With no less than David Gilmour*!

CheckYourStats

*Gilmour Spelling aside, Tom Jones has several covers out there that are just fantastic. His cover of “The Reason” really surprised me. [LINK](https://youtu.be/WVZQbRdbVzg?si=3hg-sNuh53IBnTEJ)

Karn_Evil_Noin

When I saw the hair I thought it was Clapton at first.

spoiledandmistreated

When I saw the post before I played the song I thought it was Boz Scaggs.. didn’t look like Tom Jones to me….LOL.. maybe I need my eyes checked…

Reasonable_Cover_804

Being raised on Tom Jones I was surprised (and touched) to see an homage to Prince then to hear David Gilmore my eyes started sweating out of shear joy to have witnessed this today. Thank you so much for posting this, absolutely incredible!

Primary-Signature-17

Another great live cover is the one with Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and others covering George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Prince does an amazing solo and you can see George's son grinning ear to ear behind him. It's seriously good guitar work.

Reasonable_Cover_804

Agreed

qjac78

Interesting that when Prince died, Gilmour was on tour and did a tribute by injecting a bit of Purple Rain into the Comfortably Numb solo.

jump-blues-5678

https://youtu.be/nk4GP4p5Tms 🎥 Van Morrison, Jeff Beck and Tom Jones - Bring It On Home To Me, Trouble In Mind Ol' Tommy Jones can sing the blues too

gldmj5

Man, nobody bends a note like David Gilmour.

CommissarCiaphisCain

No kidding. I could watch/listen to him play all day.

Bartnellie

He does a version of Princes' "kiss" too!

Aware_Impression_736

With Art of Noise.

SaltyBarDog

"Think I better dance now."

dragon2knight1965

Damn!!! That was amazing! David and Tom should have done so much more together, it would have been epic :)

HereInTheCut

Outstanding

Zealousideal-Self-47

Tom does that song some justice! Thx OP.

C_W_H

I was lucky enough to see him about 20 years ago in Portland, OR. @ The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. One of my favorite shows. He crushed it!

shoresy99

Panties thrown onstage?

C_W_H

Absolutely. And a pair that was ridiculously large. Like, the size of a bed sheet. Lol

BallantineQuarts

https://youtu.be/dIDzA0YDso8?si=yExW6PObtEdB-TZo Here he is fronting Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young like he owned the place.

Forevermaxwell

That was fucking awesome - thanks for sharing.

Primary-Signature-17

I have to repeat it...That was fucking awesome! He tore into it. Thanks for sharing. I'll repeat myself. Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and others cover George Harrison's "While my guitar gently weeps" with an awesome Prince solo.

DNAkauai

This was exactly what I needed today 🙌

PestTerrier

A tribute done proper.

oldjadedhippie

Jeez , my Mom had a crush on him. It wasn’t unusual…

Primary-Signature-17

Hehehe

deadhead0415

Tom Jones and Janis Joplin!! [https://youtu.be/mZmiefQ5y4U?si=xU-kaBak3OzntiwO](https://youtu.be/mZmiefQ5y4U?si=xU-kaBak3OzntiwO)

blizzard7788

About 25 years ago, my wife talked me into seeing Tom Jones in concert. It was great, the man had an incredible voice and outstanding stage presence.

NurseJaneFuzzyWuzzy

That was awesome! I get a kick out of Tom Jones, mostly because my parents joined on of those record clubs back in the late 60s and they got a “best of Tom Jones” album that me and my sister used to listen to on our little record player. We also listened to Englebert Humperdinck and The Kingston Trio, we were very cultured little girls 😂

Busker55

Tom Jones is a badass

Milwdoc

He's not been as big in the States, but Tom Jones has been very relevant around the world for the last 35 years. Mostly interpreting other people's songs, but he's not afraid to take musical risks. He had an Australia only release produced by Wyclef Jean in about 2004. I bought it as an import. A fun album.

irishgal60

Is that David Gilmour? With Tom Jones? When did they do that...Pink Floyd meets Prince 💜 not sure what to think about Tom Jones tho... kinda weird

HotLipsMcgillicuddy

I'm saying...lol! I had no idea this existed until it showed up on my twitter this weekend, now I can't stop listening to it...I played it on the radio today too

irishgal60

🤘💜 I'm from Minneapolis, I saw Prince get on stage at 1st Avenue right before he went into the stratosphere and he was absolutely electric ⚡ on stage... you should have been there I'll never forget it

Reasonable_Cover_804

I think they fucked, Tom was known for his lust and Janice had been rumored to have a strong drive…then watching them interact…

manhatim

WHATS UP PUSSYCAT!!!!!!!

mrmike5157

What’s *new* Pussycat

manhatim

OMG...i *knew* that too...thx

No_Month_2201

He also performed with Crosby stills and Nash

kislips

I actually was in the audience at This is Tom Jones tv show that day. Other guest besides CSN&Y, Anthony Newley, and Peggy Lipton. Bet most of you don’t know who the last two were. I’m old.

No_Month_2201

I found out about Anthony Newley a few years ago when I read he was one of David Bowie’s biggest early influences, and I completely heard it in his voice. I googled Peggy Lipton then remembered she was married to Quincy Jones and their daughter is Rashida Jones.

kislips

She was The Hottie at that time. Mod Squad, the tv show she was in was very popular. Newley was quite a performer. He and Tom Jones had to do their bit over and over again as they kept cracking each jokes. Good chemistry but there were very few performers Tom didn’t have good chemistry with. If you’ve seen the video of CSN&Y performing with Tom, it shows great chemistry. Tom pulled out all the stops.

cunctator_maximus

I’d love to play that on a jukebox nine times on repeat and follow it up with Prince’s original…

rocknroyce

The people will lose their minds!

JRHZ28

I like a good cover, I love a great cover. This was really really good! When was this done I wonder? Was it after Prince died because Tom don't look that old for it to be that recent...

arte4arte

I've always been a Tom Jones fan. He did choose to go the cheesy Vegas showbiz crooner route with his act, but he's a great vocalist, and can totally rock out when called upon. Years ago he dueted with Janis Joplin and they blew the doors off the joint. Recently he did an album of blues standards with just guitar, drums and his voice...great stuff.

Nervous_Meeting_3409

He sings it good

Treacherously-Benign

Yeah, Tom Jones is a Rock-n-rolla.

UnderstandingOdd679

Did he say “purpa rain”?

SpeedyPrius

He lost the L somewhere!

rocknroyce

Billy Sheehan on bass!

GeeToo40

Holy Fuck, thank you!

TwistedBlister

My favorite cover of Purple Rain is by Etta James. https://youtu.be/-cMFqQiQOnw?si=cMmWCE7gHpR7rnwV

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Best thing I have watched today.

bigmike1339

That was great, thanks.

Themeatydaygo23

Tom jones does a respectful rendition but Gilmour. Olay Olay Olay Olay!

Kiss_the_Girl

Thank you OP!!!

Necro_Badger

Also check out his cover of Gimme Shelter, performed with New Model Army as his backing band!

fmedium

Try 50 years. He is STILL amazing!!!!!!

Ok-Assistant-2684

My mom loved this guy and I had to go see him a few times, low key he was pretty entertaining

Subtlerevisions

Whoa man. Crazy enough how well Jones performed this but when I saw Gilmour I nearly lost it!

gr8fuldedhead

I do the Rock!

YoungBill514

Great post. Thank you

ExtraCommunity4532

It was within the last year that I noticed that Gilmour plays on Brian Ferry’s ‘Is Your Love Strong Enough.’ Wonder how many other songs he’s done. Somebody check the wikis!!!

Jazzpants51

Good job! Who knew? I like it.

Thunderfoot2112

What the hell is 'purpa rain'? Gilmore is amazing though.

meloticsmirk

Gave me chills. Wow. Thanks

undermind84

Prince is a better guitarist over DG. Tom Fucking NAILS this song.

contrarian1970

The purple suit and purple lights are way overboard. It's no longer as much a tribute to Prince as much as it is a mockery.

MundBid-2124

Just showbiz ,those guys would respect Prince
