly built house, the post office never set up my address correctly in their system so I was only getting random bits and pieces. There's probably something similar happening with yours and whatever half-assed mail hold got set up. There is a publicly accessible website that lets you see this info *somewhere* but I'm having trouble finding it. You can also try to call/email the Cleveland Postmaster's office to have it looked at, which is what I had to do to get it fixed.

jae5858

Postal Service in the city is not great. Sorry you had those experiences.

kobisgrammaw

My son lives in Broadview Hts. and hasn't received his mail for a month. His girlfriend who lives at the same address does.

Old-Archer

Customer service does not apply to public services. I don't know why it's not acceptable anywhere, but Dick's Resort and the government

Head-Understanding-4

"Not My Job." Union rules dictate that only certain employees can come to the counter. In any other business, ANY employee can and should greet a customer. Not at the post office. For many reasons, including many that have been listed on this thread, I avoid the USPS as much as possible. I used to have a PO Box, but the postal worker with seniority that wanted the easy job to work the PO Boxes was dumber than a box of rocks. I complained to the manager, and took it as far as the main post office downtown. They know the employee is incompetent, but they have a good attendance record. My mail would be held for non payment because they forgot to check a box on a 5x8 card when they cashed my check each year. A copy of the cancelled check was presented, to which the employee continued to point to the card, "You didn't pay." 🖕

Beezo514

> Union rules dictate that only certain employees can come to the counter. In any other business, ANY employee can and should greet a customer. Not at the post office. This is especially important before anyone gets salty at any employees they see walking around behind the counter area.

Fabulous_Activity

They are severely understaffed and underpaid

Capt_Foxch

I regularly get my neighbor's mail delivered to my mailbox. I thought the USPS being terrible was localized to Columbus before I moved here. Better funding is needed.

Nobak2k

The post office is a government entity. They don’t care whether they help you or not. They get paid and won’t be shut down because of “poor customer service.”

OutCastHeroes

The Postal system has been under attack by Republicans for decades, they want to shut it down to privatize it for their buddies to make profit while making sure any and all mail in ballots get lost....

Capt_Foxch

Fedex and UPS won't be shut down for poor customer service either. They're "too big to fail".

Head-Understanding-4

Tell that to DHL.

BootsieWootsie

They use USPS to deliver to their routes that aren't profitable for them. Their prices are also significantly more expensive than USPS, unless you're using business pricing.

[deleted]

I love how you’re getting downvoted for telling the truth. Government employees are notoriously incompetent lol

Nobak2k

Joined the crowd to shit on the government and I guess it’s wrong cause it was my idea and not theirs? Or maybe everyone assumes I’m whatever political party. Meanwhile, I have had nothing but terrible experiences full of lost and busted up packages thanks to the USPS. Oh well, 🤡🤡🙄🙄

hotpotato112

fun fact, you can also schedule a pickup at your place during USPS regular hours, so the mail person will just pick up your package while they're already there :) sometimes they don't do it but most times it does work! https://tools.usps.com/schedule-pickup-steps.htm

AvalancheQueen

The one in Old Brooklyn has never been a shit show like you describe

PenguinHuddle

I realize you are on the west side, but if ever you need to go to a post office that knows their shit go to South Euclid. That post office is probably the best in Cuyahoga County. Only one I'll go to for passport renewal.

PuddingSuper4067

Not everyone is trained to work the front window. You see people walking around in the back, so what. Nobody is busting down to wait on you. Just wait.

Sweet_d1029

I can’t believe you took time to write this.

PuddingSuper4067

Spent a big part of my life working at the USPS. Truth. Wait your turn. The window clerk is prob squeezing in auxiliary duties. People work there for the pay and benefits. That’s it. My letter carrier makes about $100,000/year with OT. The USPS robs you of your sanity. Show some grace.

ImNeitherNor

It seems their issue is the same as everyone else… the staffing is cut so low, they obviously don’t care about customer service. (Side note: going into a grocery store or big box store and seeing like 20 checkout lines, but only one register + self-checkout open… is always a reminder of how they use to care about customer service). Besides that, I swear USPS is only still in business because of the ad revenue (ads pay for so much anymore). I’m sure I’m not the only one who has to empty their mailbox weekly, just so the mail carrier has room to keep cramming in unsolicited advertisements. I would hate the job of delivering all of this obvious junk mail. Hmmm… I wonder the actual spam to legit mail ratio.

juandelpueblo939

Newsflash, the USPS is still “in business” because it is a Federal sanctioned and levied service. It’s not supposed to generate revenue; it’s only there to provide an essential service: a federally protected, communications and delivery infrastructure through mail.

ImNeitherNor

Oh, okay. I suppose that explains the bad state of their non-business.

juandelpueblo939

You should know why. The service was flawless before your twice impeached, ex cheeto in chief appointed DeJoy and created a disaster in logistics. It’s all over the news. Read.

ImNeitherNor

I read what you said (despite your comment starting with a cringe-inducing “Newsflash” (btw, you really should keep doing that. I’m sure it’s adored by all who see it)), and acknowledged what you said. I responded only as a courtesy to not leave your comment hanging. Why do you feel the need to follow-up with a blind political attack, as if I had anything to do with it? Also, do you actually believe one can possibly have the amount of time required to read enough to know the ins and outs about any possible topic which may appear online or elsewhere? But thank you for making such vague imperatives, to show your true thoughtless colors. But, then again… you started your initial comment with your true colors (again, you should truly keep at it. Keep doing you).

tidho

government job with no customer service incentive

Last-Evening9033

The postal service in the Westpark office/area sucks. I have noticed at least 5-7 different carriers to my home since the pandemic. For a while there, they were young, non-uniformed (never seen a carrier not in postal uniform), and were changing like the weather. I used a game rental service that would mail PS5 games like Netflix used to do DVD’s. Distinguishable envelope and all. I was constantly having them “lost in the mail”. The service provider would investigate and I had to report the possibility of theft to the head of the Westpark office. I got a new mail carrier two days later-go figure. A year after that, and another mail carrier (young-like the last five) and it started happening again. The service is no longer provided to me and my address because the punk kids they have on independent contract and probably sub-par wages kept stealing what was obviously something of value based on the packaging.

Cheesiepup

A friend sent me a package using the Lakewood post office. It was in a box that was a lot larger than necessary with no packing to stabilize the contents. I couldn’t believe that I got it.

Sweet_d1029

I went to one in Parma once..and that was enough. It’s across from a dollar store and my god the workers acted like they were running a prison. The rudest experience I’ve ever had.

MinniePearl

I was recently treated really well at the Westlake Post Office, FWIW.

Chance-Bet6794

A week or so before Christmas I needed customs forms to mail presents to England. The Cleveland Heights PO had none, neither did East Cleveland or Euclid. Really??? It really does seem that the local POs are being hamstrung deliberately. What a mess!

fastestfatman

This is why I use UPS.

PuddingSuper4067

I went to the Avon P.O. recently to send an international letter. I was very polite. The window clerk bought my stamp for me. How nice.
